Transformers: Knights of Cybertron (Stop-Motion Series) Cast Signups
Project Overview
Transformers: Knights of Cybertron is an all-new stop-motion series from the creator of BIONICLE Reiterated. Aimed towards fans that grew up with the franchise during the run of "Transformers: Prime- The Animated Series" on The Hub Network, this show has a focus on mature characters and darker themes while still retaining the lovable charm of the Generation 1 series. Utilizing the toylines from "The Last Knight" and Studio Series, the movie designs alongside Steve Jablonsky's score will help bring the characters to life in a LEGO built world. But now I need YOUR help- to give these characters voices. With 35 episodes planned across four seasons, this will be a long-term project, and one I hope to share with the world very soon. Season 1 has been filmed, with Season 2 in the early stages of being written. Since this is a fan production, there will be no paying roles with the exception of experience. I can't wait to hear your auditions! 'Till All Are One.

All of the Autobots and Decepticons have been cast, but I'm still looking for human characters! The auditions will last another month to fill in the three main human characters.
Optimus Prime did not choose his position in life, it was thrust upon him in the most dire of circumstances. From a simple data clerk to an anointed leader of his people, Optimus has led the Autobots with valor and distinction for millennia, but not without regrets.
More than any other Optimus Prime in TF fiction, this Optimus feels the weight of his actions during the war, and they'll be brought up often. Actors going for this role will need to balance the gravitas of the character while also making sure that emotion comes through. Simple Peter Cullen impersonations won't cut it. While a Cullen inspired voice is certainly the base for the character's voice, I want to move beyond that interpretation to make something familiar yet new at that same time.
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
"We cannot let the Decepticons conquer the Earth!"
"Everything that has happened has been my fault. The war, the destruction of our home... this conflict cannot last, and I must put a stop to it."
Bumblebee is usually ready for anything, but he doesn't pass up the chance to have a good time. The Autobot scout may be small, but that doesn't mean he can't hold his own against 'bots twice his size. He's got a determination to do whatever it takes to protect his friends.
This version of Bumblebee is going to skew a little older compared to the iterations we've gotten in recent years. Somewhere between Dan Gilverzan and Will Friedle's interpretations of the character from G1 and Prime.
"The more I learn about this planet the more I get confused."
"You wanna get to the fight or just blab about how you're going to kill everyone?!"
"We won't let this planet down like we did Cybertron."
Ratchet didn't expect one of his first medical operations to be in the middle of a battle, but he's determined to save every patient that crosses his table. While he may be beginning to get a little along in years, he can still wreck and roll with even the most spry of Autobots.
This version of Ratchet is more middle aged than elderly compared to recent iterations of the character. While Ratchet in Transformers: Animated and Prime was usually a dependable confidant and straight man of the group, this version isn't exactly mellowing with age. If anything, he's found that perhaps being a soldier is more of a true calling to him than field medic, and is capable of going off books if he feels what he's doing is right. The voice will need to match his more volatile nature, but retain the kindness that Ratchets of the past have been known to show (TFA Ratchet with Sari & Arcee, TFP Ratchet with the kids).
"Hold on, I'm still working on rewiring Teletraan's circuits..."
"Someone call for a doctor? If so, too bad, all you're getting today is the soldier!"
"I've seen way too many bots carved up and blown to bits during my time as a field medic. This war has taken too much of a tole on all of us."
Hound loves a good fight, but despite appearances, he hates the war. Gladiatorial fights are one thing, the extermination of entire populations is another. So Hound straps up with whatever weapon he can find or produce and heads to the front lines each and every time duty calls.
While many hate "Age of Extinction" and "The Last Knight" with a fiery passion (and rightly so in many instances), the one thing both films did right was the casting of John Goodman as Hound. His enthusiasm brought a smile to my face each and every time he was on screen, even if it was a far cry from the G1 version of the character. While sound-alikes and impressions will be considered, the big thing to go for is the enthusiasm and over-the-top nature, with the capabilities to turn darker should the situation call for it.
"Hold on, let me get my ammo..."
"I got approximately 238 rounds for each of you scrap-heaps, so who wants first dibs? "
"These cons mess with my friends, they're going to be in for a world of hurt."
Sam Witwicky, or "Spike" to his friends and family, is your average twenty-something living at home with his aging father and helping out with the family business. When giant robots land at his doorstep and make friends with him, he sympathizes with their plight and agrees to help them. While he's now the target of the Government and other giant robots, he at least got a free car out of the deal and a new best friend, so, you win some you lose some.
Sam is the conduit to which the audience experiences the world of the Autobots and Decepticons, much in the way many of the human characters in Transformers are. He serves as a dose of reality in a sci-fi action adventure. I'm very much open to interpretation on this character's voice, so feel free to experiment. It just needs to sound authentically human, which shouldn't be too hard in a world of robots, right?
"Yesterday I was a regular guy. Today I'm in giant robot witness protection. It's been a weird week."
"How am I going to explain this to my dad?"
"Bee, watch out behind you!"
Ron "Sparkplug" Witwicky hasn't had an easy time raising his son on his own, but it hasn't been tough either. Sam's life has been happy and so Ron is satisfied with that. However, when Sam starts acting dodgy after a personal loss, Ron becomes concerned about his well-being but puts on a brave face so no one suspects anything.
Like his G1 counterpart, Ron, or "Sparkplug", is a construction worker and has been all his life. While he's only in his late 50s/early 60s, the hard labor has worn him out and he's mainly a supervisor at this point. Ron should be able to speak with authority but also with the softness of a comforting parent.
"Time to get up and go to work."
"I know times have been tough, but it'll get better, I promise."
"Why did your car just stand up on its own?!"
Agent Graham is the lead FBI Agent assigned to a potential murder case in a sleepy town that basically exists because of one occupation. With all the TV he watches, he's laughing at how he's landed in a cliche position and doesn't think much of what's going on at first, but something weird is going on and he's going to get to the bottom of it.
The main human antagonist for most of Season 1, Graham proves to be a thorn in the side of the Autobots as he tries to uncover what's going on in Sam's hometown. Graham isn't fresh out of the academy, but he isn't the most experienced either, and later on maybe comes to be understanding of the situation. He should be played with enough charisma to be likable and charming, but with enough hostility to be seen as a credible threat at first.
"Have you seen anything unusual lately?"
"We're going to get to the bottom of this."
"You're under arrest!"
Megatron was the rightful ruler of Cybertron, but for some reason the High Council denied him his proper place. With his new followers, he was on track to claim rule over all Cybertronians, but as an ultimate act of betrayal, his closest ally Optimus betrayed him and rallied his own army. He even had the audacity to claim the title of Prime. Blasphemy. Now Megatron will burn down any world Optimus decides to call home, no matter how many of his warriors fall along the way.
The dynamic between Optimus Prime and Megatron has always been one of the most important aspects to Transformers, and for this iteration, I'm expanding on the idea of betrayal from "Transformers: Prime" and making that a focal point of Megatron's anger at Optimus. I'm open to almost any type of voice for Megatron as long as it doesn't come off as mustache-twirly. Frank Welker's TFP voice and Corey Burtron's TFA performance are good starting points, but the more unique the better.
"This world will burn..."
"I will never forgive you for what you've done to me, Optimus."
"Decepticons, kill them!"
Starscream is an exceptional air commander and should be in charge of the Decepticons. Just because Megatron is more popular doesn't deter Starscream from trying to weasel his way into the top spot. Although it is kind of hard to gain favor with the other Decepticons when Megatron continuously puts him in his place...
While Optimus Prime has the most iconic voice out of any Transformers character, Starscream is a close second. There have been so many different variations of the Starscream voice over the years, and nearly all of them have been brilliant. The only requirements are a high-pitched voice with enough sleaze and schemeyness that it'd make unscrupulous lawyers feel uncomfortable.
"The Autobots would've lost eons ago had I been calling the shots..."
"Prepare to face the wrath of Starscream!"
"Not the face, not the face!"
Deadlock is a master assassin and one of the Decepticon's best troops. Unlike many of Megatron's soldiers, he has a strict code of honor and doesn't kill just for the fun of it. Now on Earth, Deadlock may have to come to the realization that his loyalties lie more with the Autobots than the Decepticons...
If you know your Transformers lore pretty well, then you probably know where this storyline is heading. Deadlock must sound neutral enough to come across as relate-able and sympathetic to the audience. If he comes across as evil, then the story won't work.
"I don't fight to kill, I fight because I have been ordered to."
"Those that have wronged Cybertron must be brought to justice."
"Innocents will be spared, but I only see the guilty here."
Barricade was Soundwave's number one lieutenant on Cybertron. As part of the Decepticon Secret Police, many ordinary bots who didn't wish to choose sides suddenly were very willing to join Megatron's crusade or ended up being found at the bottom of a smelting pit after an unfortunate "accident" at his hands. He doesn't condone deserters or traitors and executes his tasks with a mixture of stealth and brutal efficiency.
If Barricade had a human face, he'd always be scowling. I don't think this is a character that's ever been in a good mood. He's no-nonsense, all business, all the time. There's no suave coolness to the character like Keith David's performance for the 2007 PS2/Nintendo DS game would have you believe. Barricade is a Decepticon you do not want to mess with, and a low register voice will get that across very well. No other qualifications, so have fun experimenting and pretending to rough up some Autobots.
"I live to serve."
"Go ahead and run, just know I'll find you anyway."
"To punish and enslave."
Knock Out isn't much of a warrior. He's been in plenty of fights, but mostly to save his own hide. A con-man at Spark, Knock Out would rather be doing shady deals in Cybertronian back alleys than fighting in a war, but when Megatron tells you to do something, you do it. Even if it means having to buff the dents out of your chassis later.
Knock Out was a stand-out character in "Transformers: Prime", so I couldn't resist bringing him in here. He loves himself more than anything, and if he can find a way to get out of something, he will. His voice should drip sleaze, as he's the used car salesman using his business as a front for something that's probably illegal while being the car on the lot in question.
"You go first, I'll make sure to check and see if they're flanking around behind us."
"You scratch my paint, I scratch yours."
"I look gooooood."
Some think Brawl is lazy, but he prefers the term 'efficient'. He thinks there's a simple solution to every problem, which most of the time means blowing up the problem. When required to though, Brawl will put forth the energy and intellect needed to come up with strategies that cause the most pain... and make the most things go boom.
Brawl is that fun character that looks dumb and sounds dumb, and probably is dumb, but has moments of clarity where you realize there's more to them than meets they eye (ha). To me, David Sobolov's interpretation of Brawl from the 2007 PS2/Nintendo DS game is the quintessential voice for the character, but I'm certainly open to other interpretations that you as voice actors might come up with.
"Time to make stuff go boom."
"I'm a tank, you're a truck! How do you expect to beat me?"
"Come closer, I'll rip you in half and then use your limbs as projectiles!"
Nitro has completed more bombing runs than any other Decepticon flyer... he's also been shot down more than any other as well. He has a bit of an issue when it comes to thinking through his plans, usually opting to charge in and think of a better way he could've handled the situation after he's turned a platoon of Autobots into scrap. Prone to jealousy, Nitro will harbor a grudge for years before finding the perfect way to get rid of his rival. If only he were so patient and methodical when it came to other things...
Nitro Zeus was a fun if worthless character in "The Last Knight", so I decided to give the character a chance to do something and make more of a name for himself rather than be known for being "Generic Decepticon gang member #3". No preference for the voice on this one, give me whatever you've got.
"Air support on the way."
"We going to get messy, boss?"
"I love the sound of dead Autobots underfoot..."
