The Dufflepuds are tiny creatures with only one foot.  Initially they are invisible, thanks to Coriakin's spell.  They abduct Lucy and Elizabeth so they can recite the spell that will make them visible again.  When they cannot be seen, they stand on each other's shoulders to appear taller and hype up their appearances so people will fear them.  However, once they can be seen, they are actually very timid and easily frightened creatures who don't scare anyone.
