A Chrono Trigger Fandub: Project Time Egg!

Project Overview

We love Chrono Trigger, and we've always wondered what a voiced version of the game might sound like! Project Time Egg is a non-profit fandub of Chrono Trigger that is entirely for fun and entertainment purposes. We are currently taking auditions for nearly every role in the game!

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: This fandub will be using the updated DS script for the game as it is closer to the original Japanese translation. We will also be adapting the decisions of resurrecting Crono, recruiting Magus, and defeating Lavos via the Black Omen as we feel it offers the most complete package.

The goal of this fandub is to produce a voiced version of Chrono Trigger that is as faithful to the spirit of the game as possible. We plan to edit footage of the game in a way that improves the pacing of dialogue and focuses mainly on the important plot beats. The final result will be an abridged version of the game which we hope will encompass the entirety of the game's main story. Additional, albeit very short, original lines will also be written for combat and transitional scenes.

This project is currently NOT PAID. We believe in being very transparent about that. Deadlines will be lenient and all work will be done remotely. Communication will be done through our Discord channel. Upon releasing a new script, we'll communicate with you to make sure you fully understand your lines. But don't stress it. This is a casual, fun project for fans of Chrono Trigger who want to show the greatest game of all time some love!

At the moment, there is no hard schedule for release dates, but the series will be divided into individual episodes on Youtube, and published on a finish-by-finish basis. We aren't just voicing the game, we are editing too! After voice roles are chosen, we'll direct you over to our Discord channel where we will post the scripts for each episode and help work with you to make submissions as easy as possible!

Please make sure your submissions are of decent quality, with no background noise, heavy plosives, or tinny pitch. In terms of accents, go ahead and try whatever you feel would fit best! We've included some suggestions as well.

  • Near the end!

    Hi everyone! I am happy to say that we are deep into the casting process! We've narrowed 420 submissions down to only 90 at this time! You may have noticed possible dismissals for your auditions as well as some roles already being casted. While these are accurte, I do want to stress two things

    1. Many of these dismissals are from our shortlist, which means you were heavily considered for the role!

    2. Rest assured, we've taken down TONS of names for bonus roles, so don't fret if you haven't been selected. Chrono Trigger has a loooot of extra bonus roles and we plan to include as many of you as we can to some extent!

Crono is the main protagonist of our game, and like many RPGs of the past, he is a mute. However, in order to maintain a nice flow to the game's script, we'll be adding several grunts, breaths, and other noises from Crono, especially in combat. He also responds to prompts often in the game with dialogue. These brief responses may also be voiced. This is a more simple role, which only requires a few sounds, and short responses.

No one has the smarts quite like Lucca! This nerdy, confident scientist is the best friend of Crono, and creates the device that kicks off Chrono Trigger's entire plot. While Lucca projects an air of confidence about her, she is clearly insecure about certain things. A dark past haunts her, and her inability to mingle well with other humans casts doubt on her actions. Machines mean a great deal to her. To her, robots are just as human, if not moreso, than humans themselves. 


Lucca's voice would likely have a degree of maturity to it, with a nerdy stereotype such as a nasally voice or somewhat know-it-all demeanor.

A royal knight in the Guardia army, Glenn was once a human, and best friend to the legendary Sir Cyrus. A tragic backstory resulted in his transformation into a frog, and Glenn seeks every day to amend his past mistakes and achieve redemption. But is he still worthy? Does he deserve to call himself a knight? Frog must overcome his grief and inner turmoil in order to put a stop to a great threat, and ultimately, make his deceased friend proud. 


We are open to various interpretations for Frog's voice! Some believe he'd have a commanding and deeper voice given all he has been through, while others see Glenn's petite stature when he was a human giving him a younger tone.

In the distant and desolate future, a lone robot awaits rebooting. Robo is dependable, polite, strong and will fulfill his programming no matter the cost. He becomes especially close with Lucca, as he further proves to her that machines can have a heart, in a sense. Robo is pure in every sense of the word. There is no one more reliable. 


For Robo's voice, we are looking for something that sounds mechanical and processed, but not to a point that it becomes grating for listeners. Try to achieve a balance between robotic and somewhat human!

In prehistoric times, there existed a tribe dedicated to survival and victory over the malevolent dinosaur race. Ayla is the strong, fiery, and fearless leader of that tribe. She does not let anyone stop her from her goals. Ayla will tell you exactly what she wants, and she may have to be a bit mean about it. But beyond that, she has a huge heart, and is much smarter than one might think for a primitive human. Much of the journey of Chrono Trigger is simply a fun ride for her. She doesn't have to understand exactly what is going on.

Magus serves as Chrono Trigger's primary antagonist for a decent length of the game! He is stoic, fierce, and vicious, but ultimately, macabre. Think Dracula, and you've got the right idea! Although Magus may appear to be pure evil, deep down there is a profound sadness and sense of grief linked to his tragic past. He is one of Chrono Trigger's deepest characters. 


We see his voice as having that Liam O' Brien Illidan Stormrage vibe, or perhaps even a deeper Richard Epcar tone.

He serves as an assistant to the evil Queen Zeal, one of the game's primary antagonists. Dalton appears as a thorn in the party's side at several moments and is rarely taken seriously. But that won't stop him from trying!
