The Call of the Flame (Chapter 14)

Project Overview

Not long after the Tribe of Gods shaped the world and enkindled the stars, the many races were led to name their lands. The plains of Human Wynland, the dunes of Dwarven Kanduk, the mountains of Orcan Workingar. And the three Gods--as unique in morality as their own elements, bestow their unique elemental magic to the few they deem worthy. Rhuadu—Chieftan of Gods, grants the gift of fire and strength, Duinna—Nature’s Guardian, the power of enchantment and alchemy, and Koannus—the Deep God, grants power over sea and soul.

Three there were. Now only two remain to grant their power.

The story centers on a girl named Bri, a barmaid and now, Chosen One, who carries Rhuadu's gift of fire after he was slain by her own father. With the companions she met along the road, she has to prepare herself and her country for the coming of Neradial, the Chosen One of the Deep God.

Rates:

As of now: compensation for recordings are at $0.25 per script line (essentially a half sentence of 5-8 words) plus $10 flat rate. Rounded off to the highest. Despite that, no role--even if it's 1 line, would be compensated less than $11.

For example Bri, who speaks 169 times in Chapters 1 & 2 together (313 script lines), is $53. A reoccurring role like Ultovin would make $19 for his appearance in Chapters 1 & 2.

We will have a Patreon page, and the podcast will be open for sponsors. If/when it gains some traction, all rates will be put into review. But until then I’m going in under the assumption it’ll fall completely on me for funding, which I’m totally prepared for. Still, I want to be fair, but at this time this is the only rate I can promise—it’s also the rate for which I’ve paid voice actors before for other projects.

Above all, I want to work with people who love voice acting for the fun of it. I love working on this stuff and hope to collaborate with people who love it too.

How to Audition:

  • Send them to us here, or at [redacted]. Subject: Audition for (character name) from (username). Send them as either an attachment or a link, but preferably an attachment.

  • Make sure to minimize noises or bumps while recording. Only your voice should be apparent. If you like to filter or remove vocal tics, be sure to include the unfiltered version as well.

  • Record in .WAV.

  • Save as: cotf_username_audition (ex. CotF_Taruk_RubbishMan_audition.wav).

  • We will critique if requested. We also accept redos.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail us at [redacted].

Since this is an Audio Drama, all of the show's emotion and humor must be conveyed through the character's voices, so be sure to show off your emotional range.

Note: We value acting ability over a voice that matches a character, so don't let your vocal pitch deter you from auditioning.

We welcome auditioning for multiple roles as long as you can make each of them a bit different!

We look forward to working with you guys! Also happy to answer any and all questions in comments or as a PM. Or even directly sent to my email.

King Hatima
open
Paid: Per Hour 115 USD

The ruler of Kanduk, a realm inspired by the Empire Mali, in the world of CotF home of Humans and Dwarves. He stands in the eye of a storm, as the Elvan Empire reawakens and makes its bid for control over the known world again. He intends to play things safe, to maintain peace with the Elvan Empress for the time, which puts him at odds with his daughter who intends to challenge her outright.

Much of his dialogue is taken from West African philosophy.

Voice: West African accent, Nigerian is listed only because it's one of the few regional accent options. Calm but majestic, paternal but patient.

  • [A Dance with Dragons] "I am not blind, nor deaf. I know you all believe me weak, frightened, feeble. Amana is ever the viper. Deadly, dangerous, unpredictable. No man dare tread on her. I am the grass. Pleasant, complaisant, sweet-smelling, swaying with every breeze. Who fears to walk upon the grass? But it is the grass that hides the viper from its enemies and shelters them until it strikes."

  • [King Lear] "The weight of this sad time we must obey. Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say. The oldest hath borne most: we that are young shall never see so much, nor live so long."

Princess Amana
open
Paid: Per Hour 115 USD

This is a reoccurring part, her intro is in Chapter 14.

The idealistic Princess of Kanduk and daughter of Hatima. Contrasting her father and Kingdom's prosperous and optimistic outlook with impatience and rash actions as she seeks to take justice into her own hands. Less a diplomat and more a warrior.

Voice: West African accent, Nigerian is listed only because it's one of the few regional accent options. Youthful, fearsome, but behind her fervor is a deep love and desire to protect her family and her people.

  • [The Return of the King] "All your words are but to say: you are a woman, and your part is in the house. But when the men have died in battle and honor, you have leave to be burned in the house, for the men will need it no more. But I am of the House of Kanduk and not a serving-woman. I can ride and wield blade, and I do not fear either pain or death." ["What do you fear, lady?"] "A cage. To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire."

  • [A Storm of Swords] ["You're going to fight that!?"] "I'm going to kill that!"

Duchess Tatjana

Paid: Per Hour 115 USD

The regent ruler of Ratthen. Less of a terrible and ruthless dictator and more of an ignorant and debauched rich woman. Annoyed at the idea of civil unrest, happy so long as the city vigilants line her pockets. Willfully looking the other way when it comes to how the money is made.

Voice: German accent. Prestitous, nose upturned during most of her talk. Quite shrill when panicking (which she will often).

  • [The Desolation of Smaug] "All this talk of change must be suppressed! I can't afford to let them rebel, band together and start making noises. The next thing you know, they'll start asking questions, forming committees, launching inquiries."

  • [Marie Antoinette] "Yes, it is true the fact I have lead an extraordinary lifestyle; but it is not my fault for downfall of Ratthen! This happened long before my marriage took place!"

Commander Bolas

Paid: Per Hour 115 USD
cast offsite

No-nonsense, playful, ruthless, inquisitive, and far more intelligent than he appears. He's sort of this world's equivalent of the Sheriff of Nottingham, a rival to Robert De Courtney. There will be many mind games, scenes where the suspense lies in how much he knows or intends to find out.

Voice: German accent, anywhere from late 20's to late 30's in terms of age. Down to Earth in tone, he shouldn't evoke Nazi villains necessarily with their upturned noses and snooty clean exterior.

  • [Hans Landa] "I read the report on this area. But like any enterprise, when under new management, there's always a slight duplication of efforts. Most of it being a complete waste of time, but it needs to be done nevertheless. I just have a few questions sir. If you can assist me with answers, my department can close the file on your family."

  • [Robin Hood: POT] "Would you prefer pain or death?" ["Death."] "Torture him. How about you? Pain or death?" ["Er, Pain."] "Torture him. You see? It makes no difference."

Paid: Per Hour 115 USD

The common clay of Ratthen, the oppressed villagers, city people, and oppressors alike.

Voice: Germanic accents. Though the more nordic ones would belong to Orc folk in the city, which I am also open to casting.

  • [Vigilant] "Looks like a big fire we have here, I tell you what miss, just because I like the look of you, I'll put this one out for... thirty coppers."

  • [Servant] "We didn't see you, ma'am, you were never here. [whisper] Hail the true King."

  • [Villager] "They came shortly after you all arrived, to undo what you all had done. You should never have come here."

  • "Defend the Palace!"
