General Info

Name:  Cain Husher

Nickname: "Phantom"

Gender: Male

Race: Chompa

Age: [left to interpretation for now, appears mid-20's]

Appearance

Height: 6'6

Weight: 240 lbs

Hair: Unknown, usually hidden by hood

Skin: Unknown

Distinguishing marks: n/a

Eyes: black mask holes, bright red pupils emanating from within black, featureless eyes

Clothing: camouflage coat with a gray hood, black fingerless gloves, torn brown cargo pants, black steel toe boots

Personality

Temperament: Confrontational, cold, relentless, quiet, edgy, depressive, emotionless

Moral/ethical beliefs: As a "former" serial killer, especially with the mask fused into his being, Cain's bar is quite low on a moral spectrum. He has severe disdain for others, yet he wants to return to the well balanced person he was prior to finding the mask. He's not afraid to kill, similar to Damien, but he doesn't do it on his own volition or to lash out, only to temporarily satiate amplified intrusive thoughts and actions, or fight his reflection if he sees himself in anyone else. He's conditioned himself to be quite unfeeling and emotionless, as his original frame of being was lost when he and Owen split into two separate beings. He does want to be good again, but he doesn't know how, or if anyone can help him; thus, he doesn't blame people for judging him.

Religious beliefs: Cain doesn't have a good grace with God, and despite being devoted in one life, he now feels that God prefers Owen over him in this new one he wound up in. His anger fueled his selfishness, and disdain for both God and Owen led him to become a true demon and a marked wanderer, cursed to never see his own face ever again for the remainder of his immortality. Needless to say, he knows that God, whatever He may truly be, is not on his side, and probably never was. He feels his sacrifices when he was good were not up to par with His expectations.

Hobbies: Long walks in the woods, soul searching, taxidermy, knife collecting

Likes: Talking to the other Chompas, scaring people (sometimes), killing those who he deems necessary, therapy animals

Dislikes: People who remind him of himself, society, Owen Husher (deep down), having hope, his addiction

Fears: Confronting his past, moving forward with uncertainty, God, never being his true self again

Strengths:

  • Potent user of Dæthereal arts; uses it to embody the Phantom he currently is

  • Can phase through objects, is quick to be as Formidable as Jason Voorhees, yet also agile enough to be quick, precise, and violently potent. Capable killer in many settings and scenarios

  • Can relate to most of the group, yet avoids Owen or Tait when he can get away with it. He loves Primal and Damien the most, if he could truly love anything sincerely, along with Primus, who is devoted to help him find what he's yearning for

Weaknesses:

  • Only uses Dæthereal perks; is not good against Læthereal or light/positive opponents, though he does still have some tricks up his sleeve in such scenarios

  • Highly addicted to being the (no longer) intrusive self that he currently personifies; he can't help himself from hurting others most of the time

  • Doesn't talk too much; keeps things brief, to the point, and avoids those who he knows will cause internal conflict, good or bad

Long term goals:

  • Become the person he once was; find peace with himself and what he's done to so many others

  • Confront his past and make amends by any means he can achieve

  • Try to be more like Owen and the other positive influences in his life, and make small steps towards recovery

Voice Description

Hateful, Sullen, unapologetic, low pitched, plaintive, sort of like Darth Vader from Star Wars yet more unique; have fun with it and see what makes it sound intimidating yet capable of sorrow. No distinguishable race or ethnicity.

Voice Lines/Quotes:

[Serious, chilling] "Killing is a dead man's game."

[Sullen, admiting"...no. I do not hate him for hating me. How could I? He's every right to. I hate him for… other reasons."

[Uncertain, dreary] "I don't think he has my face, or my skin, for I've lost it all too long ago. Sure, we were once one in the same, but I know not who or what I once was. I don't think I ever will."

[Stern, convinced] "The nature of humanity knows only of killing or being killed. Murder comes with being what we once were, and it stains us evermore."

[Serious, emotionless]"I appreciate your empathy, but you waste yourself by caring for what I am. What I've done. We can all do it, lest we pretend to be better than what comes naturally."

[Unphased, certain] "People like me are the result of people like you."

[Accepting, sincere] "The fact that you offer me hope which I can actually feel is too intrusive to what has boiled to the surface. Perhaps I should try to dignify that notion."

Events and History

History and background details

Cain Husher was 13 when he first found the mask that changed him forever. Before that downward spiral, he was a devoted Christian and a generally good youth who had a quality group of friends, parents who loved him despite a divorce, and a dog whom he loved dearly. One fateful day before Halloween, Cain and two of his friends stumbled upon the mask seemingly by accident, stuck to the bottom of a waist high river in the woods behind their homes. Cain managed to snag it and took it home to clean it, and thinking it was cool, being a fan of serial killer movies such as Friday the 13th, he decided to dress up as Jason Voorhees, donning the oddly similar yet unique mask.

That was his best Halloween ever! Such a big haul of candy and an avalanche of compliments regarding his custom made costume, with old clothes that were made to make him look like a real slasher. A real one, with only a plastic knife to carry around.

He soon found it tantalizing to wear it whenever he could manage, and while he initially set reasonable limits for doing so, he eventually couldn't stop himself from wearing it at school or out in public. When people told him to take it off, he'd respond with either refusal or violent outbursts, both of which quickly turned people against him and made him out to be a creep with serious problems. Those closest to him would console him, but they only seemed to get through to him when he wasn't wearing the mask. Even then, he couldn't help himself much, as though irrationality was taking over. When things became too unbearable for everyone around him, he ran away from home, never to return.

Cain found solace in isolation, wandering through woods at night without fear, thinking he was the true danger to anything or anyone he happened upon. His intrusive thoughts and actions were akin to a smoker's cigarette, and every time he gave into something that no one would reasonably undertake otherwise, the addiction became a whole new personality. Primal thoughts became violent outbursts, his conscience melted like a candle, becoming a puddle of wax, and before long, he took the life of his first victim.

The downward spiral sent Cain in a deep hole that quickly filled with cement, hardening as his intrusive thoughts became that of a whole new person, if he could still be considered one. The id took over (thanks Freud), and when the bodies piled up, and news spread fear into those who lived anywhere near his crime scenes, everyone quickly told scary stories of the elusive Phantom Killer of Massachusetts. Three years went by, and when police finally caught up to him, Cain was shot down after claiming one detective and injuring several officers, seemingly putting his reign of terror to an end.

That was, until after the adoption of an orphaned infant emerged, whose appearance was a bigger mystery than that of Cain's widely spread out crime scenes. When he was taken in by a loving family, who had adopted a couple other young girls years prior due to the parent's inability to have children of their own, the mask soon resurfaced in their home. The youngest girl, a true supernatural enthusiast, egged him on until one day, after months of studying patterns and collecting evidence of the haunting, he came back to the physical world. More powerful than ever before, Cain murdered the family before lastly confronting Owen, and burned the house down with him inside.

Not too much time passed, yet victims were many, before Primus and Gunnar came to confront and collect both Cain and Owen. After a grueling confrontation and an impasse was reached, the four of them left this universe in search of the one who started it all, never to return. That world narrowly avoided its complete destruction by the hands of Cain, and thus, when he was taken out of the picture, The Ragnarok Effect was avoided, albeit with more lives lost than any of them, eventually Cain included, cared to admit.
