Project: Adriatic Ace

Project: Adriatic Ace

Project Overview

ABOUT: One of my favorite films growing up is an animation called, Porco Rosso, and I now find myself in a position where I can begin work on some projects of my own. Starting with a heavily inspired animated short that I'm temporarily calling, Adriatic Ace, with a runtime of seven minutes.

SUMMARY: During a time of war around the Adriatic Sea, a group of hostile aircraft manage to break through allied air defenses. With few options, the Marco sends a distress call to a retired pilot, who's living on a small island between the civilian target and the inbound bombers. After giving his daughter a brief farewell, the old pilot, Ace, readies his plane for one last flight.

CONTENTS: This animation contains the word "Jackass," however there is no further vulgar language, or sexual themes. There is mild violence and reference to death. However, all deaths are implied, for example, planes getting shot down, and or exploding. There is one scene with blood, but is minimal. I'd consider this animation to be in the range of a hard PG-13.

VA TALENT: I won't make ridiculous demands of you, or take more time from you than needed. However, I do ask that you have clean audio, use a quality microphone such as the Shure SM58, or better, and will grant a reasonable amount of retakes, with live direction if necessary.

PAYMENT: Payments will be paid using PayPal. Any advance payments will require an established portfolio to be considered. Full monetary details will be discussed with the successful candidates, prior to commitment.

DISCLOSURE:
Because this is a very small, self funded and debut animation, I want to keep the visuals confidential. However, successful candidates may have access to character sheets and storyboards. (Furthermore, successful candidates will be required to review a commission commencement agreement, which does specify terms of use, including limitations.) Additionally, candidates willing to show their face during a short interview, will have a much greater chance of being cast.

MATTEA
open
Paid: Flat Rate 175 USD

Mattea is the middle-aged daughter of Ace, the old pilot. Over the years she's grown tired of the needless waste of life due to the war, but those in power never listen to those with sense. Her husband, Marco, is an officer for air force, and has ben deployed for over a year, and now her father is leaving leave too. Her speech has become labored over time, there's no tears left. But with children of her own, she never completely gives into despair, because as long as there's a tomorrow, there's hope for a peaceful future.

Direction Notes: Slow, calm, and clear, as if telling a bedtime story to a child. Use your normal voice, this is an easy one to over act, and please vet your audio, it's no good if you're quiet as a mouse, or so loud the audio clips.

(The payment rate for this role is: $175 USD, per 250 words and, 3 retakes at my request, with live direction, if necessary. Full details will be discussed with successful candidates, prior to commitment. Be sure to have your portfolio or links to your supporting work on your CCC profile for me to review.)

ACE
open
Paid: Flat Rate 175 USD

Ace is an old man, he's short, stocky and cheeky. He was eighteen when he enlisted into the Italian air force in 1910, and after the great war he returned, changed. Now Ace finds playful bliss in almost everything, and whenever someone asks about his experience in the war, he bursts into a dismissing laughter. Ace is often getting into trouble, being prone to poke fun at things that most people would consider distasteful, but no matter how bleak the situation is, he always leans on a bright disposition, even if only a dim one.

Direction Notes: Marco is asking Ace to sacrifice his own life, for those in the city, including his own family. Both Marco and Ace know what's being asked, and Ace is trying to play it off with gallows humor. He's not worried about himself, he's worried about how his daughter's going to handle it. Mattea, Ace's daughter, is in her room down the hallway, and she doesn't know what her husband, Marco, is asking of her father, Ace.

(The payment rate for this role is: $175 USD, per 250 words and, 3 retakes at my request, with live direction, if necessary. Full details will be discussed with successful candidates, prior to commitment. Be sure to have your portfolio or links to your supporting work on your CCC profile for me to review.)

ACE: “Hm… Needing another bailout from us old codgers, aye?" MARCO: “Ace… I’m sorry.” (Ace smirks, while looking down the hallway.) ACE: “It’s not me who’s going to have to face Mattea, mate." (Ace lets out a reassuring chuckle.) ACE: "Besides, I find steel and gunfire far less frightening!”

I'm looking for a talented musician, songwriter, who'd be able to either touch-up and compose a song from the public domain, or write and compose completely original piece, something similar to, The Last Goodbye, by Billy Boyd. POPPY

Paid: Flat Rate 50 USD

This is a very late addition to the Casting Call. The reason being is that I've been heavily debating whether or not to cut this character entirely, however there is one scene that I can't let go of. (It's an early shot of Ace flying with Poppy, his six year old grand daughter, in the passenger seat with her arms out like bird's wings while laughing.) At this time Poppy has no other lines. For inspiration, think Anya from Spy x Family.

(The payment rate for this role is: $50 USD, for 3 takes of laughter, with live direction, if necessary. As this role could change to include additional lines, rates will then match Mattea and Ace. Be sure to have your portfolio or links to your supporting work on your CCC profile for me to review.)

Paid: Flat Rate 350 USD

Thought I'd try my luck before I purchase some libraries and do it myself. I'm looking for a Foley Artist for Adriatic Ace who can create fanciful but familiar sounds for a runtime of seven minutes. Because this role will likely require early access to the entire animation, only those with extensive portfolios and show their face will be considered, preferably with links to their socials or website on their CCC profile. If interested you can audition here publicly, privately, or through DMs. Regards, Rouce.
