Sonic X: The Metarex Arc (Sonic X Season 3 Redub)

Project Overview

Sonic X: The Metarex Arc is a full re-dub of Sonic X Season 3. It's meant to be the complete replacement for the 4kids dub that faithfully retranslates from the Japanese version. It also adds a few small bonuses and quality of life improvements to the show. We're only doing season 3 and not the rest of the show, but this project has 26 episodes.


All characters have officially been listed! Remember, it is EXTREMELY important that you read the character descriptions. That way, you know exactly what you're going for before you audition. I've written them to the best of my ability to describe what kind of voice you should be going for so please read them, as they're necessary for understanding your audition.

REQUIREMENTS


XLR Microphone. If you're using a USB microphone then the audio must be clean and contain no background noise. Any audio containing background noise will most likely be ignored. I also ask that you have professional audio software such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, or even a basic Windows Audio Recorder. As long as your mic is being recorded and can be exported into a .wav file, I'm happy. Avoid peaking the microphone. If I hear or see any peaks, I will likely ignore the audition. I want to trust that the audio received can be heard without any major issues or noticeable errors.

Recommendation: I recommend you watch clips of Sonic X season 3 in Japanese and character moments for the characters you are auditioning for. This is so that you understand exactly what you're going for. I allow quite a bit of wiggle room as long as I can hear the voice and can see that character with that voice.

  • Roles Being Chosen Today

    Hello, quick update. Due to the listing of the project being unlisted today, I will be choosing roles today. Any roles without auditions, or without auditions that have followed the requirements or have lower quality auditions will be left up for more to audition.

    If you have been picked for your role, you will be linked the Discord at my most available hour.     Hello again, thanks for following the project. There have been a lot of auditions flooding in and I have enjoyed listening to them. The deadline will most likely remain in June but it is possible that it could be pushed up so please keep an eye on that. I will update you if this happens.

    Last but not least, I want to list a couple of issues with the auditions I have been seeing. It seems that people haven't been reading the requirements in the project description. Please read them before auditioning. Also, please do not audition as a character as a joke. While it can be funny, I need legitimate auditions that I can consider giving roles to.     Hello, and thanks again for taking some time to read this! I'm extremely grateful for the auditions coming in as quickly as they have. I cannot gurantee that you'll get the roles you audition for, but there's always a chance you'll be picked for the role! I wanted to quickly as if you could share the Casting Call page online to other voice actors so that more auditions can come in. That way, I'm given more to work with. I'm very excited to choose who gets their roles, and I've already heard some really good ones! More roles have been added to the page, so make sure you audition for those too! There are still a couple characters left to add, but not many. They're mostly minor characters that only have a couple lines.

    Currently, I'm working on creating a YouTube channel where trailers, bloopers, behind the scenes, and the rest of the series will be uploaded. Once this drops, I'll put a link to it in a future update on this website. I recommend trying to keep up with updates on this if you're still interested in voicing any of the characters.

    DISCORD?
    There will most likely be a Discord server for this series. Once I've decided on this and created the server, I'll release it into the same update as the YouTube update. The reason why I'm hesitant to use Discord is due to some complications I've had with the website and their policies. However, I'm willing to put that aside so that we can all work together to create something special. Also it just makes communication much easier.

    Hi, I wanted to quickly thank those who have recently auditioned for your desired roles. This is going to be a pretty big project that I'm very excited for! Roles will be decided on the day of the deadline, that way every audition can have a chance to be heard.

    Sonic X Season 3 has 26 episodes and the plan is to dub the entire season. I currently have no plans to create a dub of the first two seasons, but if the Metarex Arc redub ends up doing well, I could reconsider. It would have to do with whether the VA's chose are up for it, and if not, then the answer would be a likely no.

    I've been wanting to make a real dub of Sonic X Season 3 for a long time and my sister has been wanting to watch Sonic X season 3 for awhile, but she doesn't like subs and the official dub of Sonic X is absolutely horrible. So, this is kind of meant to be a birthday gift to her, that way she can watch a dub that's actually good. If you're auditioning for any roles, I highly recommend that you listen to the Japanese voices and try and go for something similar to that, instead of the dub's voices, as the dub voice acting is just fundamentally flawed.

    Once again, I very much appreciate the auditions and desire to voice in the series! I'm excited to help direct your voices when the auditions are over. I'm writing the dub to match the lip flaps, I'm doing the sound design, and I'm adding in some deleted scenes or additions that would've benefitted the original. It'd be a disaster if I tried to do everything on my own, so I appreciate the auditions greatly. Let's make the dub that 4kids couldn't!

Pale Bay Leaf is like a mix of that cold and calculated voice with a slight millitant aggressiveness. I'm looking for a good in-between of that character, but make sure not to lean too into the aggressive voice. The kind of voice I'm looking for is something both boastful, yet relaxed.

Molly is a headstrong leader and a tough woman who is also kind and respectful. She's willing to be aggressive when she needs to be, but soft and kind as well. The official dub of her is atrocious, don't go for that voice at all. Instead, go for that soft-spoken and young teenage voice. Molly is very much a teenager and the leader of her rebellion against the Metarex. Because of her history and pain seeing the planet she grew up on be turned into rubble, she's the most passionate of her team and wouldn't dare give up in the face of the Metarex.

Cosmo is from space who's entire race was killed by the Metarex (Meh-Tuh-Rex). She's soft-spoken and kind but still loves having fun, but she still has an air of somberness and rage to her deep down due to the death of her family. Cosmo has a lot of moments of joy, but just as many moments of sadness, crying, and rage. I'm looking for a voice that captures every bit of that and can yell or scream when needed. For this one, make sure to avoid what the official dub did. The official made her sound somewhat old and exagerated her politeness. I think you should still sound young, but noticeably polite.

  • Hello there. I am who they call "Cosmo." You're Sonic The Hedgehog, right?

Charmy is an extremely energetic kid who annoys everybody around him. He's loud, obnoxious, and only mostly innocent. I'm looking for a voice that's incredibly young, hyper, and high pitched. He's just an extremely playful 5 year old little brother that never understands what's happening around him; he loves antagonizing people even if they're doing something extremely important. I'd watch clips of Charmy The Bee on YouTube to get an idea of the character.

Bokkun (Bo-Coon) is the messenger robot for Doctor Eggman as well as a tiny butler. He's meant to be like a cute little boy, so go for a voice like that. I recommend listening to the Japanese voice on YouTube to get a general idea of what you're going for. The official dub's was terrible, far too high pitched and annoying. Sounded extremely forced. Bokkun is meant to have an adorable child-like voice.

Earthia is Cosmo's mother, and the deceased leader of the Cosmo tribe. She has a deep sadness inside of her and has very many scenes of her crying. I recommend listening to her Japanese voice actress online, to get exactly what you should be going for. The official dub voice is just terrible though, and I'm unsure if that's due to directing or lack of effort. In the official dub, she sounds much too robotic and emotionless. Make sure NOT to go for that.

This one's interesting.

I'm actually not really looking for any impersonations that mimic how Vector sounds now. I'm actually looking for a voice that embraces the vocal idea of what Vector sounds like in Sonic Heroes. Not exactly like Heroes, but something with that idea. Having that slight gruffness in his voice is still fine, but don't overdo it. I want something that's not hard on the ears to listen to. Anyways, he's the leader of The Chaotix Detective Agency who's always determined to achieve his goals. He also has a not-so-subtle crush on Vanilla, Cream's mother. Whenever Cream's mother asks him for help, he gets extremely excited and blushy. 

  • (On the phone) Yes yes, this is The Chaotix... (blushes and gets excited) OH, Cream's Mother!!

  • Not this time! We're gonna deliver Cream's stuff even IF we take another beating!

  • Once we accept a job, we finish it no matter who's in our way! That's what makes The Chaotix the absolute BEST!

Tails is Sonic's best buddy and the brains of the team. He's a young and aspiring boy who looks up to Sonic and tries to outdo himself with every task he sets. He can still fight when needed but his main role is engineering and science. I'm looking for a voice that can capture a "young kind boy" without getting too young. I'm talking more, "12 years old" rather than 8.

Amy is madly in love with Sonic, so much so that she is willing to do whatever it takes for his love even if the relationship is literally never going to happen. She's headstrong and obsessive over her goal of marrying Sonic but is still a good person. She's willing to put herself in harms way for her friends and cares deeply about the world. But you wouldn't be wrong to question whether she puts Sonic over the world... spoiler warning she totally does.


I'm looking for a cutesy and girly voice that captures the bubbly nature of Amy. Also don't be shy to add an aggressiveness to her voice for lines that would need it. 

  • It doesn't matter whether he's our enemy or not! Just rescue Tails and Cosmo! Got it?!

  • Don't worry about it Chris. Sometimes Sonic needs to be captured. So that he can see just how much I love him!

Doctor Eggman is a narcissistic mega-genius with an IQ over 300. He's calculated and egotistical, but has plenty of moments where he's very goofy. I'm looking for a voice that can have that nice inbetween of menacing, yet slightly goofy. It doesn't need to be an impression of Mike Pollock, just something believable from this character.

Shadow is a cold, calculated, and stern character. He has a morality deep down within him, as well as a troubled past. But unlike Sonic, he is strictly focused on his goals. Even if that occasionally causes him to put others emotions last. I'd like a voice that captures the whispery and quiet voice of Shadow that can still raise his voice when need-be. Shadow still has a heart, but he keeps it wrapped up in his mysterious vibe. Shadow needs a soft-spoken and whispery voice that is still capable of raising his voice, or even yelling.

Cream is the nicest character in Sonic, and the youngest. She cares for her mother and her friends and loves to bake. Not to say that she can't fight, but she doesn't fight as often as the others of the group. I'm looking for a voice that is just super young, cute, and purely innocent. If you can do that, then you've absolutely murdered the official dub.The official is so bad, it's actually pain on my ears to listen to. Avoid trying to sound like the official dub by all means in this case.

Vanilla is Cream's mother. She's not super old but she's very relaxed and should have a warm and kind voice to her. The official dub failed by trying to make her an old lady. She's a sweet and warm maternal figure. She ain't old.

Espio is a relaxed ninja who works with The Chaotix. I'm looking for a voice that's relaxed but not hesitant to yell when the script calls for it. I'd say try going for a voice that's "similar" to Shadow's, but not quite as broody or whispery. Just something deeper in tone.

Dark Oak is the main villain. He's got a cold, dead voice to him but will raise his voice when need be. He has a rage inside of him and a hatred of "the beasts," as he puts it. No, he is not a robot, so avoid a robotic voice. Dark Oak is a character that

truly believes that he is in the right. That "the beasts" are disgusting animals that will destroy the universe and that his solution to restart the universe with no beasts alive is the only good solution. 

  • You're weak. Just hand the Chaos Emeralds over.

  • My odds of winning... they're low if I directly confront him.

  • This is a message to the galaxy. The Emeralds have scattered across space. Find them, and bring them to me.

Black Narcissus rarely gets angry and is very narcissistic. He has no fear or any semblence of rage, to the point where it's almost creepy. He just talks like he's having a normal conversation, despite his twisted and narcissistic morality. I have a link to a video that demonstrates a similar voice as to what I'm looking for. I'll add a link to this description. Just like the other Metarex, he's cold and calculated. Maybe even the most calculated of the Metarex, as he's quite literally calculating all of the data he can get.

Decoe is one of Eggman's lackeys. He operates machinery and constantly argues with the other robots. For him, a high pitched, expressive robot voice would work. I don't mind you leaning into what the official dub did. 

  • Looks delicious! After we drink the rice wine, let's grill and eat the rice cakes!

  • Huh?! We're "also" bodyguard robots?! What're we SUPPOSED to be?!

  • We can only operate it because Dr. Eggman builds SUCH good machines!

Bocoe is another robot lackey to Eggman, and just like Decoe, he's meant to be the comedy of the show. Like I said before, going for something similar to the official dub is completely fine in this case. 

  • Now we can't use their parts!

  • None of this would've happened if Bokkun hadn't brought us that buffet!

  • This is a fine example of the Japanese phrase, "Giving salt to the enemy!"
