Fullmetal Abridged
Project Overview
Alchemy, automail, and apathy.
The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is one of war, secrets, and rectifying the past. As a group of people who love the series we plan to keep the spirit of the original while pointing out some of the flaws. What are those flaws? Well, join us and find out.
In our version things are going to get a little darker and a little sillier. Think Rick and Morty meets Apocalypse Now. We do plan to cover the entire original series, or at least an "abridged" version of it, so this isn't a "one and done" type of deal. We're in it for the long haul.
Production will probably be a slow-going process so we're thinking at least a month per episode, which gives all of our voice actors ample time to record. So if you think you have the time for a bigger project like this then feel free to audition for a bigger role, but if not, then maybe try a supporting character with less screen time.
Guidelines:
- Audio quality is the number one priority. If your audio is bad then we can't use you, so make sure you have a decent and clear mic and a quiet space to record. It doesn't matter if you're the best Mustang in the world if we can't understand you.
- We have to be able to get in touch with you. Discord is a must here. We have a rather large channel where all of our voice actors hang out and where we post announcements and open roles before we post them here. So in order to maintain contact, get lines, give direction, and do read throughs, we need to know that we can contact you quick and easily, and really Discord is the easiest way for us to do that.
- Time. It is our number one resource and while we're totally willing to work with you, you just gotta make sure to send in your lines when you say you will. Need a week or two because you just moved? Cool, not a problem, but make sure that when you do have the time that you get the lines to us.
- Try to sound as close to the dub as possible. Not because we want to copy it, but because it's a good baseline for the characters. Afterwards we'll work with you to make the voice more unique but for now, we want you to show us that you can speak in their voice more so than your own.
- Feel free to ad lib a little! Some of the best lines in history come from the actors, not the writers. So have fun while recording and if you have a good joke, don't be afraid to say it.
- If you're uncomfortable with a line, TELL US! we aren't going to make you say something you don't want to so let us know and we can work with you to find a better alternative.
Again, feel free to have fun with the lines, ad lib, make stuff up. The more personality you show in your audition, the more you'll show in the character. And for the love of science, don't be afraid to GET LOUD! The number one issue we've ran into on other platforms is that the voice actor is too quiet, especially when yelling. Don't hold back on us, but try not to completely blow our headphones out.
And lastly, not all characters are listed yet. We're working on it, don't worry. More will be listed as we continue. If you want to try out for a role that isn't yet posted, feel free to let us know. If there's someone from the series you think you'd really shine with feel free to start a discussion. If you have any inquiries for your audition or any role you may be auditioning for please do not message Shintou Genesis. Message Psymecoleesis for all audition inquiries. Latest Updates
-
Hey you guys, it's been a long while since we posted here. Sorry about that. The world kinda started burning down there for a while and to be honest, the project sort of went on hiatus. But we are officially back and as such, some of the roles that had previously been cast now are open. So, if anyone is interested in auditioning, we do have some leading roles open like Alphonse and Lust. We also have some supporting roles open like Gluttony and Pinako. So feel free to audition away, and keep an eye on this page because we'll be posting new openings as they arrive. And again, thank you all for sticking with us and I'm sorry that we weren't able to keep you guys as updated as we should have, especially for those who auditioned recently. But we're back, and we absolutely will be more active now.

New Roles Are Up!
Hey guys! So it's been a while since we updated, mostly because we've heavily been in production with the series, which if you're interested you find the first two episode of here: https://www.youtube.com/arrogantdubs And those episodes are due entirely to you guys auditioning and being awesome. We want to first off thank everyone who has auditioned for your time and effort, you guys rock and knocked it out of the park. And I know a lot of you guys didn't get casted, and trust us, if we could we'd cast you all. Going through the audition and making the hard choice has been the toughest part of this whole thing for us and we love all of you guys dearly. But, just because you haven't gotten cast yet, doesn't mean you won't! We're adding new characters and roles all the time, so keep checking back because who knows? Maybe the role you auditioned for just wasn't the right one, yet. Anyways, we have a few new roles down below and a few that people dropped out of, so for those still wanting to be a part of this world we call Fullmetal, show us your stuff. And to reiterate an earlier point, we do use discord to direct and do read throughs with all of our talent so make sure you're on that so we can get a hold of ya. ^_^ -
Casting
First off, we want to thank all of you so much for your auditions and interest in the project. We never thought people would respond this well to it and there is SO MUCH talent out there. We are humbled and sincerely grateful. Secondly, a few roles have been cast but that doesn't mean you can't audition for them! We're always looking for understudies and due to the nature of the project we might even need multiple actors for certain roles, so keep those auditions coming guys! The roles currently casted are as follows: Edward Elric Alphonse Elric Riza Hawkeye Lust Van Hohenheim Shou Tucker Nina Tucker Rose Major Armstrong Thanks again so much for your interest guys and keep in mind, even if you don't get your preferred role, we might just contact you for another one since we always need minor characters! -
Updated Character List
The following characters have been added to the list: Father Cornello Trisha Elrick Hohenheim Major Armstrong Maes Hughes Gracia Hughes Shou Tucker Nina Tucker Scar King Bradley
In the original: Al is a sweet, naive kid who follows his brother on their journey and cares about helping people. He usually plays second fiddle to Ed but sometimes motivates him to do the right thing. Also, he's a suit of armor.
In ours: Al is still sweet but less naive. He's the straight man to Ed's insane antics and often the voice of reason. As the series progresses, he slowly begins to tolerate his brother less and less and eventually comes into his own and starts to take a stand.
"Brother, that’s a stupid idea and you’ve ruined the Elric name by saying it."
“No, you can’t ride in me!”
"Brother, can we please try not to start a holy war this time?"
In the original: Lust is kinda of the pseudo leader of the homunculi, a group of non human entities created through alchemy. She is a more sexualized character, representing the deadly sin of Lust and wishes to be human.
"Gluttony why are you always so hung... nevermind. Stupid question."
"Envy, stop that."
"What do we want? That's easy. The same thing you do. To be whole."
In the original: Gluttony is a homunculus that eats. That's pretty much his entire character.
"Garbled maniac sounds!"
"Can I eat it though?"
"Wargurbleburblegra!"
In the original: Grandma Rockbell is, as the name implies, Winry's grandma. She's a surrogate grandmother for the boys as well and takes care of them after their mother passes.
"You ever chew on tin foil with cavities? Imagine that, it'll be a lot less painful."
"How'd it happen? The boy is stupid, that's how."
"You're a strapping young thing."
In the Original: He's a salesman.
In Ours: Still a salesman.
Give this role a bit of a deeper/raspy voice. We want him to seem like he's seasoned and a bit worn.
"Well hi there little lady, what can I get for you?"
"H...how much money do you have... exactly?"
"You want to buy... my store?"
In the Original: He was just a dude that attack Lyra in Be Thou for the People
In Ours: We wanted to give him more personality and some fun one liners, so while this is a minor role, it should prove to be a fun one. We're looking for a southern, deep voice here. Not cartoonishly deep, just deep.
"You threw that little girl good, you did!"
"That's it, I'm only okay with violence against children when Halling does it!"
"Oooooh shiny!"

In the Original: A guard that is posted outside of Shou's estate.
In Ours: Same thing but he has a short conversation.. May come back once or twice down the line.
Hey, Carl. You ever stop to think about how few alchemists there are considering that almost anyone can be one? I mean shouldn’t we be using alchemy for literally everything?
(Confused) But it’s not midnight yet…
In the Original: A guard that is posted outside of Shou's estate.
In Ours: Same thing but he has a short conversation.. May come back once or twice down the line.
Kevin, questions like that are why we’re stuck on Shou duty while Gary and Floyd get to help with the Chopper case. Don’t question the hierarchy.
Make way for the Ironblood Alchemist, Brigadier General, Basque Grande!
Oh no, it was an elaborate ruse!
In the original: Barry is basically Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.
In ours: Barry/Sherri will literally have Dis-associative Identity Disorder and (The male version) will essentially remain the same as the original.
[To a mirror] Would you **** me? I'd **** me. I'd **** me hard.
It rubs the lotion on its skin and does as its told. Now it puts the lotion in the basket.
PUT THE ****ING LOTION IN THE BASKET.[Shouting] You don't know what pain is!
In the original: Barry is basically Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.
In ours: Barry/Sherri will literally have Dis-associative Identity Disorder and (The female version) will essentially be incredibly helpful. She volunteers at shelters, acts as a psychiatrist when people need someone to talk to, etc. Think of this character like James McAvoy's character in "Split".
Hi, I brought some extra food from the restaurant. I hope it'll help.
Thank you, I fell and twisted my ank- OH DEAR GOD HE'S COMING, RUN!
Now, are you mad because you're going to die or are you mad because you're afraid of your emotions?
In the original: Edward is a sort-of cocky teen who made a grave mistake when he was younger and searches for a way to fix it. He cares deeply about doing the right thing, and helping people, the greatest of which is his brother, Alphonse.
In ours: Edward is an arrogant prodigy that believes in science above everything. The only things he cares about are his brother, and getting his leg back. Everything else is expendable. He's very blunt and doesn't have time for emotions.
"I am a prodigy! No one can Alchematize like I do!"
"Oh that's cute. You have an imaginary friend."
"I have a plan. I always have a plan."
In the original: Roy is a Colonel in what amounts to the military who is tortured by his past. He follows orders and demands the same of others in order to keep up the fascade of being a good soldier, while having plans of his own in order to rectify his wrong-doings. He's stern and strict and completely badass.
In ours: Roy is still tortured but it shows in his belittlement of those around him. He cares a lot about people but is unable to show it without being sarcastic or out-right mean. A major target of his scorn is often Ed because he sees Ed as going down the same path as he did.
"Oh look, it's little Suzy no arm."
"Havok, I thought we said you aren't allowed to talk. I remember clearly because of the migraine that led to the decision."
"Fire solves everything. Go ahead, try to think of something it can't. You can't, because I'm right."
In the original: Winry is a sweet tomboy type mechanic that helps out the brothers and makes their automail, or metal prosthetics. She's supportive and kind but also has a tendency to lash out from time to time.
In ours: She's just as arrogant as Ed and the two almost have a rivalry over who is the bigger prodigy. She doesn't make automail to help people as much as satiate her own superiority and is constantly looking for the next challenge. Her tomboyishness still stays but it manifests in more lashing out and anger than in the original.
"And remember, if you break my masterpiece, I break your face!"
"Jesus, Ed! What were you thinking?"
"You think you're a prodigy? I make paraplegics into cyborgs!"
In the original: She is the right hand woman to Roy Mustang. Also very stern and militaristic, she'll follow him where ever he goes and is usually in on all of his plans.
In ours: The ultimate "straight man" of the series, she is very serious and weary of everyone's antics. She's the one who does what needs to be done while everyone else is dicking around.
"No sir, just... no."
"Sir, it's raining outside your fire won't... no, no that's fine. Just keep snapping."
"I'll handle it. I'll handle everything."
In the original: Envy is a homunculus with a high pitched, psychotic voice. Very much an angsty teen edgelord type.
"But Luuuuust, I don't wanna be an overweight evangelical preacher!"
"Why don't we just kill 'em? They're right there. We can kill 'em. Please let me kill 'em Lust."
"Move your fat ass!"
In the original: Rose is an almost nun-like virgin figure, like Mary. She is totally enthralled by father Cornello and the church at first but grows to realize that her beliefs may be wrong.
“Did you just compare my Lord and Savior to the schizophrenic hallucinations of lonely children?”
“That, is called faith.”
“Father Cornello doesn’t let us read the devil’s books.”
In the original: Father Cornello is a deep voiced preacher that is using a philosopher's stone to trick everyone into believe he is chosen by God. He's essentially a conman.
In ours: We've decided to take the character to the next level by making him a southern preacher/quick talking con artist.
"Praise the lord!"
"See this here? This is a dead bird."
"Guard boys, seize the heathen and his suit of armor!"
In the original: Armstrong is a sort of comic relief character. Very strong and proud of his body and lineage, he works with Mustang to try to undo the crimes of their past and tries to protect the Elrics.
In ours: He's the wise sage type, still comedic and still protective, he always has words of wisdom that everyone tends to agree with. Except, his voice is always muddled because his mustache is so thick. When you audition for him try to make it sound like he's chewing on his mustache through his lines. Almost like Kenny from South Park.
"I have a plan. If we punch him reaaaally hard in the mouth..."
"In the Armstrong family we solve everything with our fists and facial hair."
"Do you think you're ready for my greased up body?
In the original: The loving mother of the Elric's. Very supportive and kind, but doesn't last long.
"Oh boys, those are lovely."
"Your father just went out to buy milk for a few... years."
"It's okay, I love you."
In the original: Hohenheim is very much an absentee father but for good reason. He's a strong man and does care about his family but has a greater calling to attend to.
"She's lying! I'm abandoning yooou!"
"You got a good leg there son."
"Oh yeah, kids. I forgot I have a few of those."
In the original: Maes is a family man and Mustang's best friend. While he's usually about showing off his kid and having fun, when things get serious, he buckles down.
"Have you seen my family? They're fucking adorable."
"Relax Mustang, the last time you got this upset we got a new philosopher's stone."
"It's been a fun few months."
In the original: Gracia is a loving and caring mother and wife, the definition of a nuclear mom.
"Yes... that's my husband. Always the jokester... heh heh..."
"Please stay with us. PLEASE."
"Marriage is great. It's like spending your life in a constant state of bliss where you pretend like nothing is wrong and only cry at night in the seclusion of darkness."
In the original: Tucker is just the worst. He's an alchemist that specializes in creating chimeras and has a soft voice that alludes to something much more devious.
"My wife left us a very long time ago to be a part of something... greater."
"This is my daughter Nina, and our dog Alexander. They're inseparable. Or will be anyways."
"My name is Shou Tucker and you're going to hate me."
In the original: Nina was an innocent, naive, and lovable child. Close to her father and her dog, she made a connection with the Elric brothers by hanging out with them and treating them like older brothers.
"This is my doggy, Alexander. He has four legs. How many do you have Edward?"
"I used to hear screams a lot from the basement at night. It's kinda hard to fall asleep without them now."
"I've always wanted a little sister."
In the original: Scar is a man on a quest for vengeance. Like the Elrics he has a tragic past that has gifted him a great ability, but unlike them he is gravely serious and uses that power for revenge.
"The hell are you? Well... can't let this thing live."
"I absolutely want to fight you."
"Fuck this rock, fuck this road, fuck your face."
In the original: The stern leader of the military, he has a nearly grandfather-like attitude towards everything. His good-natured fascade, however, clearly covers up something darker.
In ours: We plan on playing up the dual nature of the character by having him be incredibly jolly and happy one minute and then uncomfortably serious the next, as if comically bipolar.
"Oh yes boys, ha. Good show. I used to have fun and games as well."
"Damn Mustang, ha ha, that was cold! Like the blade of a saber slowly sliding into a chest cavity."
"We have fun here. But then we work. But then we have fun again."
Jean Havok is cocky, arrogant, a self-proclaimed "ladies man". Go over the top with your "cool guy voice". Read him like someone trying WAY too hard to be awesome. The guy has HUGE self-confidence issues and in all likelyhood is never being real with anyone. Like the mythological Pan, the guy is a trickster, or at least thinks he is. This should be a really fun role because not only will he have good one-liners, he'll also be put in place a lot by the rest of the supporting cast so you'll have that opportunity to play the boisterous cocky guy, and the downtrodden "why is everyone picking on me?" guy. Have fun with it.
I don't know what the Colonel wants with you. The giant suit of armor, I get. But you, you look like a toddler and have the personality of a cactus up the ass.
Man, I'm telling you... if I had an hour alone with Lieutenant Hawkeye I'm tellin' ya, I would (she turns towards him) RESPECT HER AND ALL WOMEN.
Huh, well this seems like a situation I don't want to be a part of.
Basque Grand should have an over the top and very dramatically deep voice. For this role he will be very similar to the character Leopold on The Simpsons except there's no quick snap to nice and cheerful. He's a vicious character from start to finish.
"I am Basque Grand. This is my fist! I use it when I'm pissed!"
"MECHA GRAND! KILL! KILL! KILL!"
"When I'm through with you, Your brains will plaster the side--wah?"
In the Original: Scheska is a socially awkward bookworm with an eidetic memory who mostly just stays in the library.
In Ours: She's still a socially awkward bookworm but she also has a bit of an edge when she wants to. She can be sarcastic at times, and a straight-up stalker at others. Really play up the nerdy awkward obsessed type with the last line.
No yeah, let’s talk about your thing instead of helping me carry all these books.
Sorry, little buddy but that watch doesn’t mean shit here. To gain access to those books you’d have to be someone important like a Colonel or General.
Hey, I just uhh.... saw you.... walking around and I thought.... maybe.... you were thinking about me all day long or something, I don't know. That's weird right? Or is it? Is that weird, if... someone does that?
In the Original: This is barely a character.
In Ours: She is a sassy character and co-worker to Scheska at the library. We may give her a name later but right now, just think of a DMV worker who is done with everyone else's bullshit and hates her job.
*Note: We understand the low hanging fruit that many shows go with in terms of black characters. Please note that we are not looking for a stereotypical "ghetto" voice. Just a simple sassy woman's voice is fine.
Hey Scheska, would you look at this little bitch over here, ordering me around like he’s the Fuhrer.
I literally cannot care about anything you're talking about right now.
Ohh... I would help you out but I just can't seem to understand what you need. You see, I don't speak bitch.
In the Original: Literally just a guard that tries to stop Scar from going into the library.
In Ours: Think someone who is all tough online but when confronted with a threat in real life becomes the "Beta male" that he calls others. This may be a reoccurring character down the line.
(unconfident sqeeky voice)
Uh, I’m sorry sir, you can’t come in here!(whimpering sqeeky yelling)
But you can’t!
(defeated sqeeky voice)
Bested again by a true chad...
In the Original: Little kid going through trauma after seeing his mother brutally murdered.
In Ours: Little kid going through trauma after seeing his mother brutally murdered.
(Sobbing)
Why did the mean man do this? Mommy! I want my mommy!(Scared)
Don’t touchel me! I want my mommy!
Meryl is a very minor character, for now. She's all business and to the point but really takes joy in figuring things out and out-thinking others. Her voice is reflective of this by sounding like an inquisitive, young business woman. Don't play up the age with this one. Go for young but mostly serious. Think someone like Penny from Inspector Gadget, if she were in her early 20s. She also has a fun side that comes out when she figures things out. She has a sense of pride in her work and in her abilities which makes her a bit cocky. Almost the female Sherlock Holmes of the series, in terms of personality, but less socially awkward.
Wait, you said he had blonde hair?
We don't care about any of that, we just want to know how the damn house burned down.
Right, I see what you're getting at but I would like to counter your argument with a JACKET FULL OF GUNS.
Milly is the Pinky to Meryl's Brain, so to speak. She's kind, a bit naive, with a higher pitched voice. Eternally optimistic, she doesn't always get what's going on entirely but she's always hopeful and smiling. She's the character who kind of grounds Meryl and together the two are a really good duo. Think happy when you audition for for, and bit child-like but not entirely naive. She does have shining moments of brilliance, mostly due to the fact that everyone else overthinks everything, while she kinda just sees the forest the trees. She sees what everyone else is missing, because they're looking too hard. So think kind, sweet, and endearing, but not stupid.
And you said he had a red jacket?
I understand nothing you just said but I appreciate the enthusiasm!
It's him! I have a seventh sense about these things.
In the Original: Kyle is a little kid.
In Ours: Kyle is a still a little kid and has a very southern drawl. His parents are The Hallings and he has a crush on Ed.
"Pa! I done it! I done knocked me out a wife!"
"Don’t you threaten my pa! Only mama and child services can threaten my pa!"
"Pa, the bar was all we had, and it barely kept us fed! What’re we gonna do?!"
