Casting Call for - 'Til We Meet Again
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
Hello! This is a casting call for a special personal project based on real family history. The story of "'Til We Meet Again" talks about the journey of a Mennonite family who live in Russia during World War I, the Russian Revolution and the Great Famine and no longer feel welcome in their home. They decide to leave everything they built behind to immigrate to Canada to have a better life. The project is going to be animated and using anthropomorphic cats and dogs to represent the family to hide the identities of the real people who are still alive today. The project will be split into 10 episodes. The project will be uploaded onto YouTube with a goal to begin uploads on December 28, 2024, exactly 100 years when my great grandparents officially immigrated to Canada.
LANGUAGES
The story and the main language is English and will accept all accents, but a knowledge of the Russian language will be recommended if wanting to voice Russian characters. A knowledge of the German is a great asset, but is not necessary.
EXPECTATIONS
This is an amateur passion project based off of real interviews with surviving family members and VHS interviews that is done on spare time. All animation will be done by one person, which is me. I am a mother with little spare time on the weekdays and understand life gets in the way sometimes. I will work to accommodate the cast's personal schedules with reasonable expectations to complete within the deadline. This position is unpaid. Although the project is split into ten episodes, casts will record all their lines with the option to redo lines later on upon consultation.
I will communicate primarily through Discord. If you are unfamiliar with Discord, you can still audition, however, I strongly, strongly recommend participation through Discord so that you can collaborate with your fellow voice actors.
The project is based on a group of religious people, but this project is not intended to be religious or directed to religious people. Mentions of God, Jesus and the Bible will be in the project. The intention is to view the life of a group of people who are devout to God without being preachy or ostracizing those who are not religious.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Those voicing main characters are recommended to voice only that character.
- Those voicing minor characters may audition for other characters upon consultation with me.
- A Discord account is mandatory to partake in the project.
- As per Discord's terms of service, you must be at least 13 years old to audition. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- I am looking for clear and quality audio. A good quality microphone is recommended, but if it is not possible, please no background noise.
- This is a passion project and will work at a different pace.
- I am an amateur and am willing to take criticisms.

He is humble, confident and loyal. He once had an arrogant view on girls as a child, but was shown that girls can do anything boys can do. He is the second Braun child, Marta’s husband and father of Hans and Hannah. Able to sing. He is in his 20’s. He is able to speak Russian but doesn't have a Russian accent when speaking.
Since we’re not technically military, we don’t know the full story, but from what rumours I’ve heard, after the tsar’s abdication and with the government formed after it, morale within the army has been so low that soldiers are refusing to fight and antigovernmental protests have been all over Petrograd. So even though we’re still at war with Germany, we’re not really fighting them anymore and we got sent home as other soldiers are being sent home.
I tell you, Marta, I’ve never seen Gideon act like that. To know that there are people eating other people is just awful. I feel so bad for Gideon that he witnessed that.
Yo, it is hard. Following God’s Word and going where he wants us to go involves many sacrifices and is never easy. But remember, even far back when the Mennonites began, they left everything behind and fled the Netherlands. We regard them as heroes for leaving, we don’t view that as not trusting God. And I’m sure our descendants will look back at our decision to leave and thank us for it.
She is outgoing, caring and mischievous. She is the second Schmidt child, Peter’s wife and mother of Hans and Hannah. Able to sing. She is in her 20’s.
Hey, Katherine, is it okay if I go read this letter?
How could you say that when it’s clear that Mennonites aren’t welcome in Russia anymore? How many colonies are being wiped out by a madman? Russians telling us to go back to Germany? How this Joseph Stalin fellow who took over for Lenin has been showing clear signs that he is against what Katherine the Great originally wanted?
My husband! He’s going to be left behind! Please! Open the door!!
He is caring, hardworking and gentle. He is the patriarch of the Braun family. He is Maria’s husband. He is shown to be both in his early 30’s and mid 50’s. He is able to speak Russian but has no accent.
Hide your valuables! The soldiers are here.
For years, I have been feeling unwelcome here. Our people are being mistreated and our promises that Katherine the Great gave us so many years ago have been broken. I have been asking God for weeks to send me an answer to what we should do, and this... this answers my prayer. I know what God wants us to do. Paul is in North America and we are going there too.
Everyone pack your suitcases. We’re leaving on the next train!”
She is thoughtful, loving and cautious. She is the matriarch of the Braun family. She is Pete’s wife. She is shown to be both in her early 30’s and early 50’s.
Alright boys, you know the drill. You need to be quiet while Papa gets his rest in. Gideon and Josef, it’s time for your naps.
Jesse, you know how reckless this idea of yours is?
The government lied to us. They put us through terrible grief for nothing!
He is opinionated, stubborn and a fighter. He is the fourth Braun child. He is Helen’s husband and Sarah and Jethro’s father. He is a teenager and in his 20’s.
You can’t be serious, Papa. We are Mennonites, we don’t fight. They can’t just force us to go against our beliefs.
Please, Mama. I’m not getting conscripted. I made up my mind.
Hans and Hannah, come over here so you can wave to Opa.
He is curious, impulsive and trusting. He is the fifth Braun child. He is Deborah’s husband and Katie’s father. He is depicted as teenager (13) and in his 20’s.
So, the war is over??
(gasping and gagging) Cannibals. I’ve seen a cannibal.
So I think according to this timetable, our train will stop in…Moosei Yof . And then we’ll take a local train all the way to Dash Springs.
He is thoughtful, patient and caring. He is the patriarch of the Schmidt family. He is Anna’s husband, Katherine, Marta and Elizabeth's father, Gertrude’s husband, Diana, Esau and Aggie’s stepfather and Mary, Aaron, Henry and Jacob’s father. He is shown to be both in his late 30’s and mid 50’s.
If we work really hard, I’m sure we can finish the entire fence by supper. Say, you work on the inside fence and I’ll work on the outside fence. Deal?
Peter, I know you come from a household of boys, but let me tell you something. Never underestimate a woman. Women work just as hard as men, sometimes even harder. Men are physically strong, but women are emotionally strong. Respect your mama, possible sisters and your future wife.
He is brave, warm and loyal. He is the oldest Braun child. He is in his 20’s.
It’s an automobile with an officer in it.
We got sent home.
And just in time for somebody’s silver anniversary?
He is eager, reserved and sensible. He is the third Braun child. He is in his 20’s.
No, but nobody wants to fight anymore, so they let us go home.
I didn’t realize it would be this bad.
I don’t know. Gideon was hearing a commotion so he went to check it out and when he returned, it was like he saw a ghost. Then he ran over there and vomited. That’s why Peter is there.
He is organised, nervous and kind. He is the sixth Braun child. He is Lydia’s husband. He is shown as a teenager and in his 20’s.
Papa, are you sure you want to do that? We’re going to be struggling as it is. We know that it’s going to be those peasants that will be asking for food.
But Number 10 didn’t really get raided, so we should be fine, right?
Now for the exit visas and the passports.
He is naive, cautious and kind. He is the seventh Braun child. He is shown to be a teenager and a young adult.
About time.
Everyone is here, Papa. Read the letter!
But we’ll all be relatively close to each other, right?
She is caring, considerate and motherly. She is the eighth Braun child. She is shown to be a child (6 and 9), a teenager (15) and a young woman.
Paul doesn’t. He’s a secretary. But I’m sure Peter and Amos do, being medics. Now, try to get some sleep.
(tearing up) I’m so sorry.
It’s not fair, Greta. We don’t want to leave you behind.
She is mature, independent and hardworking. She is the ninth Braun child. She is shown to be a child (4 and 7), a teenager and a young woman.
I just want to go to sleep.
Papa, I can’t see. My eyes are watering too much.
I don’t want to keep you here any longer. Please, Papa, Mama misses you.
He is naïve, nervous and loyal. He is the tenth Braun child. He is shown to be a child (3 and 6) and a teenager.
When will this be done?
This is it! We’re finally leaving this halenfia.
He is curious, determined and impressionable. He is the eleventh Braun child. He is shown to be a baby and a child (4-11)
Do you think our brothers hear this every night?
I don’t like soldiers.
Shh! You don’t want any Russians hearing you.
Young Peter Braun is confident and loyal, however he has a unhealthy traditionalist view of girls as a child and can be a bit rude. He is approximately 10 years old.
(breathing heavily) Paul, can we stop at the top?
(groans in annoyance as he looks at his painted hand) A simple hello would have been sufficient, Marta.
Can you leave me alone? This is man’s work. Go back inside with your Mama and do girl’s work.
She is outgoing, caring and mischievous. She is the second Schmidt child, Peter’s wife and mother of Hans and Hannah. Able to sing. She is approximately 10 years old.
What are you doing here, Peter?
You got into trouble, didn’t you?
I already did, dompkoff! In fact, Mama said I could go do whatever I want after finishing my chores, and I want to help Papa. So I’m going to help Papa.
He is brave, warm and loyal. He is the oldest Braun child. He is 11 years old.
What is it, Mama?
(visibly tired but trying not to show) Okay, fine, but only a short break. We need to get there soon before the kids from Number Nine take the best candy.
He is naive, cautious and kind. He is the seventh Braun child. He is 8 years old.
What does this mean for us? We’re Germans living in Russia.
But Jesse’s not here.
He is organised, nervous and kind. He is the sixth Braun child. He is Lydia’s husband. He is depicted as a baby and a child.
Will we ever see Paul and Peter again?
What are you going to do when they come back?
She is reserved, timid and thoughtful. She is the first Schmidt child, John’s wife and Jonathan’s mother. Able to sing. She is in her 20’s.
Goodness, Russia seems to be falling apart.
I’m so excited for you, Marta! That is an answer to our prayers.
No, Marta, this isn’t the last time. Even if we never see each other together on earth, we will in Heaven.
She is sharp, rigid and awkward. Silas’s second wife, Katherine, Marta and Elizabeth’s step mother and mother of Diana, Esau, Aggie, Mary, Aaron, Henry and Jacob. She is shown to be in her early 30’s and early 40’s.
Mary, you don’t need to ask those questions.
Good, good. Anyways, Katherine will be finishing up soon, if you don’t mind going back to help.
She is opinionated, stubborn and loyal. She is the third Schmidt child. Able to sing. She is shown to be 17 and in her 20’s.
So why exactly were you, Amos and Paul sent home?
I believe that things will work out in the end. If you two want to leave everything we worked so hard for and deal with learning new languages and cultures and realize that Canada isn’t all that it’s hyped up to be, don’t come crawling back to me saying I was right all along.
Marta! Look, I’m sorry for being so judgmental. I don’t want our last interactions to be filled with anger and spite. I should have accepted that if this is what God’s calling you to do, then you follow what the Lord says.
First was a begging, starving farmer during famine but is unknowingly encountered as a brakeman. He is shown as a young adult.
Please, sir. I am hungry. Do you have any food you could spare?
Mennonites showed me great kindness during the famine. I owe it to them for keeping me alive. I will always respect Mennonites because of their actions.
Have a good life in Canada.
He is caring, determined and courageous. He is the leader of the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonisation. He is in his 50’s.
Our people need help. I’ve got to do something about it.
This is why I want to start this committee. With God’s guidance, we can get the borders open and we can provide financial relief so that our people can have an easier time immigrating.
So with the aid of the CPR, we could bring more hard working farmers into the prairies to bring more profits for both the country and for the railway.
He is playful, insightful and curious. He is Peter and Marta’s son.
We’re never coming back, are we?
Mama, this isn’t a coach! Why are we in a cattle car?
Canada has funny names.
She is curious, playful and sweet. She is Peter and Marta’s daughter. She is a 2-3 years old.
Papa!!
Do you see any fish?
How much longer until we get to our house?

But I’m not tiwed.
Now everybody look here and keep as still as possible. Children, remember to look at the lens in the box.
She is annoying, stubborn and naive. She is Silas and Gertrude’s first child and Marta’s half-sister. She is shown to be 3 and 11.
Who’s the letter from?
Are you going to marry Peter?

As you may have heard, the Winter Palace was captured in Petrograd a few days ago. The Red Army has begun to engage in battles
against the White Army. It is with great sorrow to announce that all men who have not completed their four years of service are now obligated to conscript into non combative military roles, such as administration, secretary or medic.
We have come for Jesse Braun to begin his service with the White army
We know about you people and your refusal to fight. We have found countless unwilling men before. We will be back and if we find Jesse Braun hiding, the consequences will be heavy for all of you!

He is determined and outspoken. He is a board member. He is in his 50’s.

Why, I don’t have much time, but sure. What is it that I can help you with?
Why, I see Canada as a second start and a refuge for all people, not just the British. If I became Prime Minister, I would remove those immigration blockades so that your family and friends could come here. But I would need a lot of support.
He is the chief commissioner at Canadian Pacific Railways. He is stern, proper and generous. He is 65.
What you offer is unusual and very expensive.
However, I have shared similar thoughts to you. I worked in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta during my time as the Chief Engineer and Deputy Commissioner of Public. I also came to know about the Mennonites. You are all hard working people with great skills for the land. You embrace new technologies, you’re industrious and you’re honest. We need more people in our great country of Canada.
