Khajiit Will Follow - Skyrim Follower Mod
Project Overview
Call for Voice Actors – Khajiit Will Follow Mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Project Summary:
Khajiit Will Follow is a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video game. It adds several khajiit (catfolk) characters to the game world who can be recruited to follow/fight alongside the player, and who can potentially be married after the player has curried their favor. I am seeking voice actors to voice the male characters in the mod. There are three lead roles and three minor roles available.
The leads are large roles, and will require a significant time commitment. I am looking for folks who can provide consistent, high quality work, who will not disappear part way through the project, and who would be willing to reprise their role in future updates of Khajiit Will Follow.
See the mod/screenshots here: Click here!
Number of lines per role: 2500-3000 lines, up to 150 characters in length. Minor roles: <50 lines.
Accent: Khajiit accent (Russian/Spanish/Arabic) required. See below for reference.
Compensation: Flat rate of $300 per lead role.
Lines to be delivered by: ~Mid 2021.
Accent:
The khajiit accent is something akin to a Russian/Spanish/Arabic mix, but the accent is variable in Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online, so I have some leeway on it. Ideally, the voice is a bit gravelly and mid- to tenor-ranged, akin to the game’s original male khajiit characters, but again, I have some leeway. Main points:
-- R's tend to be rolled, short, or with a D sound.
-- Short A sounds tend to shift towards a short E or a short O (i.e. Half --> Heff; Small --> Smoll).
-- Short I sounds shift towards a long E.
-- TH sounds are partially stopped by the tongue to make a D sound at the start of words.
-- Z sounds become S sounds, except at the beginning of words. (i.e. "was" --> "wass")
-- Hard J sounds become -ZH except at the beginning of words (i.e. Khajiit == kah-ZHEET, as in measure).

Project Details:
Each lead character has 2500-3000 lines, up to 150 characters in length per line. Some re-records likely, based on initial recording quality/line reads, though I’ll try to keep them to a minimum. Duplicate takes with alternate reads would be useful. I aim to be accommodating and professional in my communication, direction, etc. Each role is split across a few general categories:
1) Follower: Each follower has a short quest before he will follow the player. After following the player, he has:
- generic and location-specific greetings and goodbyes to the player
- various combat sounds: weapon swing grunts, power attacks, enemy taunts, death rattles, etc.
- remarks on player weapons/armor/spells equipped
- comments to the player when approaching bosses/points of interest/specific dungeon types
~ 30-35 short conversations with the player, designed to flesh him out as a unique character with a unique personality and experiences
- Nanak has ~30 book talks he does with the player, discussing books he’s read and found particularly interesting.
2) Marriage: Each follower can be married after the player meets certain criteria. Dialogue includes:
- courtship, pre-marriage, during marriage ceremony, and generic marriage remarks
- Spouse-themed greetings and goodbyes to the player while at home
- New follower dialogues to acknowledge the character’s marriage to the player.
- 20-25 short conversations to flesh out the spouse’s character – what it’s like to be married, how life now compares to his life before meeting the player, remarks about house location, what he does with his time in the house, his desire to get out and go adventuring, remarks about any kids the player may have adopted, etc.
3) Ongoing content patches and updates. Currently, I have made content patches to go along with the "Vigilant" and "The Forgotten City" adventure mods for Skyrim, with future plans including: Interfollower banter (including dialogue with other popular custom followers such as Inigo), content patches for a few other adventure mods, and commentary on the base game’s quests. It is preferred but not required that any applicants be willing to reprise their role in future updates of Khajiit Will Follow.
Compensation:
This is a nonprofit passion project for me, and as much as I would like to, I don’t have a budget that allows me to pay an adequate amount. As it stands, I can pay a flat $300 fee for each lead role, to be paid upon completion of recording. Additionally, I’ll strive to be professional in how I work with you, and will do everything I can to raise your profile/visibility within the mod and on the mod page. You’re more than welcome to use your work on KWF in demo reels and other auditions for future roles.
How to Audition:
To audition, please supply me with a voice sample that accurately reflects your tone, inflection, and accent. You can give duplicate takes if you would like. As I foresee a limited number of auditions, I will consider you for all available roles, regardless of the part you audition for, but will give preference to your auditioned character(s). For each role, I have linked a script with alternate audition lines. You can audition with lines of your choosing, but please choose at least two lines from each script.
You should ensure that volume is consistent across samples and that there is no clipping/distortion of waveforms or background noise in the audition. You will need access to Google Drive or another comparable service for file transfers.
If you are cast, I will contact you with more information, including scripts, pronunciation guides, project timelines, and any other pertinent information. If you use Discord, feel free to leave your handle with your audition.

Latest Updates

One last update for everyone. First off, thanks again for all of the auditions on this casting call. The amount of interest in this project absolutely blew me away, and the quality of the auditions made it extremely difficult to make a final decision on each of the parts. I could easily raise a khajiit army with the amount of fantastic auditions that were submitted. I'm seriously impressed and humbled. With that said, at this point casting is complete. If you would like feedback on your audition, feel free to DM me here, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks again everyone. Best wishes going forward! Sincerely, robbobert

Thanks so much for the incredible response!
I'm blown away by the number of auditions that have been submitted for this project. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit your work over the course of this past month. I will take the next week or so to go back through and re-listen to everyone's lines and hopefully have a final casting decision made shortly after. Thanks again everyone! Best Wishes, robbobert -
Thank you! And audition deadline extended by 48 hours.
Wow, thank you for the incredible response to this casting call! There have been many fantastic auditions posted over the past month, and it's going to be extremely difficult to narrow things down to a final casting decision. A real embarrassment of riches, so thank you all again for taking the time to audition. :) I noticed that CCC has the deadline ending ~36 hours early though, so I have extended the deadline by 2 days to account for the discrepancy. Things should wrap up by the end of the day on Monday the 1st now.
Summary: A bit larger than a typical Cathay khajiit, Bikhai is a warrior who is friendly, warm-hearted, empathetic, dependable, and loyal. A good companion who seeks to do the right thing. There is sadness in his past that is still raw, but he is doing his best to continue living and moving forward. Accent is typical khajiit -- sort of a Russian/Hispanic/Arabic mix.

Scope of Role: ~2700 lines up to 150 characters in length.
FOLLOWER DIALOGUE. Please record BOTH lines:
1) [The player has approached Bikhai for the first time. He is feeling sad, because he has lost something precious to him:]
“Khajiit has lost his golden locket – very important to him. You will help him look for it, perhaps? The last place this one had it was when he left it by his bed last night. Perhaps his shivering in these cold Skyrim nights knocked it to the floor.”
2) [Bikhai asked the player how they're doing. The player told Bikhai they’ve been better, and when asked to clarify, they said “No reason. Skyrim just gets to me sometimes.”]
[comforting] “Ah. Yes. Bikhai is sorry to hear this. He knows this feeling. Finding the silver lining of one’s situation is an acquired talent, but in a land as harsh as this one, it is essential. Granted, your burden is heavier than most, but know that Bikhai has been there, and he will be here if ever you need a shoulder to lean on.”

MARRIAGE DIALOGUE. Please record BOTH lines:
1) [Bikhai really, really doesn't like spiders.]
--BIKHAI: “Bikhai is thoroughly disgusted. He was dusting the cabinets a while ago, and right as he went to reach under one of the shelves, the biggest spider you’ve ever seen came crawling out. Scared khajiit half to death."
--PLAYER: How big are we talking?
--BIKHAI: “Carried off a sweetroll after it finished scaring this one. Does that tell you?”
--PLAYER: No it did not.
--BIKHAI: “—Err, well, maybe not. But it was big enough. Could have done it if it wanted to.”
2) [Bikhai is training the kids to defend themselves.]
“This one hopes you don’t mind, but he decided to start a course of weapon training with the cubs the other day. Teach them what he knows, yes? Nothing major – no greathammers or battleaxes… Just wooden swords and shields for now. They are…terrible with them. But no injuries yet!”

COMBAT LINES: SHOW ME THE ANGER!!! Please record the following lines:
1) *hiss*
2) "You want some of this? Huh?"
3) “Die, you overgrown mutt!” [fighting a werewolf]
4) *power attack sounds* [full body weapon swings, with weight behind them] “Rrrrraaaaagh!!!” “Hrt--Uraaaaghhh!!!”
5) *death sounds* -- utterances, pain sounds, bloody gurgles, etc. as you die. You're getting slashed/stabbed/crushed/hit with blunt objects/impaled/etc.
Summary: Nanak is a magic-using book worm with a thirst for knowledge. Annoyed by stereotypes of khajiit, he feels like he has something to prove, and can be a bit abrasive and defensive as a result. Kind of a nerd at heart, but he’d probably take offense to the notion. Ultimately, he just wants to make friends, but has spent so long with his defenses up, he’s not sure he really knows how to do it. Accent is typical khajiit -- sort of a Russian/Hispanic/Arabic mix.

Scope of role: ~3000 lines
FOLLOWER DIALOGUE: Please record BOTH lines.
1) [Nanak mentioned that he might have ended up at the Mage College, if not for his dislike of another khajiiti mage there named J’zargo.]
--PLAYER: A real winner, that J’zargo, eh?
--NANAK: [annoyed] “Insufferable. Probably secretly so afraid of being wrong that he devotes his life to avoiding it at all costs. I can’t tell you how much I just wanted to reach up and rip those pretty little whiskers right off his face! But I didn’t, of course. That would be uncouth.”
2) [Player asked Nanak why he is conflicted about the ‘A Dance in Fire’ series of books.]
“Well, it is undeniably well-written. I cannot argue that point. However, its portrayal of khajiit is horrendous. Blood-thirsty savages. Unreasoning, feral beasts, out to slaughter and incinerate everyone and everything in their path. No nuance. Certainly, war is an ugly business, but the characterization of the khajiiti people was awful.”

MARRIAGE DIALOGUE: Please record BOTH lines:
1) [Nanak tells the player about how their child asked him to “enchant” them, so he cast a fake spell to make them “invisible.”]
--PLAYER: I bet that went over well.
--NANAK: [amused] “Well enough. I’m quite the actor, it seems. Didn’t even break character when they sneaked up on me in plain sight and pulled my whiskers. Of course, inquisitive little thing that our cub is, they asked why they could see themselves if they were invisible. That one took a bit of explaining, but I think I pulled it off.”
2) [Nanak’s magic went a bit haywire.]
[cautious] “Things are going well. I, eh… I have an admission to make. While practicing my spellcasting the other day, I…well, I burned a few of your things. And also electrocuted them. …And froze them. But it was an accident, and I’m very sorry about it. Hopefully you are not angry?”

COMBAT LINES: SHOW ME THE ANGER! Please record the lines below:
1) *hiss*
2) Back to Oblivion, demon!
3) What, are you gonna cry about it?
4) *power attack sounds* [full body weapon swings, with weight behind them] “Rrrrraaaaagh!!!” “Hrt--Uraaaaghhh!!!”
5) *death sounds* -- utterances, pain sounds, bloody gurgles, etc. as you die. You're getting slashed/stabbed/crushed/hit with blunt objects/impaled/etc.
Summary: S'ariq is a stealthy former bandit with a chip on his shoulder and some life-experience-induced trust issues. He's always up for a bit of theft, and is a bit amoral where matters of his and the player’s survival are concerned. Not a murderer, but knows first-hand the ugliness that the world can throw at you and what it sometimes takes to survive. Accent is typical khajiit -- a mix of Russian/Hispanic/Arabic.

Scope of Role: ~2700 lines up to 150 characters long
FOLLOWER DIALOGUE: Please record BOTH lines:
1) [S’ariq is in jail, awaiting execution after having been framed for murder. He calls out to the player as they pass his cell:]
--S’ARIQ: [unhappy] “Stranger, a moment of your time, if you have it. If you ever run across a khajiiti thief named Gatka-Dar, do this one a favor and bleed her dry, yes?"
--PLAYER: Who’s this Gatka-Dar, and what did she do to you?
--S’ARIQ: “She is…an ex-partner of S’ariq’s. The reason that S’ariq sits in this cell. And one way or another, she will die for double-crossing S’ariq.”
2) [S’ariq tells a harrowing tale about an encounter with the falmer back when he was a bandit:]
--PLAYER: What did you do next?
--S’ARIQ: “As quiet as he could, S’ariq slipped into the shadows and crept away. His fur was slicked down with blood and gore, but he was alive. It seemed like days before this one found his way out of the ruins and back to the surface. Days of just S’ariq, the darkness, and the falmer.”

MARRIAGE DIALOGUES: Please record BOTH lines:
1) [S’ariq is struggling with fatherhood.]
[mildly frustrated] “S’ariq isn’t sure what to do with your child. It keeps…staring at him, with its beady little eyes. What does it want? Should this one pet it, or… What is it you humans do? Change its diaper? Does it have one of those? Please, go talk to it, and tell it to leave S’ariq alone.”
2) [The kid got sick and puked on S’ariq. Yuck.]
--PLAYER: Your fur? Gross.
--S’ARIQ: [annoyed] “Yes. S’ariq’s fur. Managed to vomit on his neck, so it trickled all the way down to his legs and found every bit of fur in between. ‘Let’s have children,’ you said. ‘It will be wonderful,’ you said. Khajiit did not sign up for this kind of trauma. His fur will never recover, and he is not sure he will either.”

COMBAT LINES: SHOW ME THE ANGER! Please record the lines below:
1) *hiss*
2) You'll make a fine rug, human!
3) You're already dead, you just don't know it yet!
4) *power attack sounds* [full body weapon swings, with weight behind them] “Urrauggghhhh!!!” “Gyah. Hah!” [When dual wielding, S’ariq does three quick slices with both hands.]
5) *death sounds* -- utterances, pain sounds, bloody gurgles, etc. as you die.
You may submit audition lines for whichever character interests you.
--Sugarclaw is a fence, selling stolen goods for a group of bandits that specializes in kidnapping. He's a coward, and when the player comes storming through Mistwatch, he tries to negotiate for his life. Reads should be hesitant and timid, but not panicky. Total lines: 50.
--Ri'zakh is a trader from Elsweyr. He smuggled himself into Skyrim after having had his throat slashed by elves attempting to shut down the khajiiti resistance in Elsweyr. His voice is mostly gone -- throat slashings will do that to you -- so he should speak in harsh whispers. Total lines: 34.
-- Chatur'jo is an odd duck. Without spoiling anything, he has kind of a fragmented personality, and is at least a little bit insane, likely due to an encounter with the Mad One. His lines rhyme, and should be spoken almost as if in a dream. Total lines: 29
Sugarclaw lines:
1) [Sugarclaw has thrown his hands up in surrender]
SUGARCLAW: "Hey, hey now, no need for violence. Come. Let us talk."
Player: Are you one of the bandits?
SUGARCLAW: [hesitant] "Well, yes. --Technically speaking, but before you cut Sugarclaw down, or...set him aflame, or whatever it is you do, hear him out. This one is one of the Mistwatch bandits, but there is a reason he is out here, rather than in the keep. You see, khajiit... Well, he has some misgivings -- about what it is we do here, he means."
2) [friendly, offering goods] "My friend, Sugarclaw has exactly what you need."
Ri'zakh Lines:
1) "Ri'zakh is khajiit's name. He is a merchant of sorts. Arrived in Solitude recently from the forests of Tenmar in Elsweyr. You know of the Thalmor, yes? Of the Aldmeri Dominion's assimilation of Elsweyr? Well, not all khajiit have gone so readily into the high elves' arms."
2) "Yes. Watching your own blood pool around you and seep into the ground... It changes you. One brush with death was enough for Ri'zakh."
Chatur'jo Lines:
1) "I once met a cat by the name of Nanak, whose magical prowess could a dragon shock. But his nose was buried so deep in his books, that he did not even notice from me what he took."
2) And then came the Mad One, cackling with glee, and to Chatur'jo did he tell a somber story. To the land of old magic, did he implore me to go, to the place where is taught, how lightning to throw."
