FFXIV Dawntrail (7.0); Gulool Ja Ja Vs Zoraal Ja Fandub [MSQ SPOILERS]

Project Overview

I didn't like how the Eng Dub turned out in the new expansion; Dawntrail, so I decided to have a re-dub of one of the MSQ story line chain. This one includes cutscenes from "And the Land Would Tremble" MSQ storyline and first cutscene from "No Time for Tears". If you haven't played the MSQ Storyline of Dawntrail yet, just know that this is a major SPOILER part of the storyline. Don't participate if you haven't done the MSQ yet or if you don't care either way, that's cool too. I do have few rules as always;

1.) NO JOKE AUDITIONS ALLOWED! If you decide to do one, that's an automatic reject!

2.) No lifeless/monotonic auditions allowed (well except Zoraal Ja is pretty monotone anyway so there's an exception!

3.) Please use a good quality microphone that is free of background noises and if possible use a pop filter and avoid peaking.

4.) This goes without saying but remember; this is a FANDUB. You NEED to have emotion behind your lines! If you're unsure what kind of emotion to portray, just watch the embedded video, and if possible, I would like the characters sound as close as possible for the original JAP dub including the emotions!

Erenville (minor role)

Erenville is curt, but he is not mean-spirited - he is polite to most people, but is not hesitant to speak out against the overworking of his fellow gleaners by the Sharlayan Forum, and he is very straightforward with those whom try to beat around their point, such as when the Scions attempt to keep vague of why they are in Labyrinthos. He is very passionate about nature and its bounty, and knows many things about the subtle differences between each animal and different plants, such as when he immediately notices that the 'toads' standing near him are actually humans in a glamour disguise. In Dawntrail, he travels with the MC's party, searching for his Mother and Mentor.

  • Railroads are a somewhat recent addition to Tural. As it stands, we can only ferry folks as far as Yyasulani. And from an operational standpoint, we still have much to learn. There's always some problem or another to deal with. But we'll keep working at it. We'll hone our craft and continue expanding till, one day, our trains are running coast-to-coast. That's the ultimate dream.

Wuk Lamat/Lamaty'i

When first introduced, Wuk Lamat is loud, jovial, and expressive with a tendency toward wanderlust when first visiting Old Sharlayan and the Isle of Haam. She is humble and informal despite being a princess to the Dawnservant of Tural, as Wuk Lamat dislikes the formal use of titles and such when first meeting with the Leveilleur Twins. Erenville is often the one who criticizes Wuk Lamat's "boorish" tendencies, especially her table manners and cursing during battles, and wishes she would consider her station. This suggests the two have known each other for some time, with Wuk Lamat stating they were as "thick as thieves" during their youth, though Erenville states they are merely acquaintances.

While Wuk Lamat projects a front of boisterous strength and fearlessness to the Warrior while hunting with them on the Isle of Haam, she is petrified with fear after encountering a giant colibri for the first time, especially being startled when the giant bird spoke. G'raha also noticed her hand trembling after Krile finished the beast off, implying that Wuk Lamat fears appearing weak in front of others. This confident front also led Wuk Lamat to make some more questionable decisions leading her to get in over her head, such as trying the spicy curry that Zero made popular: a decision she would come to regret but refused to openly state so and instead scarfing down more meat to wash out the taste of the spice. She attempts to do the same when Wuk Lamat becomes seasick as the group travels to Tural, but none of her companions believe her claims that she is fine.

Wuk Lamat is loyal and proud of her homeland, especially with her adopted father, the Dawnservant, Gulool Ja Ja, who raised her as if she were one of his own. Wuk Lamat wishes to honor her father's legacy by continuing the plentiful peace he had forged by winning the rite of succession contest but also to prevent another contestant, her elder brother Zoraal Ja, from claiming the throne who has ambitions of conquest. Angered that Zoraal Ja would ruin everything her father had built just to drag their nation back into war after Tural already suffered so many years of inner turmoil, Wuk Lamat refuses to allow that to happen. Wuk Lamat is not taking chances to prevent war from happening, hence why she seeks out the Warrior of Light's assistance in the rite. Wuk Lamat may enjoy a good fight and a bountiful hunt but war is out of the question for her. This puts her in contrast to her rivals in the contest, who see the position as Dawnservant as a means to an end to accomplish their goals and visions for their homeland. Wuk Lamat does not wish to enforce any beliefs or vision onto the people, only to continue the peace and happiness her father spent decades forging.

Beneath her boisterous and jovial front, Wuk Lamat possesses some insecurities regarding her bid for the throne as Dawnservant. Compared to her siblings, Koana and Zoraal Ja, Wuk Lamat has little to her name to back up her bid. She lacks Zoraal Ja's natural fighting prowess and Koana's academic talents, which led to many innovations being introduced to Tural. As a result, many within her homeland initially have little faith in her chances to win the rite of succession. Though Wuk Lamat is quick to turn the other cheek when hearing these opinions, it is clear that Wuk Lamat feels inferior compared to her more successful brothers. As Namikka, her nursemaid, would state, Wuk Lamat possesses a strength that her brothers do not, which would later be revealed to be her endless compassion and love for her people, her interest in the various cultures of Tural, and of her desire to keep the peace her father had created. This makes her much easier for the Turalli people to approach and connect with, ultimately making her more popular with the general populace.

Alphinaud Leveilleur (Very Minor Role)
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

Alphinaud is a self-assured young man, calm and mature for his age. He shows more interest in intervening in Eorzean events than his sister, who prefers to watch history unfold from the shadow. Charismatic and diplomatic, he finds it easy to gain the Eorzean Alliance leaders' trust, partly thanks to his grandfather's credit. Alphinaud has a big ego, and often clashes with other nations' leaders about their ideals. Alphinaud listens and partakes in gossip. Alphinaud is arguably the most politically savvy Scion, or at the very least the most interested in engaging in politics. His skill at political negotiations have been useful in advancing the Scions' agenda.

Initially Alphinaud participates in Eorzea's affairs with his own agenda: to discover what happened to his grandfather and finish what he started to test his potential and prove himself. As he spends more time with the Scions, he comes understand why his grandfather sacrificed so much for the realm, and resolves to follow in his footsteps. Compared to his sister, Alphinaud is more level-headed and can quickly get over the shock of unexpected events and reformulate his strategies. He is more selective in his diplomatic battles, recognizing that after his father disowned him and Alisaie, any further engagement would worsen the situation.

Alphinaud is not invulnerable to negative feelings, as he regrets his mistakes and overconfidence. He gets flustered whenever Krile or Alisaie threaten to regale embarrassing details from his earlier days in the Studium in front of the Warrior of Light. Alphinaud is annoyed and embarrassed for being mistaken for his sister, or a girl in general. Despite his differences with his sister, Alphinaud deeply cares about his twin and dreads losing her. He does not carry the loss or permanent injury of his comrades well, and his colleagues often have to help lift his spirits in such situations.

In Heavensward, Alphinaud comes to terms with the Crystal Braves' betrayal and of his own naivete and haughtiness, maturing during his time in Ishgard. Upon reestablishing the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, his leadership qualities come to light as its remaining members name him the guild's de facto leader, which he humbly accepts.

Though good-natured and welcoming, Alphinaud can hold a grudge if someone betrays his trust for selfish desires or harms his friends. He matures into a capable leader and crafts the plan to liberate Doma from Garlean rule, and offers to go to Garlemald as a diplomat following the successful prisoner exchange. Despite his maturity, Alphinaud has moments of being impudent as he cannot control his laughter at Gosetsu Daito being tended to by an amnesiac Yotsuyu, or with Alisaie's lackluster clay art piece. Possibly due to being raised in an affluent household, Alphinaud lacks a good sense for money and is naive in market dealings; for example, he offers to buy a Samurai sword, using the Scions' money, without checking the listed price and not knowing how expensive it truly was until some time after the purchase. However, he quickly learns from his mistake, and makes sure Ala Mhigo's Saltery reconstruction is funded as much as possible by the Ala Mhigans, wanting to reduce, if not eliminate, Lolorito's influence over the project by reducing the financial stake the Monetarist has in the project.

Alisaie Leveilleur (Very Minor Role)
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

Alisaie is strong-willed, cynical and, at times, emotional. She is compassionate, concerned for a traumatized Koboldling that lost his parents, and leaving a bouquet of flowers in memory of her grandfather, Nael van Darnus, and Bahamut's children.

By her own admission, Alphinaud was always the more clever of the two while she is more direct. This distinction is most pronounced when she summons an aetherial blade to attack the Warriors of Darkness, rather than summoning a carbuncle like her brother. Unlike her brother, Alisaie had little interest in the affairs of the city-state's politics, tiring of their petty power struggles. She strikes out on her own while her brother joins the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, but upon reuniting she becomes more involved, especially with the missions against the Warriors of Darkness and to liberate Doma and Ala Mhigo.

Though Alisaie loathes politics, she has proven to be quite persuasive when negotiating, or at least when striking a deal. She has a humorous side, often teasing Alphinaud (in a similar vein to Krile) and making cynical comments. Although this seems like petty sibling rivalry, it shows that she knows and understands Alphinaud unlike anyone else. Alisaie resents being compared to her brother or being mistaken for a boy. She deeply cares for him as he does for her, and when Alphinaud goes missing during a diplomatic mission to Garlemald, Alisaie constantly worries for his whereabouts, even stating that should he die on her, she will never let him hear the end of it. From the latter parts of Stormblood through Shadowbringers, Alisaie becomes irritated by those around her and even defensive, angrily grabbing Alphinaud by his collar after jokes about seeing a bratty pixie as reminding him of his childhood, to sounding outright snappy when her idolism of the Warrior of Light is brought up in embarrassing context.

During her time in The First, Alisaie befriends Tesleen and Halric, two of the many light-corrupted patients at the Inn at Journey's Head who seek to live out their final days before becoming sin eaters in peace. It is implied that Alisaie's attachment to them and the other patients stems in part from her inability to help Ga Bu back in Eorzea. After witnessing Tesleen's transformation, Alisaie's determination to undo the Flood and aid the Warrior of Darkness in their struggle grows. If brought into Holminster Switch as part of a Trust, she will express sorrow at having to fight the corrupted Tesleen, wishing her peace after the battle.

Alisaie is the more pragmatic and direct of the two, most often concerned with the possible ramifications of a mission. Like Alphinaud, Alisaie greatly respects the Warrior of Light, and is especially grateful for their support during trying moments. She views the Scions' core members as close friends and cares greatly for their well-being.

Krile is kind and intelligent, and highly knowledgeable in a number of fields. She can read people and enjoys teasing others. She brings up Alphinaud's past to embarrass him, notes Thancred Waters's affection for Minfilia, tricks Unukalhai into dropping his stoic facade, and likens Y'shtola Rhul to her master, Matoya, which annoys the usually calm Miqo'te. Nonetheless, Krile cares for her friends deeply, working tirelessly to aid them. She is quick to apologize to Thancred and Unukalhai for her probing when they take offense, explaining she only does this to get a better sense of her companions' personalities and motivations, so that it is easier to trust them.

Krile was Alphinaud's mentor in the Sharlayan Academy, and though she teases him, she does think fondly of him and approves of how he has matured, knowing he would come rescue her if she were in danger. She has a great deal of patience and a level head, but on rare occasions can lose her cool and even the Warrior of Light is not beyond her scolding.

Krile holds misgivings towards the nation of Sharlayan and its policy of non-intervention, finding the Forum's refusal to aid the Eorzean nations during the Umbral Calamity and its mass exodus following the Empire's conquest to be their most shameful acts. In contrast, she holds her grandfather Galuf in the highest esteem, safeguarding his legacy being her primary concern. She was incensed when a Forum member denounced her for her association with the Scions and claimed that Galuf would be ashamed of her; Krile argued her grandfather had wished to protect the world and his fellow man.

Krile regrets not being as apt in combat as her fellow Scions, but to compensate focuses on her own talents and how she can use them to aid her friends. After watching the rest of the Scions confront world-ending dangers, she doubles her resolve to better herself and walk her path. This motivated her to take up the art of the pictomancer, as much like G'raha Tia, she admits she does not want to be "left behind" again.

Bakool Ja Ja the Mighty/the Mystic
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

His right head, Bakool Ja Ja the Mighty, is the dominant half while the left head, Bakool the Mystic, is subservient to his brother. As a whole, Bakool Ja Ja views himself in high regard as per his kind's tradition that twin-headed Mamool Ja are "blessed siblings". Using his status as a two-headed Mamool Ja to elevate himself above others at every opportunity, he spurns any other faction or race, including his own kin, showing distaste for one-headed Mamool Ja. Bakool Ja Ja is arrogant and overconfident when facing his opponents, leading more skilled, level-headed, and experienced foes to easily defeat him, wounding his pride. He also shows some prejudice towards other races, having been constantly told that as blessed siblings, they were superior to everyone around him. This prejudice stems from his father, Zereel Ja, who aspires to see the Mamool Ja be the dominant race in Tural. Despite his arrogance, Bakool Ja Ja has enough perception to notice and acknowledge the threat of some of his opponents, such as the Warrior of Light, believing them to be more of a problem to his efforts than Wuk Lamat herself.

Relying on his brute strength and cheap tactics, he puts little thought into tasks for the keystones in the competition for the Rite of Succession, continuing with the knowledge that he could take the keystones from the other claimants by force. This makes him heavily disliked and viewed with contempt by the other claimants. Wuk Lamat observed that Bakool Ja Ja had enough skill to win the competition had he been more confident in his own skills rather than resorting to dirty tactics.

His obsession to claim the throne by any means necessary results in him breaking down when his tactics fail, as shown when he is thwarted by Wuk Lamat, which prompts him to run away in panic. This obsession stems from his circumstances as a two-headed Mamool Ja, with mounting pressure placed on him by the people of his home and their struggles. Bakool Ja Ja's efforts in the contest were merely a means for Bakool to prove his worth and validate his "blessed" status.

He is aware and remorseful towards the tragic nature of two-headed Mamool Ja, although the apparent dire circumstances of his home prevent him from seeing any other recourse. Bakool Ja Ja displays a strong level of survivor's guilt, not wanting to fail not only to help his people, but also ensure that his siblings' deaths were not in vain. When Wuk Lamat and her party confronts Bakool Ja Ja's truth, Bakool Ja Ja shows he is genuinely remorseful while also fully aware that it would be near impossible for anyone to forgive his actions. When Mamook is shown that they can still prosper in their environment, their opinions towards "blessed siblings" changes significantly, resulting in Bakool Ja Ja being more receptive to peace and understanding with his burden being lifted.

Koana (Minor Role)
closed
Unpaid
cast offsite

At first, Koana appears dignified, stoic and academic but holds a strong drive to help his homeland of Tural through the innovations he had learned during his time studying in Sharlayan. However, his tendency to be aloof with everyone makes him appear detached and overly serious. Even with those who praise his accomplishments, Koana is stated to be practical to a fault, rarely even partaking in the celebration of his own successes. On the downside, this leaves Koana with very few friends but its shown that he does care for his adoptive siblings and father greatly.

His motivation to become the next Dawnservant is mainly to improve the livelihood of his homeland but while a noble goal, it often goes against many of the traditions the Turalli have developed. In fact, Koana possess an aversion to tradition in general, believing that they impede progress. While his innovations earned him the support of various businesses and youths, the elders are put off by his disregard for tradition. In truth, Koana's aversion to tradition is rooted in his past, being part of a nomadic tribe that constantly migrated but was left behind to die as his tribe moved on, leaving Koana abandoned, using tradition as justification. Its because of this, Koana despises traditions being followed simplely for the sake of them.

Koana may have the best of intentions in using his innovations to better the lives of his people but his disregard for his people's ways, comes off as dis-spiriting, caring more about his goals rather than his people's cultural identity. During the Feat of Repast, Wuk Evu's praise for Wuk Lamat's interest in her people's cultures and sheer love for her people strikes a chord with Koana, who can't deny that Wuk Lamat's compassion for the people of Tural is without equal. Learning that his adoptive father was responsible for many of the traditions Koana despised as outdated and unnecessary forces Koana to reflect on their value even if foreign innovations appear more efficient solutions to Tural's problems. It is this realization that causes Koana to understand that he is unworthy of being Dawnservant, forfeiting his chance for the throne to help Wuk Lamat's bid, believing her to be the best candidate over Zoraal's Ja's warmongering and Bakool Ja Ja's vanity.

Zoraal Ja

At first, Zoraal Ja appears stoic, reserved, taciturn and focused on protecting his homeland. Though Zoraal Ja is praised for his talents and leadership, creating a sense of loyalty by those who serve under him, he keeps everyone at arm's length, family included. When meeting with Wuk Lamat before the trials, he barely acknowledged her, saddening Wuk Lamat that her elder brother treats her like a stranger. Even in their youth, Zoraal Ja would never share any of his inner and personal thoughts with his adoptive siblings. Nonetheless, many of the people in Tural do not doubt that Zoraal Ja loves his homeland and people greatly.

In truth, Zoraal Ja is ruthlessly ambitious in ensuring he becomes the next Dawnservant and in enforcing his vision of peace, whatever the cost. He seeks to bring all of the world under his control through war to show the people the folly of war, so that they would grow tired of it and long for everlasting peace. Most of all, Zoraal Ja desires to surpass his father no matter what. Zoraal Ja's ambition is motivated to justify all the expectations that had been placed upon him all his life, from his family to the people. This led him to become obsessed with becoming the next Dawnservant while forgoing anything that Zoraal Ja considered distracting, such as friendship, ultimately leaving him isolated and cold. His talents and the praise he received gave Zoraal Ja a swollen ego and a strong sense of pride, seeing others as tools for his ambitions because of how quickly they threw themselves at his feet and viewing challenges with cold disdain. This becomes a factor in his downfall as he never expected the Warrior of Light and Wuk Lamat to rally Turalli people to fight his superior forces and lead them to victory, being inspired to weather any hardship. In this, Zoraal Ja showed how little he knew about the inner strength of his own people and that he doesn't truly care about becoming Dawnservant for their sake, only wanting to claim the throne for himself, believing it to be his destiny.

His fixation on cultivating strength to prove himself the miracle he was said to be gives him overwhelming ambition and an unwillingness to see eye to eye with others. Tragically, this makes him the worst candidate to become Dawnservant and the only one the Warrior of Light was told to prevent a chance at the throne, as even the vainglorious Bakool Ja Ja is more capable of compromise and admitting to error. His collaborator, Sphene, slowly grows to despise Zoraal Ja due to his obsession on growing his own strength at the cost of everything else, which led to Zoraal Ja neglecting her people of Alexandria. Further, its been noted that Zoraal Ja bears a crippling lack of forethought in his plans for conquest. Instead of realizing the logistics and understanding his own limits, Zoraal Ja fully believes his own strength and the might of his forces would be enough to conquer Tural and the rest of the world. Wuk Lamat points out the obvious flaws in his plans as Tural doesn't possess ships to enact his conquest, due to Tural having no deep water ports and being surrounded by reefs, nor does he have any actual strategies to ensure his conquest succeeds.

The others acknowledge in hindsight that Zoraal Ja's prestigious position and talents created the enormous pressure on him to succeed and be worthy of his illustrious father's name. Being Gulool Ja Ja's blood heir and the First Promise only intensified this pressure, as did the envy of his siblings for his many talents. Wuk Lamat and Koana wonder if Zoraal Ja could have been dissuaded from his bloody path had they realized what he had been experiencing and helped share his burden, but it is unknown if Zoraal Ja was ever willing to reveal such insecurities to them.

Being disqualified as a claimant sends him over the edge as he again tries to prove himself the only one worthy of the throne, leading him to enact decisions that enter into being immoral and treacherous. His worst acts to become Dawnservant include invading his homeland, murdering his father, attempting to usurp Wuk Lamat and, when he becomes cornered, using his own son, Gulool Ja, as a shield to ensure his own escape, coldly discarding him once he has served his purpose. These acts quickly turn Zoraal Ja from being the respected and admired First Promise to being a hated patricidal traitor in the eyes of Turalli. Wuk Lamat and the others finally accept that Zoraal Ja was beyond saving as his refusal to abandon his cause would mean that all of his efforts would be for nothing and that he had failed to meet the expectations placed upon him, leading the heroes to defeat Zoraal Ja before he could bring any more conflict to Tural.

When brought low by the Warrior and Wuk Lamat, Zoraal Ja shows no regret over his actions, only lamenting in failing to meet the expectations placed upon him. When confronted by his son in his final moments, Zoraal Ja does not presume to call him his own, only admitting that he could not be a father to him after feeling spurned by his own. In Zoraal Ja's mind, his father left him with nothing, no legacy to follow. Wuk Lamat admonishes Zoraal Ja, stating his father left him a family but Zoraal Ja still didn't seem swayed.

Ketenramm the Blue was a sailor who sought to prove once and for all that the landmass referred to only as The New World truly existed, and was more than an old wives' tale. As the records of The New World were lost or destroyed, all he had to go on was a general direction in which to sail.

Ketenramm and his crew sailed for over two moons to the west, nearly running out of supplies before finally making land. Following its rediscovery, Ketenramm attempted to name the land Ketenland, but was unsuccessful.

In the following moons, the team set up camp and spent a lot of time exploring the land, eventually coming across the nation of Mamook and the people of the Mamool Ja. They were brought before the nation's ruler, the "Supreme Leader". They presented him with many gifts, which impressed him so much that he returned the favor, endowing them with several gifts from his homeland, not the least of which a massive silver statue. They were also given the freedom to completely explore the land as they saw fit and take with them what they liked.

After several moons, the ship finally departed, it was laden with flora and fauna as well as several trinkets and treasures to prove the land had not only been found, but was populated and somewhat civilized. This sparked the development of trade routes to the New World.

  • [disappointed, to Zoraal Ja] What has changed you so much, and in so short a time? [getting angry] To harm the very people you swore to serve...! This is an unforgivable deed ─ committed by my son! MY SON!! And you will have my answer... By my hands, I will end your madness!

  • [under his dying breaths, keep this up during the whole cutscene] Enough... I am beyond saving...

  • [under his dying breath] Our flesh may wither and die. But so long as we are remembered, we are never truly gone. Through you, my hopes survive... Through you, I live on... So do not mourn me. Walk tall...and see our nation to a brighter future.

My FFXIV Character called Akiko Asagami (formerly known as Miku Maegaki), A.K.A Warrior of Light/Warrior of Darkness, the Hero and many more. As the MC's don't usually talk/mostly are silent protagonists in game, this fandub she has only one spoken line and even that is shown normally as "silent talk". But feel free to do the random grunts ect as well.
