Project: ESCAPE - Round Two

Project: ESCAPE - Round Two

Project Overview

Project: ESCAPE (WIP name) is a puzzle/adventure game, blending together puzzle gameplay with a rich narrative via more typical visual novel elements in the vein of games such as 999 or Virtue's Last Reward. The continuation from the initial prototype focuses on an expanded cast of characters that Kevin and Alice stumble upon almost moments after escaping their cell. As it turns out, this nightmare they find themselves thrust into is far from over. More puzzles lie in wait for them. More mysteries are afoot. And strangest of all...their captor is revealed to be a maniacal cat. Will this ragtag group of individuals be able to work together to escape this seemingly unending gauntlet of challenges, or will despair consume them before they escape?

This is the continuation of an existing project, and you can see the initial opening of that game by clicking [here], if you're curious!

---

Hiya there! Thank you for checking the thread out! As the title states, I'm in search of two voice actors and five voice actresses to fill the roles of the seven characters I have for the continuation of my project.

To sum the project up, it up, it's essentially an adventure puzzle game with heavy visual novel elements. So you'll explore environments, search for clues, gather items and ultimately solve puzzles! This is the second segment of an on-going, almost episodic style series I'm putting together, and I was really happy with how the first part came together, and am excited to bring the second part to life, given all the colourful new characters that make their debut!

Auditions will be held from May 1st to May 15th.

From there, depending on the volume of submissions, a day or two will be set aside to go over the auditions sent in and determine who will be cast. In the event of there being an insufficient amount of auditions for any given role, or somebody is unable to take the role after being cast, the audition deadline may be extended a further week or two depending on the situation. Please take the following into account when submitting an audition:

  • Have a clear microphone. (No background noise, fuzziness, etc.)

  • I ask that all those who may audition are at least 18 years of age

  • This is a paid job, ensuring a minimum of $80 for each character--though several characters have varying, higher amounts depending on how much they're involved in the given part.

  • Katherine, Christie and the Warden (Cat) all have extended roles in this particular segment and will get $120 per role. Blake's role will get $100 due to having an extended role, but not as extensive as the aforementioned characters.

  • You may audition for as many of the characters as you wish.

  • If you audition for either the human or cat warden, ideally I'd wish for you to also audition for the other, as they come as a pair of sorts, where the cat is being voiced by the human. But I may be willing to make an exception to this if I felt one voice was perfect for the cat and vice versa for the human warden.

  • Regarding the cat character, while no actual gender has been attributed to them, I've included them as a female role because it's to be expected that whoever is chosen for the human warden would voice the cat, too for consistency's sake, given it's implied she's voicing it and such, if that makes sense!

  • For the cat's voice, it was difficult to put it into short, brief terms that would fit within the scope of the listing, but think along the lines of characters such as Morgana from Persona 5 and Monokuma from Danganronpa if that helps! The warden herself would have traces of this in her voice to make it apparent she voices the avatar, but not be as exaggerated herself.

  • This is intended to be a series of episodic style releases that'll be released for free and no money will be made off of it on my side. I'm making this purely for the fun of it.

  • In terms of content that will be expected to be voiced, this game will be essentially an 'all-ages' visual novel, with the extent of things being very minor cursing. (Crap, damn, hell, etc.)

  • Audition lines have been split into two parts per line: the actual line to be recorded, and the vocal direction to accompany it, to give an idea as to the emotion and intent behind the line. Needless to say, the 'DIRECTION' part of the audition line doesn't need to be recorded. I apologise for how cluttered it makes the line look this time around but the field to input lines is far more restrictive than it used to be, haha. ;~;

If you have any questions regarding anything here, about the characters, or the project itself, please feel free to get in touch via a comment or PM.Thank you for your time and I'm looking forward to hearing your auditions!

  • Cast List

    Heya, everyone!

Sorry for the silence! It took a lot longer than I anticipated to narrow down some roles, and didn't want to put parts of the cast up piecemeal until I had it all ready at once, but I'm happy to announce all those who were cast!

    Katherine: Rachael Messer

    Blake: Daniel Van Thomas

    Trevor: Michael Malconian

    Christie: Blair Greene-Osako
    Lily: Sandy Can
Warden (Human & Cat): Madison Lee

Some auditioned off-site, so I wasn't able to slot people into every role officially--but hopefully this gives a good idea now! I don't have any idea why even though the people that auditioned on here are being marked as offsite too though, aaaa. If anyone can help me with that in case I did something wrong that'd be helpful!

Sorry again for dragging my feet for so long, and a big thank you to everyone who auditioned for this particular part of the game! I was blown away by the amount of auditions I received and am truly thankful for all the love and interest that was shown! It was a near impossible task to narrow it down, too, but I hope you'll enjoy the game and the performances from all of these amazing VAs!

The next update I'll post will be when this part of the game launches--which may be a little while longer yet, but it should be fun!

  • Small update! + Mini extra audition for one female character

Heya everyone, I hope you're doing well!

I realise it's been a little while now since auditions ended and wanted to apologise for the silence. It was very daunting going through 700+ auditions (and 100+ offsite) but I just wanted to say that after a lot of agonising I've narrowed things down and will be reaching out to those I think are the best fit very soon just to confirm they're still happy to accept the role before finalising it on the site!

In the case of a couple of characters I've also reached out to several people I felt were close to hitting the mark and asked for some tweaked retakes, of which I'm waiting to hear back from before making final decisions for a couple of roles!

In addition, as the title states--the main secondary protagonist Alice, who was featured in the prototype, will also be in need of a new voice. And while I won't be creating an entirely new audition page just for her, I am putting out there that I'm doing a little mini audition of sorts for her where I'll send audition details for any female VAs interested in that and may wish to take a shot at it, too! So get in touch if you'd like to know more about that too.

Thanks again and I hope to be able to post the full cast list once I've reached out to everyone fully soon! You guys are the best!

  • Auditions are now over!

    Hiya there, everyone!

First of all--I wanted to give a big thank you to everyone that has auditioned, wow! I wasn't anticipating this level of interest at all and have been completely blown away by the sheer number of auditions per character. I think this is a new record for one of my projects, haha.

Now that the deadline has passed, I'm going to be setting some time aside to go over everything that has been submitted, and make my final decisions on who to cast. Due to the volume of submissions, this will probably take an additional day or two before anything final is decided--and for the sake of transparency, the auditions have been hosted off-site too, so there's an additional volume of auditions that have to be listened through there as well.

Rest assured I'll be listening to everything sent my way, character by character, and am sure it's going to be incredibly tough to narrow it down, but I'm excited to delve in and see everyone's interpretations of the characters.

I'll post the next update once final casting decisions have been made.

    Thanks again for all of the auditions, support and kind words towards the project! You guys are too kind ;~;

Voice: Cold, blunt, indifferent, dignified

Cold. Calm. Cautious. Confident. Composed. Dubbed an 'ice queen' by a certain hot-headed inmate who clashes with her like fire against ice, Katherine, introducing herself as simply 'K', is an eerily level-headed anomaly in a group otherwise utterly baffled by the situation they all find themselves in.

She isn't much for conversation and will shut down any attempts at small-talk, wanting nothing more than to focus on whatever bizarre puzzle or task may be waiting for them.

Despite the rather cold front, though, deep down she isn't nearly as icy-hearted as she makes herself out to be--and anyone who spends enough time with her may bear witness to a very rare smile as her playful side surfaces.

The dignified manner in which she speaks and carries herself--when she rarely does actually talk--suggests she comes from a rather well-off family.

  • "...If you must. Be quick about it, though--time is running out." -- (DIRECTIONS: Lets out an exasperated sigh as she obliges with a request to team up, offering her hand up idly for Kevin and her to link together with the special handcuffs that let teams of two pass through puzzle doors. She isn't thrilled to be paired with him)

  • "As much as I hate the fact that these words are actually coming out of my mouth...the cat is right. We're not going to achieve much of anything here unless we actually start investigating the area. Or what--do you want to argue with a cartoon some more?" -- (DIRECTIONS: Sounding disgusted with herself that she's even acknowledging their captor as a real thing before insisting that Kevin stops goofing around with the cat on the monitor and to focus on the puzzle room they're in, getting in a jab at him at the end on how ridiculous he looks arguing.)

  • "...Ahuhu... You know...you remind me of a puppy I once had..." -- (DIRECTIONS: After she's warmed up a little with Kevin and feels more comfortable letting her more sly, playful side crop up. The 'ahuhu' is a teasing, almost sultry style laugh, leaning far more into her nobility.)

Voice: Peppy, young, energetic, kind

Energetic, brimming with positivity, and almost always dazzling others with her infectious grin, Christie is a beacon of optimism in an otherwise strange and foreboding environment.

Serving as a secondary leader of sorts--after Trevor quickly cracks--she does her best to rally everyone and keep despair from setting in too deep. A people person at heart, she's able to effortlessly get along with almost everyone in the group and encourage them all to do their best, even able to coax more than a few words at a time from out of the ever mysterious Katherine.

She embraces the big sister-like role that unexpectedly lands in her lap with open arms, seeming to never let anything get her down.

I say we give it our all and tackle whatever they throw our way! Can't hurt, right?" -- (DIRECTIONS: Cheerfully introducing herself to Kevin, seemingly largely unaffected by the wild situation that they find themselves in, almost welcoming it as a challenge.)

  • "Heehee... Having a little trouble there, Kevin? Not one for weightlifting then, I take it? Don't worry--give me a week once we're out of here and I'll have you lifting like a pro!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Lighthearted amusement at Kevin struggling to lift a heavy object that she carries one of alongside him with ease, rather than poke fun at his weakness, she takes this as a chance to suggest improvement, cheerfully offering to help.)

  • "C'mon, guys! Let's keep it together just a little longer! We've made it this far, haven't we? It's just a little further now, I'm sure! I know it's tough--but we can do this!" -- (DIRECTIONS: As despair begins to set in amongst the group, Christie is quick to take the stage and rally everyone with encouragement and optimism, trying to get everyone to push for one last challenge.)

Voice: Timid, young, ever so slight 'nerdy' inflection

The most timid member of the group. Which is really saying something when she has Kevin and Trevor to compete with. Skittish and perpetually on the verge of tears, she hasn't taken well to her baffling surroundings at all.

Once calmed--which is easier said than done--Lily demonstrates herself to be a girl of keen intellect and insight, able to spot things the others may have missed, and piece together puzzles that are stumping everyone else.

Her large, shiny doe eyes do wonders to disarm those around her and instill a desire to protect her from harm. Surely not on purpose though, right...?

And...I just...*hic*...want to go home already!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Still fairly shaky and panicky as she first meets everyone, introducing herself amid a sobbing fit before breaking down at the end after trying to keep herself together long enough for introductions and failing.)

  • "Oh... Thank you, eh-heh... I-I appreciate it... Sorry to be such a bother..." -- (DIRECTIONS: Having calmed down considerably now, shyly thanking someone for their aid, embarrassed that they had to help her to begin with and feeling as though she's dragging the team down at the end.)

  • "Well...u-uhm...think about it this way... What if each of the letters here matches up with a number? Does...does that make sense? Sorry...I could be wrong... Just ignore me..." -- (DIRECTIONS: Nervously giving aid during a puzzle, despite feeling as though she knows the answer to it, her lack of confidence prevents her from committing to the answer and only giving vague hints before wavering.)

Voice: Brash, rough, intimidating

Boasting a personality as fiery as his ember-coloured hair--along with actual pyromaniac tendencies to back it all up--Blake is one of the rowdier inmates to be thrust into this crazy game of puzzles and deduction. Fear and confusion are pushed aside for anger and frustration as he lashes out at everyone who dares to even look his way.

Despite his confrontational nature, unfiltered thoughts and temper that's quick to boil over...he isn't an outright thug. He simply just...doesn't know how to express himself properly sometimes. Which frustrates him more when people get the wrong idea.

He isn't the brightest when it comes to puzzles, either... So be prepared to hold his hand through those, lest he try to bash and burn his way through them instead.

Speaks in an abrasive manner fitting a delinquent.

  • "Y'gotta be kiddin' me... They dragged us all down here just to watch a stupid cartoon?" -- (DIRECTIONS: Frustrated and incredulous as the cat warden appears on the screen for the first time, unable to comprehend what he's witnessing as anger rises at the sheer ridiculousness of it all.)

  • "Tch--the hell with that. How 'bout we just burn our way through?! 'Cuz I don't know about you guys, but I'm gettin' stick of solvin' all these...*stupid*...puzzles!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Bluntly refuses to continue to indulge with more puzzles as he finds himself in a new room, suggesting a different manner of approach and sounding scarily enthusiastic about burning things down. Frustration boils up once more in the last sentence with an especially aggressive edge to 'stupid'.)

  • "...Sorry. I guess. Or whatever. I still think you're a complete weirdo, but we're gonna go nowhere fast unless we work together, huh? So how 'bout it... Truce?" -- (DIRECTIONS: Bashfully and begrudgingly apologising to Alice after the pair clash, being forced to work together in a puzzle room. It's clear he does feel some remorse for how far things went, but doesn't necessarily take back EVERYTHING he said. As it stands he's as bad at apologising as he is at solving puzzles.)

Voice: Polite, mature, composed (initially)

Exuding a friendly and composed demeanour right off the bat, as is fitting for one of the oldest people present in the ragtag group, Trevor quickly establishes himself as smart, reliable, and something of a natural team leader that the others gravitate to for guidance.

It's just too bad that this is a complete facade, and he in fact cracks under the slightest bit of pressure, despite his best attempts at keeping appearances up.

In both his professional and personal life, he's ultimately always hid behind others and allowed them to take the fall, while he's always kept as safe as possible, never one to take risks. He doesn't take well to being confronted with a challenge he can't back away from.

  • "And with the arrival of you two, that looks like we're seven in all. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, I'm Trevor Graven. I only wish we could have met under more, ah...favourable circumstances." -- (DIRECTIONS: Introducing himself formally as Kevin and Alice meet him first. He sounds regretful towards the end, trying to make this whole situation sound more like an inconvenience than anything)

  • "Ahaha... You flatter me. I assure you, though, I'm just as baffled as everyone else present. Panicking will get us nowhere, however. I believe it's in our best interest to assess this situation with a level head." -- (DIRECTIONS: Polite laughter as Kevin remarks how well Trevor is seemingly holding together in the face of their situation and remains modest throughout the line.)

  • "Ah... This...this really is hopeless, isn't it? It never ends! How much do we have to endure before that damned cat is satisfied?! Why us?! What did we ever do to deserve this?!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Trevor's true despairing nature begins to bubble up as he finds himself confronted with yet more puzzles, feeling as though they're endless. It starts off with a hopeless sigh as he gets more and more dejected through the line, culminating in equal parts frustration and despair in the final two sentences.)

(If you audition for the cat warden, it's highly preferred you also audition for the human warden, as they're one in the same, with the human warden voicing the cat in a more exaggerated and cartoony voice.)

Voice:
Cartoony cat-like inflection

Simply dubbed the 'Warden', this is a cartoon avatar of the true culprit running the show, who appears on a variety of monitors stationed about the underground facility. Painful cat puns galore. Annoys just about everyone they come into contact with. Can flip from one emotion to the other at the drop of a hat, and is able to manipulate their appearance on the monitor to great, cartoonish effect when their emotions run especially high.

Their cheerful, exaggerated tone and demeanour often betrays their actual words as they so gleefully talk about the 'inmates' they've imprisoned and the supposed 'games' taking place.

  • "Good meowning, everyone! Hmm... The 'hmm' indicates them taking in the sight of everyone standing before them, almost as if they're thinking over something important before casually continuing.)

  • "Huh--what was that, punk?! Y'wanna say that to my face?! Come on, step up to the screen and say that again, see what happens! I dare ya! Hsss! Mrrowwww!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Getting comically aggressive with Blake and all riled up, pushing their face up against the screen as if they want to throw down, with a range of silly cat noises at the end.)

  • "Nyahaha... I guess the cat's outta the bag now, huh? My bad, my bad~ But to be fair, nobody really asked about that until now! So it's not *all* on me, right? C'mon, guys, y'gotta take at least *some* accountability here!" -- (DIRECTIONS: Giving a rather bashful laugh as they're called out on withholding vital information from the group, but still ultimately refusing to take full responsibility as they turn it back around on them.)

(If you audition for the human warden, it's highly preferred you also audition for the cat warden, as they're one in the same, with the human warden voicing the cat in a more exaggerated and cartoony voice.)

Voice:
Cunning, playful, tiny hint of that wild, cat-like nature

The true face behind the cat. Turns out it was another...cat?

Name, age, and pretty much every other detail you could think of pertaining to this cruel kitty are unknown. She tends to run things from the shadows, and if someone were to see her in person, it would only be because something in the game had gone terribly wrong and she was forced to intervene. Otherwise, she keeps to her control room and communicates via the cartoon avatar she's so fond of.

While she uses less cat puns--and is decidedly less 'cartoony' sounding than her avatar--her manner of speech is still quite animated and over the top, as if everything is just one big joke to her--and as though she's living in a completely different reality from all those around her.

Voice description:

  • "Ahhh... They really made a mess of things this time. To think I'd have to personally get involved... Oh well. Who knows--maybe it'll be fun? After all, it's not often I get to take part in my own games, heehee~" -- (DIRECTIONS: Letting out an exaggerated sigh as she laments the situation she finds herself in, talking aloud to her before ultimately reverting to a more fun-loving tone towards the end as she realises it might not be so bad)

  • "Heh-heh... Aww, what's wrong? Giving up already? Didn't think y'were the kind of person to admit defeat so easily, Kevin! C'mon--what fun would it be if it ended *now*? You need a partner to get through the door, right? Well look no further~" -- (DIRECTIONS: Appears before Kevin right as he finds himself abandoned by everyone else and convinced he's going to die. She's thoroughly amused by the blubbering state he's in, yet there's a sense of encouragement in her words too after the initial remarks)

  • "'Whoa--time-out, time-out! I don't know what you *think* is going on here, but I can assure you--you've got it all wrong! How about you at least hear me out before you start blasting, huh?" -- (DIRECTIONS: With a weapon being pointed her way she attempts to talk her way out of a lethal situation, still clearly not THAT bothered by things as she explains her side of the story, as if confident she knows she can get out of this unharmed.)
