The Kaard-Case Project [A Deltarune AU] - (Minor update as of 2/6/2020)

Project Overview

Hello, people of CCC!
Welcome to a casting call that almost didn't happen-

To get right down to business, Allow me to explain what Kaard-Case is. By this point, we have one episode out and we've gotten a small name to ourselves. Ignore this moment of self celebration, but... woot! 1k+ views on the first episode!-

Though, some time ago we've produced our main trailer, "Episode 0"! This sets up the format and look that can be expected from episodes that will come in the future. If your interested to see what we're working with, see the video above!

What is Kaard-Case?
Kaard-Case is a highly ambitious AU project for Deltarune, taking place before the events of the game. This *is* an AU, so some things are going to be a little different- though the idea for the AU is to tell a story that sets up for Deltarune. The coming of the knight, the other kings, Jevil's descent into insanity... it's all going to be covered! As it is, we're in the story boarding stages, and so we have a LOT to do. While this call is for crew, we also have decided that we will look for canonical voices for the characters of Kaard-Case. As a disclaimer, these voices will not be used conventionally. While we may use some voice lines and ask you to mimic an unusual laugh or specific sound effect, the main thing we're using these canonical voices for are two things: One, we will use your voice of the character to create a unique text font, using samples from your take. Two, we MIGHT dub the mock-up game play, likely doing so after the fact... though this option is somewhat unlikely. Regardless, we'd like to have canonical voices for these characters! And that, in a nutshell, is what this Casting Call is all about.

If you have more questions, feel free to join the discord! ( https://discord.gg/FM2fcJM )

Oh! It's also worthwhile to note that some characters already have voice actors, so the whole cast is not currently present.
Also, I apologize for the lack of consistency in the character images. We do have some profile sprites and such, but only battle sprites or concept art exist for some characters. Please excuse the lack of organization! If it gets to be too bothersome, i'll fix it up as quickly as I can manage-

Also also, I'm aware that some characters are missing from this list- this casting call is now in it's second wave of characters, so most roles should be handled, though there will likely be more to come- please stay posted!

Remember! We're casting WAY in advance! For the most part, your voice will be used for a unique soundfont, and eventually an official dub. That official dub is WAY far out, though, so get in while you can and hang out for a while!

Requirements:
Have Discord: This is our main method of communication.
Stay committed! All is fine if you simply can't keep with the project the whole way, but it would be tedious to find replacements. This project may take a bit to get going, so please be willing to stick around.
- You probably saw this one coming: We need decent mics. We don't mind if your audio is a little wonky, as we can clean it up if we enjoy your voice enough. I mean to say that we don't want any dogs barking in the background, and that we want you to be generally easy to understand.

And that's all! Thanks for coming to take a look, and good luck to all of you auditionees!

Another important note: The story, along with character details, are currently undergoing change, and may shift in coming times. Please stay tuned-

Latest Updates

  • Minor updates! One more wave on it's way?

We're still alive and kickin' Baby! In this update, we've lightly managed the project description, changed the order of the audition-able roles, and... are beginning to go for *one more wave* of characters... but heads up! That'll be the final wave! The rest of the characters will be outsourced, and we will be reaching out to specific individuals for roles. Get ready, folks! We're coming to the casting conclusion soon.
  • Minor update on voice descriptions

A could of the characters from wave one of this casting call were rather vague- admittedly some lazy work. With this update we went back and edited some of the voice descriptions to be a little more specific.
  • Five new roles were added!

As the title suggests, five new roles have been added for audition! These roles include Hectorgon, Hextor, Gemini, Joey Fuzz, and Fred Phantom.
  • Thanks for all the auditions! (Not done yet, though)

To be blunt with this, I wasn't sure we'd get the kind of auditions we did. We've got some very talented people going for these roles, and the overall attention we've gotten here is very much so appreciated! Apologies all around for not updating you all sooner, but we're back on track for voice scouting now. Speaking of which, we do need a VA for King of Clubs, as we've noticed that there have been no auditions thus far. If there's something that has discouraged you from auditioning, please let us know!

The Knight

The Character
The Kaard-Case Knight is an entity that very few individuals know about. Excluding Darkness (who can see into the future) and the few that survive his kingdom scale attacks, his existence is a mystery, as he has only recently emerged. Speaking little and doing a lot, the Knight is a deadly force to be reckoned with, equipped with absurd gear, powerful dark magic, and the ability to corrupt a weak target to their will. At the beginning of Kaard-Case, the knight has just finished taking down the Chess Kingdom, a neighboring kingdom to the Kaard Kingdom. Deeming the area unworthy of a fountain and unwilling to face future resistance, he demolished the kingdom in it's entirety, corrupting it's kings and bringing about it's downfall. Overall, he's a mysterious figure that is essentially unknown- but when he arrives, his feats will spread like an uncontrollable wildfire. After all, this kind of individual doesn't show up every day.

The voice
The Knight's voice is one you can take a few paths with- Being super expressive isn't as important as the tone. Somewhat low and echoey, the general expected voice is more of a growl than anything else- try and portray a serious nature when speaking.

Format reminder

  • "...Interesting."

[This may be an unusual request, but this is important. The Knight doesn't speak much, so it's imperative that when they do, a lot is portrayed. If you can manage, try and say as much as you can with just this one word]

  • *Before you is a decrepit gate, obviously worn down over the years by neglect.*
    "How distasteful."

[This is basically some flavor text- the *'s marking the inner thoughts and the "'s marking the spoken part. Do what you will with this, but make sure to speak clearly]

  • "Time has come to raise a fountain. In my travels, few places are prime for such an important catylyst in my plan... and sense so many disagree with me, kingdoms fall in their entirety so that I do not get un-needed resistance down the road. This kingdom, however... it was no easy feat to make it to this point. This kingdom may stand... if you allow the placement of the fountain."

[This is the the knight explaining how he intends to put up fountains, explaining his plan to the defeated Kaard-Kings (No, this isn't spoilers- we all knew this had to happen sense Kaard-Case is meant to lead up to Deltarune). Try and deliver it like your offering a deal that you know would be a poor idea to turn away]

Ace of Hearts (Dhaklude)
open

The Character
The Ace of Hearts is, as most of the aces are, mimicking their kings rather closely. Wearing a similar hood and making up for the kingswear (the outfit that only the king can wear) with fancy attire, they strive to match the levelheaded tone that the King of Hearts gives off- and they will do almost anything to please. They don't really like the other kings that much, and so they act as a sort of "yes man" for the King of Hearts. While he's the weakest out of the Aces, he is a logically minded fellow who shares a similar mentality with the King of Hearts. He's open minded and laid back, though his pushy and mischievous personality occasionally comes through. In Kaard-Cases timeline, he is the first one to encounter the knight.

The voice
Dhaklude's voice is expected to be somewhat average in register, not going to high nor pushing the pitch too low. Keeping the tone well spoken is generally a good idea, and while a Brittish accent isn't required, it would be a nice touch. We *have* casted King of Hearts as of this update, so if you're take for Dhaklude can be inspired by Rev's take (as the Aces tend to copy mannerisms from the kings)

  • "Gerson, my old friend- for a traveling writer, you do a lot of sitting."

[Before you ask, yes, Gerson is in Kaard-Case. More details on that at another time, though- Ace of Hearts is greeting a friend. Keep it to a friendly tone for this line]

  • "Vahl, for the last time... I'm not going to spar with you. I'm aware that your usual sparring partner isn't present, but we both know I can't keep up with you. You're the ace of Clubs, for goodness sakes! Put that position to use and spar with some ruddins or something."

[This line should sound a little peeved, like your answering a question you've been asked multiple times... in the past hour]

  • "As our benevolant King of Hearts always says... 'Jevil, you abominable box goblin if you don't stop that right this instant i'm going to transfer your court to Clubs'."

[Long story short, Neither the Ace or King of hearts are fond of Jevil's antics- this line should be calm at first, but harsh as soon as the quoting begins]

Hectorgon

The Character
This is Hectorgon, son of the royal conductor Hextor and the captain of the one and only "Lancer Fan Club"! He's no prince himself, as his status only stretches as far as familial ties with a member of the Kaard castle staff. He's more than willing to go above and beyond to support Lancer and the other princes from the sidelines (though he favors Lancer)- If need be, he'll even leap in to act as a personal bodyguard! As the captain of the Lancer Fan Club, they have control over assembly of some miscellaneous castle staff: these mostly consist of Spade Guards, Ruddins, and Hathys.

The Voice
Hectorgon's voice is pretty similar to Lancer in energy, so if you already have a voice for Lancer you're well on your way! His voice is a little smoother, though, regardless of the energy. Hectorgon is a little older than the princes, though, so don't go *too* crazy with the pitch.
No accents are required for this voice, though his father (Hextor) fakes a french accent- feel free to try and do something similar!

  • "Bwah ha ha! And so arrives Hectorgon, Captain of the Lancer Fan Club! Misdoers of the spade prince beware, for... uh... shoot I forgot my own speech."

[For this, attempt to introduce yourself in a way you imagine Lancer would- after all, he's mimicking Lancer. Drop the energy once he realizes he's forgotten his speech. Bonus points if you improvise an ending to this!]

  • "oH mY GOd I'M MeEtIng LanCeR FaCe to FaCe?? And I doN't knOW wHAt TO sAy???"

[Hectorgon is a Lancer fanboy, and while he can get down to business even in their presence, meeting them face would be something of a dream for Hectorgon]

  • "Listen up, Whats-your-face! I don't know why your causing trouble or generally who your even supposed to be... but nobody messes with the Spade Prince without going through me!"

[No context on who Hectorgon is talking to is needed (though you may be able to tell), but the point here is that their standing up for Lancer- try and portray a defiant tone if you can manage it.]

Hextor, The Royal Conductor
open

The Character
This is Hextor, the royal conductor! Part of the court of clubs, they are known well for their ability to compose and conduct music: They were drafted into their position by the king of Clubs per Banter's request. They often get stuck following Banter around sense Banter almost always has the royal orchestra in tow, though he takes himself very seriously- He's gone days without sleep in order to keep working and strives to be the most efficient in his craft. He's known for taking himself a little *too* seriously from time to time, going as far as to throw down duel challenges to anyone who so much as jokes about his reputation in a way he finds insulting. Additionally, despite not actually being French (as they are a darkener and have no way to be French logically), they bear a decently strong French accent... nobody knows quite why this is.

The Voice
As was noted in the character details, Hextor has a strong French accent. Now, you can go one of two ways with this: You can either go for a convincing accent, or you can go for an accent that is intentionally fake sounding- either works. It's also important to keep in mind that he's somewhat monotone in speaking, and his voice is in a low register- though, when he gets mad he really gets MAD.

Format reminder

  • "At ease! We have been instructed to construct fanfare for the arrival of an important guest! In other words... we are free from following Banter today."

[This is simply Hextor addressing his orchestra as a whole- speak as if making an announcement to a group.]

  • "Hectorgon! Front and center! Where were you on your cue for the xylophone? It is beyond important that our entire orchestra performs at it's best- I cannot have you slacking off!"

[Here, Hextor is speaking to his son, Hectorgon, in a demeaning tone: His reputation means a lot to him, though his son doesn't come in on his cues. Address this like it's a problem you've brought up a hundred times before already.]

  • "You pork-bellied buffoon! You're as stupid as a suitcase without a handle if you think i'm going to take such a comment about my work lightly! If you intend to back your words, duel me here and now- Otherwise, bite your tongue and say no more!"

[Imagine this- Hextor is VERY proud of his position, so much so that a comment about his work that isn't meant to be constructive can upset him greatly. Try and show that you're not taking anyone's nonsense]

The King of Hearts (Omhoudhosusaban)
closed

Role assigned to: Revtrosity

The character
The King of Hearts- An ever ominous individual who, despite his care and attention for his kingly duties, is the kingdoms least favorite king. Having been shown to have ghost like powers, their tenancy to make ominous remarks or appear/disappear at random unsettles most. His actual name is "Omhoudhosusaban", but few can actually pronounce it- thus, everyone simply refers to him as "Hearts" (Or "King of Hearts" to refer to him formally). Out of the kings, he is the one who handles the work that the other kings neglect. Without getting into the full message, he's essentially the one doing all the paperwork (Making treaties, passing important rulings, etc.). He enjoys being mysterious and maintaining a levelheaded tone. It is noteworthy that he enjoys his mysterious nature to such a degree that he doesn't even have an outside handle on the door to his room, instead passing through it when he needs to get in. He is also the main king that handles tutoring the four princes, as the other kings are often busy elsewhere.
On top of it all, he is rarely seen in his actual form. If being ghostly wasn't enough, he's also somewhat spider like in where he has four eyes and four arms, though he almost always hides his eyes and second set of arms because they upset the princes. His weapon is a summon-able scythe with an absurdly long blade.

The voice
Hearts's voice is meant to be smooth and somewhat low, even somewhat soothing to listen to. He's softly spoken, but he articulates his words very sharply. Ominous chuckles at the end of a sentence get you bonus points- Also, it is worthwhile to note that a VA has to be capable of pulling a complete 180, going from soft and withdrawn to coarse and aggressive for the moments when he loses his cool.

Format reminder

  • "Oh, you simple fools... there's four kings here and yet not one of us can come to a decision? At this pace, we may as well lend our thrones to our respective princes early. Obviously we simply cannot handle the concept of keeping a clear head... I'm looking at you, Clubs."

[This is something that Hearts does a lot during meetings, using the threat of instating the next generation of rulers early in order to get the other kings to focus. If you can manage it, try and be a liiiiiittle bit sarcastic with this line]

  • "Oh, you don't want to know the answer to that. Trust me, I didn't either."

[This is one of the intentionally ominous or unsettling comments Hearts makes, so try and deliver it as if you were trying to spook someone a little bit]

  • [Maniacle laughter]
"Oh, poor, poor you! You can swing your blade about and threaten this kingdom as much as you want... but when you harm it's people you have taken things a step too far. Complain if you want! This is Karma for your misdeeds!"

[This is an instance of that 180 I referenced in the voice description- This is something that Hearts says (may not stay) during his first battle with the Knight, so his anger needs to be apparent]

The King of Clubs (Al)

Role assigned to: The OC Creator

The Character
The King of Clubs- To him, power is everything. His status and his title as king are more important to him than even his own life, and he has an unquenchable thirst for power. He believes the best way to rule the kingdom is by way of the classic Iron Grasp, putting in place absurd punishments for breaking even the most trivial rule. He keeps the court of clubs in line by way of intimidation, having a rule set in place that, no matter how small a transgression, if he catches you breaking a law you are going to have to fight him right then and there on the spot until you can no longer stand. He stands at an absurd height, towering over the other kings and even the Knight by a noticeable margin. His military prowess and physical prowess make him a force to be reckoned with, though he has a weakness: Unlike the other kings, his magic is poor and limited. To make up for it, he fights with sheer power, doing so physically instead of from a distance. He has gone through usage of multiple weapons, though he has always resorted to his fists in battle. He puts an enormous amount of pressure on his son, Banter, as he feels that their petite nature (Banter is the shortest character in Kaard-Case) is going to hurt him as a king. Overall, the King of Clubs is the most powerful of the kings in terms of sheer force, and both his comrades and the kingdom know it well.

The voice
This voice is a tough one. We want it to be VERY low. He has a booming voice that he often uses to demand respect without having to word such a request out. He shouts a lot, but when he isn't shouting his voice is somewhat muffled by his helmet, which he refuses to remove even while he's resting. Sometimes, he trails off into mumbles that nobody can understand- feel free to use filters to handle all this stuff if you want! Remember that we need it to stay natural sounding, though, so don't pitch yourself down by 20 notches or anything crazy.

  • "Banter, my son... come fourth. You know the rules against misdeeds as well as anyone, and yet you continue to play by the foolish shenanigans of your fellow princes with no regard for your reputation. Had you not been my son, punishment would be in order- But know this, Banter: At this rate, you will never be king."

[Clubs is VERY harsh on Banter, so this line is simple in delivery: Speak like a disappointed parent]

  • "FOOL! Your transgression will not be overlooked! No matter the deed, all rules must be upheld at any cost! Take up your weapon and prepare for combat! PUNISHMENT IS AT HAND!"

[Clubs says this EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. he gets in a fight with someone who broke the rules. This doesn't stop him from giving it a dramatic delivery, though- speak as if you think your bringing down some sort of unseen justice that only you can deliver]

  • "I'm well aware that we have to keep our own people safe, but I don't really get how we're supposed to be kings if we can't even..." [Trail off into mumbles]

Rhombus, Prince of Diamonds

Role assigned to: Mr Amazing VA

The character
Rhombus, the prince of Diamonds. His father (the King of Diamonds) is beyond goofy, and their constant dad jokes have desensitized Rhombus to bad humor. For this reason, he has leaned into being a more sensible individual than the other four princes. This isn't to say he doesn't have a sense of humor, however, but it points out the reasoning behind the gap in maturity between him and the other princes. Having taken a liking to logic, science and the likes of fact based things have caught his interest, and he's the most likely individual to do things by the rules- In conclusion, he's often the voice of reason in the Trio of Four, and often takes a backseat to their shenanigans.

The voice
Rhombus is a lot more reserved than most, and his nervous tenancies result in his voice reflecting heavily on his shy personality. He's softly spoken, even somewhat raspy at some points. If you can find a way to show off their disproportionate maturity in their voice (but remember that they are a kid!) then you get bonus points!

  • "I know you probably won't even listen to me, but this really doesn't seem like a good idea, guys..."

[The basic nervous/unsettled tone - A lot of lines like this would come up for Rhombus, so it's important to hear what you've got]

  • "Fehehehe! I told you guys that you'd get in trouble! This is what you get!"

['Fehehehe' is Rhombus's laugh, though it's more of a snarky chuckle. This line is to be delivered like you were just found to be right in... pretty much any scenario]

  • "daaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! Can you stop telling those jokes for one minute? You're driving me crazy!"

[Rhombus's dad, the King of Diamonds, tells a LOT of jokes, and their all usually pretty Dad-joke-ish in quality. For this reason, Rhombus doesn't like it when he tells them- try and portray that in your take!]

Role assigned to: deleted213448

The character
Spectre, prince of the court of Hearts! A member of the trio of four (Lancer, Banter, Spectre, and Rhombus), they are boisterous and outgoing, even more so than Lancer on occasion. Son to the King of Hearts, he has inherited some ghostly abilities befitting of his name- though, he can't control them very well. He has the ability to phase through solids or even become weightless... at random times. It isn't uncommon for them to simply fall through the floor or trip through walls, and it's even more common for them to get stuck halfway in a wall or the ground. While all four of the princes are friends, Banter shares a special friendship with Lancer, as their the one who usually brings a spade (get it? Because there's a shovel called a spade? No? ok.) over to dig them out of their entrapment.

The voice
General, we want something close to Lancer's voice, but just not quite- This one is up to interpretation! Keep in mind that Spectre is a kid, though, so the voice is going to be generally higher pitched. No accents are necessary, but I can imagine his father (King of Hearts) having a slight British accent that Spectre could maybe pick up on- though, sense this may not come into play, please do a separate take with the accent applied. Sense this isn't mandatory, bonus points to whoever does this!

  • "Bweh heh heh! Don't mess with me, or you'll be scared squeakless! In fact... I'd spook ya somethin' "bad!"

[This line, specifically the 'Spook ya somethin' bad' is essentially his catchphrase, so delivering it with a little gusto would be preferable]

  • "Yada, yada. You talk a lot, ya know that? I say we cut out the middle man and get right down to the mischief!"

[This line, while not planned to show up anywhere, is essentially an interruption. Starting it with high energy would be a plus!]

  • "Hello?.. G.. Guys? Guys i'm stuck in the floor again. Where'd you guys go? You comin' back?"

[Here's the scenario for this: The trio of four has a prank planned, but just as they run off, Spectre phases accidentally and gets stuck in the floor. Try to deliver this from the perspective of someone who needs a little help but knows that it may not come]

Daere, the current Duke of Puzzles

The Character
Daere is the current duke of puzzles at the time of Kaard-Case's events. He's a heck of a character, so while a lot is said a lot will be missed, too! Daere is one of the most critically minded individuals in the entirety of the Kaard Kingdom. Capable of creating puzzles that the kings occasionally have to order him to take down sense nobody can even solve them, Daere is popular throughout the kingdom not only for his high charisma, but for the fact that he is the longest standing Duke of Puzzles in the Kaard Kingdoms history. He's absurdly goofy, and fittingly part of the Diamond court. Capable of pulling a construction directly off of blueprints, his ability to go from one task to the next with great speed is unparalleled- and so is his battle prowess. While the kings are entirely unaware, Daere is an overwhelmingly powerful fighter, capable of going toe to toe with the knight in a pinch. With a stretchy body on top of his almost limitless stamina, it's a shame that he was fired before the knight arrived to the kingdom. Why he was fired? Well, he started making puzzles in such frequency that people started being unable to get into the Kaard castle or even get around, and so he was fired with haste before it was made impossible to maneuver. His role as Duke of Puzzles would soon after be filled by the Ace of Diamonds. Many were upset to see Daere go, but once it got to the point that he was installing puzzles on individual windows, the subjects of the Kaard Kingdom were understanding of his loss of role.

The voice
Daere's voice is up for interpretation, as the main thing we want is for him to be over the top and as goofy as one can manage. The makeshift voice for him currently has a lisp, though you needn't copy that if you don't feel like it. Overall, High energy is ESSENTIAL for this character. Additionally, If your voice is solid and you do improvisation, you'll likely get cast early-

  • "Uohohoho! And so begins another puzzling scenario! Prepare your mind, for you are about to be bamboozled to the upmost degree!"

[This is something that Daere says every time someone stumbles into a puzzle of his. The laugh is meant to be dramatic and over the top even compared to his usual, as it's how he opens his interactions 90% of the time. Improvisation is encouraged!]

  • "And so begins another day, eh Bartholowax? We're off to do another collection of whatever nonsense we please with little to no guidelines! What could possibly go wrong?"

[This is essentially Daere speaking to himself, as he's speaking to the bee puppet hanging off of his hat which he has named "Benson Bartholowax". It is noteworthy that he refuses to detach the puppet and considers it a friend]

  • "The duke! Of puzzles. That is indeed me, O'Mr. King of Clubs, sir! How may Bartholowax and I be of service?"

[Just stick to Daere's usual goofy tone for this one. As is with Daere's lines, improvisation is encouraged. Surprise us if you can!]

Gemini, The royal adviser

Role assigned to: Rybellious

The Character
Gemini is, and has been for a rather long time, the royal adviser. Appointed by and working under the court of clubs, they are the only member of the Kaard Castle staff that has almost absolute control over each of the four courts, even having say over some actions of the princes. Though, he doesn't make much use of it, as he's often too much of a nervous wreck, spending all his time preparing for the worst possible scenario no matter how unlikely. They have an infallible sense for "the logical thing to do" on an unbiased note, and is even trained in battle tactics. Clubs doesn't much like him, thinking that he's incompetent and doesn't deserve his role- though, the other kings defend him and appreciate the advice he gives... when he manages to give it.

The Voice
Gemini's voice is in a medium to high register. He is well spoken (except for a light stutter that gets worse when he's nervous), and while it isn't mandatory a British accent is a welcome addition to any take. Remember that from time to time they stutter, and that their voice is a little shaky sense they are constantly nervous- the stuttering increases dramatically when they are worried or upset.

  • "My thoughts? I-I don't really have any input, Clubs, Sire, though I appreciate that you'd think to ask me... though I cannot answer without more information!"

[Here, Gemini has been addressed by the King of Clubs for a tactical opinion, though Gemini is highly intimidated by king of clubs and his nervousness stops him from being able to come up with an answer- speak as if you have been put on the spot without warning.]

  • "A wonderful decision, sire. A little risky, as per the usual, but wonderful nonetheless."

[Gemini is a bit of a "yes man" when it comes to any suggestion made by the King of Diamonds, willing to jump on board almost any suggestion they make. Speak as if they had suggested something and you are eager to back them up.]

The Character
The Ace of Clubs is, just as is common with the aces, mimicking their respective king to some degree. Looking up to the King of Clubs's affinity for combat without magic, the Ace of Clubs follows suit, wearing enormous metal cuffs to artificially weight their punches. Their somewhat generic in the idea that their the "Big guy who likes to fight and shouts a lot", though they have a noteworthy resolve. In battle, it only takes them one turn to get back onto their feet after being downed, and can only lose after either being downed three times in a row (immediately after getting up) or by having him be downed while their whole team is also downed. They are the appointed head of security by the King of Clubs, as they appreciate sharing a mindset with someone... even if it is an ace.

The voice
The ace of clubs's voice is very rough and very LOUD. They basically shout everything, even if they don't need to. If you can get it to be somewhat guttural of a voice, give it a shot!

  • "Bah! How am I supposed to keep up with Sir King Clubs's strength if I don't keep up with my training? Spar with me, I say! SPAAAAAR!"

[This line should be delivered from a stubborn son of a gun who has made this request many times already but just won't take no for an answer]

  • "Yes, Sir King of Clubs! As it will always be... You can count on me!"

[Nothing much in terms of direction here- stay high on energy! Vahl is eager to please the king of his suit, as all the Aces are]

  • [Do some general battle grunts. Ace of Clubs is the only character who does this... and he does it a LOT]

The Character (SPOILERS AHEAD) [May change in the future]
Darkness is the first antagonist in Kaard-Case, acting as a padding time boss character that lets us build up the world of Kaard-Case and explain things before we bring in the knight to break it down. Darkness is a Seer, and is capable of seeing into the future- however, they cannot see the present and live only in the future. They can time their responses to seem as if they are in the present, but they always know what will happen before it does. Having come from a few kingdoms away, his home was subject to demolition by the knight, causing Darkness to migrate to the next kingdom. Unfortunately, the knight seemed to be following them, and for four kingdoms in a row the knight would break it down just as he made his place. Out of desperation, he heads towards one of the strongest kingdoms they know of - the Kaard kingdom. By the time they get there, they are bitter and filled with sorrowful warnings of the knights coming. Though, their words are shunned as lies and misdirection. Unable to handle the continued forceful movement and unceasing rejection, Darkness snapped. Out of spite, they took out their rage on the Kaard-Kingdom, making use of some confusing theories they had come up with in order to stir confusion- these very theories would eventually come to drive Jevil insane. They were an insurmountably powerful foe, only stopped when they were eventually faced with a foe they couldn't keep up with - no spoilers on who!

The voice
For this, a filter would be encouraged. Echoey, ghostlike, and unnatural, Darkness's voice can be either male or female, or androgynous/Gener neutral. Overall, they should sound unnatural and cynical. Do whatever you'd like with this!

  • "Yes. No. How are you- and then silence. I know your reactions to my coming abilities, though I decided to open with this just to let you know that I am indeed the real deal. I can indeed see the future... and I need you to trust that."

[Darkness is introducing themselves here, and their trying to make their ability to see the future (or rather their inability to process the present)

  • [Give me your very best set of chuckles and laughs. Sound effects for these will be used for Darkness, so it's important to make sure you can match the character in these moments]

  • "What is life but a game? The rules are what we accept as reality, and we have accepted as a people that you cannot break them! And yet, we set rules for ourselves within those very rules? The world has trapped itself, and you are all too blind to see it! It has been due for too long for DARKNESS to shed some LIGHT!"

[This is something said soon after darkness reaches their breaking point, and the line that starts Jevil's mental descent. Delivering this line should be in an angry tone, somewhat bitter- try and speak as if this is something you've wanted to say for a LONG time]

The Character
[Before making notes about the character, there is something that is worth bringing up: Joey Fuzz will not appear in the first chapter of Kaard-Case, so if you happen to be cast you may be around for a bit before you come into play. That said, the character info is below!]

Joey Buzz- A celebrity from the Craft kingdom. Their a hitman by trade, but their methods are a little... direct. When they plan to fight someone, you'll know: Everyone makes a huge fuss of it. He's a huge goofball chalk filled with quips your bound to hear over the course of a battle- and his confidence is well earned. The guy is more construct than creature, and his stamina is almost limitless- And he always fights at his best for his fans. He's certainly not subtle by any means, but if you receive a challenge from Joey Fuzz, you'd best watch your back. Outside of the Craft Kingdom, though, he's more likely to be noticed and get a "Huh, there goes that guy" from bypasses. Armed with a whole arsenal of craft materials, he's a versatile opponent to say the least. However, he's a questionable loser- upon dropping anywhere past half HP, he flees, always shouting "To flee is to fly, and not to die!", tossing glitter to the wind like a smoke bomb to cover his escape.

The Voice
This voice has a lot of different paths you could take- We were unable to decide on one specific thing that we were looking for. For one, you can go for a low, dopey voice. Another option is to keep the low, goofy tone but add a southern accent to it. Or, if you don't like those options you can always make them sound like a knockoff Elmo- The choice is yours!

  • "Greetings, Target! I'm Joey Fuzz, though you may already know me! I'm currently on a tight schedule, so i'll get right to the point! Somebody *really* doesn't like you, and has put a hit on your head! With that, I am here to rhetorically challenge you to a duel!"

[Joey is extremely blunt with his choice of words, so try and speak as if there's nothing even slightly wrong with the fact that you just announced that the person your speaking to has a hit on their head]

  • "Ohp! It seems things are getting a little tight... Looks like we'll have to pick this up another time! To flee is to fly, and not to die!"

[Here, Joey is realizing that he's currently losing the battle (and is below half HP), preparing to run away and try again later. As he says "to flee is to fly and not to die" every time he does this, it's essentially his catchphrase- try and deliver it as if you were an actor loudly projecting a message to a crowd]

  • "Hello, individual in whom I do not recognize! I'm currently working on the job, so i've aught to keep to my task! However, if you'd like an autograph i've always got time for my fans!"

[Remember, Joey is a celebrity. Sure, it's strange for someone in his line of work, but it's how he works nonetheless. He does his best to be charismatic, so try and keep an upbeat tone while speaking!]

The Character
This is Fred Phantom, the best (and only) salesman in the Kaard kingdom! Known for having driven all his completion our of business, he's an absurdly stubborn ghost who's got more than enough wit to go around. He's beyond persistent, following folks around to try and get them to buy something from him- This wouldn't be so bad if he weren't a ghost. As a spirit, it's almost impossible to make him go away. If anyone attempts to use something to ward off ghosts against him, he'll snatch it with unrivaled speed and precision, attempting to sell it back to the original owner. If anyone asks, he takes these items for "Civil misconduct", which his way of saying "that was rude so I took it". Despite his open thievery, however, he's a bit of a hypocrite... stealing from Fred Phantom is a very bad idea. While nobody knows how he got as powerful as he is sense he's never seen doing much more than bugging folks to buy his wares, he's absurdly powerful. King of clubs has attempted to draft him into his forces on multiple occasions, but Fred simply isn't interested in anything that doesn't make him a profit. Such said, he's a merciless fighter who can and will follow someone to the ends of the earth until the thief pays double the items price. It is almost universal in the Kaard kingdom to just... avoid him and generally not steal from him. Such said, as he travels often it's only a matter of time before an encounter will ensue!

The Voice
There are two routes you can take with this character- For one, you can go for their voice at base, such being medium to high in register and very raspy. With this take, inflections are very important- this character is very expressive with their persuasions! The other take you can try is to do *the most* generic commercial salesman voice ever- speak fast and emphasis things a lot.
No matter what voice you choose to go with, though, one universal thing is that he has a very, *very* wheezy laugh. I'm not telling you to hold it out for a super long period of time, but the more cartoonishly comical you can make his wheezing the better!
(His laughs are typed out as "hhhhhah!" to emphasize his wheeze)

  • "Hello, Hello! The name's Fred Phantom- Pleased to make your acquaintance! If you don't know me, I'm a salesman of sorts! If you do, then all the better! Now, I'm going to offer you a very special product..."

[Fred does this a lot- Imagine that you see someone you haven't seen, so you butt into their focus and speak quickly, not giving them time to respond so you can get to the point.]

  • "Welcome to the Soul-kermarket, where you can buy just about anything! Oh, and remember- no refunds!"

[This is just some basic dialogue you could expect to see when entering his shop, which is called the "soul-kermarket" as a play on "supermarket". Fred is a little shifty, but try to appear friendly when saying these things- bonus points if you pull a full 180 and speak the "refunds" line in a harsh tone.]

  • "Hhhhah! Hah hhah! Did you really think you could pull a fast one on me? I'm pretty perceptive for a guy with no eyes, don't ya think? That aside, I'm only gonna give you one chance to put back what you're trying to steal."

[In this scenario, Fred has caught someone stealing from him- and he doesn't take kindly to thieves (despite the fact that he'll snatch ghost warding things and try to sell them back to the original owners). He maintains his usual tone while speaking here, but remember that this *is* meant to be a threat of sorts.]
