The Lunar Chronicles: The Fanmade Audio Drama Season 2
Project Overview
Hi there!
Welcome to the casting call for The Lunar Chronicles: The Audio Drama. Please read the entire description before submitting your audition.
Overview-
This project is a fanmade audio drama adaptation of the bestselling book series, The Lunar Chronicles. The novels adapt classic fairytales into sci-fi thrillers with a dash of political drama. With this project, we plan to adapt the series into four seasons of an audio drama podcast, each season focusing on one novel in the series. We are currently in the process of recording and editing our first season and are currently looking to cast the second. We are looking for actors for leading, supporting, and featured roles. This project is unpaid, as this is fan work, and we do not plan to gain anything financially.
Synopsis-
Our second season continues the story of the first with a new protagonist, Scarlet Benoit, who lives in France and is searching for her missing grandmother. She crosses paths with Wolf, a street fighter with a mysterious past, and they embark on a journey to find Scarlet's grandmother. Meanwhile, Cinder, the protagonist from the first season, is on the run and teams up with the charming but roguish Carswell Thorne. Together, they try to evade capture and find the missing Princess Selene, the only person who can usurp the throne of Queen Levana, a tyrant and dictator who plans to wage war on all Earthen nations. As the story unfolds, the characters' paths intertwine as they uncover secrets about Scarlet's grandmother, Wolf's true nature, and the sinister plans of Queen Levana.
Audition Guidelines-
As this is an unpaid project, we understand that many people auditioning may not have professional voiceover setups. However, to match the audio quality of the rest of our performers, we request that you have a USB or XLR Mic. We ask that anyone auditioning for a lead role (Scarlet, Wolf, Thorne) be 18+ and 16+ for all other roles. Submissions will close on April 1st at 11:30 PM PST. Please feel free to audition for as many characters as you would like, and remember that the age range posted is the age of the character, not the actor. Record 1-2 takes for each line in an "A A B B C C" format, please. Lastly, even if you're not incredibly familiar with the accents listed for the characters, we encourage you to look them up and give them a try. They're fairly easy accents to familiarize yourself with, and you never know how quickly you may be able to pick it up.
Recording Process
All recordings are done asynchronously. We provide directional notes on the script and are open to any questions our actors may have. If necessary, we will only request one retape for a line and will try to provide the scene partner’s recordings whenever possible.
Thank you for reading all of this! We're looking forward to hearing your auditions.

With a personality as fiery as her bright red hair, Scarlet never hesitates to speak her mind. Despite growing up spoiled in Paris, she learned how to shoot a gun, hunt, and take care of herself after moving onto her grandmother’s farm and is an incredibly self-sufficient 18-year-old. She’s stubborn to a fault and refuses to take the police for their word when they say her missing grandmother simply ran away. She teams up with a mysterious streetfighter, Wolf, who seems to have answers about her grandmother’s whereabouts. Through spending time with him, she realizes that maybe some of the defensive walls she’s built up over the years can finally come down.

(Context for Line 1- Scarlet notices a bug on her father planted by the people who kidnapped her grandmother. She figures it’s transmitting audio to the kidnappers and speaks directly into it.) I don’t know what the hell you want, but I swear, if you even lay one finger on my grand-mère, I will hunt every last one of you down and snap your necks like the chickens you are!
(Context for Line 2- Scarlet has opened up to Wolf about her upbringing, something she’s never done to anyone else before.) Yeah. Life's funny that way. (Beat.) Mamie is the closest thing I have to a mom. When I lived with my papa, I would throw tantrums and scream just to get his attention. When I moved in with Mamie, She treated me like I mattered… like everything I said was worthwhile. I didn’t have to act like a spoiled brat to have her see me. (Beat.) So, yeah, not getting along with your parents is something we have in common.
(Context for Line 3- Scarlet is taken to see her grandmother after being imprisoned by the group who kidnapped her. She is openly crying.) After Papa told me what happened, I had to find you. Are you alright? Are you hurt? (Beat.) Good. I’m getting us both out of here. I promise. God, I’ve missed you so much.
We first meet Wolf, née Ze’ev Kesley, as a skilled streetfighter following the fighting rings to Scarlet’s small town. Despite his imposing frame and scarred face, he is quiet, kind, and has a good sense of humor. When Scarlet realizes he used to be part of a group that kidnapped her grandmother, he volunteers to take her to Paris to help get her grand-mère back. He hides the fact that he’s still part of that group, a pack of genetically engineered super soldiers who are torturing her grandmother for information. Wolf’s assignment is to trick Scarlet and manipulate her into coming with him to Paris so the group can also imprison her. Throughout their journey, however, Wolf begins to fall for Scarlet and questions whether his loyalty should remain to his pack or the girl who has shown him more kindness than he’s ever experienced.

(Context for Line 1- Scarlet confronts Wolf at gunpoint about her grandmother’s disappearance. He tries to talk her down so he can properly begin his mission. (French Accent)) I didn’t kidnap your grandmother. But if it really was someone with the same tattoo as me, I may be able to help you figure out who did. (Beat.) I’ve been AWOL for two weeks, your grandmother and father wouldn’t recognize me. I promise. I want to help you.
(Context for Line 2- Scarlet and Wolf are sharing a quiet moment in the woods, and Scarlet asks him about the scars on his body. They’re from fights with his fellow soldiers. (French Accent)) Scarlet, please. Please stop. These scars… they’re just what I’m used to. They’re all from some kind of fight. Stupid, pointless fights.
(Context for Line 3- Wolf brought Scarlet back to his group’s HQ and is speaking with his superior, Master Jael. (Cockney Accent)) I have questioned her to the best of my ability. She seems to have limited knowledge, and what memories she does have seem unreliable. I wouldn’t trust any verbal testimony given under duress. I’m certain she would lie if it would benefit her grandmother.
As an experienced thief, Thorne is used to getting out of sticky situations using his good looks and charisma. His confidence often spills over into arrogance, much to the annoyance of everyone around him, though his sense of humor and dramatics usually make up for it. Despite all this, he is a genuinely kind person and loves giving (mostly unsuccessful) pep talks. His bravado is shown to be a facade as the series continues, and he meets Cress, an eccentric girl whom he learns to genuinely care for.

(Context for Line 1- One of our other leads just fell through the ceiling of Thorne’s prison cell, and she asks why he’s in there.) Yeah, these cells aren’t supposed to be occupied, but I have special circumstances. (Beat.) Thank you, but no. I’m not in for murder. I started a riot in the yard. We were protesting the soap. (Beat.) The soap. It’s too drying.
(Context for Line 2- Thorne is helping some of the other characters who just survived a horrific attack. They’re all on his space ship, which is more of a flying bachelor pad than a sci-fi marvel. ) Guys! Stop bleeding all over my ship! This is the second time this week, and guess who has to clean up? Me! (beat.) Iko, remind me to make some signs. Blood-Free Zone.
(Context for Line 3- Thorne just kissed a woman who used her powers (called a Glamour) to make herself look like the woman he’s in love with, Cress. Cress couldn’t see the Glamour and is angry.) Cress. She looked like you. The girl in the hallway- she wasn’t brunette or tall to me. She must’ve seen us walking together. Maybe she saw the way I looked at you or something, I don’t know, but she knew… she made her glamour look like you.
Ran is Wolf’s biological brother and is part of the same militant group as him. His superiors send him to ensure Wolf’s mission is successful, and he interacts with him and Scarlet multiple times. While on his mission, he is charming and suave, with a personality that could disarm even the most guarded person. However, when back at his group’s HQ, he is cold and calculating, enjoying inflicting pain on his prisoners.

(Context for Line 1- Ran meets Scarlet undercover on a train to Paris. They’re in the dining car, and Ran glances at her portscreen (phone) and notices she’s Googling the military group he’s a part of. (French Accent)) That’s quite the search. Try a band of lupine lawbreakers. ‘Righteous werewolf wannabes’ seems a little off the mark. (to Dining Car Attendant.) A glass of Chardonnay, please.
(Context for Line 2- Ran and Wolf are part of a group that is attacking the citizens of Paris. Wolf refuses to kill Scarlet and tells Ran to let her go. (Cockney accent.)) And let you embarrass me- embarrass our family- with your newfound sympathy? Our orders are to kill every human we see. Now, unless you’re going to come over here and rip out her throat yourself, stand aside so I may follow our mission.

And he’s been here almost every day this week, and he keeps sitting in my section, which definitely means something, don’t you think? (Beat.) He’s always quiet. I think he’s lonely.

You have to leave me here, Scarlet. You have to get out. (Scarlet begins to sob.) Come here, my love.
(Context for Line 2- Immediately after the last line, one of Michelle and Scarlet’s captors finds them. Michelle stands up to him.) I remember you. You were with the ones who came for me. (To Scarlet.) Don’t worry about him, Scarlet. He must have been left behind, because he’s too weak to join the battle. (To the captor.) You are nothing. Nothing but a puppet for your master to control.
Although her whimsical nature often causes others to overlook her, Winter is intelligent and finds creative solutions to her problems. She is very kind, forgiving, and sympathetic, treating everyone with respect despite being royalty. Winter keeps a positive outlook on life and exudes an elegant aura, which draws people towards her. Unfortunately, she suffers from a form of psychosis and frequently experiences hallucinations, which has caused her to be perceived as an embarrassment to her court.

The chandelier, too, and it’s on my shoulder, and I think it’s staining my shoes. I can smell it and taste it, and why—(Her voice breaks. Beat.) Why does the palace hurt so much, Jacin?
(Context for Line 2- Winter is trying to get a pack of aggressive genetically engineered soldiers on her side.) I know you still want to eat us- we must be tender morsels to you. But if you choose to help us, you will receive more than just a morsel. You can feast on the queen herself. And wouldn’t that be more satisfying? (Beat.) Fight with me. I will not control or harm you. You will have your freedom.
(Context for Line 3- Winter playfully asks Jacin to help her assemble her model solar system. However, he is concerned about leaving his guard post.) I hoped you might be able to help me with Saturn. It’s the last one to be painted, and I thought I could take the rings, if you want to do the planet… (Beat.) Don’t be silly, it may be improper for a princess to be alone with a guard with questionable intentions, but there’s no rule against guards she’s known since she could walk.
