SpongeBob SquarePants Bongo Comics Dub Casting Call
Project Overview
Greetings from the Void. Many of us at Void of Voices have a soft spot for SpongeBob SquarePants. We've grown up with the show and it holds a special place in our hearts. As such, we hope to create SpongeBob projects for the Void of Voices YouTube channel, including comic fandubs and original skits. Starting this summer, around June or July, we intend to start releasing fandubs of the Bongo SpongeBob comics. We need voice actors for SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Sandy and Plankton. If you would like to add a line that isn't listed in the auditions, or would like to improvise, that is completely allowed.
Deadline is January 24th. Give it your all and have F.U.N.
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
SpongeBob SquarePants is the main protagonist of the self-titled animated series, characterized by his optimism and childlike attitude. He resides in a pineapple with his pet snail, Gary, in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. He works at the Krusty Krab fast food restaurant as their best and only fry cook. It is a job he excels at and thoroughly enjoys. He attends Mrs. Puff's Boating School, where he hopes to earn his boating license. However, every time he has to drive a boatmobile, he gets nervous and drives recklessly. SpongeBob has a heart of gold, doing things with the best intentions even if they lead to dire consequences. He really loves to hang out with his friends, especially his closest companion, Patrick Star. His other friends include his next door neighbor, Squidward Tentacles, and his land mammal friend, Sandy Cheeks. Other relationships include Eugene H. Krabs (his boss), Sheldon J. Plankton (the show's main antagonist), and his superhero idols Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, among many others. His common interests and hobbies include blowing bubbles, going jellyfishing, anything involving Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy and their Rogues Gallery, and going to the Glove World theme park, among many others.
We understand that the voice of SpongeBob is hard to pull off. Please try as best you can to give a similar portrayal to that of Tom Kenny.

[One of SpongeBob's signature quotes is his "I'M READY" mantra. This quote has appeared throughout various episodes, especially in the early seasons. Typically spoken as a chant, in a singsong sort of way, with pure excitement and optimism. There are many variations of this mantra throughout the show's run, so whichever variation you would like to use, go for it] (shouted in excitement, both words briefly elongated) "I'M READY!" (chanting) "I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready! I'm ready!"
[From the episode "Pizza Delivery", when SpongeBob and Squidward find a rock they can use to drive to the customer's house. Squidward, of course, dismisses it as a big boulder, but SpongeBob, happy as a clam, is overjoyed to see this rock. While the line is spoken joyously, he audibly tears up and weeps a little.] (joyful, tearing up) "It's not just a boulder! It's a rock!" (weeping joyously) "A rock! A rock! It's a big, beautiful, old rock. Oh, the pioneers used to ride these babies for miles!" (still excited, but now in a calm voice) "And it's in great shape!"
[This line is from the episode "Can You Spare A Dime?", where SpongeBob takes Squidward in after the latter quits his job for falsely being accused of stealing the first dime Mr. Krabs ever earned. This is where SpongeBob confronts Mr. Krabs after being driven to his wit's end for Squidward's snobbiness and laziness, telling him off in no uncertain terms whilst choking him. It is rare for SpongeBob to be this angry with someone, but when he is, he is not someone you should mess with.] [For this line, most of it is spoken in utter anger, but the very last line immediately switches to SpongeBob sounding calm and collected.] "Listen, you crustaceous cheap-skate! Squidward's been living at my house, driving me crazy! (shaking Mr. Krabs violently with wide open and bloodshot eyes, screaming angrily) And you're not gonna hire him back all because of a stupid dime?!" [once seeing a prehistoric dime fall out of Mr. Krabs' back pocket. SpongeBob suddenly calms down] "What's that?" ||| WARNING: If you don't know how to do the scream, please don't try it, it can do damage to your throat. Also, please lower gain. "GARY! YOU ARE GONNA FINISH YOUR DESSERT, AND YOU ARE GONNA LIKE IT!"
Patrick Star is a main supporting character of "SpongeBob SquarePants." He is a naïve and overweight pink sea star, and the best friend of SpongeBob SquarePants. He lives under a rock in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, living to the right side of his neighbors, SpongeBob and Squidward. He and SpongeBob do many things together, including jellyfishing, bubble-blowing, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy cosplay, etc. Both of them tend to annoy Squidward, usually unknowingly and with good intentions.
On his own, he is lazy, dim-witted, unmannerly, and generally ignorant. Despite being a full-grown adult, Patrick is very immature and indulges in many childish activities with SpongeBob. Patrick's personality shares similarities with that of SpongeBob's, but SpongeBob is more intelligent, responsible, optimistic, mannerly and down-to-earth than Patrick. His dim-wittedness often annoys SpongeBob and causes him a lot of problems.
Please deliver an impression that is similar to Bill Fagerbakke's portrayal. It is not enough to simply do the deep voice. There is a bit of a growl to Patrick's voice whenever he gets angry or pumped up.

[Patrick's laugh. Please do your best impression of Patrick's laugh] ||| [From "Band Geeks", when Squidward asks his band members if any of them have played instruments before] "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" ||| [From the first SpongeBob movie, where Patrick flies in butt-naked, cheering SpongeBob on] "HOORAY FOR SPONGEBOB!"
[From "Secret Box".] "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma." ||| [Also from Secret Box] "Inside this very box is the most secret-y secret of all of secret-dom and I am its sole witness! It's a heavy burden, SpongeBob, but nobody must know the mystery of the box."
[From "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV] "You got it set to M for mini, when it should be set to W for wumbo." ||| "Oh come on SpongeBob! You know, I wumbo, You wumbo, He she me wumbo, wumbo, Wumboing, We'll have thee wumbo, Wumborama, Wumbology, The study of wumbo? It's first grade SpongeBob!"
Squidward Q. Tentacles is one of many main characters of "SpongeBob SquarePants." He is the grumpy neighbor of SpongeBob and Patrick. He works as a cashier at the Krusty Krab, working alongside SpongeBob, for better and for worse. He lives in an Easter Island head shaped house. Squidward is a mostly unpleasant artist and musician, and his favorite hobbies are painting self-portraits, making culinary delicacies, and playing the clarinet.
Squidward is considered rude, unhappy, stubborn, snobby, grumpy, bad-tempered, egotistical, miserable, sarcastic, apathetic, pessimistic, hypocritical, and sometimes sadistic, but this can be explained by his work ethic. He views the world in such a negative light that he is rarely seen greeting anyone with a smile. He hates his job at the Krusty Krab and is often seen sleeping or reading on the job instead of working. Despite his temper, he is still one of the most intelligent and educated characters. He has a cynical attitude, a grandiose sense of self, and sees others as uncivilized morons while failing to accept his shortcomings. Squidward sees himself as misunderstood and unappreciated, blaming society for his failures.
For the voice, please try to be as similar to Rodger Bumpass's portrayal as possible.

[From "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm", a line Squidward says when Patrick suggests taking Bikini Bottom and pushing it somewhere else] (normal volume) "That idea may just be crazy enough..." (yelling) "TO GET US ALL KILLED!" ||| [From "Band Geeks", when instrument sections are playing at Squidward's command, and the drums section pins Squidward to the wall with their sticks. Squidward says this line in a bothered but monotone voice.] "too bad that didn't kill me."
[Also from Band Geeks, at Squidward's lowest moment in the episode, spoken with tearful sorrow and despair] "Well, you did it. You took my one chance in happiness... and crushed it! Crushed it into little, tiny, bite-size pieces. I really had expected better of you people. I guess I'm a loser for that, too. Don't bother showing up tomorrow. I'll just tell them you all died in a marching accident. So, thanks. [sobs] Thanks for nothing! [leaves]" ||| [From "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie", a line Squidward says to himself while SpongeBob and Patrick are off to retrieve King Neptune's Crown. He speaks calmly and happily.] "Too bad SpongeBob isn't here to enjoy SpongeBob not being here."
[From "Have You Seen This Snail?", an example of Squidward screaming. Please do not do this unless your throat can take it.] "What are those Neanderthals doing? Don't they know I'm busy spoiling myself?" (SpongeBob and Patrick barge in) "AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!" [From "Dying For Pie", when Mr. Krabs tells Squidward to act brotherly towards SpongeBob on Employee Brotherhood Day. Squidward responds with frustration and vitriol.] "Mr. Krabs, you pay me to stand behind this register, and take orders, and give change. But you could never pay me enough to act brotherly towards that guy!" ||| [From "Bubble Buddy", a line Squidward says when he is fed up with SpongeBob, who speaks for Bubble Buddy, requesting so many changes to his order. He is at his wit's end here.] "Here, one of everything! No cheese, no crust, pickles to the left, four squirts of ketchup, wheat buns, non-dairy lettuce, and farm-raised tomatoes, CARNIVAL STYLE! And if there is anything else I can do, please hesitate to ask."
Sandy Cheeks is one of many main characters in the SpongeBob SquarePants series. She is an American squirrel from the surface, from the state of Texas, who wears a diving suit and lives in an air-filled glass treedome to survive underwater. Sandy is a thrill seeker who loves extreme sports and karate. Having come from the state of Texas, she has a Southern drawl and a love for rodeos. She works as a scientist and built both her treedome and air suit and helmet herself. She is typically kind and caring to her friends, very energetic (almost to a fault), loves engaging in challenging and oftentimes dangerous activities, and takes pride in her home state. When she becomes angry, you better start running.
For this role, please provide an interpretation as close and as accurate to Carolyn Lawrence's as possible. Please remember that Sandy is from Texas, and has a Southern drawl to her voice.

[Another signature quote from Sandy from "Tea at the Treedome." She says this to SpongeBob in a sweet and calm tone of voice] "I like you, SpongeBob. We could be tighter than bark on a tree!"
[A quote from Sandy in the episode "Texas," where she angrily warns SpongeBob and Patrick not to insult her home state any further] "Don't you dare take the name of Texas in vain!"
Eugene H. Krabs is one of many main characters in the SpongeBob SquarePants series. He's a miserly red crab who lives in an anchor with his daughter, Pearl (who is a young whale). He is the owner and founder of the Krusty Krab restaurant, and the employer of his cashier, Squidward, and his fry cook, SpongeBob.
Mr. Krabs is obsessed with money and goes to great length to increase his wealth, to the point where he occasionally treats money better than his daughter and employees. Mr. Krabs's only business competition comes from the Chum Bucket, a failing restaurant run by Sheldon Plankton and his wife Karen. Plankton and Karen are constantly scheming to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula that makes the Krusty Krab so successful.
Mr. Krabs is usually portrayed by Clancy Brown, but in other media, he has been portrayed by the likes of Joe Whyte and Bob Joles. For this role, we would like to see a similar portrayal to Clancy Brown.

[A quote from "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie", where he's being interviewed for the brand new Krusty Krab 2. The difference here is the added sentence of Mr. Krabs saying his name in-between "hello" and "I like money". And the laugh at the end.] "Hello! I'm Mr. Krabs! And I like money! Arg arg arg arg arg arg." ||| [From the episode "Squid's Day Off", spoken calmly by Mr. Krabs in stark contrast with his situation where his claw is stuck in the sink, trying to get his dime.] "I can think of ten good reasons to never let go of a dime, boy."
[From "Imitation Krabs," in response to a snarky comment from Squidward] "What is today but yesterday's tomorrow?" ||| [From the episode "Nasty Patty," where the tension has been building up with the Health Inspector's "dead body" in the freezer and the cops taking their sweet time at the Krusty Krab. The Health Inspector is locked in the freezer, and when one of the cops goes to get ice from there, Mr. Krabs blocks the door and says this line, acting nearly insane.] "There is no ice! There has never been any ice! Ice is just a myth!"
[From the episode "Squeaky Boots". When Mr. Krabs takes away the boots he gave to SpongeBob due to the annoying squeaking sound they produce, he hides it under the Krusty Krab's floorboards. He can still hear the squeaking in his mind, and soon, he can't take it anymore. He acts as though he's mentally insane] "STOP IT! STOP IT! (the "oh, oh" is him making demented noises) Oh, oh, don't you hear it?! (Mr. Krabs appears mentally insane.) "Yes, I did it! I did it! I took the boots! They're here! Under the floorboard!" (sobbing) "Oh, please! Make it stop! It's the squeaking of the hideous boots!"
Sheldon J. Plankton is one of many main characters of the SpongeBob SquarePants series. He is a planktonic copepod who runs the unpopular and unsuccessful Chum Bucket restaurant alongside Karen, a waterproof computer who is his sidekick and wife. He is the main antagonist of the franchise in many episodes; sometimes, he is a sympathetic anti-hero. He harbors a fierce rivalry with Mr. Krabs, jealous of his success while the Chum Bucket rarely sees a single customer actually enjoy Plankton's food. Plankton's main goal is to steal Krabs's secret Krabby patty formula and run him out of business. His efforts always end up failing in the process.
For this role, please provide as accurate of an interpretation of Doug Lawrence's Plankton as possible.

[One of Plankton's signature quotes. Spoken loudly and with frustration] "I went to college!" ||| [From the first SpongeBob movie. He says this line to SpongeBob tauntingly and arrogantly] "I'm an evil genius! And you're just a kid! A stupid kid!"
[Also from the first SpongeBob movie, when he first discovers Plan Z and practically orgasms over it] "It's evil! It's diabolical. It's lemon-scented!" ||| [From "Band Geeks". When Squidward asks everyone if they've ever played an instrument before, Plankton asks this question innocently.] "Do instruments of torture count?"
[From "Welcome to the Chum Bucket", where SpongeBob is forced to work for Plankton, under the threat of losing his brain. However, once he gets to Plankton to do whatever he wants for him, SpongeBob becomes a spoiled brat. To a point where Plankton is fed up and yells out this iconic line.] "That's it, mister! You just lost your brain privileges!"
