Hello!
Resilience is an original motion comic about a trans woman retired from her life as an assassin who is forced to make good on an old promise to destroy the government of a declining space colony. It's a little bit John Wick, a little bit Hiroyuki Imaishi, and it's loosely based on the obscure 90s anime 'The Big O'. It's a story about found family, and trans power.
For this story to be accessible to all audiences, the characters will need to be voiced.
I'm a filmmaker and a media composer, as well as the sole creator of a webcomic that ran for three years. I decided I wanted to put these experiences together and work with motion comics and vertical video, and so began creating episodes of 'Resilience' in 2023.
I currently finish a 1 minute episode every fortnight. Dialogue is quite sparse, so actors may be needed for as little as a couple of sentences every few months.
That means that while this is a long term commitment, it isn't intrusive or time consuming. You don't have to be the most talented performer around, or have the fanciest equipment - I'm mostly here to meet a great group of collaborators.
This opportunity is not unpaid. And, the deferred payment is not conditional on the project's success.
I always pay my collaborators. However, on this occasion due to various personal circumstances I'm going through a rough patch. So, while I have to list this project as unpaid, as payment will likely be small and I can't estimate when I'll be able to afford it, I will eventually be able to provide some small amount of payment.
In the meantime, and to supplement this, I'd be overjoyed to offer my skills as a web developer, composer and illustrator instead.
I'm casting for cis- and transgender roles. As a trans creative myself, I'm aware of and fully respect the uncertainty and frustration trans actors face when auditioning for roles to the effect of 'how "trans" should I look/sound?'. In the case of this and all subsequent casting calls for Resilience, if in doubt, submit the audition anyway. All transfemme characters in the story have some amount of voice training, but this need not be to the point of passing. "Slightly not-cis" is fine. Likewise, if you've since lost the ability to return to anything even close to a non-passing voice, that's fine too!
Content warnings for Resilience include mentions of Trans/queerphobia, death, hate crimes including murder, mental health including self harm, unsupportive families. Most of the story is rated Teen, though a couple of episodes will be restricted to 18+.
For this reason, please do not audition if you are not 18+.
Voice actors will have full access to the draft script following being cast. One advantage of long-form webcomic releases is that this will allow for actors to opt out of episodes or suggest edits to portions of the script to be more accommodating for their performance.
Tentative deadline is May 31st. Once cast, timelines can be flexible to work alongside your other commitments. Communication will take place over Discord. Further roles to be cast at a later date - due to the drawn-out timescale of the medium, it would be unfair to cast these any earlier. However, speculative applications, especially from transmasc voices are very welcome. Please direct questions to Eyre#4885.
Thank you very much for reading! I hope you'll consider participating in this project!
On an unrelated note, I'm very sorry that the panel reading 'Eyre's Previous Works' (to the left of the screen on desktop) are all broken or very old links. I asked the moderators about this and apparently the feature is a hangover from previous versions of the site, and can't currently be updated. My broken links are all to demo reels from when I was smol. To see my recent work, visit my profile or visit the links in this description. Updated versions of all the work at the broken links can be found by poking around the early releases by Unredacted Productions.
