Iron Lung Video Essay - Voice Actors Needed
Project Overview
The project seeks to be a video essay of the videogame "Iron Lung" by David Szymanski. I will be narrating the video personally for the most part, but there are parts of the in-game story that I would like voice acted, to add a bit of theatrical flair to the project.
Successful auditionees will be contacted after the deadline. I maintain the right to cast voice actors prematurely if I feel they are a perfect fit for the part. I also reserve the right to cast voice actors from off-site if I find a better match there. This serves as a means of attracting interest from voice actors. If I do not find what I am looking for here, I will look elsewhere.
Payment will be issued by PayPal only. Payment is not negotiable, and will only be transferred once lines have been recorded and finalised.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AUDITIONEES:
1. Your audio must be clear and free of background noise. Echoes should be minimal. If you are having trouble with static, draft, etc., then utilise a noise reduction tool of some kind. If I dislike the background audio, I will discard your audition.
2. Annunciate every word clearly. I should be able to hear the script verbatim. Do NOT mumble any deliveries.
3. Auditionees must be over the age of 16.
4. Please leave your email, Discord tag, or some other viable form of contact. If you do not, your audition will not be reviewed, and I will dismiss it.
5. Please do not apply any effects to your voice. You’re selling me in your performance, not what you edit about it. I may be open to auditions for the C.O.I Terminal to receive slight editing, but otherwise, I prefer to here regular audio.
Lastly, I'm a university student who also has a job and a personal life. This is a project I am mounting purely for fun. If I decided not to go through with it, that is a choice I make on personal grounds. I am paying out of my own pocket as a casual worker, hence the low pay for Voice Actors. My financial situation is also one that is prone to change, so you may see the payment amount waver a bit, but rest assured, I aim to pay as much as I humanly can to cover the roles. I hope to make this video a reality, and I hope I can share it.
I look forward to hearing what you've got for me. Best of luck to you all.

You will have the most to read of any part. Your voice should sound robotic, matter-of-fact, and devoid of emotion. The colder, the better. Any gender is encouraged to audition.
An English accent is preferred, but the role is open to interpretation.

“The Consolidation of Iron, or C.O.I, is a brotherhood of three space stations and two spacecrafts, found on the principle of collectivism and ruled by the popular vote of all citizens (numbering 257 at the time of this entry). Its name comes from the iron and steel materials its two main stations are constructed from, and the principle of unity and togetherness in the face of menace from other surrounding stations, such as Eden.”
“In 357 EIC, without any prior warning, radio contact with our respective planets was suddenly cut. Nobody can recall having visual contact with any planets when the incident occured, or experiencing any other unusual phenomena, so it’s uncertain what exactly might have happened. Upon investigation, it was observed independently by several stations that where there had previously been planets, nothing remained. Further investigation over the following months revealed that all known planets with sentient life, flora and fauna, a habitable atmosphere, or any sort of natural resources were likewise gone, along with all known stars. The only celestial bodies that have been found since are either uninhabitable moons or asteroids.
Many theories have been proposed for this disaster, including religious interpretations of it as a literal rapture, some unknown quantum anomaly, or something more cosmic and sinister. There are no concrete answers yet.”
You will be a dramatic narrator of the prologue and epilogue text scrolls. Your voice should be dramatic, and have real presence to it, but be very restrained and quiet; you’re telling the melancholic story of the death of a universe, not narrating a YouTube video. Really make sure you don’t overdo it to the point of tonal whiplash. You will be introducing and closing the video.
Above all, please remember that although this is a science fiction story, it is not an adventurous one; it is one of cosmic horror.
Any accent is acceptable. Do what you feel fits best.
Decades ago, every known star and habitable planet vanished, leaving only those who were on space stations and star ships. This event became known as The Quiet Rapture.
With supplies dwindling and infrastructure crumbling, survivors are searching for any trace of natural resources in a universe of barren moons, lit by the ghostlight of vanished stars.
One such moon holds a strange anomaly: an ocean of blood. You are a convict, tasked with exploring this anomaly, in a makeshift submarine nicknamed The Iron Lung. It was not designed for this depth, so you will be welded inside and the forward window will be closed. There was no time for training. If successful, you earn your freedom.
You are a secret ally of the protagonist. You should have a cautious voice. You bare a dire warning to our protagonist about a previous ship's destruction. Make sure they heed it.
Any accent is acceptable. Do what you feel fits best.
If they send you down in the Iron Lung, they don’t give a fuck if you come back, or if the sub comes back, because it’s a pile of garbage and you’re a piece of shit. You come back with photos, great. You sit down there and suffocate quietly, even better. But if they send the SM-8 down, one of the scientists is piloting, and they all expect them to return.
And now, the SM-8 is in the blood ocean in pieces. No, not “hit a rock” pieces, or “sprung a leak” pieces. It looks like something tore it up. And the weirdest thing is that nobody else seems surprised. We might have found the first planetary life since the rapture, and they’re acting like it’s no big deal.
I know you’re next in line for realization in the Iron Lung, and usually that means you won’t be seeing the stars again. But they don’t have an SM-8 anymore. They have 3 burner subs, and a lot of curiosity about AT-5. And maybe that means you have a chance.
You are a command for the C.O.I. You bark orders at the protagonist regarding their mission on Moon AT-5. Voice should be apathetic, straight to the point, powerful, yet subdued. Don't overdo it. I'm after a commanding governmental figure in a broken universe, not a cartoonish seargent from a war movie.

Two weeks ago, we conducted an exploration of Moon At-5 for the first time since The Quiet Rapture, leading to the discovery of a fourth blood ocean. A trench beneath the ocean’s surface has several points of interest.
Your task is to photograph these points of interest with the SM13’s forward camera. Photos must be taken within 2 units of the specified position and 10 degrees of the specified angle. You can also use the camera to help with navigation. Only photos taken at the specified points of interest will be saved.
Since you can’t navigate by sight, pay attention to your coordinates and consult the map. The proximity indicators next to the sub controls will trigger if you’re getting close to an obstacle. Good luck.
You are a convict of the C.O.I, and the previous pilot of the SM-13 vessel. You have given up all hope, and have accepted your fate beneath the blood ocean of Moon AT-5. Voice should be slightly raspy, tired, and devoid of any hope. But you've resolved to deliver one last final "fuck you" to the C.O.I, and you will die on your terms, rather than theirs.
Any accent is acceptable. Do what you feel fits best.
This is not an expedition. It is an execution. When they put you in here, they don’t want you to return. And even if you do, and even if they keep their promises… what freedom waits for you? A few dying ships in a sea of dead stars?
If there is still hope, it lies beyond the veil. Hope in this void is as illusionary as the starlight. I will choose to breathe my last here at the bottom of an ocean, unseen, unheard, and uncontrolled.
They will get their execution. I will get my freedom.
