Son was shown to be sadistic and cruel, as seen in the flashbacks of Mother's memories when he openly taunted and enjoyed the physical and verbal abuse she was being put through by Rui and Father, while addressing them formally as his parents, showing that he sadistically enjoyed playing the part of being in a "family". Similarly to Father, he was extremely loyal to Rui's cause and played his role as an elder brother in his family without question.
Like most demons, he hated humans; he was responsible for a great number of people transforming into spiders and even ruled over them, making them servants when their mental intellect eventually faded away with their transformation. His taunting and prideful nature was also evident when he continually prodded and mocked Zenitsu Agatsuma over his impending fate as a spider.
Son was also shown to be arrogant and brash, openly insulting his attacker's ability to do just one form and becoming enraged at the thought of dying at the hands of someone he thought so lowly of. In spite of his pride and confidence in himself, he became fearful upon seeing Zenitsu's true power being used and desperately tried to flee back into his house.

He’s been going into that same stance over and over. (Chuckles) Ah, I know why he’s doing that.
You’re not much of a threat, are you? And you call yourself a Demon slayer?
(Gagging) (Note: His head was just chopped off) Did I get slashed? Me? It can’t be!
Jigoro had a steadfast devotion to his students and strict training. Despite his status as a strong mentor and experience as a previous Hashira, he had a soft spot and unwavering dedication towards raising the next generation of students. Due to this passionate devotion, he was filled with grief after discovering that his former pupil, Kaigaku, betrayed the Demon Slayer Corps and joined the ranks of the Twelve Kizuki.
Zenitsu Agatsuma noted that, despite how often he whined and ran away, Jigoro never gave up on him once. He had saved Zenitsu from a lifetime of debt and taken him on as a student, and, showing unyielding patience, was happy just to see Zenitsu master the first form of his breathing technique. He had a great belief in training skills to perfect through repetition comparing it to forging and purifying the steel of their swords. This strong fatherly love for his students is further shown when he shown to be both flattered and touched by Zenitsu's declaration of his love and gratefulness for all of his efforts put into forcing Zenitsu to improve himself despite everyone else abandoning him and deeming him worthless.

Do you know what the process of forging a sword is?
Zenitsu, perfect it! It’s all right to cry or go off by yourself.
Believe in yourself. You endured all that hellish training. You’ll be rewarded for that without question.
Though outwardly brash and arrogant, Kaigaku is in fact cowardly and selfish. Like many orphans living on the streets, he grew up resorting to thievery and other immoral means to survive. He even goes so far as to sacrifice the lives of all the orphans under Gyomei's care to save his own skin. This has caused him to develop an intense form of self-preservation, often doing what in his own best interest at the expense of others.
At some point after this, Kaigaku met and became the disciple of Jigoro Kuwajima. Because of his great talent with a sword, he was poised to become the next Thunder Hashira. However, unlike other orphans who join the Corps, Kaigaku never developed a desire to slay demons or protect people. When confronted with a stronger opponent, Kaigaku quickly surrendered. Furthermore, he seems to have developed a sense of hypocritical self-righteousness. He called Zenitsu Agatsuma trash for having no pride or guts and was repulsed at the idea of succeeding Jigoro along with him. Kaigaku also seems to have a twisted perspective of 'right' and 'wrong', believing that those who judge him right (i.e., say he is worthy) are good and those who judge him wrong and have a low estimation of him are evil. Additionally, he also has an inflated ego, viewing himself as a special and gifted person.

You gonna make me repeat myself? Leave my sight.
(Scoffs) Good for nothing.
The time he spends training you is all for nothing. It’s infuriating to see! I hate even looking at you, so get out!
