THE IRON ORDER: Fantasy Novel Excerpt Reading

THE IRON ORDER: Fantasy Novel Excerpt Reading

Project Overview

THE PROJECT...

The Iron Order is a middle-grade/young-adult high fantasy novel that I've recently published on Amazon. (www.amazon.com/Iron-Order-Blackthorn-Tales/dp/B0D2NJ1676) It features themes of coming of age, loss, and friendship. Adventure, drama, lots o' heart...those old chestnuts!

As part of my marketing efforts, I'm looking to create a video that's basically a reading of the prologue, most likely to go up on YouTube, Facebook, & Twitter. With me timing the reading myself, it's about 15 minutes, but that will obviously depend on the eventual VA's performance. I'll be taking care of video, music, sound effects, etc., so what I'd love to get is a clean-audio reading from someone with a great "storyteller" vibe!

WHAT I'M LISTENING FOR IN AUDITIONS...

Recording quality is paramount, of course. Clear mic, no plosives, no pops, no background noise, etc. I'll be doing work in post, but I can only do so much! Whatever your audition sounds like, I'll assume that's what your final performance would sound like, and make my decision accordingly. Specifics about style and feel for the performance are below...

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME...

I'll be posting regular updates, if necessary. I probably won't comment publicly on individual auditions, so as not to influence anyone else who might be submitting. If you have any questions or are looking for specific feedback, though, feel free to PM me.

I won't cast until the deadline, to make sure everyone who wants to audition gets the chance. I'll be listening and shortlisting throughout the process, so I'll probably be able to make my decision quickly when the time comes, but I absolutely want to hear from everyone who's interested!

Once you're cast, I'll send the "script," as well as a pronunciation guide for the couple invented names that are in the prologue. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at any time.

Payment will be issued through your preferred choice of PayPal or CashApp, with one-third ($50) paid upon casting and the remainder ($100) paid upon delivery and review of audio files.

Again, feel free to PM with any questions. Looking forward to hearing some fantastic auditions!

All the best,

Matt

Latest Updates

  • Now Comes The Tough Part!

The deadline has come! I'd like to again thank everybody who auditioned. I've been blown away by the response and, like I said earlier, I'm sad that there's only the one role to cast for this project.

I've now listened to every audition in its entirety, and gone back and listened to more than one of them more than once. I should have my decision ready soon.

One more thank you and, no matter what happens here, I want to wish everybody all the best and all the success in the world!

  • An Amazing Beginning!

Hi all! First things first, a huge thank you to everyone who's already submitted. I'm blown away by what I'm hearing...I'm only sorry there's just the one role to cast! Like I said, I don't plan to comment publicly on individual auditions, but I've listened to everything that's come in up to this point, and you can feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.

I've gotten a few inquiries about the word count, so I'll put that right up front for anyone else who's wondering. This project focuses just on the prologue, which is right around 2,000 words. I'm considering a full audiobook at some point in the future, but that's still very tentative, so I wouldn't factor it into your decision to audition or not. Any other questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

Again, thanks to everybody, and I'm sure I'll have another update pretty soon! All the best!

Perhaps unfortunately, there's only one role to be cast for this project...the Narrator. I don't have anything specific in mind as far as age, gender, accent, etc. Mostly, what I'm looking for is someone who has a clear, confident "storyteller" voice. Soothing, but powerful. The reading is pretty brief, but there will be moments of quiet reflection as well as high emotion.

There are lines of dialogue from a few different characters, but I'm not necessarily looking for fully-realized individual voices for those characters. The ultimate goal is for this to sound, not like a radio drama, but more like someone telling a tale by the fireside.

  • The sound of hammer against anvil rang out. CLANG! It rang out for justice and it rang out for vengeance. CLANG! CLANG!

  • “The greatest sword ever crafted for human hands,” the smith intoned, his voice a thundering rumble that filled the vast cavern. “The Blackthorn.”

  • Their fight was long and ferocious. Each of them knew that there would not be another. Their screams and strikes rang out through the day and night.
