The Demon of Delusion (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Machinima)
Project Overview
The kingdom of Drochal has just won a tremendous victory: after months of enduring barbarian invasions, the marauders have been driven away. Leading the victory is Prince Arulo, who eagerly anticipates all the honors and glory that come with winning a war… including proving to his people that he is destined to be a great king.
Arulo’s fantasies are crushed when he returns home. Not only is his father, King Delex, displeased with Arulo’s actions on the front, but the young prince has also been disinherited on account of his recklessness and cruelty. Now, with a damaged reputation and his sister, Princess Ereny, in line for the throne, Arulo schemes to take back what he thinks is rightfully his. And with the aid of a demon named Razanak, what were once dark thoughts will quickly become reality for Arulo…
The Demon of Delusion is a prequel special to the machinima series Delusions of Grandeur. The two are connected due to the presence of a prominent character; however, the story and characters featured here are otherwise unrelated to what occurs in Delusions of Grandeur.

Hello, everyone! I want to start by thanking everyone who did audition up to the original December deadline. I'll be making some casting choices within the next couple days, so keep on the lookout if you already auditioned! There are some roles that could still use plenty of auditions, though. Thus, I'm extending the casting deadline to January 17th, 2022: this gives everyone time to audition after the holidays. I'm looking forward to more auditions!
Bio:
The King of Drochal and Arulo's father. A wise and just ruler, Delex entrusted his son with halting the barbarian invasion of Drochal. However, word of Arulo's irrational and reckless behavior concerned the king, and he made a decision to disinherit the prince. While his choice is completely justifiable, it inadvertently makes Delex a target of Arulo's wrath.
Voice Type:
Delex's voice should match his elderly age, but don't go into a stereotypical "old man" voice. He should sound very soft-spoken and fatherly, while also being capable of showing a lot of emotion if he's pushed hard enough. Good vocal references include Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
[welcoming Arulo home]
It's great to see you again, Arulo. I'm so glad you've come home to me in one piece.
[shouting at first, then very stern]
ENOUGH!! Actions speak louder than words, my son. And your actions demonstrate a gross lack of any concern from you.
[disappointed]
You were the pride and joy of my life for so many years. I longed to see the kind of man you would become... but now I see that you aren't fit to succeed me. And for that, I feel like I have failed you as a father.
Bio:
Odoacer is the king of the barbarians who have invaded Drochal. He and his followers wage war to demonstrate that Drochal, for all its influence as a kingdom, isn't invincible: Odoacer wants to prove that other civilizations are capable of rising up in the world. Although ruthless to his enemies, he greatly values the lives of his men--Odoacer takes every casualty on the battlefield personally, and he would gladly sacrifice himself if it meant allowing some of his people to live another day.
Voice Type:
Very deep and husky, almost gravelly at points. Since he comes from a foreign land, Odoacer should also have a distinct accent: good references include Drago Bludvist from How to Train Your Dragon and Attila the Hun from Total War: Attila. Odoacer, along with other barbarian characters, will also speak in a "barbarian language" at some points, so keep this in mind when you audition.
[calling out for Arulo, shouting]
PRINCE ARULO!! COME OUT AND FACE ME! FACE MEEE!!!
[sullen]
My men and I know the tolls of war. We know death is inescapable... but that doesn't mean every loss isn't a personal one.
[sneering]
I acknowledge my people for what they are: people. But you... to you, your men are like wheat in the field: easily cut down, and easily replenishable.
Bio:
One of the members of the royal court who advises King Delex. This courtier in particular is an older gentleman, one who has served in the court for a long time by now.
Voice Type:
Like Delex, this court member should sound old, but not "stereotypical old." He should also a slight Scottish accent. A good vocal reference is Ken Stott, who portrayed Balin in The Hobbit trilogy.
[very formal]
Your Majesty, Prince Arulo has just arrived. Shall I send him in?
[annoyed by Arulo]
Your father's decision is final, Your Highness! Stop acting like a child and accept it already.
Bio:
One of the members of the royal court who advises King Delex. This courtier is an old soldier, and he continues to wear the gold-plated armor that designated him as a Drochallian captain. He is more sympathetic toward Arulo due to the prince's military service, but he still disapproves of Arulo's temperamental attitude once he is disinherited.
Voice Type:
There's nothing in particular for what this character to sound like. Anything fitting a middle-aged man will do just fine.
[explaining to Arulo]
I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do, Your Highness. Your father made his choice, we agreed with it, and now we're enforcing it.
[irritated]
The time for "humble suggestions" passed a long time ago. This is not behavior befitting a prince, Arulo.
[giving his opinion]
I believe a good king and a good soldier share the same values: strong but wise, stern but fair, and considerate of others while also willing to make hard choices.
Bio:
One of the members of the royal court who advises King Delex. The only thing noteworthy about this particular courtier is that he is never seen without his fellow advisors.
Voice Type:
Slightly deep, and a bit husky. A good vocal reference is Dutch van der Linde from Red Dead Redemption.
[talking to Arulo]
We did not come to this decision lightly, Your Highness. But ultimately, what we did was for the benefit of everyone.
[after Arulo erupts into a rage]
Prince Arulo, please!! Calm yourself!
[awkwardly]
Well... that was something, wasn't it?
Bio:
A priest who serves as part of the royal court. He only has a small role in the special, presiding over the ceremony where Princess Ereny is officially named Delex's successor.
Voice Type:
There are no specific vocal references for this character. Anything resembling an aged, elderly man is fine. If you're auditioning for Delex, consider auditioning for this character as well!
[complimenting Arulo]
Prince Arulo, you were a symbol of resolve and strength in these perilous times. Know that we are all thankful for your great service.
[naming Ereny as heir apparent]
Princess, it is you who we will look to for guidance in the future. The crown and mantle of a monarch weight heavily upon the head and shoulders, but know that these burdens need not be carried alone.
[outraged at Arulo]
Prince Arulo! How dare you disrupt such an important ceremony with your childish pouting! If you are going to throw a tantrum, kindly take it elsewhere.
Bio:
A barbarian chieftain who serves under Odoacer. When Odoacer is unavailable, this chieftain acts as a lieutenant and delegates orders to the warriors.
Voice Type:
Similar to Odoacer: slightly deep and with an accent, but not as hoarse or gravelly. If you are auditioning for Odoacer, consider auditioning for this character as well!
[disgusted]
You have some nerve coming here, Prince. You've driven us out of your precious kingdom already; do you intend to pursue us forever?!
[holding back his anger]
You best be going now. Otherwise, I'll have my men test the sharpness of their swords on your flesh.
