Curse of the Dead Gods: Codex
David John-Bores for Caradog McCallister
McCallister is a British explorer from the end of the 19th century. He arrived in the Chatac civilization to catalogue relics for academic study. He is cursed by Xbeltz'aloc into a circle of death and reincarnation.
His journal entries are a mix of determination, despair, and realization. He recounts the enemies he will face in his many trials in the temples. Becoming more powerful, while also lamenting the price he must pay.
I pictured him as a gruff but knowledgeable kind of man. A warrior scholar. Like a British Saxton Hale, or Indiana Jones but much greedier.
There are a few Mesoamerican names he will speak. I have put the most accurate pronunciations I could find, but if you know of how else they could be pronounced, go for it.

To think I set out upon this expedition to catalogue artifacts and decipher ancient glyphs of the Chatac Civilization.
Should it take me a thousand lifetimes and a thousand violent deaths, I will escape you, Xbeltz'aloc. May curses rain upon all these Gods of Pain and Wonder.
Death's Champion wears a familiar smile, one that echoes now my own, a mixture of determination and despair.
