Masculine and/or Feminine, Early 20s
Backstory: Quinn is an amnesiac who was found in the rubbles of an old ruin, whose memories were damaged by an accident. The party takes him with them in hopes that they will find some clue in their journey.
Personality: Quinn appears cool and collected, even intimidating. But in reality, they are a quiet person due to their lack of emotional and social development, which makes them socially awkward and clumsy.
Despite their first impression, Quinn is a very soft, if not cute, person, eager to learn about the world and people around them. Over time, they learn to be vocal about their needs and wants. Their lack of innate understanding of current-day customs as a result of growing up in a different era often leads them to approach complex issues in almost reductive ways (but never maliciously).
Voice Quality/Tone: Subdued, Calm, Collected, but not emotionless. Breathy, monotone, and steady paced. Not robotic.
Language and Accents: English - American or British, but not over the top.

“Every now and then I have this dream - I’m talking to this person, sitting in peace and drinking tea. Their face eludes me, their words too. But… I feel like they are telling me something important.”
“Mad? No, I'm not upset... Am I supposed to be? Did something happen? Are you alright?
“I know the way. Don’t ask me how or why - just trust me for a moment, please.”
Masculine, 18-21 years old
Backstory: Gillian always dreamed of joining the adventuring guild. He was left with a motivation to pursue this when a sense of vengeance took hold of his life after a Yokai raid on the village his family lived in. His parents perished in the attack, leaving him alone to protect his sister, adventuring being his source of income that also helps him pursue his goal of eliminating as many Yokai as he can.
Personality: Gillian is a straightforward dude with a big heart and an outgoing personality, always happy to dive into another adventure and help those in need. However, that friendly attitude flips when faced with Yokai, revealing his disdain and hatred of them - considering them cruel beasts who need to be slain at all costs. He treats his party like his family, replacing the hole his dead parents left behind with his new friends. Accordingly, his care and bond with his sister at home is an important aspect of his character. In many ways, Gillian appears as the "Hero" type archetype, creating a contrast to the outwardly rather gloomy protagonist Quinn.
Voice Quality/Tone: High Energy, Hero-type. Casual and informal. Bro-energy. There is no difference between his inside and outside voice. Curious and will ask a question without thinking it over first. Act first, think later.

“Someone’s gotta look out for the little guys…”
“Of course, we’ll help. What kind of adventurers would we be if we didn’t - Right guys?”
(Agitated) “Get it together...! We’re not giving up. Not now, not ever.”
Feminine, Early 20s
Backstory: A young pious knight who seeks to fulfill her Oath to her Kingdom, Sophie struggled to even enter the academy that trained her due to the small stature of her and her kin. Not wanting to disappoint her family who gave up almost everything to get her where she was though, she worked hard to stand out amongst her class.
Personality: Among the group, Sophie is probably the most chipper and openly cheerful of the cast. While not a child by any means, she often acts as if she had not a worry on her mind, treating adventuring as a fun past-time and often fails to take more complex issues and problems into account in regards to adventuring ('Then we'll just save them, sounds easy enough!'). She can be serious in critical situations and, fitting for a Knight, she does not hesitate to get in the thick of things, using herself as a living barrier between the danger and her friends.
She reduces problems to their simple forms and then acts upon them as she has been trained.
Making fun of her height will probably get you clocked in the stomach with her shield.
Voice Quality/Tone: Upbeat, Energetic, happy-go-lucky, a fairytale-esque knight. Relatively high pitched, but avoid sounding like a child.

(Straightforward) “Plan’s simple: Defeat the bad guys, save the good ones.”
"There’s no such thing as a chosen one. A knight’s heart beats in all of us - courage is what calls it forth."
“The darker the night, the brighter the stars - that's what my grandmother always said. Each challenge is another chance for us to shine."
Masculine, 25
Backstory: Arthur is also from a humble place in the outskirts of the Republic. After completing his arcane studies, he set out as an adventurer to gain experience and find direction in what to do with his life - and help those in need in the meantime. During his travels, he met Gillian and they quickly became friends. He’s a tall and muscular man that one would rather clock as a warrior rather than a mage, and he is acutely aware of the impression he makes on others.
Personality: Despite his imposing physical presence, he is pretty level-headed and calm even in more stressful situations, often appearing as a very grounded and calming presence for the party. He's a big brother type, especially for Gillian and Seon, often breaking up their fights by force or direct intervention. “The Responsible One” of the party, Arthur often is the voice of reason for the team.
Arthur will often accept and adapt to the changing situation, but he has his limits. If someone pushes too far, Arthur will respond with magical violence.
Voice Quality/Tone: Level Headed, introverted, but not shy or stuttery. Unintentionally intimidating. Quiet - but imposing. When he raises his voice, people stop in their tracks.

“This mechanism.. Hmm. I think I understand. Here, Gillian, hold this. On my signal, push it.”
“Hmm.. No, I think there’s more to it. This is too convenient. If I was them, I’d lay traps right… here. There - Knew it.”
“Vanguard? Me? Sorry, I wouldn’t know what to do with a sword. I’m an arcane mage. Yes. Really. No, I’m not “joshing” you. Yes, I know I’m tall - And before you ask: Yes, the weather is great up here.”
Feminine, Late 20s
Backstory: A soft spoken cleric and devout follower of the Twin Saints, Emi seeks to extend the same salvation that the church offered her through the turmoils of her early life to others throughout the land. She is guided by both this sense of heavenly duty to the church’s dogma of equilibrium and her own desire to be the embodiment of a nurturing soul.
Personality: Emi is a very motherly person, giving the impression to be more mature than her age would imply - though even then she is on the older side of the party age scale. Demure and feminine for the most part, peace-loving and well-spoken. Despite this, she is self-assured. One of her flaws is that she sometimes oversteps some boundaries in her attempt to take care of her party members. Most of the time it's welcomed or at least tolerated, though it can lead to some tension or explosive moments if spirits are already agitated.
Voice Quality/Tone: Soft, demure, sensible and sisterly. Conflict-averse, graceful. Not a push-over despite all of that.

"A disquiet soul rings hollow in prayer. Might you not speak with me of what ails you, instead of... moping back here?"
“Mourn not what you couldn’t do - Lay your eyes on what can yet be done.”
“Go with grace, go without - As long as you go.”
Masculine, 20
Backstory: Seon is a martial artist hailing from an island mostly isolated from the woes of the mainland. Having heard many stories from his grandparents, the village elders, and his former master about how Yokai and Mortals used to live in harmonic coexistence and cooperation, Seon grew up yearning for that peace to one day return to the world. He is frustrated by the constant war, wishing they would just speak to each other and find a common-ground.
He now finds himself wandering the mainland in search for his Master who left on a pilgrimage, little more than a cryptic riddle serving as his guide through strange lands.
Personality: Seon is extremely passionate about all things in life and isn't afraid to show his conviction. This results in him also being very opinionated and hotheaded, not afraid to butt heads with someone he fundamentally disagrees with. That same stubbornness and passion also extend the other way, making him an extremely ride-or-die kind of friend who would sooner die than leave someone behind.
Voice Quality/Tone: Energetic, Hot-headed, Confrontational, and Loud.
Language and Accents: Korean accents preferred if possible. Not required.

“Swift as a coursing river, strong as a crashing wave.”
(somber voice) “We can go back to what we had... Before the yokai went mad.”
“Seriously? How do you mess this– Fine, I’ll deal with them, you go on ahead!”
Feminine, Young Adult (18-25 ish)
Backstory: A young woman who became a witch’s apprentice after being rejected and ostracised for her misunderstood obsession with the morbid and taboo. Under the witch, she learned about occult magic and was able to indulge in her obsessions and curiosity. After coming of age, as is tradition, she was sent out to carve her own path as a witch. For the most part, she doesn’t roam into cities and continues her studies in swamps, forests, and nature in general - specifically decay, poisons, and curses.
Personality: Diana is incredibly macabre and weird. She's got a fascination with death – less so as a maniacal or megalomaniac villain – more in an "I just think it's neat" kind of weird hobby obsession. She KNOWS she's perceived as creepy or weird, but doesn't care and is quite unabashedly herself.
She's also a bit of a prankster, happy to scare a teammate by placing a skeleton's hand on their shoulder or by pretending to talk to a skull. She's also the type to say out-of-pocket things - sometimes on purpose and sometimes because she's just Like That ™. She isn’t malicious, just amused by her interests.
Voice Quality/Tone: Slightly raspy and a little nasal, breaks voice now and then. Middle-pitched. High, shrill pitches are reserved for laughter. Speaks matter-of-fact and nonchalant manner, even about morbid topics.

“Happy birthday! You're one step closer to death. Congrats.”
"I won't say "See you tomorrow" because that would be like predicting the future, and I'm pretty sure I can't do that yet."
(a more quiet, creepy giggle, as if enjoying as macabre thought) [Please feel free to submit as many takes as you like]
Feminine, Young Adult (20s to Early 30s)
Backstory: Young elvish mage who survived the misguided persecution and elimination of her clan during her childhood. She spent the years since this tragedy rebuilding a semblance of life, eventually honing her skills enough to make a living through adventuring and tasks provided by the guild. She has taken to traveling alongside (reluctantly at first) her partner Elizabeth.
With incredible potential, she is upset that her talents are unused.
Personality: Snarky and not one to mince her words. She has very little in the way of a filter and often spouts out her opinion on matters, whatever it may happen to be, without giving much in the way of consideration for how what she says may be taken by those around her. Likewise, she does a very poor job of hiding or tempering her emotions. She does reel back on the snark and sarcasm when talking with those she feels an earnest connection with.
Voice Quality/Tone: Snarky and sarcastic, can come across as coarse at times. Less annoying, more annoyed at others. She’s over it.

“Yeah whatever, I’m not exactly about to waste too much of my own precious time digging into nonsensical claims of yours.”
(Panic over an injured party member) “J-Just… stop talking! Conserve every last bit of energy you can!”(Panic over an injured party member) “J-Just… stop talking! Conserve every last bit of energy you can!”
(Stern, commanding, giving an order she expects to be followed) “So, engage it, but whatever you do you must not destroy it until I say so.”
Feminine, [Technically Age 1, appears Mid 20s]
Backstory: Eliza is an android, with her creator intending for her to not just imitate life but to carry it. She’s built with a Soul Anchor (a battery made out of a yokai’s soul), hoping that that would help her become truly alive. For that end, she was handed over to a powerful businesswoman, who then paired her with her protegé, so that she can watch over her student and give both of them opportunities to learn from each other and the world.
Personality: Eliza appears perfectly expressionless on the outside. She also struggles to be truly and fully aware of her own emotions. Eliza is loyal to the point of detriment and it is not quite clear if it's programming or her own will. She’s driven to understand her creators words and find her own purpose one day and wants to find out if she has a soul on her own.
Voice Quality/Tone: Monotonous, even voice. While she sounds perfectly human, she is still an android. Calm, collected, analytical. Matter-of-factly. Delivers quips and occasional sass without any tonal indication, making it easy to miss.

“There is no need for concern - I’m equipped to handle the most probable situations.”
“Understood. I’ll create an opening for you. I advise you to keep a certain distance, however.”
“There’s no need to apologize. Taking care of you is not much harder than taking care of a child.”
Masculine, Middle-Aged (35-45)
Backstory: Caine is a special detective in the Special Aether Investigation Unit (SAI Unit) - whose job is to make sure that forbidden practices and dangerous knowledge are monitored and suppressed. He’s one of the better agents they have and specializes in investigative fieldwork and interrogation. Unkempt hair, beard stubbles, smoker.
Personality: Caine is a very low-energy character. Very much “exhausted dad” vibes. He actively tries to be efficient in what he does, not out of passion but because he tries to avoid doing any more work than he has to to achieve his goals. Despite his jaded and weary attitude, he has a strong sense of duty and justice, even if it’s buried underneath his weariness and nonchalant attitude.
Voice Quality/Tone: Course and weathered, but clear and concise, a slow-paced rhythm. Voice is not too low, but it is aged. Methodical, explaining, always sounds like he knows more than you, and probably does.

“Now, if you would kindly put away your weapons and come with me, I would greatly appreciate that.”
“I wouldn’t mess with that if I were you. I was told to shoot you if you booked it, and I don’t want all that paperwork on my hands. And, uh, don’t bother with the key at my neck - it’s fake.”
“My tie? What about my tie- oh. Eh. (sighs) We’re not at the office, so no one can get on my case about it. The perks of fieldwork.”
Masculine, Late 20s
Backstory: Seven is a chimerean (a mortal race mixed with Yokai ancestry) thief and charlatan. He believed himself more cunning and clever than the people he pissed off over the years - especially thanks to his yokai ancestry granting him the gift of being able to see the aetherial signature and its trails other people leave. Ultimately, he was beaten in his cat-and-mouse game by Caine - who put him behind bars. When a special, top-secret investigation into the rumors of a strictly forbidden art being used was launched, Caine approached him and promised him temporary freedom if he used his gift to help him - under the condition that he was kept on a short leash (metaphorically speaking).
Personality: Seven is a charismatic and cocky charlatan, combining social wit and his instincts to guide him. He likes the thrill of almost being caught, almost as if gambling. Manipulation and social navigation come naturally to him. He’s outgoing, even flamboyant in some cases, and occasionally generous towards the less fortunate, enjoying the gratitude he receives in return.
Voice Quality/Tone: Suave, soft-spoken. Almost always in a playful tone if the situation is not out of control or dire. Stresses words and uses intonation consciously to convey subtext and implied meanings. He is sly, without being slimy or unsettling.

"You’re a smart guy, so I don’t have to tell you that we both stand to gain from… a little goodwill, I hope."
“Never tell me the odds. I already know ‘em.”
Masculine, Mid 50’s
Backstory: Dominic is a gruff, but gentle veteran adventurer and the leader of his town’s Adventuring guild, and even though he is not the mayor, he holds social authority equal to the mayor through earned respect over the years.
Personality: He’s intimidating, but kind, always putting his people’s safety above all. While he wants to help the party, he will not do so until more dire issues threatening his town are resolved. He does not expect outside help, and is almost perplexed when the party offers to help out.
Voice Quality/Tone: Deep voice, gruff, but comes across as soft despite that.
