Wildfire Woods
Project Overview
Wildfire Woods: Scoria Silence is a 2D animated pilot about Flint, a fire creature, trying to overcome anxiety in a world that's afraid of them. After being exiled from their home, a civic land called the Hearth, by their hero, everything seems hopeless. Now in a dangerous, unknown forest, Flint is forced to rediscover the world and themself all over again. However, Flint can do anything when someone's got their back. The script is 15 pages long. If any more info is needed, let me know! I appreciate it. Also, not all of these pictures are final character designs. Most of the audition lines aren't in the actual script, but all come from scenarios I imagine would happen in this universe. I can't wait to hear your takes on the characters!
You might notice that with minor characters, the total word estimate is lower than the words in the audition lines. That probably seems weird, but, with Lighbee, Lyndon and Kera, not a single of the audition lines is in the actual script. I really wanted to give a lot of room to get into the voice of the characters and understand them, especially since Lyndon and Lighbee would return in a potential series, so I designed these audition lines to explore their emotions and showcase their character, which is why they're mostly one-liners. In the actual script the lines have more context and are more affected by tone. But if this worries you in any way, don't feel obligated to submit all of their lines. Thanks!
So many awesome submissions and so much support so far! Thank you all so much!

The response so far has been absolutely insane. Thank you all for following the project and submitting! I can't tell you how much it means to me that so many people are enthusiastic about my cartoon. I did a fun poster which is now the cover image for the project! I hope you all like it!
Flint is an agender fire creature and goes by they/them pronouns. A non-binary actor would be preferred, but I would cast an actor of any gender! Their gender isn't very important to their actual character or the plot, so I'd love to hear your voice regardless!
Flint is sassy, energetic and full of spirit. They’re naturally very bright and curious, making them a very open and supportive friend. They have millions of questions about the world. Half of their time they’re busy wandering and daydreaming, so sometimes it’s hard to fit in actual decisions and progress. However, looking into things this much has led them to have a cynical outlook. Their excessive paranoia of evil kills all of their spirit, and they tend to shut down when overwhelmed by it. This makes it hard for them to deal with the world at all and find what really matters most: people they can count on. If someone has their back, though, Flint can do anything. At least, they act like it. They seem to have a dangerous love for risk, and this is only fed in the heart of adventure, where their energy is in full bloom.
“I don’t think money can salvage someone as crunchy as you.”
“[MANIACAL LAUGHTER] FINALLY! Things were getting too normal around here!”
(Reflecting on Lyndon.)
“Yeah, Lyndon’s a really dedicated artist! Or he’s trying to end the world. I haven’t decided yet.”
“I’ve always wanted to explore the palace someday. Maybe I’ll meet Vega! What if there’s a dungeon? Or a sanctum? Or a MAILROOM? [EXCITED GIGGLE]”
“Some people are just at constant war with their own truths. I think it’s always been that way.”
“Yeah! You’re like, the funniest person I’ve ever met. Don’t forget that.”
Viridi is a fire creature and goes by he/him pronouns
Viridi has a way with people. He seems to know EVERYONE on the Hearth, because naturally, Viridi is very social, hilarious, and snappy. However, he always seems to need to be WINNING, leading him to often be overly competitive or overbearing in conversations. But when he feels actually scared or threatened, he’s dead quiet. When it comes down to it, Viridi is a coward, and he will always run and hide despite his high and mighty exterior. However, Viridi’s actually a lot more intelligent than he appears. He’s witty, can see right through most problems and people, and when jumping to conclusions (as he usually does), he tends to be uncannily accurate. Deep down, Viridi really cares about his friends and family the most, and perhaps that’s why he’s so eager to meet new people.
“But you said “Don’t worry about PAYING” and spit your drink everywhere. Look.”
“I’m not THAT new to teaching. I don’t need your advice.”
“These things were not built for safety. I don’t know if we should…”
“Get out of here! What are you doing, bossing her around? - WAIT NO! SPARE ME! I’M SORRY!”
“Flint! This is my best friend, Cassie. We met 20 and a half minutes ago. Oh, how the seconds fly by…”
Lighbee (Lie-bee) is a fire creature and goes by she/her pronouns
At the side of the most powerful person on the Hearth, Lighbee is living the dream. She’s one of the most brilliant minds of her time, a superpowered inventor/engineer/doctor/… you get the idea. There is nothing she respects more than intellect. She’s stern, logical, and doesn’t take crap from anybody, except Vega. To her, life is survival of the fittest, and the magic of friendship didn’t get her to this position, so she’s not very emotional. But if we’re being honest, she has the best job ever, and can’t help but show it. Lighbee wants things to stay like this forever, and when she feels like she might lose it, she shuts up, kicks it up a notch, and works harder, because that’s the only thing she knows how to do.
“Don’t even try that! Focus on your work instead of wasting your time trying to disparage me. You’re making it worse for yourself.”
(Asked a question about the number of Vega’s gardens)
Official gardens? Ah, these days, there’s too many to count… But I could. I’ll make a spreadsheet!
“Everyone gather! Our new channel design is working exceptionally well. Clear the main subatrium… please.”
“It’ll be a few days. Vega’s in one of his “creative wells” again. *scoff* “
“So this is life. Constantly trudging towards some unseen finish line, with not a moment to enjoy the simple things. Back to work! [GIGGLE]!”
“DON’T you doze off! It’s not even 3 am yet.”
Vega is a fire creature and goes by he/him pronouns.
Vega is the leader of the Hearth. He has been for centuries, and for good reason. Nobody quite understands why his lifespan is so long, and why he still seems so youthful, even when he explains it. One thing’s for certain though, not a moment of his life has gone to waste, because he’s spent it all learning, discovering, and becoming the best person he can be. He has a boundless passion for knowledge, and he gets carried away with enthusiasm, even for mundane things. Vega is perfect. He’s very sweet and never makes anyone else feel smaller than him, aspiring to lift everyone’s voices. He’s also smart, determined, and decisive, he always knows what to do or say, and how to put plans into action. Talk about a machine. However, when he feels vulnerable, Vega can obnoxiously lash out, and manipulate things into going his way. When he gets like this, he will always shut everything down so he can go study or read alone for days on end, but not before leaving everyone convinced that it was all their fault.
“There is something here. Do you feel it? Whatever that is… that’s what we’re missing.”
“Mistakes are powerful tools in the pursuit of your potential.”
“You didn’t read the journal I gave you, did you? It doesn’t matter. Just remember to stay informed, stay ambitious, and stay inspired.”
(threatening)
“As I was saying. Assaulting a monument, deliberately or otherwise, is worthy of exile.”
“We would not have accomplished this project without your exceptional help. Here’s the key to undercroft 14. Use the space to pursue your vision.”
January is a forest creature and goes by she/her pronouns.
An aggressively positive control freak. And yes, she’s ripped. If January sets her mind on something, she can be infuriatingly hard to stop. It’s usually best to not even try. She goes for the gold and commits herself all the way (never let near a casino). She is very positive and friendly, and always in a good mood. She’ll do literally anything to help someone in need. January is always at 100% and jumps to action without thinking, leading her to say and do things without considering the consequences. When something bad happens, she feels like it’s all her fault and gives herself a really hard time. As responsible and accountable as she is, she’s a kid, and can’t do everything alone.
“I’m great! Thanks for SMACKING THAT JERK in my honor!”
“If someone tells me to stop one more time… something bad is going to happen.”
(Asked a personal question about her friend)
“I don’t know if it’d hurt her feelings. It’s just… not my place to say.”
“OKAY, okay! You don’t have to come with me, but I’m going. It's just a vicious monster. Those are supposed to happen.”
“I’m DEAD serious. It’s never too late. We’re doing this thing!”
Kera is a fire creature and goes by he/him pronouns.
Kera is your usual, sleazy con artist. He comes from a big family that owns a very successful transportation business, because of their ability to run fast and carry people on their backs. Kera’s spent his whole life getting what he wants and using his family’s power to get his way, and all of it’s wasted because his parents have cut him off. Something about learning “respect” and “accountability” ... whatever that means. Now the only thing he’s skilled in is taking advantage of people. He can’t even really defend himself. Good thing he can run.
“Relax. We made a deal, didn’t we? This is the part where you pay me back, or I call the police. It’s that simple.
(smiling)
“Oh no. You lost! How unfortunate. Really, I wish I could help.”
“You can’t just do that to me! I’m telling!”
“Wait no. I’m supposed to scam YOU! Get back here!”
“It’s not my fault you don’t pay attention to who you trust.”
Lyndon is a forest creature and goes by he/him pronouns.
January and Calitresor’s boss, a blacksmith. He’s a creative artisan and a very caring person. Lyndon is very stupidly in love with his craft, so much so that even Calitresor Blore, his apprentice that will listen to anything he says, thinks it’s weird. He feels responsible for the kids he’s hired to help out at the forge, and would do anything to protect them. Like a cool wholesome dad that does his best to be firm, but can’t help but be a pushover sometimes.
(Hears Calitresor, Flint, and January gossiping about his impractical goggles)
(playful)
“I can hear you. I know you can’t help it because you have zero taste, but my goggles make me look cool. All three of you are fired.”
“Fine. Here are my keys. Walk AROUND the giant steel rat in the middle of the room.”
“You don’t have to call me by any of that Mr. Sir stuff like January does. I’ve always
liked it when I’m just Lyndon. January just won’t stop.”
“Fine. I’m going to bed because I’m old and boring and like sleep.”
“Oh my God. Fine, you can go. But don’t talk to anyone out there. You promise?”
“*frustrated dad grumble* What does this label say?”
The Harfle is a forest monster and is referred to by it/its pronouns
This is a creature voice.
An 800 ton, serpent-like ancient tunnel beast. Everyone knows and fears the Harfle. You’d have to be insane to enter its territory on top of that plateau. Usually. It spends most of its time underground and dormant, but it is able to feel the vibrations of anything that walks into the area. When it’s above ground, it will launch itself into the sky to catch anything that flies by. As barbaric as it sounds, The Harfle isn’t a mindless brute. If anyone ever lived long enough to communicate with it, they’d find that The Harfle has an extremely intelligent understanding of the world, beyond what any human mind could comprehend. Its roar is like a terrible, anguished, and weirdly human scream.
*LOUD SCREAMING*
*HUMMING*
*GROWLING*
