Voice Lines/Quotes:
[Fearless, Sincere] "Make peace or die. Them's been my only options for fucking years. I don't see why you'd make a difference."
[Stern, emotionless] "I don't care if you think you can't move. Get the fuck up."
[Sentimental, soft] "Semper fi, Marines. Semper fi."
[Solemn, regretful] "Look, I know I've done things that have tainted my good name with my fellow Marines. I still love them, even if the feeling ain't mutual. I understand now why I must live with that disdain. Shit's a heavy burden, but all I can do is make up for lost time and my own ignorance."
[Panicked, high alertness] "He's a fucking powerhouse! I don't know if we can actually do this, even as a unit! Fuck me. Fuck this shit! What are we gonna do?!"
[Consoled, accepting] "You're right, kid. I get it. If there's a will, there's a way. I never believed those words before I met her, but if you're saying it now, it only means she was more right than I'd care to admit. Thanks."
[Motivated] "Embrace the suck, boys! You think it's bad now? We haven't even made it to the base of the mountain yet!"
Events and HistoryHistory and background details
Gunnar Hanson aspired to be one of the few and the proud since he was a freshman in high school. Once he went through the rigorous journey to accomplish this goal, everything seemed to be working out in his favor. He felt fulfilled, a sense of belonging, and even found purpose in his life. After he graduated bootcamp, Gunnar was assigned as an 0341 (infantry mortarman) in the School of Infantry and learned the essentials of launching explosives from a distance.
After graduating SOI, he was alphabetically assigned to be stationed in Camp Pendleton, California, where he'd continue to learn the ropes of being in the infantry with actual experience; he joined 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, and was being mentored by the best. He was sent out to Yuma, Arizona for 3 months for desert training, earned his helo dunker certificate, and almost got deployed overseas, all with injuries and overcoming them time and time again.
Unfortunately, things turned upside-down for him after suffering a near death experience. During a 12 mile hike back in the hills of California, Gunnar pushed himself too far beyond his physical limits, and after suffering from rhabdomyolysis and a 107.8° core temperature, his hopes of staying in the Marines were dashed despite efforts to fight against the med board process.
After he separated, feeling like an outcast and dashed of his pride and sense of honor, Gunnar wandered in search of a new purpose in life. Before things could truly begin to feel tolerable again, the world was destroyed in nuclear fire, taking him out with it. After the dust settled, the veteran would somehow crawl out of a crater back in his military attire and physique that he had right out of bootcamp so many years ago. He'd wander and survive, eventually finding someone special who'd help him cope on every front.
This was until he was confronted by Primus Odhinkar, and after the two fought a grueling battle, he convinced the Marine that the only way to save what remained in his world was for him to be escorted out of the universe, never to return. Begrudgingly, Gunnar said goodbye to his soon-to-be baby momma and promised that somehow, they'd see each other again, even if he didn't know how.
Years passed, and the two became a group of eleven, now aiming to make a new home out of a universe of their collective making. To fill the void after losing everything, Gunnar decided to act as the military trainer and instructor, to teach the younger Chompas about how to fight, build discipline, and earn the right to do so via rigorous and relentless training. He'd be ruthless yet fair, and when the ball got rolling for the clan, Gunnar was the appointed embodiment of his Marine Corps Spirit, forced to confront his past one push up at a time.
