Pouchie The Cat - An indie video game

Project Overview

Hello everyone!

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: I noticed people were applying with rates and employment contracts, and I thought I should clarify: I picked the profit share option for the project because the game doesn't have a budget at this moment. The idea is that if the game is successful, and ends up making money, then, and only then would I be able to split profits with the people involved. So anyone applying should still think of this as a volunteer position.

I am requesting help in polishing and finishing my two and a half year solo project: Pouchie The Cat. It started off as a college assignment, but after a while, I continued to develop and expand the game beyond a mere concept. Now the game is much further along in it's progress, and has even reached the point where about half of the levels and boss battles have been completed. You can even play the game yourself and see the progress that has been made: https://thatelfnerd.itch.io/pouchie-the-cat-public-demo

That being said, two and a half years is a long time to be working on a project. And while I have had some initial help with the project in terms of some concept art from a couple of friends, it has mainly been just me doing all of the pixel art, coding, level design, and even many of the music tracks.

But I feel like the game could evolve and improve if I had a few extra sets of hands. Artists, musicians, as well as other people with a talent in game design and game development. Since this is a small indie game, I can't promise a big payout, if any. But if people end up financially supporting the project, and I can split it amongst the crew, I absolutely will. Translation: Anyone applying should consider this to be volunteer work, since the project currently has no budget. But if you're more interested in gaining experience and connections making an indie game, then feel free to share what talent you think you can offer the team! We're happy to have you!

Anyone joining the project will get their names in the credits, and can use their time working on the project as work experience when updating their resume. Please note that we do NOT accept Machine Learning/AI submissions. We want ethically-sourced art and music.

IMPORTANT NOTE: While there is only one role per position, I'll absolutely take more than one person per role, if I feel like we need the extra hands. So I won't officially close any of the roles until I'm sure we've got all the talent that we need. So don't be afraid to submit an application, even if others have already applied for the role. You might get picked regardless. That being said, all project communication will be done on discord, so please share your discord information!

As the Sprite Artist, you will assist the team in designing the in-game look of the characters, mobs, and environment either based on provided concept art, or you could create new assets for the game if the inspiration hits you. Characters and mobs would need to have animated sprites in order to actively function in the game. Also be sure to share your discord details so that I can send you an invite if I pick you!

I would like a musician that would be capable of making music that fits in the 8-bit aesthetic of Pouchie The Cat while also making music reminiscent of old Black and White cartoons, or even Loony Toons era. Also be sure to share your discord details so that I can send you an invite if I pick you!

Level designers will have the responsibility for creating levels for players to explore and navigate in order to progress through the game. People with experience in the Godot game engine would be preferred, but is not necessary if you have experience with level design. Even if it's just Super Mario Maker, your skills might have some use in this project. Also be sure to share your discord details so that I can send you an invite if I pick you!

So when it comes to the writing of Pouchie The Cat, it doesn't need to be super complex, as it's a very basic pixel platformer, but having someone to help bounce ideas off of regarding the story would come in handy. If you've written basic stories before, your skills would be welcome! Be sure to share your discord so I can easily invite you to the server if I end up picking you.

So while the main focus of the project is to finish and publish the game as a finished product, it would be cool if we could properly advertise the game. Do you know how to market and sell a game? Can you manage a social media webpage? I personally struggle with that, but if you know how to do it, it could help the game thrive, which I think would be really cool! Be sure to share your discord so that I can add you to the group, if I end up choosing you!
