[CLOSED] ARTIFICIAL FAULTS ROUND 1
Project Overview
NOTE; Payment estimate has been added to each role. Script and budget are WIP, and as such final values are yet to be determined!
Hey there! Here's the lowdown of this wonderful and ever-growing project;
ARTIFICIAL FAULTS is a sci-fi drama web series created using both the art of machinima and original 3D animation, set within the Halo video game universe.
The story begins in the 26th century, where the galaxy remains vulnerable following a collective war for survival. Four augmented human supersoldiers, known as 'Spartans', return from an abandoned state, thrust into new and unfamiliar conflicts. With no choice but to advance, many challenges await, both on the battlefield, as well as within.
This project will be looking for a wide range of voice acting roles, from leads to secondary characters, to extras. All will be fully compensated upon an agreed rate, and finalized casting choices will be welcomed into the development Discord server, where the entire team can collaborate and mesh together equally!
Please ensure that your microphone is capable of recording your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping. Though this is a team effort, only so much manpower can be dedicated to cleaning up less than ideal recording conditions. The cleaner it is from the source, the better it'll sound in final use!
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
CASTING PREREQUISITES; Young Adult, Female, North American Accent, Caucasian.
NOTE; Script and budget are WIP, and as such are not listed at final values.
This is a long-term role, as the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story will be told over multiple seasons. If you have any questions regarding the role or the project, just let me know!
Valencia-086 is one of the lead characters in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story. Serving as Lieutenant Commander and second in command of supersoldier unit Zero Team, Valencia is a loyal, by-the-books member of the roster, with a tendency to make sure everything around her is exactly the way her protocol dictates.
Like her flawed compatriots, however, Valencia's surface level behavior masks the layers underneath. Afflicted with an anxiety disorder, Valencia regularly suffers from panic attacks and disruptions to her daily routines. During these moments, her deeper thoughts of feeling inadequate, small, and irresponsible shine through.
Occasionally, Valencia does have moments of solace in those around her. Normally keeping her walls of discipline strong, there are breaks of tenderness in which she engages with her teammates, such as Commander Raimundo-035, who she has known the longest, to younger additions Halbert-012 and Frida-097, who she has to keep somewhat of a leash on at times.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Valencia's dialogue;
VALENCIA-086 AUDITION LINES
SCENE 1: VALENCIA AND RAIMUNDO, A FELLOW TEAMMATE, DISCUSS THEIR RECENT ADDITION TO THEIR UNIT’S ROSTER, AS WELL AS HER PERSONAL WELL-BEING.
Elsewhere, Raimundo and Valencia meet up at the strange crate present in the facility. Valencia begins to observe it as Raimundo closes in on her.
RAIMUNDO (NOTIONS)
What’s up with this?
VALENCIA (INTERACTING)
In the short time I had to access this facility’s archives, I read that occupants receive periodic shipments of supplies from other UNSC bases of operation nearby. I suppose while we were up in Quito Station welcoming our new recruit, Colonel Duncan already authorized the restarting of these shipments.
RAIMUNDO
Supplies, huh? What, are we talking piñatas and birthday cakes?
Valencia peeks out from behind the crate, tossing a fragmentation grenade up and down in her hand, before tossing it high, and swiping it out of the air once it reaches her hand again.
VALENCIA (SMIRKING UNDER HER HELMET)
Something like that. The contents of this shipment mainly include MRE rations and ammunitions. I’ll have to put in a request for the next one to include sheets of paper and a printer.
RAIMUNDO
For what?
VALENCIA (FACING RAIMUNDO)
To fill out our schedules and place them on display. We have to remain occupied while we stay here, even if it’s only temporary. I already have our day-by-day tasks sorted out.
RAIMUNDO (SMIRKS)
Some things really never do change, I guess. Is focusing on that supposed to help you stop being so on edge around the new kid?
VALENCIA
What are you talking about?
RAIMUNDO
You’re treating him like royalty, like your life depends on it. Well, then again, he was Covenant, so who knows...
VALENCIA
Our orders are to make Cyro ‘Hazam feel welcome and integrated into the unit. I’m simply warming back up into my usual routines to follow orders to the best of my ability, now that we’ve exited cryosleep, and have time to ourselves.
RAIMUNDO
As far as I can remember, your usual routines include micro-managing everything around you until one tiny thing doesn’t go exactly as planned, and… you know. I just don’t want to see you end up like that again.
VALENCIA (STERN)
I will be fine, Commander. The fact of the matter is that Zero Team’s roster has been... separated... for a very long time. Now that we are all deployed together again, I need to continue filling my role as Lieutenant Commander, no matter the cost.
RAIMUNDO
And what about when that cost becomes too high of a price for you to pay?
VALENCIA
I will be fine. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to start breaking down this shipment so that we can properly catalogue and take inventory on its contents.
Raimundo shakes his head, and begins to walk off, crossing in the crate’s path, before stopping. He speaks up to Valencia, although the crate rests between them.
RAIMUNDO (SIGHS)
Don’t worry about that, Val. I’ll... I’ll take care of this thing. Just focus on whatever else you want to get done while we’re here.
VALENCIA (STOPS)
Are you sure, Commander?
RAIMUNDO (SCOFFS)
Yeah, I think I can handle breaking down a shipment of bullets and some snacks that taste like bullets. Besides, what kind of Commander would I be if I couldn’t pull my own weight?
Valencia takes a moment to respond.
VALENCIA
Fair enough. I’ll at least grab some ammunition for our M6G’s so I can sort extra magazines for us.
RAIMUNDO (PLAYFUL)
It’s always you and the damn model numbers, even from day one. It’s the “Magnum”, Val. We all got one, we all call it that.
VALENCIA (WALKING)
It’s like you said. Some things never do change.
Valencia walks out from behind the crate, towards the main control center, before stopping in her tracks.
VALENCIA
With that said, I’ll continue to review this facility’s archives. Catch up on what we missed.
Raimundo turns towards the crate, and begins working it over with his armored gloves. Valencia turns to face him.
VALENCIA
And... Rai?
Raimundo looks over his shoulder.
RAIMUNDO
Yeah?
VALENCIA
Thank you.
RAIMUNDO (LOW)
No problem.
Valencia turns back around towards the main control center as Raimundo continues to work. The view follows as she climbs the entryway ramp, takes the following turns, and is immediately welcomed by the warm blue glow of the large monitors, lit and active.
SCENE 2: VALENCIA SUFFERS ONE OF HER REGULAR ANXIETY ATTACKS AT THE REVELATION THAT HER LONGTIME HOME, PLANET REACH, HAS BEEN DESTROYED IN HER ABSENCE.
Back at Valencia, she continues listening to the computer’s auto-read of the archive logs. Multiple filled magazines sit on the desk, complete. She grabs another, and begins to load rounds into it.
VALENCIA (CURIOUS)
Funny, never thought the Marines stationed here would go so in-depth with coverage of the war. They were more tired of it than anyone, from what I remember. Wonder what could have changed that.
The computer continues as it reaches a new entry in the archival logs.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
However, despite the budgetary concerns over the Orbital Defense Platforms, their construction and approval was hastened by prior events. Next log. Spanning late July to late August; The fall of Planet Reach.
Valencia’s hands stop moving as she listens to the log.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
Following Covenant forces infiltrating Planet Reach’s defenses, they attempted to move quickly and silently on the surface, committing small infractions such as communication disruption. UNSC forces discovered the infiltration and appropriately responded, given Planet Reach’s importance as one of, if not the main source of military might for humanity.
Valencia’s hands continue to move, loading the clip at a slightly faster pace.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
However, once the Covenant realized they were discovered, they immediately revealed their invasion force as the single largest armada ever deployed to a human occupied colony. Over the course of the next month, UNSC and Covenant forces would engage in fierce battles for control of the planet and its status.
Valencia’s hands move even quicker. She slams the filled magazine on the table, grabbing another and beginning to load rounds into it.
VALENCIA (CLEARING HER THROAT)
Mhm.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
Ultimately, however, the UNSC would lose this engagement. It remained an extremely critical colony for both military and supply chains, as well as the rumored “home” of the Spartan supersoldiers.
The view begins to close in on Valencia’s helmet.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
The fall of Planet Reach saw many lives lost in the conflict, including those deployed into active duty, as well as civilians attempting to evacuate. The Covenant’s victory saw the planet “glassed”, or more specifically, their spacecraft’s heated beams of plasma burning the planet’s surface to the point of becoming uninhabitable. There are currently no plans to return to Planet Reach.
As the computer continues, Valencia’s breath begins to become audible, shaking. She finishes another clip, slamming it on the table, as well as grabbing more rounds of ammunition, some spilling onto the floor.
COMPUTER SPEAKER
Auto-read paused. Would you like to continue? Select yes, or no.
Valencia ignores the prompt as she loads rounds into the magazine even faster, haphazardly. Eventually, her hands fumble as she drops both the remaining rounds as well as the magazine onto the cement floor.
VALENCIA (TO HERSELF)
Shit.
She gets out of the chair to pick up the rounds. Valencia’s breath becomes faster, her chest tightening as she begins to pant.
Suddenly, Cyro ‘Hazam speaks up as he enters the control room, startling Valencia.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Human, I wish to speak with you. In regards to one of your own-
Immediately, Valencia shifts and grabs her Magnum in one swift motion, pointing it with one arm directly towards Cyro ‘Hazam, before realizing her actions.
VALENCIA (BREATH SHORTENING)
Oh, my God. I... I apologize, Cyro ‘Hazam, you just... you startled me...
Valencia leans against the entryway to the control room, as Cyro ‘Hazam takes a step back, off-put.
VALENCIA (PANTING)
Just give me... Give me one moment... To get back with you...
Valencia drops her Magnum as she regains her footing to walk out of the control room. She takes the opposite exit and entryway ramp she entered from, and enters the sub-level below the control room, riddled with heating pipes and fluorescent lights, serving as the facility’s maintenance hallway.
Valencia tears off her helmet, fidgeting with it in her hands. She begins to pace back and forth, breathing through her nose, slow and paced. Quick, frantic actions occupy her armored gloves, folding around as they hold her helmet.
Her slow and paced breathing becomes faster. Valencia shifts from breathing from her nose to inhaling through it and exhaling through her mouth, shakily. Her pacing increases, walking back and forth in her space faster.
Her breathing stops.
Valencia shifts again, trying and struggling to breathe solely out of her mouth. The fidgeting with her helmet becomes loose, and it falls to the ground. She stops, and kneels to pick it up, before stopping for just a moment, and slamming into the wall behind her.
Valencia falls into a complete state of shock as she quickly pants, her chest inhaling and exhaling air at an alarming rate as she grasps desperately at it, her body sealed in a prison cast from the dense and cold metal of her armor. She sits in the maintenance hallway, alone, as she feeds deeper and deeper into her state of mind.
SCENE 3: VALENCIA AND YOUNGER TEAMMATE FRIDA DISCUSS THEIR ULTIMATE PURPOSE AS SPARTANS, AS WELL AS SOLDIERS.
As Frida continues to bounce the grenade, footsteps approach on the level below. Another Zero Team member turns the corner of the parallel structure, revealed to be Valencia, curious on the disturbance.
VALENCIA (CALLING OUT)
097!
No response. Valencia shakes her head in frustration. She approaches Frida, seemingly focused entirely on the grenade’s impacts.
VALENCIA (REPEATING)
097!
Again, no response. Valencia approaches directly underneath Frida’s elevation, and calls out once more.
VALENCIA (LOUDER)
Frida!
Frida, suddenly alert, looks towards Valencia below, yet manages to catch the grenade in her hand one more time without her focus.
FRIDA (DISTRACTED)
Oh, hey, Lieutenant.
VALENCIA
Do you mind telling me why you’re... occupying yourself with a fragmentation grenade?
FRIDA (LOW)
No reason. Just... thinking, I guess.
VALENCIA
If you’re thinking, then I recommend thinking about completing your list of maintenance tasks. Petty Officer Halbert-012 has already started on his.
Valencia looks over her shoulder, turning back towards the raised platform facing the conversing, armored pair. On top rests Halbert, tucked away in a small corner onboard.
In front of him are empty magazines, paired with ammunition rounds waiting to be interacted with. He sits idle by them, arms crossed as he slowly breathes in and out, dormant.
VALENCIA (CALLING OUT)
Isn’t that right, 012?
No response rises from Halbert.
VALENCIA (LOUDER)
I said, isn’t that right, 012?
Halbert briefly shakes himself awake to respond, groggily.
HALBERT (SLURRING)
Hm, yes, yes, Lieutenant, I’m working on it...
VALENCIA
Mhm, be sure to have all those magazines filled by the time I check in on you!
HALBERT
Yes, ma’am...
Halbert shakes his head as he returns to his slumber.
FRIDA (GROANS)
Ugh, isn’t there anything else we can do around here?
VALENCIA (TURNING BACK)
You can also continue combat exercises using the training boards. And without that grenade, you know the rules. Standard issue only. Put it back.
Frida throws her head back onto the platform she leans on, resting on it in defiance.
VALENCIA
Do you want me to get the commander? I don’t think he would take kindly to you ignoring your duties.
FRIDA (GROANS)
Ugh...
VALENCIA
Does that mean you’re going to get started?
FRIDA (SARCASTIC)
Yes, Lieutenant...
VALENCIA
Good. Now put that back.
Valencia begins to turn around and walk away, before Frida speaks up while continuing to sit.
FRIDA (CURIOUS)
Lieutenant?
Valencia stops, looking over her shoulder.
VALENCIA
Yes?
FRIDA (SITTING UP)
Um... permission to speak freely?
VALENCIA (AFTER A MOMENT)
...Permission granted.
FRIDA
With all the other Spartans we know exist now... we still matter, right?
VALENCIA
I’m not sure what you mean.
FRIDA (BEFORE STUTTERING)
As in, the commander told us there’s generations of Spartans. Classes of soldiers we didn’t even know existed. But... even through all of that... we still exist, right?
Valencia to the side for a moment, pondering. Frida continues to look to her for a response, before Valencia looks back towards her.
VALENCIA
...Our duty as Spartans is to be the protectors Earth and all her colonies. We’ve known that for as long as I can remember. So... as we continue to do that, we do matter. We do exist.
FRIDA
Then why do I feel like ever since we came out of cryosleep, that hasn’t been the case?
VALENCIA (SCOFFS)
Where is this coming from, 097?
FRIDA (SOFT)
I know we’ve only been redeployed into active duty for a day or so, but our first mission after having Cyro join us... was a fight. Like it always is. It’s always a fight in front of us. I feel like soldiers... I feel like we... are supposed to be more than that.
VALENCIA (COLD)
We are exactly what we are ordered to be. That’s all.
Frida looks back towards the floor, giving no response.
VALENCIA
Now, please, put that ordnance away. You have work to do.
Frida stands up from her position, as she begins to walk deeper into the facility.
FRIDA (LOW)
Yes, Lieutenant.
As Frida walks away, Valencia watches for a brief moment before turning, beginning the return to her point of origin.

This is a long-term role, as the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story will be told over multiple seasons. If you have any questions regarding the role or the project, just let me know!
Halbert-012 is one of the lead characters in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story. Serving as one of the Petty Officers within supersoldier unit Zero Team, Halbert is an angsty, yet determined hothead. Primarily looking to be left alone most of the time, Halbert seeks to complete his given mission as fast as possible, usually to his own detriment and well-being.
Like his flawed compatriots, however, Halbert masks his inner workings with a facade of being uncaring and disinterested. Afflicted with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), Halbert regularly suffers from episodes of lashing out and rage-filled bursts. During these moments, his deeper thoughts of feeling unsatisfactory, ignored, and useless come to light, in which he looks to solve in a violent manner.
Despite this, Halbert does have very small moments of concern for his fellow teammates. Though regularly clashing with his commanding officers and authority figures Raimundo-035 and Valencia-086, they do share unique experiences together he doesn't find with many others. Though usually involuntary, he does also take part in a playful rivalry with fellow Petty Officer Frida-097.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Halbert's dialogue;
HALBERT-012 AUDITION SCENES;
SCENE 1: HALBERT AND HIS COMMANDING OFFICER, RAIMUNDO-035, ENGAGE IN AN ARGUMENT FOLLOWING HALBERT'S INDEPENDENT ACTION OF ELIMINATING A PERSON OF INTEREST WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION TO DO SO.
Meanwhile, Halbert gathers himself back within the facility. Raimundo and Cyro ‘Hazam reach the ground level, and cut behind Valencia and Frida, before turning a corner in the decrepit, overgrown facility and come across Halbert. He turns his back to them, contemplating.
HALBERT
You know... I had them. Three Elites ain’t exactly a picnic, but I didn’t need you to invite more chefs in the kitchen. I don’t know why you did that, but we’re in it now, so we might as well put together a plan, or whatever it is you’ll come up with.
RAIMUNDO
Cyro ‘Hazam, cover that exit!
As he rambles, Raimundo approaches intently, stopping directly in front of Halbert. Cyro ‘Hazam kneels by the exit, assisting in the battle.
RAIMUNDO (FURIOUS)
You stupid son of a bitch, what the hell is wrong with you?!
HALBERT (OFFENDED)
...Excuse me?
RAIMUNDO
I gave this unit a direct order to observe only! And you, for some reason, took that as an opportunity to showboat, execute a person of interest, and engage the entire unit in a firefight!
Halbert and Raimundo stare each other down, as the battle rages on outdoors, the trading gunfire swallowing the ambience.
HALBERT (NOTIONING)
You see him out there?
Halbert nudges towards the outside. Directly in front of their view lies the motionless corpse of the commanding Elite officer, remaining exactly where he was struck down by Halbert.
HALBERT
That’s their commander. The head honcho. I identified him as such, and eliminated him. I completed the mission.
RAIMUNDO (STERN)
You disobeyed orders, and blew our cover.
HALBERT (RISING IN ANGER)
You heard what Duncan said, this guy moves around quick. If I didn’t take the chance to end it all now, when would we get another shot? After him and his buddies decided to stop playing campfire boy scouts and start causing real trouble?! Is that what you prefer?!
RAIMUNDO (IN RESPONSE)
Obviously not, goddamnit, but there is a time and a place for decisive action like that, when I make that call! This wasn’t the time, this wasn’t the place, and it wasn’t your call to make! Now, Spartan, lower your tone.... and stand. Down!
Halbert continues to lock vision with Raimundo. He turns his back, frustrated in silence.
RAIMUNDO (SCOFFS)
I can only imagine what she would have to say about you acting like a child. You weren’t good enough to pull this lone wolf nonsense back then, and you aren’t good enough now.
Halbert immediately straightens himself, and turns back towards Raimundo.
HALBERT (MENACING)
She told me... to always complete the mission to the best of my ability. You think I’m not good enough? Let me show you the best of my ability.
Halbert, angered, immediately reloads his weapon, and charges deeper into the mangled facility’s twists and turns.
RAIMUNDO (CONFUSED)
012? 012?! Where are you going?!
HALBERT
To do some of that “lone wolf” nonsense. And then, we can go home...
RAIMUNDO (FRUSTRATED)
Just what I need, to play babysitter in the middle of this...
SCENE 2: HALBERT AND FELLOW PETTY OFFICER FRIDA-097 DISCUSS THE STATE OF THEIR NEW BASE OF OPERATIONS, AS WELL AS RECONVENING AFTER AN EXTENDED SEPARATION PERIOD.
Meanwhile, Halbert and Frida explore the remainder of the facility, patrolling and getting familiar with their new base of operations.
HALBERT (SCOFFING)
Look at this place. This is what the Marines were using? No wonder we were getting our ass kicked for three decades straight.
The two armor-clad soldiers come across an exposed wind turbine, its blades rusted by time and spinning rapidly as it emits an ear-piercing whine. Directly next to it is an observation tower. Halbert and Frida glare at the turbine blankly.
HALBERT (TURNING)
Yeah, this thing? Not gonna work out. I’ll have to ask the “Commander” if we can be transferred to a different facility, assuming whoever he talked to will let us. Then again, top brass usually seems to take care of stuff like that when we need it.
As Halbert rambles, Frida observes the turbine and the polluted, yet vibrant and strong gusts of wind produced by the blades.
HALBERT
I mean, we’re a Spartan unit, aren’t we? I’m not asking for the red carpet or anything, but this just isn’t standard protocol compared to what we’ve gotten in the past. That makes sense, right, Frida?
Halbert turns back around, waiting for a response from Frida, who is absent.
HALBERT (CURIOUS)
Frida?
Frida exerts herself as she jumps directly into the turbine’s path.
FRIDA (LAUNCHING)
Hup!
Suddenly, she is lifted high into the air from the polluted wind, and lands directly on top of the observation tower.
FRIDA (IN AWE)
Woah… Halbert… you gotta give that a try!
HALBERT (CALLING BACK)
I can think of a very long list of things I’d rather do. Can you come back down here?
FRIDA (LOW)
Heh, party pooper.
Swiftly, Frida pounces from the observation tower and lands with a powerful thud next to Halbert, her armor impacting the concrete below. A cloud of dust is kicked up, staining Halbert’s armor. As Frida recovers, he brushes it off in an annoyed fashion.
HALBERT
I couldn’t care less about you messing around, but don’t do it near me. You get caught and we’ll both be running laps for days. At least until the next mission, which doesn’t seem like it’ll be a long wait.
FRIDA
Yeah, they didn’t wait around to put us back in the saddle. What do you think they got us ready for?
HALBERT (SHRUGGING)
It’s just the same nonsense in a different time, Frida. We fight, go to sleep in the icebox, wake up, repeat. Just gotta do the mission better each time and get it over with. That’s all ONI and the UNSC care about, that’s why they’re keeping us around.
FRIDA
I wouldn’t say that. They’re keeping us around because what we do matters. We matter. Not everyone can say that.
HALBERT
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
FRIDA
You’ll come around sooner or later. In any case… it’s good to see all of us together like this. It’s… been a while, after all.
HALBERT (LOW)
Yeah.
A moment of silence between the two. Frida awkwardly looks around, before pointing out one of the nearby target practice boards on display in front of them. She begins to walk over.
FRIDA
Anyways, I saw some of the target practice boards this place has while I was up there, come take a look!
Halbert follows in suit, curious at what Frida is focused on. The target practice board is covered with the silhouette of a Brute solider, weapon raised in a battle stance.
FRIDA
Check it out, they’re life size! Up top we got some Jackal Sniper practice, and over here we got... wait a second...
HALBERT (CURIOUS)
The hell… a Brute?
FRIDA (CONCERNED)
...Why? I mean, I get it, know your enemy and all that, but they aren’t exactly hard to hit, being the size of a damn car. This should be… you know…
HALBERT
Them. It should definitely be them.
FRIDA (CURIOUS)
I mean… do you think they’re not around anymore? What if something happened to them while we were under?
HALBERT
You and I both know something like that isn’t on our side of luck. Got a feeling this has to do with why we’re being kept around. Valencia is probably knee-deep in this facility’s archives by now, I’m going to ask her.
Halbert turns around swiftly, back across the ramp and towards the control center of the facility.
FRIDA (PLAYFUL)
Ah, ah, ah! You mean you’re going to ask the Lieutenant!
HALBERT (CALLING BACK)
Don’t get cute.
SCENE 3: HALBERT AND HIS LESS-THAN-IDEAL TEAMMATE ADDITION, CYRO 'HAZAM, DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF A MISSION DEPLOYMENT, WHICH ENDED IN FAILURE.
Halbert turns to exit the main control room, as Cyro ‘Hazam watches. As Halbert makes distance between the two, he begins to follow.
Halbert enters the outer facility, walking down the ramp leading out of the main control room. At the top stands Cyro ‘Hazam, who calls out.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Human.
HALBERT (GROANS)
I’m not in the mood to play footsies with you right now, hinge-head.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
I will pretend I am aware of the meaning, and ignore it. In any case, I wish to speak with you.
HALBERT (TURNS)
What is it?
Cyro ‘Hazam begins to walk down the ramp, towards Halbert, before stopping in front of him.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
You are aware of the danger your actions placed us in, correct? The immediate execution of this “Provocateur” and the ensuing combat could have been avoided.
HALBERT
I’m aware, I’m very aware. I’m aware that I failed. I’m also aware that I’m finally back home, it’s finally quiet, and I can finally be left alone. And right now, that is all that matters to me.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
...I see. I bring this to your attention to warn you of committing these actions. Whether our alliance sits within your favor or not, we are still a unit, and we must act as such.
HALBERT
Yeah, I was kinda part of it before you became our new roomate.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
However, in your place... I may have done the same. You are correct in the belief that if there would have ever been a time to strike at their leadership, it would have been then. A shame it did not go according to plan.
Halbert looks off to the side, briefly, before back towards Cyro ‘Hazam.
HALBERT (SCOFFS)
Plan is a strong word. But at least we agree on one thing, I guess.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Agreement aside, you must control yourself, and these actions. I fear we have not seen the last of the Blades of Rebirth. These are soldiers that have seen as much combat as you and I, and fight for a cause that sits deep within their mind, unwavering.
HALBERT (THREATENING)
I can control myself just goddamn fine. My job as a Spartan is to solve problems, split-lip, so these new guys are just another one on the list. But don’t forget what I promised you before we left. If you become a problem, I won’t hesitate to solve it.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (STILL)
I hope you are correct, human. The task that lays ahead of us will be one of hardship.
HALBERT
I’ve been telling myself that my whole life. This is just that. Another problem.
Cyro ‘Hazam gives no response. He turns, walking away from Halbert.
Halbert stands idle, watching outside the chainlink fence surrounding the facility, as the view focuses on The Pit as a whole. He crosses his arms, silent.

Frida-097 is one of the lead characters in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story. Serving as one of the Petty Officers within supersoldier unit Zero Team, Frida is a playful, youthful, and caring member. A seeker of optimism in the otherwise serious tones her occupation places her in, she tries to keep energy on the up and up, when everyone around her is down.
Like her flawed compatriots, however, Frida's cheery nature is a mask for her true struggles. Afflicted with schizophrenia, Frida regularly suffers from episodes of delusion and hallucinations. During these moments, her feared thoughts of not truly existing, being forgotten, and her actions being ultimately worthless come to light.
Frida seeks a stronger bond with her fellow Spartans, despite her occasionally clashing personality with them. This ranges from her resisting routine maintenance work (given by her commanding officers Raimundo-035 and Valencia-086) in favor of finding an activity more stimulating, though in times of stress she does take matters more seriously. She also (usually without agreement) drags fellow Petty Officer Halbert-012 into a playful rivalry.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Frida's dialogue;

SCENE 2: FRIDA AND FELLOW TEAMMATE VALENCIA-086 DISCUSS THEIR ULTIMATE PURPOSE AS SPARTANS, AS WELL AS SOLDIERS.
SCENE 3: FRIDA AND NEW ROSTER ADDITION CYRO 'HAZAM DISCUSS THE ROUGH TRANSITION TAKING PLACE, AND HOW THE TWO PARTIES CAN SEEK TO ALLEVIATE IT.
As he walks, Frida’s armored helmet immediately pops over the platform as she lays atop it, peering at Cyro ‘Hazam.
FRIDA (CHEERFUL)
Hey there.
Cyro’ Hazam stops in his tracks, silent.
FRIDA
Been looking for you, but wanted to give you some space to get comfortable first.
He gives a very slow response, glaring at Frida as she lays on her back, looking “up” towards him.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Why? Have you come to threaten me as well, human?
FRIDA (CONFUSED)
What? No, why would I do that?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
That seems to be the only intent of this unit, ever since my arrival here. Your warriors have surrounded themselves with weaponry, aimed their sights directly upon me, and speak of an imminent attack on my safety.
Frida turns her body over, laying on her armor’s frontal plating as she sways her arms below.
FRIDA
Hmm, I see. Well, have you tried taking them out to lunch? I’m sure a few Moa Burgers and some laughs would make all that blow over.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
I do not know what that is.
FRIDA (CURIOUS)
A Moa Burger or the idea of lunch?
Cyro ‘Hazam glares at Frida silently.
FRIDA
A Moa Burger. Got it. In any case, remind me to educate you one of these days.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (ANNOYED)
Is this the reason you wish to speak to me?
FRIDA (SERIOUS)
No.
Frida hops down to the same level as Cyro ‘Hazam, facing him directly.
FRIDA
I wanted to speak with you because I kind of figured everyone else would react that way. The tension back when we picked you up was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Or... sword. Whatever that thing you’re carrying is. I wanted to tell you to... have some patience with us. Have some patience for this alliance.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Patience? Really?
FRIDA (LOW)
Listen. I’m willing to bet you’ve killed a lot of humans. And on the flipside, we’ve killed a lot of Covenant, especially Elites. That was war, that’s just what it was.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Your point?
FRIDA
My point is that the war is over. The people above us want to put that all in the past, and we should give it a shot. This alliance is something that’s going to help both sides, even if not everyone sees it yet. This unit included.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (HUFFS)
Hmph. Why do you feel this way as opposed to the others? What fuels your mind’s thoughts?
FRIDA
Well.. this is our chance to make things right. To do something that matters. And that’s just something I can get behind.
Cyro ‘Hazam takes a moment to ponder.
FRIDA
It’s gonna take some time for everyone to realize that. I know it won’t be easy, but your patience is all I ask of you.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
I will make an attempt to do so, human. That is all I shall pledge.
FRIDA (NODS)
That’s good enough, for now. Thank you.
Cyro ‘Hazam begins to walk past Frida off on his own yet again, before stopping.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
However, I would suggest you inform your allies in the same manner you have done for me. A bridge only takes form when both destinations are met.
FRIDA
I’ll keep that in mind. And I’ll do my best.
Cyro ‘Hazam nods, before continuing in his exploration of The Pit.

This is a long-term role, as the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story will be told over multiple seasons. If you have any questions regarding the role or the project, just let me know!
Cyro 'Hazam is a secondary character in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story. An alien warrior and very recent enemy-turned-ally of humanity, Cyro is a loyal yet fearsome member of Zero Team's support roster. Like others of his kind, he is distrusting of humanity's newfound alliance, to the point he clashes regularly with his compatriots, yet remains focused on the task at hand and how he can pull his weight as well as serve his purpose.
Throughout the season, Cyro 'Hazam acts as the primary voice of reason in times of crisis/stress. Despite being younger by his species' standards, he carries wisdom and an honor-bound code that grows into a strong source of support for his supersoldier allies in Zero Team.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Cyro's dialogue;
SCENE 1: HALFWAY THROUGH CYRO 'HAZAM'S INITIAL MEETUP WITH ZERO TEAM, BOTH SIDES WEARY OF AN INVOLUNTARY ALLIANCE.
Cyro ‘Hazam gives Frida a questioning look, unsure what she means. Valencia quickly catches, and steps in to reiterate.
VALENCIA
She means, what is the purpose of the Swords of Sanghelios?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
The purpose is to unite all of my kind under one banner. It is originally an ancient order, and was resurrected by the Arbiter, its current leader. Our efforts stand to bury the past of the Covenant’s reign behind us, and build towards a new future, on a foundation of peace.
HALBERT (ANNOYED)
Impressive. Two toes, four fingers, and a limitless amount of bullshit.
Halbert and Cyro ‘Hazam lock vision once more, tensions pulling like a magnet between the two.
VALENCIA (STERN)
Spartan-012. Stand. Down.
Halbert looks ever so slightly down, remaining silent.
VALENCIA
Excuse his behavior, Cyro ‘Hazam, it will just take some time to adjust to this change-
CYRO ‘HAZAM (ANNOYED)
Spare me your formalities. I am well aware of humanity’s harbored emotions. I would by lying if I said the feeling was not mutual.
RAIMUNDO
What do you mean? From what I’ve been told, your kind and ours came together when it benefitted the both of us. Why is this any different?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
The difference is that currently, the Swords of Sanghelios seek change from a lifetime of war. Humanity... seeks otherwise. I stand with the Arbiter, for he believes in peace through unity, to put aside our bloodshed and bring the beings of the galaxy together. Humanity, however...
Cyro ‘Hazam looks to his sides, focusing on the MP officers stationed on either side of the terminal, glaring over their held weaponry.
CYRO’ HAZAM (ANNOYED)
Believes in peace through force. What resources should be put into your families, your homes, your culture, is instead put into crafting new weapons, training new soldiers, building new warships. It seems that history is repeated, rather than learned from.
Valencia looks off to the side, unable to respond.
RAIMUNDO (SIGHS)
So if you’re not a fan, why’d you show up for an autograph? There has to be some part of this that matters to you, otherwise you wouldn’t be here at all.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
I care little for humanity. However, I care greatly for what the alliance between our kinds represents. To inform the galaxy that peace is truly possible in this age.
He glares over to Halbert. Cyro extends his arm, pointing one of his four elongated fingers, tipped with a sharp talon, in his direction before pointing it back towards himself.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
What this is... is not important to me. What it means, is important above all else.
VALENCIA (SPEAKING UP)
But then... why did the Swords of Sanghelios send you? Why not someone more... understanding?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
You would be surprised to learn I am one of the few who are more understanding of the idea. The rest of my people do not quite feel the same.
HALBERT
Sounds like you guys should have stuck with the Covenant, in that case.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
If that is what you believe, then you have no idea what the Covenant truly was, or why we joined with humanity to defeat them.
FRIDA (QUESTIONING)
Can I make a guess?
Both Valencia and Cyro ‘Hazam look in Frida’s direction, observing her behavior. Cyro ‘Hazam ponders, before giving her a slow nod.
FRIDA
You wanted to fight for something that you believed in. Something that mattered. Something that... you’ll be remembered by.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (LOW)
Hmph. There is more to it than that, but... a good “guess”.
RAIMUNDO
I’m sure it’ll make for some great campfire stories. In any case, I think we’ve made solid first impressions all around. Zero Team, fall in. We’re heading back planetside with our new... recruit.
FRIDA (ENCOURAGING)
Oh, yeah. You’ll love our base of operations. The official name is long and boring, but we like to call it, “The Pit”!
CYRO ‘HAZAM (SHAKING HIS HEAD)
Wonderful.
VALENCIA (NERVOUS)
Again, welcome, Cyro ‘Hazam...
SCENE 2: CYRO AND RAIMUNDO-035, COMMANDER OF ZERO TEAM, DISCUSS THE FALLOUT OF A RECENT COMBAT ENCOUNTER, AND CYRO'S WELL-BEING,
Behind him, Cyro walks to stand in the entrance of the ops center. Raimundo turns to notice him.
RAIMUNDO (FOCUSING)
Welcome back. Took you a while. How’d your side of patrolling go?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Uneventful. I was unable to track the escape of our remaining attackers.
RAIMUNDO (LOW)
Yeah, well... don’t beat yourself up about it. Something tells me we’ll see them again sooner or later.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
We should remain prepared. I must ask, with that in mind, how is the rest of your clan faring?
RAIMUNDO (CONFUSED)
Clan..?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
The other Spartans. They are the forces you command, no?
RAIMUNDO (SCOFFS)
More like babysitting at this point, so yes, they are. But don’t worry about them, they’re used to this. Been doing it for... a long time now. But, that’s neither here nor there. We should be asking how you’re holding up. You’ve had an eventful first few days, and I hope this hasn’t affected the intended purpose of your assignment too much. I know this all probably isn’t what you expected.
Cyro ‘Hazam looks to one of the computers on the side of the room, and walks towards it.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
I admit, I do not know what I should be expecting. This is all very… new, to me.
He observes it, the monitor lighting up with various data.
RAIMUNDO
What, working with others? You don’t really strike me as the “social” type, so that’s not surprising.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Alliances with other species are not unheard of within my kind. That is what the Covenant was, after all. But doing so with a former enemy is beyond my experience. Beyond my knowledge. And doing so with Spartans, no less, is beyond my better judgement.
Raimundo begins to pace, walking back and forth as he returns his thoughts.
RAIMUNDO
Working alongside those who used to be at the firing end of my weapon hasn’t been easy for me either. But we both have orders from our superiors. And we both know that regardless of whatever twists and turns we encounter... or whatever plasma rounds, or needler shards, or fuel rod artillery, or energy swords-
He stops, looking at Cyro ‘Hazam, who tilts his head ever so slightly.
RAIMUNDO
-Regardless of whatever opposition comes our way, let’s say, we both know keeping those superiors satisfied is what matters most. I don’t know much about the Arbiter or the Swords of Sanghelios, but I can imagine they run a tight ship with an assignment as sensitive as yours.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
The Arbiter and the Swords of Sanghelios do not think in such... absolute terms. They are well aware of the hardships that are placed on the path of peace between our kinds. The Provocateur and his Blades of Rebirth are simply one of them. Allying myself with Spartans is simply another. My conviction in this assignment, as well as how I am “holding up”, I believe was your phrase? That is no hardship. That is of no one’s concern but my own.
RAIMUNDO
Understood. Well, from one olive branch to another, let’s deal with those hardships together. So we can both keep our superiors satisfied.
Cyro ‘Hazam turns, his back facing towards Raimundo.
CYRO ‘HAZAM
Understood. I shall leave you to your duties. As the leader of this clan, I am sure you have many.
Cyro ‘Hazam begins to exit the ops center. Raimundo turns back towards the main three screens occupying the room.
RAIMUNDO (TO HIMSELF)
Oh, you have no idea.
Cyro ‘Hazam stops for a moment, looking back over his shoulder to ponder.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (CURIOUS)
Hmm…

This is a long-term role, as the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story will be told over multiple seasons. If you have any questions regarding the role or the project, just let me know!
Colonel Caden Duncan is a secondary character in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story. A high-ranking member within the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Colonel Duncan is the primary liaison for supersoldier unit for Zero Team, and passes down orders to them, while following his own chain of command.
Throughout the season, Colonel Duncan has his own arc of struggle, primarily with his own commanding officer, Admiral Margaret Parangosky. Duncan regularly clashes with both her as well as Zero Team, searching for what the meaning of his place in the whirlwind of events happening is. A true purveyor of knowledge, to his own detriment at times.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Colonel Duncan's dialogue;
SCENE 1: COLONEL DUNCAN QUESTIONS ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY'S AUTHORITY AND HIS PLACE WITHIN HER INSTRUCTIONS.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
I’d say that went about as well as expected. Wouldn’t you, Colonel?
COLONEL DUNCAN
Admiral... with all due respect, what exactly have you given me?
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY (CURIOUS)
Whatever do you mean?
Colonel Duncan smirks, albeit frustrated, before folding his hands on the wooden desk and leaning into his monitor.
COLONEL DUNCAN
We both know that I submitted my request to exit active duty when the Covenant War ended, correct?
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
Your point?
COLONEL DUNCAN (FRUSTRATED)
Just pointing something out. Following that, I instead receive very strange orders to take up an office job as administrator of this very orbital station and its accompanying space elevator. Simple enough. However, I am also ordered to survey one extremely restricted cargo hold in particular, with nothing further beyond, quote unquote, “keep an eye on it”. Sound familiar?
Colonel Duncan waits for a response, his hands fidgeting as they fold over one another repeatedly. Admiral Parangosky remains silent. Colonel Duncan lightly gulps, before continuing.
COLONEL DUNCAN (CONTINUING)
...Lo and behold, this very cargo hold contains none other than a Spartan unit, in which you immediately order to be inserted as the first official joint operation between the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios. And now, what, I’m expected to babysit them? If I had known all of this was in the fine print, I might have given second thoughts about taking this position.
After a light pause, Admiral Parangosky speaks up.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY (CONDESCENDING)
Caden Duncan. We both know you sacrificed your right to curiosity many years ago. Sound familiar?
Colonel Duncan’s eyes widen ever so slightly.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
Now, if you’re going to work with me on this, all you have to worry about is to do as you are told, do not ask questions, and get a paycheck out of it. And we both know that’s more than good enough for you, isn’t it?
Colonel Duncan remains silent, and shifts his vision from the monitor to his desk, folding his hands under his nose.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
I’m glad you agree. Will that be all for now?
COLONEL DUNCAN (LOWLY)
Yes, ma’am.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
Good. Now that we have that cleared up, I have our next step for this “Zero Team” ready. The dossier will be sent to you momentarily. Prep your unit and deploy them as soon as they are debriefed. Inform me on the results.
As Admiral Parangosky speaks, Colonel Duncan’s tablet lights up with a notification, vibrating. He glances over, and reaches to hold it within his hands, reading the new information.
COLONEL DUNCAN (REALIZING)
Wait, a deployment? So soon? Aren’t we moving a little fast with this unit, Admiral? They’ve only exited cryosleep hours ago-
Admiral Parangosky cuts him off.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
Time is the one weapon of war neither side can replenish, Colonel. You cannot reload it, you cannot recruit it, you cannot build it. The more effectively we use it, the more difficult it becomes for the enemies of humanity to do so.
COLONEL DUNCAN (MONOTONE)
Understood.
ADMIRAL PARANGOSKY
Now, as I said, prep your unit. I will be waiting for the results.
The call is disconnected.
COLONEL DUNCAN (TO HIMSELF)
Goddamn spook.
Colonel Duncan places his tablet back on his table, before reaching to his keyboard, and begins to navigate his personal computer, fixated on the last frame of Zero Team from the security footage feed before they exited Orbital. The view slowly pans out as he investigates on his computer, intently.
COLONEL DUNCAN
Her errand run can wait. What I need to figure out... is just who are you, Zero Team..?
SCENE 2: COLONEL DUNCAN HANDS ZERO TEAM THEIR FIRST MISSION AFTER GATHERING THEIR RANKS, AND DETAILS THE SPECIFICS AT HAND.
Zero Team gathers, lined up and awaiting the Colonel’s briefing.
VALENCIA (SPEAKING UP)
We are all present and await your orders, Colonel.
COLONEL DUNCAN
Good, we might as well cut right to the chase. Zero Team, it’s been decided that you are to be deployed on your first mission since exiting cryosleep and adding Cyro ‘Hazam to your ranks.
Halbert shivers.
HALBERT
A mission? Shouldn’t we have more time to become rehabilitated? We were in cryosleep for an extended period of time, after all...
COLONEL DUNCAN
This is a very simple op, Spartan. You see, ONI has concerns over some... visitors, that have overstayed their welcome. We need you to find out why.
RAIMUNDO
What do you mean, Colonel?
Colonel Duncan brings up an image on one of the additional monitors. It showcases the Arbiter, shaking hands with a UNSC official, dressed in a cleanly pressed white uniform and cap. They stand atop a grassy hillside, basked in an orange sunset, piercing through clouds.
In front of them both is a memorial, a large structure adorned with photos of Marine soldiers and their personal belongings.
COLONEL DUNCAN
Towards the end of the war, the UNSC’s alliance with the Arbiter, along with the Sangheili who followed him, led to them setting up shop on Earth, to support us against the Covenant’s assault. As we all know, those efforts concluded in victory. However, once the war ended, the Arbiter promptly rounded up his soldiers and returned to their home planet, Sanghelios. Well, most of his soldiers.
Another image is showcased, this time on the final, third monitor. It showcases an Elite soldier, conversing with two more as they stand grouped together, yet armed with Plasma weaponry. The soldiers’ combat harnesses are colored in a dark steel coloration, with violet accents.
The photograph itself is taken in between thick blades of grass, capturing the moment in secrecy.
COLONEL DUNCAN
Our concern is that not all of them have left. For some reason, a section of the Sangheili forces remained here, on Earth. Locals in the area, who deem the area “Ghost Town”, only reported their appearance recently, meaning they’ve been hiding out for quite some time now. The problem is that our reconnaissance unit, known as “ONI Recon 111”, can’t get close enough to investigate further.
Zero Team absorbs the imagery, curious. Frida speaks up.
FRIDA
And... let me guess.
COLONEL DUNCAN
That’s where you come in. Zero Team, your orders are to survey these visitors, record any intel that may be of importance, and report back here.
CYRO ‘HAZAM (CURIOUS)
Hmm...
RAIMUNDO
That’s it?
COLONEL DUNCAN (FIRM)
That’s it. No further action is required. For now, at least.
Halbert thinks for a moment, before speaking up.
HALBERT
Are there any persons of interest that we should keep an eye out for, Colonel?
COLONEL DUNCAN
Well, I was going to upload it to your heads-up-displays once you were deployed, but here works as well.
Colonel Duncan presents another image. This one presents a singular soldier, albeit at a strange angle, and from a distance. The soldier’s color pallet is reversed from that of the previous ones, primarily having a violet coloration with steel accents.
Their helmet is unique, its curves and crevices flowing into a singular point towards the back. The front visor is vibrant, glowing with four distinct lights acting as “eyes”. The rest of the armor is adorned in similar lights, paired with bulky yet sleek plating. On their hip rests the hilt of another Energy Sword weapon.
COLONEL DUNCAN
This is one individual that our data has recorded as issuing orders to other soldiers, and taking “command”, more or less. They seem to get around pretty fast, however, since there have been sightings of them in numerous locations in short spans of time. It’s unknown if this individual will be present at the location we’re deploying you, but it never hurts to keep watch. They do have a certain weight in the chain of command, from what we can tell.
HALBERT (LOW)
Understood.
VALENCIA
Colonel, I can’t help but say I’m a little confused. I thought our alliance was with the Sangheili race as a whole. Why are we in the dark about a section of them and their activities?
CYRO ‘HAZAM
While the Arbiter has united many of our kind under the Swords of Sanghelios, there are those of us who struggle to release their lust for power. We served in the Covenant for centuries before our war with humanity, to expect it all to be left behind is... bold. But... we must try.
COLONEL DUNCAN
If it gets to that point, I’ll make sure you get to have a stern conversation with them. For now, again, this deployment is strictly surveillance. This visit might not mean anything at all. But report back anything of importance. I’ll be uploading the coordinates to your heads-up-displays shortly. Good luck, Zero Team.
The call disconnects. Zero Team looks at each other to gather their thoughts.

The Provocateur is a secondary character in the ARTIFICIAL FAULTS story, and the main antagonist of the first season. An aspiring revolutionary, the Provocateur's ultimate goal is fill the power vacuum in the galaxy, and have his actions result in his own species' rule of the galaxy, hoping his smaller actions will bring enough of them to rise up in the face of an alliance which he believes will spell certain doom.
However, aspiring is the key word. The Provocateur struggles to balance being the leader his cause requires, and being the leader his soldiers respond to. Caught in a struggle of being better than those who have come before him, or embracing their reign of tyranny, he seeks change for the galaxy through any means necessary.
These are the following audition scenes, you only have to read Provocateur's dialogue;
SCENE 1: PROVOCATEUR REGROUPS WITH TWO OF HIS CAPTAINS AS THEY PROVIDE A MISSION REPORT, AS THEY ARE UNSURE OF THEIR FATE.
Within a communications broadcast, Provocateur holds a conversation with another of his soldiers.
PROVOCATEUR
And our Scavengers? How goes their efforts?
ELITE SOLDIER 6
They have not reported in for a few cycles, but their last status indicated they are nearing another possible weapons cache. Despite the war’s end, humanity’s progression for the “cleanup” of their world remains idle.
PROVOCATEUR
Which is precisely where we insert ourselves.
ELITE SOLDIER 6
Indeed. We have collected a vast array of weaponry since our stationing on this planet. Our strength increases.
PROVOCATEUR
The time to bolster our actions with this arsenal is already upon us. What is the status on our relocation efforts? The Augury of Edict has served us well as our base of operations since we remained on this planet after the war’s end, but its energy signatures are bound to be detected by the humans eventually.
ELITE SOLDIER 6
By your own command, none of our forces shall begin to move until this warship is fully dormant and undetectable. However, we currently struggle with the completion of engine deactivation. There are many automated systems we do not quite understand yet. Such tasks were reserved for the Huragok, our Engineers during our time in the Covenant.
PROVOCATEUR
I understand. They served their purpose, after all. If there is any instance in which my aid is required, inform me. I will do what I can.
ELITE SOLDIER 6
By your word, Provocateur. Is there anything else you wish to discuss?
The Provocateur shifts his vision away from the projection of Earth. He takes a few steps to the opposite end of the table, thinking for a moment.
PROVOCATEUR (LOW)
No. That is all.
The communications cut.
Provocateur looks back towards the projection of Earth. He shakes his head, huffing.
PROVOCATEUR (ANNOYED)
Hmph.
He begins to walks towards the front of the ship’s bridge, directly in front of the outside view.
Provocateur looks up at Earth’s bright blue sky, engulfed in its hue.
He reaches out. He lifts his four-fingered hand high above his head, pressed against the durable glass protecting him from the elements.
He continues to stare, lost in gaze. Provocateur does not observe Earth’s sky. He looks past. Far past.
Suddenly, the main entrance to the bridge whirrs and thrusts itself open automatically to make way for Xoto and Kryda.
The Provocateur looks over his shoulder, before releasing his hand from the glass, and turning to face his soldiers. The pair and their commander speak up as they continue to walk towards each other, meeting face to face.
PROVOCATEUR (BOLD)
Xoto ‘Sakunom. Kryda ‘Grazam. Welcome. How are you? I understand it was quite a journey back to return here.
XOTO (LOW)
We are... well.
KRYDA
The journey was no matter. I have studied this land well enough to traverse with ease.
PROVOCATEUR
That is pleasing to hear. The better we understand the enemy’s home, the better we understand them.
Xoto and Kryda remain silent, looking off to the side. The Provocateur ever so slightly tilts his head, confused.
PROVOCATEUR
I am also aware you two return from your deployment. Placed on the trail of our attackers from our previous encampment. What are the results?
Xoto and Kryda look at each other, worried. They think for a moment, before Xoto speaks up.
XOTO (WORRIED)
It... did not go as expected. We lost many of our soldiers. The Spartans and their aid from one of the Arbiter’s own were more... formidable, than we expected.
PROVOCATEUR (STERN)
A great cost. We will honor them in time. And our adversaries? What of them?
KRYDA (LOW)
They grow... stronger. More skilled. We failed to claim any of their lives. A thousand apologies, Provocateur...
Kryda bows his head. Xoto notices, and does the same.
They await a response. Initially, Provocateur gives no response.
Seconds feel like days for Xoto and Kryda as they await their judgement.
It arrives.
The Provocateur places his hand on Kryda’s shoulder, between the armored plates of his combat harness.
PROVOCATEUR
You have done well. If our combat with these adversaries has elevated, that means everything is going according to plan.
Xoto and Kryda raise their heads, looking at each other in confusion, before back to the Provocateur.
XOTO (QUESTIONING)
According to plan..?
PROVOCATEUR
Yes. The more ferocity and resources that are poured into our conflict with them, there will only be more eyes that will witness it. It comes at an immediate cost, but it is one I know we will see fulfilled in our future.
KRYDA (PLEADING)
But... we have failed you! We have squandered our chance at glory and accomplishment. Surely there is wrath you wish to inflict upon us.
PROVOCATEUR (CONFUSED)
Glory?
XOTO (CORRECTING)
Your response is... unexpected, Provocateur, that is all. Many thanks for your praise. We will return to our stations and prepare our next move. Come, Kryda.
They both bow their heads once more, before turning to leave. The Provocateur watches in silence, turning himself back to the width of the ship’s bridge, pondering.
SCENE 2: PROVOCATEUR EDUCATES HIS SOLDIERS, PROVIDING THEM INSIGHT INTO THE ART OF WAR AND THE WEAPONS THEY USE.
Suddenly, behind the gathering chimes in the Provocateur’s low, gravelly trill itself.
PROVOCATEUR (ENCOURAGING)
No, no, by all means. Continue the demonstration. Don’t mind me.
The four Elites, startled, turn quickly, straightening themselves immediately in their leader’s presence. He stands tall, the four familiar lights lining across the front of his helmet glowing strongly as ever.
KRYDA
Provocateur! A thousand apologies... we were simply... testing the new arsenal brought to us by the Scavengers since their return. Following, I was to inform you directly after we were sure of their operating ability.
The Provocateur approaches the gathering as Kryda explains.
PROVOCATEUR
But of course. If we are to use these new additions in our efforts, there is no use in a weapon that has been rusted and rendered by the ever-constant passing of time.
He looks down at the remaining weapons. One final choice in the pile remains untested; a mighty, radiating block with various curves and accents sits idly. A very long handle protrudes from the bottom of it, requiring a user’s full strength and size to handle. Yet another blade rests opposite its glowing points.
PROVOCATEUR
Hmph. I am quite familiar with this one. Tuza, if you would?
Tuza walks over, and reaches over to grasp the weapon. He heaves it, requiring both hands of his strength to properly handle it. He lifts it, the largest block high above his head. Kryda looks over, lowly growling.
PROVOCATEUR
Tell me, are any of you aware of this weapon’s title?
ELITE SOLDIER 4
Yes. That... is known as the Gravity Hammer.
PROVOCATEUR
Indeed. In the Covenant, only the most ferocious and prestigious of the Jiralhanae... or the Brutes, as you prefer to call them, were allowed to wield these. They viewed it as a symbol of those attributes. It is a blunt, yet highly destructive tool. Though I despise the beasts.... they are quite effective at craftsmanship.
Kryda speaks up, to compliment the Provocateur.
KRYDA
Indeed! Most fitting insight to be proclaimed by yourself, Provocateur.
Tuza looks towards Kryda in confusion, shaking his head.
PROVOCATEUR
Ease yourself, Kryda. Now, Tuza, describe it to us. How does the hammer feel in your grasp?
TUZA
It is... potent. It is of great strength, and is eager to release that strength.
KRYDA (CHIMING IN)
Precisely modeled after their creators who wielded it. However, just as their most skilled could release great strength, they must also be aware when to reserve it.
PROVOCATEUR
Intriguing responses, the both of you. However, there is one key element that differs how the Brutes this weapon, and how we use it. Can any one of you describe it?
The Elites look around at each other, confused.
ELITE SOLDIER 2
We are... unsure, Provocateur.
PROVOCATEUR
The answer is this; The Brutes would have you believe that same ferocity and prestige are necessary to wield the Gravity Hammer and its power. However, as Tuza will show us...
The Provocateur nods towards Tuza. He nods in response, and heaves the weapon in his grip. Tuza swings the hammer away from the group, and pounds it on the ground beneath. A shockwave emits from the frontal block, gravity itself distorting around the area. Various leaves and branches fly in different directions, and Tuza himself is lifted off the ground but for a moment as the weapon releases a charge.
PROVOCATEUR
It is not. In the hands of the Brutes, as I said, it is a symbol of those attributes. In our hands, it is only a highly destructive tool.
The Elite soldiers listen intently, focused directly on Provocateur as he speaks to them.
PROVOCATEUR
Whereas the Brutes were blinded and blunted with such petty nonsense while they were within the Covenant’s armada... we are focused. We are precise. We see past the need to place this weapon in our minds as a “symbol”. All we see… is a tool. And all we require to use it, is our focus. Our precision. Our mission. With these attributes, we may use any tool we desire while we remain on this planet. Do you understand?
The Elites take but a moment to absorb the information, before gazing back upon the Provocateur in unison.
KRYDA (BOWING HIS HEAD)
Yes, Provocateur! Glory to your wisdom!
A second Elite joins Kryda in bowing his head. Soon after, the third, as well as Tuza, follow.
PROVOCATEUR (CONCERNED)
Hmm...
KRYDA (RAISING HIS HEAD)
Come, you three! Let us share this wisdom with the others of our ranks.
TUZA (SARCASTIC)
Of course, Kryda. Lead us.
The group begins to head back towards the Augury of Edict, newly grasped Brute weapons in hand.
Provocateur gazes upon the group as they leave, before sanding along under the shadow of his warship. He briefly reaches outward to address them, but stops himself.
These are scenes that encapsulate the range of the Provocateur's character and the expectations to set within his role! If you have any further questions or thoughts regarding this, please let me know!
