I Used to Pray for Superpowers
Project Overview
Thank you for your interest in the podcast "I Used to Pray For Superpowers" a podcast that takes a closer look into nerddom and explores the messages within about humanity, purpose, and morality. We are excited for what will come of this podcast, and the many opportunities we will have to explore what it means to be human by looking at aliens and androids in science fiction, along with other morals of many, many stories.
As I, Trever, and my co-host Peter begin this journey, we have thought of various characters that we may want to have involved in the podcast. Little fun call outs in the midst of the talking to pull in the worlds we are discussing. Some characters are original, and some are not so original.
Give it your best shot! I'm looking forward to involving YOUR voice in this project!

A Brandon Sanderson Character:
In his youth, Dalinar was known for his ferocity and skill. He was commonly known as the Blackthorn, and was well respected. However, after his brother Gavilar's death, Dalinar started reading The Way of Kings and following the Alethi Codes of War. He became less fierce, and even began to momentarily lose the Thrill. He eventually admitted to his desire for a more peaceful existence, causing him to lose a lot respect and gain the formation of rumors that he had become weak.
Over the years he's learned to trust his instincts as a soldier and general.
VOICE: Gruff, haunted, deep, yet bold and unwavering.
Life Before Death, Strength before Weakness, Journey Before Destination."
"But Trever and Peter, you're forgetting that I am a bondsmith!"
"I once prayed for superpowers... how far I have come."
A character that is learning what it means to be human throughout the podcast.
VOICE: Really, however you like. I'll even accept Dwight's android in Threat Level Midnight
"What is emotion? Not happy, and sad, those are descriptions, what is it really?"
"Why do you long for something outside of reality?"
"Would you really want to fight orcs in the woods and potentially terminate your existence?"
This is the character who makes the arguments against what we are saying.
VOICE: play however you would like, I'm interested to see your take on this.
"You're wrong. Dead wrong."
"No, if Kaladin is Survival than he would have given up his memories to protect himself."
"Trever, you really think that Hoid is Ogrid? Ridiculous."
You are playing a young boy who is very nerdy and struggles with the real world, choosing to escape into fantasy worlds.
VOICE: Play as you wish.
"It's the gratuitous scene that all Sci-Fi movies have to have nowadays."
"Don't you think that Riker is less honorable because of his treatment of women? McGyver too for that matter."
"You have a problem with Star Wars spotlighting strong female leads?"
You are playing a young boy who is very nerdy and struggles with the real world, choosing to escape into fantasy worlds.
VOICE: Play as you wish.
"Hold on! I'm almost to level 4!!"
"I don't want to grow up. I just want to go to neverland."
"I pray every night for superpowers... or for the apocalypse, either one would be better than how things are now."
Possibly the voice of our intro and outro for the podcast. Put yourself into this and make it yours!
“Welcome to ‘I Used to Pray for Super Powers’, a show about the deeper meanings, messages, and intricacies hidden within nerd culture."
"We hope that you've learned something today, and that you go out and live your best life."
"Live long, and prosper."
Characteristics/Notes:
This is an individual who we may look to for answers. Someone who has studied the world we are looking at for many years and has many contacts that tell her what is going on.
VOICE: Play as you like!
"This planet has three shards. You should have recognized that this was strange."
"What would give you a thought like that? Sometimes a stick is a stick."
"Of course Captain America isn't gone forever! That would be like ACTUALLY killing off Batman. He can die, but he always has to come back because they can't come up with anyone better."
Think about if batman and Eeyore were mixed into one character.
"The real world is far more difficult to traverse than any fantasy world... and they have magic!"
"Life isn't an adventure like in books; it's a tragedy like in plays."
"I just wish I could be something more than I am."
Think Gandalf and Mordenkein all wrapped up in one.
VOICE: Old and wise, kind yet full of power.
"Honor. Justice. Truth. Power. These are things worth pursuing."
"Advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise and all paths may run ill."
"Secrets within secrets, lies upon lies, never trust the main plot, read between the lines."
