Calamity Cab Ep.1
Project Overview
Hi there,
I'm looking for a people who could bring to life a unique audio drama podcast – it centers around a taxi driver and a passenger who's far from ordinary.
A few years ago, I set out to launch this project, but like many of us, life happened and things got sidetracked.
The project's future might be uncertain – it could take off or perhaps remain a passion project. But no matter how it pans out, there's room for future discussions on compensation should it gain traction.
The script we're working with is about 3500 words, narrated in the first person. So the job involves diving into the character's shoes and seeing the world through their eyes.
As for the audio files, don't worry about keeping them raw. Feel free to add your gates, but hold off on any background sound processing – that's something I'll handle on my end.
One last thing, I want to make sure it's clear that your work will be compensated whether or not the project makes it to the final release. You'll be paid for your efforts, regardless of the project's future status.
Hope to hear from you soon!

I have the script for the lines for you to follow along with the other characters voice lines.

Including some snips of the voice so you have something to go off of, this role isn't a ton of words roughly 250.

Name: Em, a being whose true name is as elusive as her origin, adopts temporary monikers to blend in with human society. When she crossed paths with Jack, she introduced herself as Blue, but later acquiesced to his advice and adopted the simpler alias, Em.
Age: Time's relentless march in the Grey City is not akin to the earthly concept we're familiar with. Em, a Numenborn, came into existence in the early 17th century. Her kind do not experience infancy or childhood—they simply are.
Species: Em belongs to a species often referred to as Numenborn—beings just a tad too uncanny to pass as human. They communicate telepathically, relying on the immense skyscraper, their silent conduit, situated in the heart of the Grey City. Although technically immortal, they can be affected by excessive sunlight, water, or a prolonged stay in the earthly world.
Gender Identity/Sexuality: Em, like all Numenborn, lacks gender or sexuality. However, her appearance is considered feminine by human standards, leading most to assume her as female.
The Skyscraper: This towering structure is the lifeblood of the Grey City. It regulates both the inanimate and animate, fabricating Numenborn through various means. When Numenborn communicate about it, they transmit an image of the building, instantly conveying shared understanding. Em once described it to Jack using the English term 'Worship', a descriptor that doesn't truly capture the non-religious nature of this relationship.
The Grey City: The city's past, potentially vibrant and colorful, is shrouded in mystery. Today, it resembles a contemporary city reflected in a monochrome funhouse mirror. The buildings, tall and thin, contort in unusual ways, as if mocking the laws of physics.
Creation of Numenborn: They come into existence in two ways: spawning in vacant homes in the Grey City or transitioning from humans who've lingered in the city long enough. There are distinct differences between the spawned and the converted.
Spawned Numenborn: The birth of a spawned Numenborn is a painless event that fills an empty home. Freshly spawned Numenborn already possess a telepathic link to the city. They appear indifferent to humans, not from a place of cruelty but from inherent difference. Newly spawned Numenborn need to acquire human languages.
Converted Numenborn: The transition from human to Numenborn is agonizing, both physically and mentally. If a human remains undiscovered in the Grey City, the skyscraper instigates their transformation. As they writhe in pain, their cries draw the attention of other Numenborn who provide care. It usually takes a while for them to establish the telepathic link with the skyscraper, leaving them in a state of confusion. While their human memories blur, they retain their language skills and find solace in familiar places from the earthly world.
Em's voice might sound very soft, yet firm, as if every word is carefully chosen and pronounced. Given her unfamiliarity with human language, her pace of speech might be slower than normal, as she carefully forms each word. She starts out lacking confidence in her speech and gradually gains confidence.
Her voice might also have an intriguing quality to it due to her species' non-human origins. It might be deeper than expected, lending her an air of mystery and making her words resonate in a way that draws people in.
As Em has been around since the 17th century and has had various interactions with humans, there could be hints of archaic phrasing or pronunciation in her speech. Although she would likely have adopted more modern speech over time, some older language elements might still be present.
It's also worth noting that Em might not modulate her voice much in terms of emotion, as her species communicates primarily through telepathy where emotional context is directly transferred. This could give her speech a somewhat flat, monotone quality, even when discussing subjects that might typically invoke emotion.
All in all, Em's voice would likely be as unique and fascinating as she is, reflecting her not-human nature while still striving to bridge the gap between her and the human world she interacts with.
