Forced to escape only with Son Hak, who is both her childhood friend and bodyguard, the naïve princess soon discovers that Kouka is not the idyllic place she envisioned it to be. Poverty, strife, and corruption run rampant, making reclaiming the throne nothing more than a wishful fantasy given the kingdom's current state.
Hey everyone! I am looking for all parts (except Yona) for an Akatsuki no Yona/Yona of the Dawn manga fandub. As some of you know, this manga has already been turned into an anime, but it's been stuck at its' first season for quite some time. The manga has a lot of details that that anime skimps out on (who would have thought?) and it is still continuing. I hope to create Youtube videos featuring at least one chapter of the manga in each video. This will help generate more of a buzz for this manga, since I do enjoy reading it. Secondly, I figure this would be a good start to honing my video editing skills and meet other talented voice actors on the way. If you are auditioning and haven't checked out the manga or the anime, I definitely recommend it! The anime will give you some insight on how characters should speak and it is relatively short. However, this is not required. If you're interested in becoming part of a team of voice actors for a manga full of fighting scenes, drama, and romance, please give this one a try!
Many lines in the manga require you to yell, grunt, scream, etc, so please make sure your environment is well-suited to do so. On the other hand, there are lighthearted parts of this series, so please allow yourself to step out of character for a bit. It is a shoujo after all!
Requirements for Auditioning:
1) All actors must have a clear microphone and overall good audio quality! Please refrain from capturing background noises, however if it isn't too bad, I could just edit it out. If you can edit out the background noise yourself, that would be even better.
2) Many of the lines are in fighting scenes and you will need to yell, scream, and grunt. Make sure that you're able to do that in your current environment.
3) Many of the voices are already in the anime, I will provide you a short clip of how they are supposed to sound like. While the English dub is nowhere near perfect, you can always add your own flavor or twist to a character's line. If you sound better than the anime, that's great!
5) I'll be meeting with each of you to go over your lines in a Discord call, so please set some time aside. We need to be on the same page in terms of your character and inflection.
6) I am hoping to put out 1-2 Chapters every month. If we are able to do more than that, that would be great. If you feel that you cannot allocate enough time to this project, please do not audition.

Hak is the main hero and the former General and Chief of the Wind Tribe. He is the adopted gran son of Son Mundok, the adoptive brother of Tae-Yeon, and the childhood friend of Yona and Soo-Won. He is known throughout Kouka as the "Thunber Beast" due to this outstanding fighting skills. He helped Yona escape from Hiryuu Castle after her father was murdered by Soo-Won.
This is a character that fights a lot within the manga and you will need to make grunting noises and sound exhausted at some points.
Hak is a mischievous and loyal person who strives to protect Yona at all costs and has been shown to be self-sacrificing, both physically and emotionally, when it comes to her well being. His professionalism extends to a point where he addresses his childhood friends by their status. His devotion to his job stems from his belief in Emperor Il. At first, he had no intention to get involved in the royal family, as he saw it as troublesome. However, when he witnessed the emperor’s bravery, he swore loyalty to them, seeing that he couldn’t leave them alone.
When it comes to his heart, Hak destroys his impulses every time they resurface, even though it hurts to do so. There are times that he will show his affection with teasing, but not much beyond that. However, when someone (particularly Jae-Ha) questions the emotional distance between Hak and Yona, Hak loses his composure and can become territorial around the princess. He seems cold around Yona at first, but slowly reveals that he truly cares deeply for her.
Keep your mouth shut and hang on, Princess. Think of me as a tool. Use me so that you can live! That's what I'm here for!

He is the son of the deceased General Yu-Hon, the older cousin of Yona, and the childhood friend of Hak. He murders his uncle, Emperor Il to avenge the foul murder of his father.
Soo-Won is a kind, gentle, and friendly person who is always seen with a calm demeanor. Despite being composed most of the time, he displays moments of naivete and acts childish whenever he sees fit. He has a habit of changing the topic if someone notices his lies or questions his intentions. After he kills Emperor Il, he becomes cold towards Yona, almost emotionless and calculating.
Although very handsome and having a great amount of charisma, Soo-won appears to have some problems with having relationships with women, and becomes easily abashed when he is insinuated to have had one in Awa. As of now, he doesn't appear to be thinking about finding a wife, and even refused (somewhat vigorously) when his generals suggested that he marry An Lili, the Water Tribe general's daughter.

Min-Soo is a servant inside the Hiryuu Castle who used to attend to the needs of Princess Yona and Emperor Il.
Min-Soo is a very caring person who was attentive to the needs of Yona and Emperor Il. He had a close relationship with the royal family and Hak,. Min-Soo wasn't just a mere servant but also a confidante to the people he served for as he was seen present in some important discussions. Because of his loyalty to the royal family and his duties, he is also selfless, as seen when he willingly used sacrificed himself for Yona and Hak's safety.

Empeor Il (pronounced is "ill", not the number 2) is the late king of the Kouka Kingdom. He is the father of Yona, the second-born son of Emperor Joo-Nam and the younger brother of Yu-Hon, Soo-Won's father. On the night of his daughter's birthday, he was murdered by his nephew, Soo-Won.
Il is a bubbly person who governs the people with kindness and idealism. He dislikes violence and settles conflicts in a peaceful manner. Because of this, he banned wars and forbids Yona from taking up a weapon. Although, he may appear cowardly and weak from this, he can be brave and stop a fight by h is own bare hands when it's necessary.
Yona. Up until now I have given you everything you have asked for. Whether it be beautiful hair pins, earrings.. a villa, a flower garden.. and anything else except a weapon. But. It doesn't matter how many times you ask me. I cannot give Soo-Won to you. You are the princess of Kouka Kingdom. The person who becomes your husband.. will become this nation's king.

See Soo-Won's character description above. This is him as a child. He is soft-spoken, but cares deeply for Yona and the people around him. He always thinks of others' well-being and comforts Yona when her mother passes away.

Jae-Ha is a vain, confident, persistent, and observant man who takes pride in his looks and enjoys the beautiful things in life. He has the tendency to chase after something he believes to be beautiful and outwardly display his masochistic nature when someone hurts him lightheartedly, much to the annoyance of some of his companions.
Behind these antics, however, he hates being pursued and values freedom more than anything. His particularity with liberty deeply stems from how he was treated in his village when he was young. He had his legs and arms chained, stopping him from using his powers recklessly, he relishes the freedom that his power and circumstances allow him.
(To Hak) Taking away someone’s freedom is the ugliest thing one can do in this world. People like that ought to decay into dirt and come back as thorny roses.
It’s a general principle of mine to treat women with the utmost care.
(To Kija) Does this great wish of the past dragons include your own thoughts, too? If you simply obey orders without question to protect your master, that isn't your greatest wish, but your greatest tragedy.

Kija has a very headstrong, straightforward and polite personality, mostly due to the way in which he was raised. As he has always known about the legend of the dragon deities and his place within it, he cherishes the power he possesses, the other dragon warriors and Yona, who he perceives to the descendant of King Hiryuu; he also strongly believes that those who are the dragon deities should fulfil their duties no matter what.
Due to this, he can become quite annoyed by others who do not hold the same reverence as he does, and often scolds the members of his group (particularly the dragon warriors) for being immature or disrespecting their positions - this has been stated by Jae-Ha to be one of his less-likeable traits.
(To Jae-Ha) So long you feel the same way as I do, that alone is enough for me to have your back as we fight.

Yoon is a kind and skillful boy who takes great pride in his brains and looks as he confidently proclaims himself a “genius pretty boy”. From time to time, he throws insults at everyone, seeing how the group can be rowdy despite the fact that they need to keep a low profile. However, behind his sharp tongue, he genuinely cares for everyone’s well-being, and is easily moved to tears. He is always calling people out for their recklessness and is looking out for their best interest at heart.

Are Xing Kingdom's warriors the kind to keep swinging their weapons at people who won't fight back until they die?! Are you proud of that?!
(Shin-Ah has very few lines because he is the silent-type, but he is still a very important character!) Not many examples I could find, but he is soft-spoken and stoic in his voice.
Growing up in complete isolation, he has almost no social skills whatsoever. He is very quiet and hardly ever speaks, usually replying to questions with nods and gestures, or just blank, awkward stares. Because of this, he is often misunderstood by other people, thinking he is suspicious and even frightening. However, he has an extremely kind and caring personality, even towards those in his village who hate and fear him. He deeply cares for Yona and the rest of the group, and has a unique bond with a squirrel that he named Ao. He also absolutely hates the cold, often using his fur head-piece to keep himself warm.
In truth, I already knew the moment I saw her. There's a place full of light at this girl's side.
Yona.. she's calling for me.
My powers.. they're too strong for me to handle. I can only hurt people. It doesn't matter who. It doesn't discriminate. That's why I wear this mask. To protect the ones I love.

Zeno is an energetic, cheerful young man who enjoys the company of others. He mostly uses third-person speech and rarely calls anybody by their given names even after learning them (he calls the dragons by their titles, ex: Seiryuu or Ryokuryuu) Most of the time, he appears to be childish and rather attention-seeking, though he has his wise and mature moments, being 2000+ years old. Despite the fact that he chooses not to fight, he always stands on the front lines to protect everyone from danger.
People are mirrors. If you smile, a smile will be reflected.
(To Yona, as he is injured protecting her) I am the dragon that was born to be your shield. If Ouryuu (referring to himself, this is his alias), your shield, protects you.. You will never.. be injured.

Kye-Sook is a cold and serious person who doesn't show remorse to anyone, even to the royalty, if they are to be a liability to his master. He has a vast knowledge on people and important matters which can make him consider all types of scenarios that may bring calamity to the Kouka Kingdom or to Soo-Won. He can also be an opportunist when a chance arises for their plans, such as when he proposes Soo-Won to be the next king to the generals.
(Righter after the murder of Emperor Il by Su-Won) Master Su-Won. The preparations are complete. I see you've attained your long-cherished ambition.. Did.. Princess Yona..?
Then your choice is simple. Kill her, Master Su-Won. You must make sure the princess won't talk.

Tae-Woo is a laid-back person who likes to take things easy. Even though he likes to be at peace, when it comes to spear fighting, he works hard to surpass Hak. Once Hak tells him he was to be the next general after him, he immediately argues back stating that it is 'too much work'. Although he is against the idea of becoming general, he is aware that it's necessary for him to take the position for the greater good of the Wind Tribe.
"I’m not going to obsequiously follow the king, but abandoning the imperial capital is a different matter. I’m a general now. I will protect this country and you all."
A princess with problems is too much of a burden.

Like Tae-Woo, Han-Dae is a slacker when it comes to duty and believes that the people of the Wind Tribe are free as the wind. However, he is more cheerful than Tae-Woo and he can easily put a smile on people’s faces. He is also calm, being more level-headed than his fellow villagers as seen when they were being oppressed by the Fire Tribe.
We are the Wind Tribe. We live freely as the wind!

He is strict to the point of almost being scary, has a strong demeanor when he enters the room, and definitely the ultimate Alpha male. His voice is commanding, like a strong warrior or general.
Yu-Hon (ユホン Yuhon) was Soo-Won's father and was one of the most successful generals known to Kouka Kingdom before his death. He was the first-born son of Emperor Joo-nam and was believed to become the heir to the throne, but he kept his position as head general of the army when his brother Il inherited the throne instead.
The Throne is no big deal to me.
