"Janus Station" is a short, free-to-play first person sci-fi narrative horror game which deals with themes of emotions, companionship and the nature of love. It is being developed and self-funded by me as a solo project (I do this quite a bit - please see the "About Me" section to get an idea for the work that I do!). The game will be released completely free on itch.io and will be roughly one hour in length.
The main gameplay has the player examining scenes and looking for clues about what transpired aboard various junked ships, 'auditing' them for damages and value. As they play the game they experience conversations and dialog which allow them to learn more about Grace and the world, as well as her relationship with Naomi and Sydney.
Grace Tang is an Insurance Auditor who lives alone aboard Janus Station. Grace leads a solitary existence, spending her days auditing wrecks alongside the Station's A.I. named Naomi. Every so often she's visited by her coworker, Sydney Cooke, whom she secretly has developed a long-lasting crush and has never been properly able to express to her. One day an unusual ship arrives carrying a strange artifact which causes Naomi to suddenly experience emotions, which leads her to lash out at Grace for never catching on to her affections..
I'm a strong believer in equitable compensation, so all VA roles are paid roles and all roles will be paid in full on line delivery and independent of whether or not the project actually reaches full completion. I do not intend to commercialize or make a profit from this game myself.
I'm reaching out for voice work much earlier than I'm used to (and comfortable with) for my projects, however since the game depends heavily on narrative, characterization and dialog I think it's well warranted to inform the rest of the game.
For a very rough and early idea about the gameplay and visuals please see the attached video for some prototyping I have in the works, and please be sure to read each character's bio for an understanding of what I might be looking for in each!
What to Expect
The project will close at the provided deadline and submissions will be reviewed thereafter, and I'll reach out to you and inform you you've received the role. From there we can discuss the plan further over Discord, and I'll work towards ensuring you get all the information you need to record your work! I'm comfortable with providing direction in the initial script and leaving VAs to record on their own, but voice calls can be arranged if more direction is required.
What am I looking for?
Clean, single line recordings
I'd like something that sounds intermediate to professional quality, with as little background noise or alteration required on my part as possible for it to be usable. I'm going to do some post-production on my end, but there's a large amount of dialog planned for this game so I won't complain if there's less for me to sort out :) To that end, if you do get the role the ability to submit multiple takes as individual files (e.g. Line1Take1.wave, Line1Take2.wav, etc.) is also a lifesaver for me!
Retake Flexibility
I promise to do my utmost to minimize the amount of work you need to do, however the flexibility to retake or rerecord some pickups in the event a line or two changes during production would be excellent. Much of the game is written and outlined, but there's always a possibility of some small final-hour changes. In the event pickup sessions do need to occur, these pickups would also be paid.
Ability to submit takes through Google Drive
I'll likely be organizing these lines into a Google Spreadsheet (for my own organizational sanity!), so being able to upload your lines to a Google Drive and submit them to my through sharing links is the ideal delivery method.
Please let me know if you have any comments, questions or concerns about the role. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to your audition! :)
