Hey everyone! Our Kickstarter has launched and you can check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1972967278/when-the-shutter-stops-a-visual-novel-for-meddleso# It's been a pretty wild ride in casting. We're still working our way through all of the auditions, but we've gotten to the point now where we need to cut off new submissions and give them review. We're aiming to give at least some feedback to everyone who has submitted, so if you haven't received a message or comment from us yet, let us know! Thanks! Nai

Casting and Next Steps
Hey everyone! We're adding one more role (mature female) to the mix and pushing back the deadline on the other roles by 2 weeks. While it will be unlikely that we will be able to cast and record the demo in time for our launch on Kickstarter on the 22nd, this should give us time to work through most of the promotional material and get started on the partial voice acting phase of the project. We're going to be catching up and leaving feedback as we go along, so if you haven't had your audition listened to yet or haven't received a comment yet, we'll be getting through to it shortly. We've made have a casting decision for the Young Priscilla Vate which we will be announcing with our trailer launch. -
Re-Opening of Casting Call and Other Notes
Hey everyone! If you hadn't already heard or noticed by now, this project has been re-opened with new roles added. I won't bore you with a long explanation, but here's what's up: 1. The original auditions are in tact. I ask anyone who was interested in the original roles posted in 2017 to chime in if they're still interested. This applies to the two Protagonist roles(Pri, young and adult) only. All of the other roles posted prior to this batch are closed for now. 2. This audition is part searching for promotional material production, part searching for talent for the final project. 3. We had a major medical emergency shortly after the end of the first casting attempt in our team that nearly shut us down for good. If you're wondering why the long silence, that's why. I've spoken about it on Twitter and if you want to know more, you can check the full disclosure here: https://twitter.com/RemortStudios/status/949722061211160576 4. We will probably make a decision on both Young and Adult Priscilla's casting before the current posted deadline. We've had a pretty significant volume of very qualified applicants from before and now. If you still would like consideration, I would urge you to do so sooner rather than later. Decisions on casting for all of the other roles will not happen until after the deadline, though I will respond and provide feedback on auditions throughout the period in case you'd like to make additional takes and attempts. Anyway, that's it for now. Thanks for all of your patience, support, kind words, and hard work! -
Second Round of Considerations have started.
Hey everyone! First off, we'd like to thank everyone who has participated in our casting call. This update is to announce that we have made our first selections and we are now moving into the next phase of our casting call. If you did not receive a PM, DM, or E-mail stating that you were being considered for a role with next-step instructions, you are currently not being considered for any of the roles in this casting call. HOWEVER, many of you are supremely talented and the turnout combined with the sheer amount of quality talent here has really convinced us to come back when we move to full production of our product. We will be keeping your auditions handy and we will be inviting folks to our next casting call which will have more of the main characters, supporting cast and extras. Ideally, we would love to have the entire visual novel voiced, and I think both CCC and your talent can really help us make that happen. Seriously, thank you. If you'd like to stay in touch with our team or keep up to date with our progress, feel free to follow us on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/RemortStudios If you have received the next-step instructions, and have followed them, but have not received a response from us yet, feel free to poke us for an update. Even though we have sorted through the 250 preliminary auditions, we still have a good number of secondary considerations to go through. Anyway, thanks again and we'll be back soon! -
Auditions are now Closed!
Hello again everyone! Auditions are officially closed while we get a chance to listen in to everyone who has submitted their talent thus far. We've already started reviewing them and we'll be following up with top candidates for each role. Here's how this is going to work: First, we're going to take some time to review everything and mark down our top candidates for the roles, as well as strong candidates for other roles. These individuals will receive a private message on CCC or e-mail if an e-mail was supplied requesting more information. Second, after we've had a chance to review everything, we'll post an update saying that we've reached out to everyone who is being considered for placement. If at that point you haven't been contacted by us for more information, you aren't currently being considered for placement and we thank you for your time. Third, we will work through our top candidates for the roles to figure out who we'll be casting for each of them. There's a lot of fantastic talent here, so we may ask you some questions about yourself, your interest in the project, or to read a few more lines to help us better vet you for the role. Ideally this won't take up much of your time, so please bear with us as we work through this process. Lastly, once all roles have been vetted and filled, we'll post a final update with our selections, update the casting calls here, and wrap up the casting call. At the time of this update, no roles have been filled yet, so please disregard the casting decision stating 'cast to offsite actor' in the project page. Again, thanks for your time!
Short Description: Well-adjusted still-short family photographer with a secret.
Gender: F
Age: Young Adult, Approximately 19-22
Personality: Energetic, Positive, “Socially Conservative” (read: Awkward and shy)
Notes: Character occasionally swears and has screaming/shouting lines.
Voice: High, airy, General American accent.
Synopsis: Priscilla as an adult, or ‘Adult Pri’ as we refer to her in-house, is a mild-mannered photographer that’s since given up the life of a detective. She’s optimistic, energetic, and a huge contrast to her younger self by the time she enters focus. This role will require a lot of acting, since the actions the reader may or may not take influence her growth(or regression) as the truth behind the Dart Killer cases come to light or remains hidden. A good candidate for this character will have a light, airy and expressive voice, but have the flexibility for tense, romantic and dramatic moments.
(Confused, to herself) “It’s left to like. Right to reject…. Right?”
(Angry) I had this crazy idea! That one day we’d meet again, have a laugh and go back to that diner-- (Defeated, laughing at her misery ) But nope! You're arresting me. (Angry, under breath) God, I'm so stupid.
(Serious, deadpan, or smug) But the burglar's blunder brought Bruno’s bite to his backside, leaving behind a bit more than bruises.
Character: Priscilla(Pri) Vate, Young
Description: A hard boiled pint sized detective
Gender: F
Age: Preteen-Early Teen, Approximately 10-13.
Personality: Tomboy, Broody, Bossy.
Notes: Character swears in early scenes. Character has some shouting and screaming lines.
Synopsis: If the young Priscilla Vate could be compared to another character in fiction, it'd very likely be a little-girl version of Sam Spade(The Maltese Falcon.) She's serious to a fault and her abrasive, often bratty personality and 'potty mouth' directly puts her at odds with assistants and suspects alike. The attitude's supported by Priscilla's track record and trauma and, despite her age and stature, she's accustomed to the life of a hardboiled PI.
(Threatening, Assertive) "This isn't a lemonade stand, Mr. Jacobson. She's going to take a lot more than that away from you if you don't have these pictures. "
(Sad, Angry) "Protocol, huh? That's the word they use to justify murder."
(Mocking, Frustrated) "Maybe they should have asked dear sweet Valerie to come solve this case instead of me."
Role is paid at a negotiable rate.
We're looking for someone to assist us in the creation of our Kickstarter trailer. When The Shutter Stops would ideally have a trailer scoped around a thriller angle. We're looking for a short(30-45s) but exciting trailer. We have storyboards in the work for the editor that comes on to help us, but suggestions on the content are very welcome from a talented individual.
Experience with Visual Novel trailers nice, but not needed. Experience with Indie Film, particularly thriller/action trailers, preferred.
Say something you think would fit
Bennett (Rookie) is a cop in his early 20s. He's recently graduated from college and underwent his police training, only to have his first assignment blow up in his face and his second to be an escort and liaison to a sassy mouthed child detective. Despite his misgivings with the new assignment, Bennett (Rookie) has a heart of gold and is Priscilla's kind but reluctant partner.
Depth of involvement in project is contingent upon Kickstarter results. This role is guaranteed some involvement at base backing. Ideal candidate will be able to fill both rookie and veteran roles.
"It's a little girl?" (Confused, mildly & unpleasantly surprised)
"Hey, it's okay to ask for help. We all need it, once in a while." (Warm, Consoling, to Priscilla(Child))
"You're not going in there. Just stay here and be a good girl!" (Stressed, dire, in a dangerous situation, emphasis on good girl(Priscilla hates it))
Bennett (Veteran) is the same rookie cop from before. His time on the force has taken its toll. He's jaded and cynical, but there's a soft spot for a young woman who reappeared and took his breath away. Though she may be closer to his eye level, they definitely don't see eye to eye.
Bennett(Veteran) is a love interest and antagonist for the protagonist lead Priscilla (Adult).
Ideally, his accent should be North American, either West Coast (California, Washington) or New England(Philadelphia, New Jersey.)
"Not with the press, but you've got nice equipment." (Playful, mock analytical.)
"We should talk about the boring stuff over lunch some time." (Charming, or trying to be.)
"Paint's fresh. Lights warm still. Someone was here." (Analytical, Objective, Calculating)
Madison Sweets (Mads) is a college student who has taken up residence in Philadelphia. She has BIG emotions and rarely anything between. She's got a big sweet tooth. She befriends Priscilla Vate (Adult) and is her self-proclaimed best friend(though Priscilla never argues), and eventually her self-appointed side-kick(To Priscilla's frustration.) One of her character quirks involves slipping into a southern twang during her more intense moments.
She is one of Priscilla's love interests.
Madison's voice talent will need to be skilled with multiple North American accents, especially those from the Southern and Mid-Atlantic/New England regions.
"You're always late, Pri."/ (Southern): " You're always late, Pri." (Playful/Pouty)
"There's a mystery afoot? What are we waiting for?!" /(Southern): "There's a mystery afoot? What're we waitin' for?!" (Brimming with excitement)
Context: Priscilla, against her will, is being accompanied by Madison to visit a site of a ten-year old murder. Madison thinks it will be fun.
"I want to drive." / (Southern): "I wanna drive." (Seductive, Assertive.)
Context: Madison and Priscilla are already in a relationship where she is normally a femme or tomboy bottom. She's switching.
Samuel, often just Sam, is Priscilla's landlord and is both a protector and mentor to her younger self, and source of playful banter as an adult. Sam and Priscilla's relationship is complicated, but there's no one else Priscilla could trust more.
Sam is professional and feels most at home with a shirt and tie on, which may be where Priscilla's sense of fashion stems from. He's reliable, resilient and reserved in his emotions, even in the tensest of situations.
This character does not undergo significant changes through the time jump, and is not to be confused with his son, Samuel Simmons Jr. (Sammy)
"Nice to see you, too." (Sarcastic, Playful, After being mistaken for an unwanted visitor)
"Got rent?"
"Just don't do anything reckless-- No, just tell me before you do it."
Albertson, or 'A', is a veteran of the police force that has never left the lower ranks of it. He knows his role within the police force, and then some. He has a mature and authoritative voice, usually speaks with a purpose, and very rarely cracks a smile. Often speaks on behalf of the Philadelphia Police Force. Compare a character such as the chief from Inspector Gadget, or Commissioner Gordon from Batman: The Animated Series..
This role, like others, is paid at a negotiable rate.
"We need you to come at this from a fresh angle."
"We couldn't have done it without you, Vate!" (Celebratory, Conservatively Enthusiastic)
"Officer Bennett, stay with Ms. Vate. If she gives you an order, do it. Understood?"
This short role is used for the radio call signs for a fictional radio show being used as a promotion for the visual novel.
WRRM Filth Radio: We like it dirty.
Philadelphia's own Filth Radio, WRRM. We like it dirty.
This role is for a skit to be used as a promo for the visual novel and potentially incorporated into the visual novel itself.
*Say something you think would fit* (Improvisation welcome)
But I know the truth! Buncha' filthy, stinkin' liars!
They took that little girl, that poor little girl, and used her as bait to catch a monster.
This role is for a skit to be used as a promo for the visual novel and potentially incorporated into the visual novel itself.
(Improvisation welcome)
But you don't know that. That could have been anyone! (/anybody)
See, I heard something different. People I've talked to say she was there snooping around
This waitress role is part of our promotional skit. There are no specific requirements for this short role in terms of voice, though we would prefer a more mature voice, plausibly older than our heroine. There is no predetermined accent for this character.
"Think he'll come today?"(Curious, pity)
"Hang in there." (Sad, pity)
"Everything all right, (hun/sweetie?)"(Worried, cautious, use your preferred term of endearment as you see fit)
