JoshDamn OC Comic Dubs
Project Overview
While most people are familiar with my fan content, I want to dabble more in showcasing original content. And I want to team up with one of my artist friends Josh (known as JoshDamn on social medias) to bring his world of monsters to life. So I'm hosting a casting call for a handful of Josh's original characters for various dubs of his work.
Quick heads up: this is technically an unpaid gig. If this is a dealbreaker, we apologize in advance. But if you're okay with this condition, then we appreciate it
AUDITION GUIDELINES:
You must have a good quality microphone with an ideal recording enviorment (ie no background noise, voice reverb, ect) if you wish to audition
Your auditions must also be of equal quality (clear audio, no plosives, ect), so please be mindful of this as well
We're looking into making this a long term project, so only audition if you feel you can commit to the role.

Daughter of the famed "Dr. Screwloose", Shelly's a mad scientist in the making. Headstrong, impulsive, and a bit overconfident, she spends most of her days in her [dad's] lab, experimenting with all kinds of serums, gadgets, and creatures. Friendly ones, of course ... usually.
"Booksmart", but not really "anything else" smart, Shelly spent most of her life homeschooled, and doesn't know too much about the world outside the lab. Luckily, her friends are there to point her in the right direction! Whether or not she'll follow that direction is anyone's guess.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"So when I think of Shelley I think of Laura Bailey playing Maka from Soul Eater. But she’s also a little more brash than Maka, a little more of a wild child. excitable and energetic"

"Kendall, look! I gene-spliced a rat that can talk! He's speaking German!" (Excited, is super proud of her newest abomination)
"I'm sorry! It's just ... it's just you're so boring. You're SO boring, Mau. Like ... like I feel like you're not even trying sometimes, ya know? Be real, you were phoning that last lecture in." (being blunt and honest about how her teacher is doing her job)
"Dude, Kendall, c'mon! Switch brains with me, dude! It'll be so based, c'mon!" (Anxious, she really wants to try her newest invention on Kendall)
The most mature of the squad (and the designated "mom friend"), Chloe's got an eye for style, and is always up on the latest trends or hottest gossip. While she can be a bit vain and critical, it always comes from a place of sincerity. After all, as the most "socially conscious" of the group, it's her duty to better her peers (even when they don't ask for it).
Chloe's most distinguished feature is her snake hair. Each one has its own personality, and their gaze can petrify at will. They can be volatile, but Chole has a fairly good handle on the little guys. Just ... don't agitate them too much.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh)
"Chloe would have a more mature way of speaking, like a mom trying to gather unruly children or an older sibling who knows better than you. She’s not British, but in terms of voice direction she would be kinda posh, I think. Just like an air of 'I'm the mature one, I know what’s best' ”

"Alright boy, let's take this vampire from bleak to chic!" (Ready to give her friend a makeover, with help from her snake hair)
"Shelly, I saw the card, you can only move ONE purple space!" (Angry, annoyed that Shelly is disregarding the rules of their boardgame)
"Maybe I was a bit harsh. I think it's sweet that you handmade this. Let's see what you got--Amun, what is this?" (She starts off sweet, touched by this gesture of kindness, but then quickly switched to dry and blunt upon seeing what it is)
Super sweet and super kind, Amy beams with positivity. A ray of sunshine dressed in black and gray, she's the "heart of the group, keeping the peace and doing everything she can to make her friends happy. They're the most important things to her, and she'll do anything to protect them - no matter the cost.
Amy comes from a large, prestigous vampire family, and has nine siblings (five brothers, four sisters); and while she loves them dearly, she'd much rather hang with her friends than deal with family drama or vampire politics. She's also an inspiring artist, and is learning to take criticism without crying (it's not going well).
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"so in my head Amy sounds like Janice Kawaye doing the XJ9 voice from MLAATR. Higher pitch, also energetic, with a hint of sweet naivety"

"Aww, hey lil' guy! Wanna treat, huh? Whose a baby? Whose a scaley widdle baybee?" (feeding one of Chole's hair-snakes, she's being very cutesy as if it were a baby)
"Merry Krampmas, everybody! I'm so excited, this is gonna be a lotta fun!" (Excited, they're brimming with holiday spirit)
"Now Shelly, this isn't going to be some sort of crazy monster you made in a lab, is it?" (Unease, clearly nervous to accept the gift, but trying not to be rude to Shelly)
On the surface, Amun seems like a cool, slick hustler who's got it all "figured out". Truth is, he's the epitome of "fake it until you make it" (He's still working on that last part). Amun is desperate for popularity, and schemes endlessly to steal a bit of that spotlight. He often drags his friends into these schemes, and while they never work, his tenacity is at least admirable.
Born from a ritual involving the Egyptian god Ra, Amun is an inheritely magical being, and is studying to be an acolyte. But he hates studying, and would rather use the magic he does know to show off and impress "normies" - much to the irritation or Ra himself.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"so Amun my default voice is Chad Doreck doing Brad, also from MLAATR. Sort of a scratchier voice, if that makes sense. His lines would be delivered like someone who thinks he’s really cool. He’s also pretty brash, but I wouldn’t say he’s “mean”, like he’s not malicious. He can just be thoughtless"

"What's to play? I'll just let the words come to me naturally. Speak from the heart, ya know?" (Overconfident, thinking he's smoother than he actually is)
"I don't see any big boxes. I don't think anyone got anything good." (Observing, coming off as unintentionally ungrateful)
"I know I've been a little cheap in the past, but this year's different - this time I made the gift myself! And put in a lotta time and effort, I might add!" (Defensive, he's trying to pass off his crappy gift as something great and sentimental)
Crude, brash, and wild, Mara thinks she's the apex predator of Belleville High - and she would love if everyone else thought so too. Mara lives life to the extreme, and loves engaging in the most dangerous sports and hobbies she can find - which, combined with her competitive nature, has led to more than a few broken bones (and, as she puts it, "battle scars").
Despite this, she generally has a chill "up for anything" attitude. She's also extremely loyal, and will stick by her friends no matter what, even weenies like Chole and Kendall.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"Mara would be a scratchy tomboy voice; I’m thinking something close to Pamala Aldon doing Spinelli from Recess, or Natalie Palamides doing Buttercup from PPG 2016. This is like the 3rd time I’ve used the word “brash” as a descriptor, but it probably fits Mara best (like, her speaking pattern would be similar to those above examples)"

"Alright Amun, make sure you get everything! Don't miss a minute of this action! This is gonna be so boss!" (Psyched up, she's about to attempt an incredible stunt. Keyword: attempt)
"HAHA! Tag! Now YOU'RE it! ... Yo, Shelly. You aight?" (Starts out energetic and playful, then switches to a more casual tone once she realizes Shelly isn't responding)
"Check it out! Your very own chewing ball! Go on, try it out! Good, right?" (Excited, anxious to see how her friend reacts to her gift)
Kendall is a rational, analytical, and fairly grounded person - which often puts him at odds with the rest of the group. A proud mathlete and avid TTRPG player, Kendall plays the part of the typical "nerd". He's extremely smart, rivaling Shelly in intelligence (and beating her in wisdom). Because of this, Shelly often uses him as her "lab assistant" - which does nothing to help with his chronic anxiety.
So why stick around? The truth is, being the "straight man" of the group gives Kendall a sense of purpose. He can act as the "reality check" the rest of the squad needs to stay out of trouble ... not that it ever really works.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"Kendall would kinda be nervous and anxious, but also sweet and sincere. He’s a character who always hopes for the best in things, but often finds himself exasperated by the crazy antics of this friends"

"Why did you do this? Why do you do these things?" (Dumbfounded and disturbed, questioning another one of Shelly's weird experiments)
"Alright Shelly, so I know how much you like brains and stuff. So I got you a little something that I think is really "you"!" (Friendly, trying to make a sweet gesture to his friend)
"Oh! Wow, uh, thanks Mara. It looks ... wet ..." (Uneasy, is trying his best not to be offput by Mara's chewed up gift)
Azra is a hellspawn, a lesser demon made for the purpose of soul collection. They take to the overworlds to solicite these souls, which are then fed to a demon lord. The more souls consumed, the higher a lord's rank in the hells.
Not that Azra cares. She's lived with her older brother on the surface for a few years now, and while they technically have a job to do, their boss is basically hands-off - which means Azra's free to bum around, and even attend surface school. What joy. More "mischevious" than "malevolent", Azra likes pulling pranks, especially on Shelly. Filling her backpack with frogs, shooting spitballs, setting her on fire ... it's all in good fun.
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"I think with Azra it would be important to distinguish that her voice would be more playful than malicious. Almost like the probable she pulls are fun for her, and she sees it all as a joke, rather than the bullying it is. But she also thinks she’s better than everyone. For a while I had Jennifer Hale as my “default” voice for her, but with a slightly higher pitch. But really anything could work - her voice just wouldn’t be as gruff or scratchy as Mara’s (I only make the connection bc they seem like they might have similar voices)"

"Hey Screwloose! You sound a little hoarse. I think it's cuz you got a frog in your throat!" (Taunting Shelly before pulling a prank on her)
"S'up, bitches! Look who scored a free drink! S'me." (Cocky, gloating about her drink)
"Oh Aideen, my little NPC. How does it feel living a life of paranoia? Exhausting, I bet. Life isn't tried. It's merely survived." (Condescending, mocking one of her peers being abrehensive about a drink she found)
Mau really wants to be the "cool teacher"; the one all students look up to. The one who "gets it", who's "with it". But nothing is more uncool than trying to be cool.
Things don't usually work out well for Mau; she has a crappy apartment, her job pays next to nothing, and she recently ran out of "singles in her area". Her only passion is teaching history, and even that seems to waver. Despite the millennial ennui, Mau trudges through life on the promise of something better, just over the horizon. Until then, she'll keep teaching. Maybe one day she'll make an impact on a kid! (Though she's not holding her breath)
VOICE DIRECTION (from Josh):
"Mau would be very down to earth, like she would talk like a typical 30-something millennial. Someone who’s kind of fed up with life, but keeps trudging along anyway. Not to say she’s depressed, but she’s been around the block a few times. My default voice for her is Lucy Christian doing Yukari Tanizaki from Azumanga Daioh"

"Heh, yeah. I had a pretty CRAAAZY weekend too." (Casual, trying to seem cool)
"HA HA! Dude! How does ANYONE do these 'try not to laugh' things?" (Hysterical, high as a kite)
