Baten Kaitos - Recast [2F] - 1 Main, 1 Supporting-Antagonist - [CLOSED]

Project Overview

Hi there! I'm Chara, and I'm the director of an on-going fandub of the Gamecube JRPG title, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. 

We currently have two openings for 2 female characters, Xelha, a lead character, and Melodia, a supporting character - later turned primary antagonist.

Lead characters require a moderate amount of commitment, as they appear in almost every single episode, so please be aware of that before auditioning. 

Deadlines will be given to keep things moving, but recording for the project is overall quite relaxed. Scripts are given piece by piece as needed instead of all at once, to avoid overwhelm and account for the time it takes to edit episodes. I am reasonable when it comes to deadlines, and can give extensions as necessary and work around your schedule, but please keep in contact with me and do not be difficult to reach. 

Main actors have completed recording for Episodes 1-3, and the current task is to record Episodes 4 and 5, and eventually onward. Lines are typically due in a month, depending on the length of the episode.

  • Please provide at least 2-3 takes

  • Acting ability (No whisper-shouting, please!)

  • Dedication - If you are cast (especially if you are a recurring character who appears multiple times) please try to be dedicated and plan to stay with the project.

  • Please have clean, reasonably decent audio quality (keep your auditions as free of background, equipment noise, reverb, and plosives as you can)

  • Have fun! I'm not looking for an imitation of the official voices. You are not required to match the previous actors either, so feel free to give your personal interpretation of the character. Have at it!

What Comes Next?


  • Having a discord is highly preferable for ease of communication, directing, and giving updates on the project. 

  • If you prefer not to use discord, scripts and updates will primarily be given over email or the CCC chatroom. 

  • I am very passionate about this project and want to see these episodes through, but please know that editing episodes take time. 

  • I do my best to release episode parts in a timely manner, but it is not unusual for me to release episodes every few months or so, depending on my schedule. If you can handle that, I am thankful for your patience and look forward to working with you!

Major Role. Appears in Episodes 4, 5, and onward.

Kindhearted, brave, and on a dangerous mission to stop the Emperor from bringing about the end of the world. Xelha is extremely driven and determined, but she is not above putting aside her goals to help the people in front of her. Her innocent face and gentle demeanor easily inspire trust within others and puts them at ease. Despite her looks, she is a skilled magic-user, and seems determined to enlist the help of Kalas despite his complete disinterest in joining her cause. 

Xelha is young, but has an unmistakable mark of maturity. There is more to her than meets the eye.

IMPORTANT NOTES: I described Xelha as courageous in the description, but she is not so in a (usually) imposing or solemn sort of way. She is gentle, encouraging, and seems to be by most appearances, a very ordinary girl. This makes it all the more shocking when she is revealed to be a Queen, a secret she kept hidden extraordinarily well.

  • (solemnly, challenging Kalas) Are you just going to leave the people of Diadem in the Empire’s clutches? How could you live with yourself? (Kalas wants to back out of their plans to save Diadem. They had been traveling together a while and she's clearly disappointed in him)

    (playful, pleased) I asked an old witch to cast an intricate illusion spell on it. You wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. I’ll bet Geldoblame and Giacomo are furious by now. (She still has her amulet, and is proud she managed to outwit their enemies)

  • (gently) Lyude, I was thinking… Why don’t you come with us? (Lyude is visibly hesitant, so she continues encouragingly, reassuring him)

    Remember, we’re not trying to start a war with the Empire.  It’s about stopping Geldoblame and his malicious plans. Please… we could really use your help!

    (pensively, alone to herself) Yes ... for now, I can be Xelha... Just Xelha. When I'm here... I can forget about what I am... The burden I carry as the Ice Queen...

    (losing her composure, exasperated, to Kalas) What was I supposed to say to you?! 'The long lost ocean is inside me? Why don't you come with me and we'll find ourselves an exciting adventure?' (Xelha has dropped an earth-shattering announcement on Kalas, causing him to demand why she didn't tell him sooner)

  • (Battle Sounds. Please provide your best 2 takes.)

    [Battle Finisher, Magic Incantation]: "Watch out! I'm not that innocent! Magic: Soul Flash!" / "Mighty fire, be guided by my will! Magic: Dancing Flames!"

    [Attacking/Using Item]: "Hah!" "Take this!"

    [Casting Magic]: "Chronos Blow!" "Fire Burst!" "Dark Flare!"

    [Blocking]: (tauntingly) "Is that all?"

AGE 16

CHARACTERISTICS: Charming, gentle, graceful, ladylike, but also two-faced, manipulative, vengeful, dark

Recurring character. Appears in Episode 5, and sporadically throughout, up until the big reveal, where she plays a more active role. 

Lady Melodia is the well-respected granddaughter of Duke Calbren, and dearly loved by her people. She carries herself gracefully and appears very sensitive and pure of heart. She has an affinity for spirits, shown when she successfully coaxes an otherworldly creature to leave the human realm in peace. It is unknown if her shows of compassion are an act, but it is later revealed, mid-way through the game, that Melodia is under the influence of Malpercio, the evil god of legend himself. 

She is the source of the mysterious, ominous voice that appears on-screen every time the main cast breaks a seal.
Behind her sweet, gentle, and ladylike exterior is a skillful manipulator with a honeyed tongue. She succeeds at charming the tyrannical Emperor Geldoblame, and controls him undetected behind the scenes, tricking him into resurrecting Malpercio.

IMPORTANT NOTES: This character has ulterior motives. She has two sides. One is gentle and lady-like, and the other is hidden, venomous, and manipulative. I would like for you to demonstrate both. Melodia is listed as a teenager, but I would not be opposed to her having a mature, slightly older voice, to reflect her upbringing, origins, and Malpercio's influence.

  • (pleasantly, effortlessly putting a stop to an argument) Both of you, please stop fighting. I couldn’t possibly choose between the pastries you make. Both of you are so talented.

    (excited, politely, after being promised sweets) How wonderful. I can hardly wait. Have a nice day, both of you.

  • (yelling, distressed, trying to stop a fight) No! You can't fight here! 

    [The ground starts to rumble.]

    (worriedly) The Tree spirits! Your hatred is stirring them up! The boundary between dimensions is breaking apart...!

    (beseeching, then soothing the creature) You must stop this! It's all right now... Just calm down. (reassuringly) Everything will be all right. Go back home now, okay? This is no place for you to be... Not yet... 

  • (mysterious, ominous, unseen to all, as if in a trance) The gate to Le has been opened. You worthless mortals. No matter what you may do… No matter what you may try… there is no avoiding that which must come to pass.

    (vengeful, with dark delight) I will find you all… None will escape! I am the blade of divine revenge! (giggling) Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!

    (sweetly, before having him executed) That's not a very nice thing to say, my dear Emperor...you have only yourself to blame for assuming too much. Thank you... and farewell, Your Magnificence. (Emperor Geldoblame is appalled at Melodia's true colors and has claimed she betrayed him)
