A Dead Rose │ Animatic for Series Pitch
Project Overview
When Rose is dragged into the depths of Hell during her 16th birthday party, her older brother, John, decides he ought to go save her; however, he begins to wonder if it’s really worth the effort.
A Dead Rose is a series created by Alex Kaplan, senior film student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Originally meant to be a live-action film, the spring 2020 production was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the summer our team has worked incredibly hard to instead turn the concept into a limited animated series that will be pitched around during the summer of 2021. We are beyond excited for this new journey and are looking for some key roles to help bring the world (or underworld - we should say) of this series to life!
We are currently searching for some talented voice actors to bring to life our characters who will appear within the animatic! All roles will be paid, and rates are negotiable.
Audition Guidelines
Audio quality is a must with this project. We heavily prefer XLR microphones, though we are willing to accept USB microphones if they are treated well. No pops, hisses or background noise. Any auditions with any of these three things will be automatically rejected.
You may audition for as many characters as you wish!
Maximum of three takes per line, please.
If you have Discord, please attach your name to your audition. We would love to add you to our Discord to be able to communicate with you! If necessary, we can also communicate with you through CCC or other preferred methods if cast.
Please submit your auditions in mp3 or wav format.
Label your files as, “DR_CharacterName_YourName” (Example - “DR_Demon1_JohnSmith”)
The hope is to have this ready and recorded by mid December. Please keep this in mind before auditioning!
Most importantly, have fun with it!
Summary
During a birthday party, the birthday girl, Rose, was dragged into a portal that led to the depths of Hell after a mishap with a Ouija board. Her brother, John, must now go after her and bring her back. However, John recounts all the attempts he’s made to make his sister happy and how each time he was left completely unappreciated and barely acknowledged. Regardless, he never seemed to be able to make his sister happy. Nobody could. Rose’s expectancy for greater and greater things only left her wanting more and more. After quite the journey throughout Hell and meeting a variety of lost souls or demons, John finds Rose with a whole new look, going by the name Angel, and sitting upon Hell’s throne. Seeing that she is having a good time continuing her birthday celebration with a group of demons, he realizes that this is the happiest he’s ever seen her. John ultimately makes the decision to leave her and return home.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
This female demon has the task of answering summonses from spirit boards from the world of the living. It becomes a mind-numbing job with constantly answering questions like “Are you here?” and “Do you mean us harm?” This has made her all-around frustrated and irritable, but she knows the job needs to be done and strictly sticks to protocol. She dresses to be noticed as someone powerful, but she only has aggression to back that up.
VOCAL DIRECTIONDemon #1 is very stern and firmly projected, but yelling in frustration for thousands of years has developed a slight rasp in her throat. The following accents are preferred, but we are open to any interpretation someone may want to bring to the character: English, Scottish, Irish, or Welsh.
(Confronting the protagonist, John, about how he got into Hell)
Wait, this can’t be right. You’re not supposed to be here. There’s no way some store-bought spirit board could open up a whole portal. Those things can barely sustain a solid line of communication. Unless, you aren’t dumb enough to make a board yourself, are you? Whatever. In either case, you’re trespassing. You need to leave!
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Rose is the daughter that her mother always wanted: precious, spoiled, and special. Rose grew up knowing she was all of these things, and likes to make sure everyone else knows, too. She believes the world exists to serve her needs, likening herself to a princess whose every demand must be met. Her brother, John, tries to earn her approval through his own special means of wood carving. But Rose has little care for wooden things, thus little care for her older brother. She only wants people to treat her the way she ought to be treated: a precious little angel.
VOCAL DIRECTIONRose isn’t your typical bratty teenager. She won’t stamp her feet and scream at you to get what she wants. She’ll find just the right cold and cutting words to say in order to put you in your place. She carries an air of calm, collected, rather chilling arrogance that self-appointed royalty should.
(In response to her brother, John, gifting her with a handmade spirit board)
Is it done yet? If this turns into a slumber party, I need to have it. (receives hand-carved spirit board) Look at my face. Do you know what this face means? You know what it means. I mean, you’ve seen it so many times. Like when you made this stupid tiara. And all your other dumb “gifts.” I’ve only ever made one face. (looks closer at the spirit board). John. What. The hell. Is that? Is that blood? You know what, no. Forget it. They’re gonna be here any minute. It’s not like you can ruin another before then. God, I wish I could go someplace where people actually do as I say and do things right.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
As an accidental child, John has faced much neglect from his mother. He had to find comfort on his own, and he found that comfort through making things. This started with doodles he would show to his mother if she ever took the time to notice. On the rare occasion his mother would show some form of approval or appreciation, John craved approval from other people more and more, if only to feel a bit more special.
VOCAL DIRECTIONThere are still remnants of child-like wonder, but much of it has been stilted by constant rejection from his mother. Thus his childish voice is not as loud and playful as others his age; it is relatively low (for a child, anyway), like he is afraid to appear too passionate about anything. After all, his passions have never seen any sort of support.
(Thinking of a name for his new baby sister)
I like Rose. I mean, I like roses. They’re pretty and have a bright color. And they’re really really precious. So if my sister’s name is Rose, I can take extra good care of her to make her feel really really special.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
The Doorman is a demon that mans the door of one of Hell’s castles. He is dedicated to his duties and maintains formality at all times. He is patient and listens well when there are complications with one of Hell’s wandering souls trying to get into the castle, but he is strict about the rules that only fellow demons are allowed entry. His long, bearded, stoic face alone commands a sort of authority. And his high-class tuxedo uniform exudes his importance.
VOCAL DIRECTIONThe Doorman’s voice is deep and thunderous so that when he speaks you are very much inclined to listen. There is still a gentleness and consideration in the way he speaks, though. Like a wise grandfather.
(When John asks him if he’s seen Rose)
Your sister, you say? It wouldn’t happen to be that girl in there, would it? Sitting in her throne? To think, she only came here because of a birthday wish. We were only going to give her a little. But she acted so entitled, like she was meant to be here. I’m beginning to think she does belong here. She seems to be something special. However, you don’t seem special. You don’t seem to be entitled. I don’t think you’re supposed to be here.
