Lum Blood-Eye grew up in Crun Granosh, an Orc stronghold on the Skyrim-Hammerfell border. His peers bullied him for his albinism. As such, he spent a lot of time with his grandmother (Morga), the tribe's wise-woman. Though magic is considered feminine in Orcish culture, Lum took to it eagerly.

When Lum came of age, he attempted to usurp his father - as is Orc custom. Having spent his years doing nothing but studying magic, he had grown into a pathetic physical specimen. He lost, was cast out, and enrolled in the College of Winterhold.

There, he became prone to long hours of study in the Midden. On multiple occasions, he fell asleep in its depths. Upon waking, he would rush upstairs only to find that nobody particularly cared about his absence. He isolated himself further, eventually making the Midden his home where he set out to build a 'New Orsinium'. Of course, nobody noticed.
