Dissonant Melody: A Splatoon Comic [Dubbed] / Splatoon 2 Story Dubs (VAs Needed!)

Project Overview

Hello and welcome! Do you love Splatoon or comic dubs in general? This is the casting call for YOU!
Even if you're not a fan, come on in and try something new!The Specifics:

1. What are the projects involved? 
I'm casting for voices to feature in: a cinematic dub of both Splatoon 2's Hero Mode (2 parts) and Octo Expansion story scenes (2-3 parts). This also includes the ongoing fan-comic Dissonant Melody, a story that explores the history of Cap'n Cuttlefish and DJ Octavio. We have permission from the author Ame to dub this series.

My hope is to find fellow fans of Splatoon to bring these tales to life and the characters below are featured many times in each one, so "why not scout all the potential members at the same time?" is what I thought. This project is a long one, so don't say I didn't warn ya! Come along for the ride?

2. Is there a release schedule? 

Yes, the videos will be released episodically on my channel, Yume's Studio. I'm looking to have these series started in mid August! 

3. How much time do we have to audition?

This casting is being routinely updated and will reflect the following changes below. Have no fear, I never cast before the deadline. DM me if you have any other questions!

August 1st: Casting Goes Live, Leads Added
August 15th: Deadline @11:59 PM CST
August 16th: Casting Decision and Announcement

4. Please pay attention to the character description when auditioning! 

5. You can audition for as many characters as you like, however in the description of particular characters you may come across the following detail: "If you audition for [name here], I'd also encourage you to audition for [name here]" What does this mean?**

**Both DJ Octavio and Cap'n Cuttlefish have younger counterparts in Dissonant Melody, but they're placed as separate roles!

6. Only C.Q. Cumber and Young Octavio are open to the ladies for auditioning, just to clear up any potential confusion. 

 Now, On to A Few Guidelines for your Audition:


  1. ✅ Audio quality is very important, so please check for static or background noise in your audition. We want your awesome voice to shine through the recording!

  2. ✅ Don't worry about impersonating any canon voices, this is all for fun! 

  3. ✅ Up-votes are a form of support for your fellow VAs, but don’t worry too much about them. They don’t influence casting. I will not leave any up-votes until August 16th, 2018.

  4. ✅If you are cast, please be committed to doing your best and working with others!

  • [Final Update] Roles Are Cast!

    First off, I want to thank every single one of you for considering my casting call and taking the time to audition. Being completely honest, I was nervous about making decisions for the first time. I tend to say this a lot because it's true, you're all talented here. I've commented on a few of your auditions as well. So if I don't get a chance to work with you now, the door is still open for future projects.     Hello everyone, this is Yume. Since the casting call is at the midway point, it's time for an update! If you've requested feedback I'll do my best to get it to you this weekend (8/11). Character Profile: DJ Octavio is the leader of the Octarians and the final boss of both Splatoon's and Splatoon 2's single-player modes. It's said that he's currently 100 years old in present time. I know, I'm surprised too. In Octo Expansion, we learn more details about the squad under his leadership. Character Profile: This unreasonably attractive gentleman goes by the name of Cap'n Cuttlefish. He’s a decorated hero who fought in the Great Turf Wars of legend between the Inklings and Octarians. He now keeps solemn vigil over Octo Valley, watching for any fishy behavior. Though his clothes may be tattered, his heart is pure and nothing escapes his razor-sharp gaze. He also TOTALLY didn’t write this post.”

Voice: Open to your interpretation! He's definitely an easily excitable fast-talker who tends to ramble on though.

Important:  Sheldon's role in Splatoon 2's story mode is to gather data on the weapon's Agent 4 uses throughout the hero campaign. His key dialogue points are during the radio transmission sections with Marie and at the final stage of the last boss.



Character Profile: Sheldon is a genuine military fanatic from a well-respected family who is fascinated with his weapons. He has developed nearsightedness due to staying up late every night tinkering with weapons and small parts, causing him to be rejected from the military for his extremely poor eyesight. Undaunted, he decided to start a business selling weapons out of his own home, and Booyah Base was eventually built on the same land upon which that home stood. Vocal Range: Any

Voice: Open to your interpretation, whether you want to try a monotone voice or a wacky one. Have fun with it!

Important:  This character is recurring throughout the story of Octo Expansion, revealing its true motive at the very end.


Character Profile: In its telephone form, it appears as an old-timey telephone box. It frequently uses slang, but also has error messages inside brackets appear in its speech, possibly because it cannot find the correct slang, given that one of the error messages it prints reads [SLANG_NOT_FOUND]. Being an AI, Tartar does not have any major personality traits, though appears to have a hate for what he would deem the less important things in life, such as fashion, sports, etc., and lets Agent 8 know as much before the final boss fight, saying it was "disgusted" by Inkling culture.

  • My primary function is to facilitate your journey to the promised land. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

  • (Motives Revealed) I am TARTAR, an AI construct created 12.000 years ago by a brilliant professor.
