Squirrel and Hedgehog [North Korean Animation] - English Dubbing (Lead Roles)
Project Overview
"Hello, young comrades!"
Squirrel and Hedgehog is a North Korean animation that's survived since the late 1970s and was produced even in the 2000s with CGI technology incorporated as well. The story takes us to a fictional world where Geumsaegi, a Flower Hill soldier, infiltrates the Mice and Weasels as a spy after staging his defection. He and his friends must ward off the dangers of a possible invasion from the Weasels and protect Geumsaegi's true intentions from being exposed by enemies like Mulmangcho.
From the budget that I'm initially given, I'll distribute some of it to the characters I believe should have the first picks before I begin with the free castings. Those two are Guemsaegi and Mulmangcho, both with very important roles. I'm saving up and waiting for more capital to come by where I can either raise the reward for a character or use the money to fund another role, it'll depend on what me and the voice actor will agree upon; I'll ask if you're willing to play the role for free once casted to determine whenever I can invest the price into another character or not.
Just a quick reminder, although I've set the roles of both to female, they're actually male characters; I've decided on that setting to attract female voice actors to play their roles.

Heya! As you can see, Geumsaegi and Mulmangcho have both been casted. However, following the example of giving the role of Juldarami, another character in the show, to xXSilver146Xx, I've decided that I'll allow the other auditioners to private message me for other available roles (PM me for more information) if possible in order to prevent myself from creating a third casting call on this series and possibly wasting the talents that have been posted here. I'll be waiting~!
Guemsaegi, codenamed “Blossom”, is the main character of the show and a spy who has infiltrated the ranks of the mice and weasels. After staging and faking his defection, Geumsaegi cooperates with Flower Hill as a secret agent as he attempts to gain the trust of the armies and foil the schemes that characters like Mulmangcho employ in an attempt to expose him. Luckily, he’s the ace in the hole and able to outsmart his enemies throughout the course of the show. He’s skilled in many talents and abilities from intelligence to marksmanship and has the unrivaled skill of being able to turn any plot against the opponent that employed it.
My opinion of how Geumsaegi should sound like is more of a generalized and vague headcanon. I won’t have a specific character I’d like to use as a reference, so you’re free to take more routes when finding a voice for him. On to what I’m expecting for the voice to sound like should be at least reminiscent of a mature woman’s voice; squirrels and mice usually have female voices in the original and raw version. This should be reflecting Geumsaegi’s competence and intelligence, so shouldn’t give off the impression what he’s immature or weak, thus he should be represented as the shining hope and the one everyone back at Flower Hill is counting on for this mission. The pitch should be ranging from a medium to a more deep tone, I wouldn’t recommend using a higher pitch voice for him. However, he shouldn’t be monotone and moments of both forcefulness and happiness should be expected from him in many scenes of the way.
(This will be one of those moments where Geumsaegi uses his deductive method, so pretend that you’re a detective and you want to solve this case. He isn’t speaking this line out loud, so Geumsaegi should sound like he’s deep in thought, curiously wondering where the key is hidden until...bam, an idea pops up!) I need to find the safe key before I run out of time. Wait, the Captain...he was wearing a necklace! Could that be where he’s hiding it?
(In this case, Geumsaegi should sound more sweetly and friendly in his moment of promotion and praise from the intoxicated Weasel Commander.) (Geumsaegi will start off with a very quiet and short session of chuckling with a happy tone.) It was my pleasure to do the Weasel Army a great service. (Between these lines, the Weasel Commander announces that he’ll be promoted to being his Special Assistant. Also, “sir” should sound more casual and relaxed rather than saying it in a military manner as in “SIR YES SIR”.) It would be my honor, sir!
(Geumsaegi is often pulled into fights where he’ll either enter combat with a gun or applying martial arts. He’ll be screaming, grunting, and much more while he fends off the baddies with precision and dexterity. I’ll let you improvise the sounds, but I’m expecting to at least have one wild shout like a karate fighter and some grunts as he takes off and jump multiple feet into the air or struggling to dodge.)
Mulmangcho is a recurring antagonist since his introduction. He's exceptionally gifted compared to the rest of his kind, making him a dangerous foe to Flower Hill and a rival to Geumsaegi. However, like most villains, Mulmangcho is always doomed to fail throughout the series, thus making most respect for him by his superiors short lived. His main goal is to prove his worth to whatever faction he's in and to expose Guemsaegi as the Flower Hill agent he is to the Weasel Empire. Mulmangcho is characterized as both a complete jerk and a brilliant mind. He’s always been the type of character who’s always determined to win and can get up on his feet time after time again, no matter how much trust he lost or how horrifically his plans have failed. Because of that unyielding desire, he’s escaped death multiple times and continued to be a problem for Flower Hill up to the last known public episode.
Now, time for my opinion on how Mulmangcho should sound like! Using Wendee Lee’s Blanc and Akane as the ideal voices for Mulmangcho, I would suggest a more tomboyish voice for his character. High energy, determination, and explosion is a must in his more angered and excited emotions! Besides, as a character who just keeps coming back for more, be prepared with a voice that reflects his enthusiasm and will to keep moving. When Mulmangcho is in his moments where he makes snide remarks to show himself as the one with the upper hand and status, be prepared to incorporate a more snide tone with hints of having lack of respect for his enemies.
(For the first part of this excerpt, I’d like for you to perceive this as a crescendo, starting from sounding irritated and annoyed to the point where you’d yell in rage and throw physical tantrums. This will serve to see if you can reflect Mulmangcho’s absolute disgust for Flower Hill from sounding annoyed to wrathful.) You know, I’m truly getting fed up with you Flower Hill filth, even the sight of you shoots my anger up to its boiling point! I’m so fed up, I want to gouge out your eyes, sever your tongue, and butcher you until there’s nothing left of you but an ugly mangled corpse! (Now, a some screen time has passed, so you’ve at least regained a considerable amount of composure while Mulmangcho’s two friends were in the middle of giving their remarks. The direction now is that Mulmangcho will now highlight his ability to lead and call the shots, commanding them cease with their intentions and follow his lead.) No, now’s not time. We’ll bring her to Captain One-Eye first, then we’ll know what to do from there…
(Now, this is when Mulmangcho’s self-esteem and confidence is at its zenith, which can be shown in situations such as the success of his plans. Reporting to One-Eye, Mulmangcho is to sound very eager and excited to report the progress he’s made so far, desiring to impress the Captain.) Well, many of our men were caught in the process, but Poison Ivy managed to survive and smuggle some important data with him! ...Anything else, you bet! You won’t believe this, but I’ve successfully captured a Flower Hill agent, see for yourself!
(Even though this is suppose to be a show for kids, Mulmangcho was pressured into committing suicide. With this upcoming situation, I’ve chosen this as the third line to see if you can nail this one since I’ve already given one for both anger and confidence. For this line, Mulmangcho is being scolded for being tricked and a factor to why the Weasel Commander and Sturgeon was taken to Flower Hill.) I...I was just with him...you gave me permission, so…! (Mulmangcho is soon interrupted and threatened with gunshots across the room, so incorporate some whimpering in fear between this and the next line.) It was me, it was me! I don’t deserve to be here, I don’t deserve to live! (After saying that, he was given a gun to take his statement seriously, jumping and leaping in shock and fear.) P-Please no! I haven’t had my revenge on those Flower Hill lowlifes yet! I can’t die now! (In frustration, he moans as he throws his arms into the air in a fit, until he eventually submits) Fine...please have mercy on me when you’re writing on my tombstone!
