My first job out of college was working with an anime magazine, but you have to either give your life to the industry and be forever underpaid, or get a normal job. I had to pay the rent and student loans. In middle age, I'm helping with projects here and there, and trying out some voice acting now that information about caring for your throat is more available (I had a ton of throat illnesses as a kid, and my voice used to shred easily).

I mainly write, and aside from personal projects, do freelance work. Any writing will have to bring up the issue of money. If I'm not doing 1,500-word essays for free anymore, I'm sure as heck not bringing your world to life with the workload of multiple novels for a free lunch.
