DetectiveYOU: Murder Mystery Game
Project Overview
Update -- We are casting one more role (Mel) and will be accepting auditions until June 7. We plan on filling this role quickly as post production is nearing completion!
Update -- We'd like to thank everyone for the auditions, we had over 300 and it was very difficult to choose as they were all great!
Hello all! We're creating a location based murder mystery game, which will be delivered through a mobile app. The experience will entail users hitting the streets as a new detective, listening to a fun and entertaining audio story while trying to find clues to help identify the killer.
From a production standpoint, it will be similar to a podcast / radio drama, complete with voice actors & sound engineering, including sound effects and ambience. As a division of Tripvia Inc., a smartphone audio tour company, we have experience delivering professional audio experiences.
What We're Looking For
A dozen or so voices to bring our characters to life. All roles will be in English, with modern vernacular.
Compensation
We are budgeting $30 to $100 (CAD) per role, based on whether it's a minor or major one. We'll also include a 'cast' page on our website which can include any information you like to promote your brand (pics, bios, links, audio samples, etc). We'll also list the actors at the end of the experience within the app both in text and audio formats.
Deadlines
We're looking to make our final decisions by May 7th, at which point we'll notify the individuals and send the script over. Our target is one week from that date to have all lines submitted. If we require any revisions, we except you to be able to accommodate that within a couple days.
Communication
Once you're selected, we can communicate by any standard means (email, text, Whatsapp). We'll be readily available to answer any questions you may have or provide feedback as you go.
Our Expectations
Please submit clean recordings on prosumer mics, XLR is preferred (no air conditioners, fans or other unwanted background noise -- we don't mind performing minimal noise reduction on your files, however too much clean-up reduces the quality of your voice). Speaking of clean-up -- please let us handle the post-production. Don't add effects to your lines -- leave that to our audio geniuses :)
If cast for the role, please submit your recordings as one .wav file to our company email address, which will be provided to you after casting. If a file is too large to submit via email, we prefer to use WeTransfer.
We may occasionally ask for line re-dos, but we do this sparingly and only after great consideration - we realize your time is valuable, and we won't ask for anything we can't work around in edits.
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
Firm, commanding, intimidating, older, rough. Along the lines of Capt Holt from Brooklyn 99
Greetings Detectives. I'm Commander Mahoney, Chief of Police.
First up is Philbert Tucker, goes by ‘Phil’.. Probably a good decision with that name…
Don’t forget, there’s no one else, you’re all we’ve got. Good luck detectives.
Professional, British accent. Similar to Moneypenny, will the helping the detectives throughout the experience.
Hello detectives, I’m Aspen. I'm here to give you a technical briefing before you hit the streets.
I marked this location as we arrested Phil Tucker earlier last night from this store, although we released him a few hours later due to lack of evidence.
The interesting part is that it returned a 20% DNA match to Mr.Hartley, which is consistent with someone related.
Direct, respectful, probing, professional. Thinking like a McConaughey from True Detective.
Did you see anything else out of the ordinary between then and when the officer showed up?
Yeah, we’ve been pretty short lately. We’ve got some new hires coming in so hopefully that’ll help. So what was the exact reason for the call?
So you called us because she was.. rude?
angry, aggressive, in need of a fix
You rich assholes are so spoiled, taking advantage of the lower class like this!
Hey man I just washed your windows, aren’t you gonna pay me!?
Oh come on that’s bullshit man. Rich guy like you in your brand new SUV, you gotta have something.
Unstable, emotional, angry. Goes from calm to angry and yelling.
I just.. I just need to talk Dr Reece. I feel like I’m on a ledge and about to fall off.
But I need you Dr. Reece. Why can’t you just help me?
It’s that useless piece of shit of a husband Andrew!
Sneaky, shady.. like an unethical used car salesman. Eastern European accent.
Shit. No. Uhh ya no I totally forget. It’s been awhile since I set it.
Come on man, it’s me! I promise you.
I won’t tell anyone. Tell you what (lowers voice).. You’ve seen how much money is in there right? If you do this for me, I’ll give you 10%.
Energetic, tries to crack jokes, a little nervous about being questioned. Perhaps some sort of accent.
I know we were screwing but.. That’s all it was. She was crazy!
Oh and detective, don’t forget, in the words of Shaggy, “It wasn’t me”. (laughs at himself).
ha… she wants space? She’s got it!
High school aged, timid, shy, nervous.
I mean the whole thing was like, out of the ordinary.
Maybe he saw the officer coming and panicked, threw it out the door.
Other kind of like, sketchy stuff. Rope, hatchets, gloves, that kind of stuff.
Well spoken, calm demeanor but has a temper.
My wife and I were driving home after dinner and stopped at a light, it was probably around 11 or 1130
I told you, I don’t. I didn’t ask you to clean the windows.
Ha you think you’re the working class? You’re nothing but a leech on society.
Professional, calm. Ethnic accent.
(YAWNS).. ya.. just give me a sec.. (yawn again).. ok.. I’m here. Sorry, crazy night.
Oh right, yes, sorry. Sometimes the sketchy drug heads wander in too
I was definitely a bit worried when he was threatening people with it, could do some damage for sure.
Professional, articulate, well spoken possibly with an accent. Calm, yet firm.
I’m afraid I can’t go into much detail with regards to my diagnosis
Ah ok, well it’s no matter, I have it on my security footage anyways.
Kelsey you know this is wildly inappropriate. You need to respect my privacy. How did you even find me?
Well spoken, but ‘frail’ voice. Around 75 years old.
(On answering machine) Hello? Hello? Oh.. I guess I just start talking. Ok. Well, where do I start?
I peeked out the door and he was jumping up and down, like he just cracked the game winning homer like Babe Ruth.
Now I’m no policeman but I’ve watched enough programs to know something suspicious when I see it.
Early to mid twenties. Australian, New Zealand or South African accent. Trendy, suave, cool.
Ah. Right. Obviously. Sorry.. I’m a bit nervous. I was in contact with a murder suspect? When? Who?
Lucky guy’s long lost uncle died and left him a fortu… wait… wait. You said there was a murder. Did that guy die?
I mentioned he might want to go put that bad boy in the bank, I’d be nervous as hell walking around with 40 mil in my wallet.
Young, hint of ethnic accent. Energetic, smart. Similar to Aziz Ansari.
Close enough but.. You can just call me Sakuma, or Saku for short.
So when I ask for ID he says he didn’t just lose his bank card, but lost his whole wallet.
I’m really sorry Sir, but I can’t do that. Not only would I lose my job, but I could get charged.
We require 45 illustrations that match the scene being heard through the devices audio. They will be displayed on a mobile device within an app (so will be pretty small). The style we are going for is comic book Noir (a bit like Sin City, but more color).

There are 14 different characters in the story, with some being repeated a few times. Ideally looking for someone to work long term with on subsequent episodes.
Say something you think would fit
30's, Scatter-brained, a bit frumpy
I usually work the late shift so I can be home with my son during the day. I’m a single mom and he’s 2. His dad left last year… typical lying prick.
Oh ya. For sure. I’d recognize that evil grin anywhere. She did it, by the way. I just know it. She was not fun to serve.
I’m sorry officer but, is there anything else? I really have to get going and I’m worried my boss will see me.
