Thank Goodness It's Family

Project Overview

Set in 1991, Thank Goodness It’s Family is a heartwarming and hilarious audio fiction podcast about a same-sex married couple raising a blended family while navigating the ups and downs of work, life, and love. With all the charm of classic 90s sitcoms, this nostalgic show brings laughter, warmth, and relatable family chaos to your ears. While not a spin-off, it shares a universe with our other award-winning podcast, Lucidus Somnia (https://luciddreamspodcast.com).

About the roles

We are casting multiple roles and will consider all candidates for characters beyond those listed in this audition. All actors will be self-directed, with a minimum of three takes per line unless otherwise specified in the script or through prior direction. Ad-libs are encouraged and often make it into the final production as long as the original dialogue is captured at least twice. All rates in this audition are estimates because episodes are still being finalized. Rates are based on the Lower-Tier Per-Line Rate as of 22 Sep 2024, found here - https://voiceactingclub.com/rates/#Line%20Rates.

About the auditions

Please record at least two takes per audition using the AABBCC method: read all dialogue from the first block, then repeat it twice before moving on to the second block. You can record additional takes if you feel necessary, but don’t go overboard. We aim for a natural-sounding cast, so anything too exaggerated may disrupt immersion for our listeners.

The deadline for auditions is Thursday, 31 Oct 2024. A second round of auditions will follow, where shortlisted actors will read full scenes to test chemistry with other candidates. We plan to notify those shortlisted by 15 Nov 2024, with the final cast selected by 1 Dec 2024. Contracts and scripts will be sent after casting is finalized, and the tentative deadline for completed work is around 31 Jan 2025.

Important Casting Information

You must be 18+ years of age. If selected, you must sign a buyout contract with Bargo Productions. For compensation of USD 600 or more in a calendar year, U.S. residents must submit a Form W-9 and will receive a 1099-NEC from us for tax purposes since you’ll be responsible for reporting that income to the IRS. If you prefer not to submit a W-9 directly, you can use a trusted third-party platform like Fiverr, which will handle tax documentation and payments. Payments not processed through a third-party service will be made via PayPal.

We cannot assist you with how to use the Casting Club Club platform to submit your audition, and we recommend watching how-to videos on YouTube if you need instructions.

We do not use generative AI in place of voice actors under any circumstances.

  • Think about Jason. We always busted him before he could do anything stupid. Did he learn? No. He just got sneakier. If we go up there now, they’ll just say they knew I was listening and were messing with us.

  • Hold on. It’s the middle of the semester. You mean to tell me this happened when school first started? And we’re just now hearing about it?

  • So, what do you think — does this tie say “10th anniversary” or “I found it in the bargain bin?”

Pete is in his early 40s and co-head of the Harper-Campbell family. He is the more cautious and responsible partner, often focused on keeping the household in order. As a co-parent alongside Randy, Pete is protective and meticulous, sometimes overthinking situations in his efforts to ensure the best for all their kids. His blend of love, concern, and humor brings both structure and warmth to the family. We’re seeking an actor who can portray Pete’s thoughtful, caring nature while also delivering humor in his more anxious and overprotective moments. He's a calmer version of George Costanza, but please don't impersonate Jason Alexander because that's 100% NOT what we're looking for. LGBTQ+ actors preferred; allies welcome.

  • Alright, Kaylie, are you ready for the best Jack-O-Legend hunt ever? He came all the way from the South Pole to make this night extra special. And check out that fog — real spooky, right?

  • (starting to panic) Randy, you don’t understand! Felicia only likes her lattes piping hot. We can’t serve her lukewarm lattes!

  • (disappointed) I’m trying, Randy, but I just... I can’t wrap my head around it. I don’t know what pisses me off more — the fact that he hid everything, the wasted tuition money, or that he was out there drinking. I thought we raised him better than this.

  • Uncle Randy, are you seriously gonna stand there and let Pete freak out like this?

  • And get ready to be blown away by my performance! I’m talking, wind-machine-level blown away.

  • You guys, I had the best dream last night. I finally had my own room! It had style, it had sophistication... and the best part? A door with a lock!

  • I just didn’t want everything to fall apart... doing Grease was Aisha’s idea. She fought so hard to make it happen, and I feel like I ruined it.

  • Okay, fine. So maybe the decorations aren’t the star of the show. We could do something more thoughtful... like make them a gift or something.

  • That’s the second time the ghost in the library has been mentioned tonight. That’s just a story... right?

  • (giving himself a pep talk) Alright, Jason, time to man up. You’ve made a mess. Now fix it. Just tell her the truth — about everything.

  • Right, because nothing says “fine dining,” like a $1.99 combo with soggy fries.

  • (covering, after almost getting caught doing something) Weird? Me? Pfft! Nah! Just making sure the ol’ inbox and outbox are running smoothly. Gotta keep the machine oiled, right?

  • (realizing she’s been busted but still confident) Alright, maybe I gave a little financial advice, but it’s not my fault they couldn’t handle skipping a meal. The market spoke, and I just helped things along.

  • (flabbergasted) Now you’re worried about following the recipe? We’ve got carrots swapped with potatoes, and corn instead of, well, anything that should be in a cake... but sure, let’s freak out about stirring it by hand!

  • (feigning being impressed) Wow, he must be taking creative writing classes, because that sounded like a page from Shakespeare.

  • (inquisitive) Aisha... Beth... there you are. I’m hearing rumbles that a certain Braden Fields is coming to campus to be interviewed on the school radio station.

  • (proudly) You think that was bad? This was just a warm-up. Wait ‘til next year. I’ve got something planned that’ll make this prank look like a school field trip.

  • You’ve got passion; I’ll give you that. But before I say yes, I need more than enthusiasm. Show me a plan, how you’ll manage it, and proof that students want this.
