5028 Audiobook (Production Phase 1)

Project Overview

The galactic year is 5028. Gods wage war over the fate of the Milky Way, as its inhabitants fight for their right to live. The Soulless, thrall of the god, Hilos, threaten to wipe out all sentient life, while the Celestials, chosen of the gods Cleva and Solvemos, take the front lines to stop them.

William Ortell, a young man from Furelle is chosen as a successor to Vale, a powerful Celestial of years past whose magic was unparalleled. Together with his friends and the crew of the Blue Sparrow, he must fight against the clock to find a way to put a stop to this war once and for all, while also dodging the Soulless wishing to put a stop to him.

All the while, he struggles to learn his place in this vast galaxy as he untangles the skills of his predecessor, learning to be more than he was, and learning what it truly means to be a Celestial.

This phase of production will only consist of the first half of the book. We will move onto the second half likely after the new year for the sake of time and money. All actors are expected to be able to commit to a timeline similar to that.

Pay for this will be $20 an hour for all actors. Extras will receive at minimum one hours worth of pay.

Latest Updates

  • Pre-Production Update 3

Alright, this should be the final update before we actually start producing some stuff! Almost all roles are filled right now, just waiting on some final confirmations and we should be all good to go!

From this point on, we're still vaguely looking at artists, but other than that we'll be getting into recording sessions, mixing, composing, makin' sfx, all that fun stuff!

  • Pre-Production Update 2

Alright, day 2 has come to an end with a whole SLOUGH of some incredible auditions. Already I have a few people in mind for a few roles. I've also gone and updated a couple of role lines and descriptions ever so slightly to be more clear. I've also gone through and sorted everyone's current auditions out for the day.

I'm looking forward to the coming days!

  • Pre-Production Update 1

End of my first day. Gave a listen through all of the current auditions and am impressed so far. Lots of really good talent to choose from! A few roles have yet to get any auditions yet, and I'm looking forward to seeing some as the days go on. For now, I'll be keeping everything open and letting more people audition.

A young woman of Draen (Dray-en) descent. While generally seen as lazy by William during their time on Draenica, she ends up a valuable mind on the Sparrow. She's fiercely protective, and quick to come up with a plan.
Her voice is described as thin and smooth, and while she can be outspoken and loud that isn't her default.

  • Of all the roommates, I had to choose you, didn’t I? Remind me how I ended up like this?

  • (Angry and Frustrated) No! You almost died. And you. You crash land with Soulless on your ship and some sword that makes William spew blue stuff from his hands!

  • Good. We’ll need you in there to disable the security on the locks. Once you do, me, William, and the Captain can manually undo the binds on the Sparrow, and we’ll be home free.

The antagonist of 5028. A Draen (Dray-en) similar to Tara, who grew up on Draenica. She had her wings docked while she was a slave and has been vengeful toward the galaxy since. Being a Soulless Commander she is a roadblock for the Sparrow Crew that nearly defeats the crew on multiple occasions during the first book.
She speaks as if she's always ten steps ahead of you and has a lower voice. When trying to intimidate the crew (which is most of the time) she drops her voice a little and speaks more smoothly and articulately. When she gets angry or frustrated she'll often speak more loud and aggressive. There's a touch of crazy there.

  • (Chilling) Hey... (Leaning in to whisper) That sword of yours. Does it have a name?

  • (Calling from across a large room) Oh? And here I thought you went out of your way to be such a helpful rat.

  • (Amused) I don’t need this, nor do I have time for it. Just this once I’ll let you live. I don’t feel like dealing with this… well, this seemingly unbreakable will of yours.

The Illustrious (and oft lazy) captain of the Blue Sparrow. She's outwardly very sure of herself, and is concerned for her crew, but often does not know the best ways to do well by them. She's not the best leader, but always is trying her best, even if that means making the wrong choices. She sees William Ortell as a protoge and is gentle with her guidance to him, often speaking to him like a mother rather than an officer.

Voice description:
  • female adult
  • Should I also remind you, Mr. Ortell, that you are to refer to me as ‘Captain,’ not ‘Cap?’

  • I will not be having my crew running about looking and speaking like a rowdy, ragged mass of monkeys. Am I making myself clear, William?

  • New world, huh? What do you think, Mr. Ortell? Suit your liking?

William's childhood best friend. She's a tomboyish young woman with a knack for cautious exploration. After the invasion of her homeworld she goes on to join the military. She has a touch of a southern lilt, but not a heavy one, and a slightly lower voice.

Voice description:

  • Leeet meee gueessss… it was another old, crusty, Furin (Fyur-in) temple?

  • (Concerned) My pa says that stuff’ll turn you into one of them…

  • The least I can do is make sure you don’t get yourself in too much trouble.

An older Furin (Fyur-in) man who discovers William and Maurel in an old temple. He tasks himself with returning the two to their home. He is a gruff old man with a grumbly, disgruntled, but wise voice. Think an old, tired, somewhat melancholic war vet.

  • (Soft, but forceful) The dead should be left to their lives beyond.

  • (Reminiscing) That one was married. You can tell by their marks,

  • It is dangerous here. Come. I will take you back.

One of the three Gods, Cleva rules over the realm of Magic and (unspoken) Interpersonal Relationships. Her voice is smooth and calming. She start as a roadblock for the crew, but ends up assisting in teaching William magic with the help of Luccia.

Voice description:

  • Clearly, the sword made a mistake, and if it does that, it’s of no use to us, anyway.

  • You remind me much of the prior owner of that sword. Headstrong, disobedient, stubborn... In your case, those may be the best qualities you could have. d.

  • Luccia (Loo-syah) will be your training partner, and this; will be our training ground. The sanctum of the Tower of Souls.

Solvemos

Paid: Hourly 20 USD
Role assigned to: Patrick McCook

The second of the three Gods. Solvemos' specialties lie in Warfare and Martial prowess. He and William never see eye to eye and clash both times they meet, though it never goes beyond verbal spats, as they attempt to remain on the same side.

Solvemos' voice is gravely and imposing, described as being like an earthquake. He is prideful, and seeks to keep his own power before anything.

Only 3 lines for now.

  • Sterling, it is clear your conviction is strong… however, this?

  • You’ve brought along nothing but pathetic whelps with no experience. You expect us to sign off on a crew of civilians?

  • (Addressing William, who was told his sword was worthless.) Much as you are. Go. Home.

The Kinth Engineer of the Blue Sparrow. She's small in stature, has a fiery temper, but a warm heart for William and his situation. She often sees him as her trainee to take care of.
She's loud and boisterous and described as having a heavy accent, but it's never specified what that accent is.

Voice description:

  • Oh, look at us with the long arms. Well, Mr. First Mate, what exactly can this little engineer do for you?

  • Ah, it’ll be fine. You run into any Soulless down there and you just put the beatins their way, y’hear?

The Yeoman and ship counselor of the Blue Sparrow. Iraka's job is to keep psych evaluations on the members of the crew to ensure everyone is healthy and in shape to be in the field. He shows general concern for William's self destructive tendencies.
He speaks with a sophisticated tone, even if the words he says are more casual.

Voice description:

  • That sword you have, it’s a lot to live up to. If you ever need to let it all out, I’ve got an open ear.

  • You may just be right about that. Arneli (Ar-nell-ee), you’re a strategic mind as well. Any thoughts?

  • Because here, we give people hope. I can make a difference in both places, sure, but the problems the Council solves are domestic at best.

A Furin woman who suffered greatly in the early times of the war. She's very critical of William at first, before eventually opening up more. Her voice is quiet and described to sound sandpapery, and she doesn't speak much.

Voice description:

  • Ma’am, we are flying after a Commander, and into an active war zone. (Pointed) Are you sure this is safe for everyone present?

  • (Angry) A new watch list was put up, and one guess who wasn’t on it, again. I’m getting sick of our illustrious captain cutting herself out of any work on this ship.

  • Navigation is online, comms relays active. Ship wide systems are nominal... She's all ready.

Rex is the ship medical officer. He speaks overly formally, and with a deep gruff voice. He is very serious about keeping the crew safe and healthy, but also knows when to let loose and let them have their fun.
Overall his voice is very deep and sounds as if he is keeping a stiff lower jaw.

Voice description:

  • We’d discussed joining a larger crew prior. I sense recklessness in you as well. You will need a medical practitioner.

  • Your muscles will begin to tear. Bones fractured. Internal bleeding. You’ve shown a decent strength so far, but I would refrain from pushing yourself too much for now.

  • I find great comfort and fulfilment being here. Arneli is one I have cared after for many years. She keeps me centered, and my work gives me noble purpose.

A Quan'en Soldier/Researcher with a very "Hoo Rah!" attitude. Probably the most easily excitable of the Blue Sparrow crew, she is a go to tactician and a reliable soldier to always have at your back.

  • Looks like they managed to upload a copy somewhere, but at least we still have the original.

  • I’ve seen these two in action. They may not stand up to a Commander, but you can be sure they’ll hold their own in battle.

A late addition to the Blue Sparrow crew, Jewls joins to help teach William magic. She's notorious for her abrasive attitude and behavior, and is antagonistic toward William during their first few encounters. She respects people who put in the time and effort to get better, but always has that touch of disdain in her voice.

Voice description:

  • Unskilled, untrained. You lack discipline. What is your name?

  • It’s pathetic. (Unbelieving) That Isngr would choose someone with no skills to make use of its power.

  • I simply don’t think you have a place among us. You clearly are untrained in any aspect that might keep you alive here.

A young pilot who traveled with Jewls for some time. He's somewhat shy and soft spoken, but easily excitable. Around the crew he's quick to open up, quickly becoming like family to them. While he is considered an incredible pilot he has a lot to learn. He is described as having an Irish accent. Specifically Dublin Irish.

  • I didn’t mean to impose. I was just admiring your ship, was all. Oh, I’m Lux by the way!

  • Oh, well, I wouldn’t want to brag, buuut, (pausing for effect) I am one of the best pilots in the fleet.

  • (Yelling over explosions. Stressed) I’m doing the best I can! Don’t know if you noticed the entire fleet in front of us!

William's Spirit guide. She acts as a way for him to learn and understand how his magic works, as well as a partner that always has his back in combat. She calls William "Hero" as a jab.

Voice description:

  • I’ll be honest with ya, Hero, you don’t have a chance in hell at winning this. Your best option is to survive. Fight defensively.

  • I gave my honest opinion. Listen, Hero, you’re alright, but you’ve got your work cut out for you.

  • You have to guide it, gently. If you try to force it to bend, you will find yourself forced instead. As much as you try, you cannot overpower the World Spirit.

ROLE IS NOT GUARANTEED TO HAPPEN:
In the case that we receive extra funding, we want to hire an artist to help with character and chapter art. To prepare for this hopeful outcome we would like to see some portfolios and (hopefully, fingers crossed) we can afford to work with someone!
