Magical Eyes - Red is for Anguish (Unofficial Dub Patch)
Project Overview
Good Morning! Let's get started...
THE PROJECT
Magical Eyes - Red is for Anguish is a thrilling mystery visual novel revolving around a series of unfathomable incidents in a town.
I will be creating an Unofficial Dub Patch.
After talking to the publishers of the game, this project will have to include commentary.
(Please read the F.A.Q's below!)
REQUIREMENTS
- Please note that you will need to be comfortable with recording your lines live over Discord's voice call feature (Still using your software of choice, the call is for direction only).
- Please make sure your recording software can record in WAV and that you can change the bitrate and sampling rate of said recording.
- When auditioning, please use the microphone set-up that you'll be using for the project. Do not add any effects or make the recording any louder by adding loudness plugins or normalisation. Record your audition raw with the gain volume you've setup.
- Please note that characters may have between 200-400 lines each. If that seems like a lot for you, please avoid auditioning for this project. I have worked out the amount of time it may take for a voice actor to finish everything in 'CONTINGENCY PLANS' if you want my estimate. Thank you in advance...
- Please create a discord account for this project. I will be using Discord's 'Guild/Server' features for members of the project. This will allow me to contact everyone in one place and show members the project's progress. If you don't feel like creating one or don't feel comfortable using Discord for this project, again, please avoid auditioning. Thank you.
- This is important: Your microphone set-up must include either XLR or USB components. Please do not audition knowing you're only going to be using devices such as a built-in laptop microphone, headset/earphones or a phone to record your lines. Direct from XLR or USB only! (XLR is preferred, of course.)
PROJECT PREPARATION
Project Run-time: 4 months.
1. Depending on schedules.
Scripts: Completed.
1. All scenarios have been written out and displayed correctly on documents.
BGM & Effects: All.
1. I have all of the BGM and Effects accounted for.
MY GOALS & PROMISES
- To be as transparent as possible with all members of the project. You are investing your time in this as well.
- To record the lines before placing them with the game.
- To keep the audio from the original source as consistent as possible. This includes volume, BGM and effects.
- Once the Fan-dub is edited and ready to be released, I will upload the series all at once.
- Considering that this is going to be in a Let's play format and uploaded to YouTube, Uploaded games may or may not be monetised. If it does get monetised, I won't be keeping 100% of the revenue. I will chase up anyone who participated, giving them a share.
- I appreciate many of the Let's Play Fan-dub's before this one. However, what upsets me is the lack of sound control and sound effects consistency in a few of them. Developers prepare thousands of code just to stamp these moments with BGM or sound effects and take care that it starts/stop at certain moments. From it's volume to the moment it fades out. I promise to keep these mixed in well.
- As soon as a voice actor has finished their scenario, I will be mixing and editing the fan-dub right after. Each scenario will be completed as we go. Members of the project will be able to see the efforts of their hard work being worked on right in front of them in the Discord server.
- I will be making sure that the project runs smoothly. From project management to team management. Not only with the goals I've listed but with how fast work gets done.
- EDIT: The YouTube account has officially been made and will debut on this project once released.
CONTINGENCY PLANS
- This project will not be difficult at all. The only trouble that could arise is lines not being done or voice actors leaving the project. If this occurs, standard measures will be put in place, replacing any of the former voice actors with new ones.
- Characters have between 200-400 lines each. This means if you're the type of voice actor to finish 10-20 lines in one day, but you only have two days a week to put towards recording them, it could take up to 2-4 months for you to complete everything depending on your schedule. One day a week is the minimum amount of time you should be dedicated to this project for it to go smoothly.
F.A.Q.S
-
Why do I have to be directed over a voice call? Can't I just do the lines in my own time?- While I respect the idea of allowing the voice actor to record their own lines, it wouldn't be professional to allow one person to record over 100+ lines only to find out that they need to redo over...FIFTY of them. It's more preferable for everyone to record their lines ONCE and only ONCE so there isn't any time being wasted. I also encourage other voice actors to do so as in the voice industry, directors opt for the same thing when it's overseas. I don't run my own company, but I see it as allowing voice actors to experience something close to how it would be like in the real world of voice acting. Some directors even bring other people along! So you'll always be in front of somebody while you're recording lines.
ADDITIONAL INFO
- Yes, this project will be created by one person. Another person may be editing it but only for YouTube release. The majority of the work will be done by me.
- I am currently studying Music Production and Technology at university so I do understand the fundamentals of sound and audio editing.
- (I aspire to become an Audio Engineer for Animation and Video Games. Being a fan and all... '>x<')
- I have been creating casting calls since 2014. I have some project management experience online.
- Education will not get in the way of the project's progress. This is a promise.
-
Easter Egg: Everyone who participates receives a free steam key of the game and the dubbed files to play with.
Hopefully, I have answered any doubts you may have, auditioning for this project.
Thanks again.

@everyone https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmBiCgUxgmwAtAotPQTZy_-3asGd-f4ZK This announcement will be my last on this page as I have finished uploading all of the scenes! The videos are scheduled to be uploaded once a day until the 23rd of December. I will be premiering the ending as a commemoration of the project finally coming to a close! Again, thank you to all who participated in this project. You have all helped to see my vision through. I can't express my gratitude enough. We have been working on a new unofficial English dub project! (We're all very quiet about it right now) The new project will be published on the Calizaworks channel. If you haven't subscribed yet and you're curious about what's to come, here's the channel link once again: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMFw562cdQokeW5wd5Klseg Your support will help the channel grow! Hey all! Merry Christmas and happy new year! So this is just a quick update to inform you all that I have honestly overshot the deadline by a couple of months. QA is taking longer than anticipated. We're hoping to finish in 4 more months but I will update the project page if that doesn't happen. Yes, we're in QA stages now. We're so close, yet it feels so far!
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 351
Line Direction:
0. Two kids describe their day out together. It sounds like a couple thing. It makes you a little gleeful, almost falling into gentle, short laughter at the end of the line.
1. Someone told you that doing something to get a reaction would be hilarious. It isn't and you don't find it funny either.
2. A playful warning. You really want to tell this guy what happened during your week off from 'High School'. Try to sound less as though you're teasing the guy and more as though you're telling him something he should really hear. Playfully, of course, keeping the information a secret until he asks.
Character Description:
Age: 16
A girl with beautiful long black hair.
She shared the same classroom with Yuu since Junior high, and is his only female friend at school. Even though their interactions are limited to school, she has known him longer than anyone else except for the Disobeyers working with him.
Her parents are both well and alive, but she lives on her own in an apartment near the school because of family circumstances.
That sounds like something a grown-up couple would do.
Amusing? ...You're pretty blunt.
But let me warn you. You might have to skip gym for a whole week, because what I'm going to tell you will knock you off your feet.
Vocal Range: Medium/Low
Lines: 418
Line Direction:
0. You say this line with confidence. The protagonist surely wants to know what two lovebirds were doing in the park at midnight. You're making it seem as though the protagonist is as pervy as you and you're giving him shoulder nudges as though you're approving of his thought-process.
1. Turns out, he wasn't being pervy at all. You question his strangeness. You're utterly shocked that you were wrong about the protagonist.
2. You reply with some condolences. This situation seems really harsh to you. Besides, you're a little annoyed there wasn't much evidence at the crime scene to begin with. Well, important evidence.
Character Description:
Age: Mid-40's
The manager of the ramen shop with the nickname of "Noodle Graveyard", which has been named after all the horrible dishes served there. His true identity is a highly skilled Disobeyer. In a regular company structure, he would be in position to supervise Yuu, Suzunari and many others, representing the Disobeyers in the region.
He Is best friends with Yuu's and Jun's fathers and treats their children like his own.
I know what you wanna ask... You wanna know what the couple were doing in the park past midnight, don't you?
For real? What kind of teenager are you?
The victim must've been fighting back desperately. The floor was covered with too much scattered goods and blood to pick out any footprints.
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 397
Line Direction:
0. You're passing on getting something delivered to you. You then make a slight remark that your house is too far away from the shop anyway. This makes you chuckle while saying it.
1. You're a little creeped out by Oyassan. You just imagine an old man crawling outside of your front door with food.
2. Your love for Marron knows no bounds. If someone questions your opinions on her, you go all out. Make me believe that this woman's beauty is truly immortal.
Character Description:
Age: Mid-20's
One of Yuu's co-workers and someone like an older brother to him. His public face is a silver accessory designer who's attained a certain level of popularity, but he claims that that's nothing more than a hobby.
Although he dresses like a woman, it's merely his fashion style. He dotes madly on the woman named Kuri who's his partner in both private and work.
I'll pass. Besides, your shop is quite far from our love nest, Pops.
That sounds like a scene from some horror movie.
What a dummy. The ultimate beauty is immortal and beyond time.
Vocal Range: Medium/Low
Lines: 361
Line Direction:
0. You've been having a hard time at work. People are giving you judging looks. You're venting with the protagonist, making it seem like the day has been really rough on you.
1. Stay serious. Your love for animals is a serious matter. You tell the protagonist as though this information is important to you even though there's more important conversations to be had.
2. Again, stay serious. Azuma has a strange admiration for animals. Downplay this line as though you're just telling the protagonist that it'll be okay if you had to wait longer.
Character Description:
Age: 29
A police officer cooperating with the Amakawas. He belongs to the first division of the criminal investigation department which deals with murders and injuries. He is one of the coordinators with the Disobeyers in the police. His high abilities to reason and analyse have gained huge trust from Yuu.
Since he has to face people's malice on both sides of his jobs, he spends his private time without contacting others.
*Sigh*... People at the station make faces at me. They think I'm skipping out on the hard jobs.
Koalas are thought to spend 20 hours a day slacking off by sleeping or resting.
Not a problem. I was watching pigeons. I could've waited one more hour.
Vocal Range: Medium/High
Lines: 320
Line Direction:
0. This isn't in rage but to push someone aside. You love to make a profit and be nice around paying customers but since Kashiwaba didn't want to pay, you pushed him aside, giving him no more attention. Picture it as though you're insulting someone for being a smart-ass.
1. A continuation of the first line. You have a way of changing moods depending on who you're talking to. In this case, it's the protagonist. He's questioned your aggression in the first line and you're smiling, reassuring him that you're just saying it so he'll feel obligated to buy something.
2. Like talking to a small animal or child who has been injured. It's soft. Gentle. Reassuring the person you're speaking to feels better just because of what you've said.
Character Description:
Age: 14
The young owner of the mysterious shop called Nanashi-do. He loves money. Due to the shop name, people address him as Nanashi. He is so proud of his business that he never tries to rip his customers off or make underhanded deals.
His power allows him to understand the thoughts and emotions within objects, which has resulted in his preference for hand-made products and tools that have been used for a long time.
You can go screw yourself!
Come on, this is just a silly little sales pitch.
The one who started you on this path and the one who twisted you are both gone.
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 271
Line Direction:
0. You were confident that no one could see your injuries. When the protagonist points it out, you're kinda amazed but of course, it's no surprise to you. The protagonist is badass.
1. You feel as though other people are judging your strength. You're not too surprised, you had your reasons for "not using 100% of your power".
2. You're describing the scene at the alter. Your confidence in the information is apparent. You know what you saw at the alter and you're making sure the others know how dangerous the situation was.
Character Description:
Age: Mid-20's
A man of uncertain age working for the Disobeyers' intelligence department. Apart from gathering information on incidents caused by Variants, he also protects those involved in them.
He is a maniac who finds the best thing in life to be forging his mind and body. Also, he is a fighting maniac who's always on the lookout for chances to test his strength.
Good lord. I was trying to pretend I was fine, but you even pinpointed the places.
You're shocked that I couldn't bring it down, huh?
That was hell. There was a pile of the missing people's bones.
Vocal Range: Medium/High
Lines: 260
Line Direction:
0. Chiharu questioned your opinions. You're trying to push the fact that you DID just go watch a movie and get ice-cream with her.
1. You were just kidding about a statement you said before. For the next part: "I know it's...", please sound sincere, understanding and more mature. Jun is pretty grown up for his age.
2. You're grinning mischievously, knowing that you found out a secret. You reassure the protagonist that you won't tell his Aunt. But you're DEFINITELY telling Shizuku. Nishishishi is a small "Teeheehee" under your breath.
Character Description:
Age: 11
A little boy whose remarks perplex the grown-ups around him. He is loved by many Disobeyers working in area around where he lives.
His mother has been dead for some years, which puts him under the Amakawas' wing whenever his father has to leave town for someplace he can't take his son to. Jun has spent so much time with the Amakawas that he's grown close to them.
His father is a well-known, four-star Disobeyer.
Eehh, but all we did with you was see the movie and get ice cream.
Nishishi, just kidding. I know it's something only you can do.
I'll keep it a secret from Aunt. But I'm telling Shizuku.
Vocal Range: Medium/High
Lines: 202
Line Direction:
0. You adore Jun quite a bit. He's complimented you so you try to compliment him back. Although it just sounds a little awkward and soft as you're quite embarrassed.
1. You're asking the protagonist a special, super secret question for a special, super secret reason. It's quite quick and to the point. Take a small pause at "Well,"
2. Her little catchphrase. You were just joking around about something you said before.
Character Description:
Yuu Amakawa's well-mannered little sister. She has been childhood friends with Jun and is always with him.
She acts active and cheerful in front of the people she trusts, such as her family or Pops.
She knows Chiharu has a crush on Yuu and is rooting for her.
I-I think Sakamoto is cool.
Well, what hairstyle do you find prettiest?
Nishishishi, just kidding.
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 101
Line Direction:
0. You're excited because you get to become a Spy (almost) like in the movies.
1. You've gone through about 4 people trying to contact Chiharu. You say this line a little agitated. Similar to how someone might come off as God-ish and you reply "Who do you think you are? The pope?!"
2. Chiharu thinks you called her just to complain. You reassure her that you wouldn't be calling if it wasn't important.
Character Description:
Age: 17
A boy who was going to the same school as Yuu until half a yew ago. He left school for a particular reason, but it wasn't because he caused trouble or anything there, so he still maintains good relationships with his ex-classmates.
He has a cheerful personality, liking to laugh and make people laugh.
Holy crap, that makes both of us like characters in a spy movie.
A princess? Are you some kind of princess?
I wouldn't call a girl other than my girlfriend for such a petty reason. I'm well-known for my love for her!
Vocal Range: Medium/Low
Lines: 168
Line Direction:
0. You're about to tell Rin something needed for the investigation. It's pretty laughable and ridiculous for what it is but you hold a serious and stern tone as you say it.
1. You're a little disappointed that you couldn't get Rin to help. Almost as though you've lost the only opportunity you had to find help with your case.
2. You're tired and out of breath. You make a witty remark due to how limited you are in combat.
Character Description:
A man whose quiet life was shattered after he happened to come across the doll. To pay for his own guilt, he chose to spend his life fighting the doll.
During his investigation to identify the doll, he met a lot of people connected with the victims. Their grief and tears gave him another purpose to fight against the doll.
But I can tell this isn't ordinary... What I'm going to tell you now, it's way off the wall. I hope you won't laugh.
How disappointing.
...I probably should've picked kendo.
Vocal Range: Medium/Low
Lines: 77
Line Direction:
0. You can't imagine Rin knowing how bars are since he's never been to one. You're trying to explain to Rin what type of bar you frequent in the most simplest way possible without confusing him.
1.You're trying to be modest while you speak well of your friends. At "But I think", you're trying to tell Rin that you may think something else motivates your friends to pursue Tamura.
2. Someone is trying to judge you for being overweight. You're counteracting their statement with your own opinion of them. It's a witty statement but do not add any 'hmphs' or laughs in-between the line.
You and Kuri don't drink, so I think it's hard for you to imagine, but it's a darts bar, technically.
Forget about me, but they actually are great guys. But I think there's something else that motivates them about Tamura.
I don't think you have the right to judge people by their looks.
Vocal Range: Medium/Low
Lines: 48
Line Direction:
0. You feel a little stiff and tired from being in a hospital. Your arm is hurting you but don't add too much pain in the line.
1. It takes a little to remember what happened but shortly after, you remember and tell Azuma the information with confidence.
2. You're trying to be shown a little bit of sympathy for your situation but because what Azuma said sounded better, you're agreeing with what he said.
It still hurts like hell, and I can't move it at all, so I don't feel it's real yet.
That's, um... That's true, because it wasn't for sale.
My memory has been blurry since the attack... but now that you mention it, the doll might be expensive, yeah.
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 46
Line Direction:
0. You're trying to make Chiharu feel prettier if she bought something from you. It's half-assed flattery but try to sell the line as though you honestly believe that they are cute.
1. You honestly believe this. You try to play it off as a joke with a few chuckles in-between. Chuckle at "Well yeah," and at the start of "or that's what I like"
2. Chiharu gave you a compliment but because of how serious you are about your products, you're stern in warning her that you can't offer a discount for flattery.
I think any of these will look great on you, because you're such a cutie.
Well yeah, because I'm a famous designer in the making... or that's what I like to call myself.
You just made my day, but I can't offer any special discounts. We spend a lot of money and effort on our goods.
Vocal Range: Medium
Lines: 31
Line Direction:
0. You're telling a "detective" some information about your boss but you're trying to be careful of what you say. "Beating around the bush", if you will.
1. A continuation of the first line. You have some new information to share but you're hesitant to share it.
2. A continuation of the second line. You're sharing the information but you're almost gossiping behind the boss' back.
Character Description:
Age: 17+ (estimate)
A young but naive cashier who just wants to work and go home.
You might've noticed when you met him before, but when it comes to money he's kinda...
Um, can you keep this between us?
If the doll was worth a lot, he wouldn't have stored it in the backyard without proper care like that.
