MIRRORED Animated Thesis Film
Project Overview
Hello all!
I'm a current experimental animation major in my senior year creating my animated thesis film titled 'Mirrored'. Which is super exciting!
The film is about a rebellious 13 year old girl attending a strict catholic boarding school. While cleaning the school's basement as punishment, she finds a strange mirror that transports her into another world, where she's confronted with a copy of herself that isn't who she says she is.
The film's tone and style is inspired by projects such as Coraline, Twin Peaks, and Kaiba. It will feature predominantly 2D hand-drawn animation, with elements in stop-motion, and possibly paper-cutout. A proof of concept for the film will be finished May 2023 for graduation, and I'm hoping to submit it to film festivals and a later release on YouTube once the entire project is complete!
I'm aiming for 6 minutes in length or shorter, length to be settled once I can time the storyboards to the voice lines. I'm very excited to bring this student film to life with your help!

Francis is an unruly and brash middle schooler attending a strict private catholic school. She acts before she thinks, is quick to anger, and hates being bored more than anything else. When in her element, however, she's full of life, compassionate, and loyal to a fault. She wants to get away from her restrictive school life and follow her own rules. I imagine her voice in the lower register and rough around the edges but open to other interpretations.
This character will also include "Mirror Francis", her double, so range is a definite plus.

Witty, sarcastic, and manipulative, Mirror Francis is an ancient monster pretending to be Francis' Reflection in order to escape. She longs to be free and get revenge on the church who imprisoned her inside the mirror decades ago. She'll say just about anything to convince Francis to help her escape into the outside world.

Sister Esther is one of the head nuns in charge of Francis' school. She holds an intimidating presence and is strict and blunt with students. She believes its her duty to correct Francis and make her into a proper obedient student.
