Narrators Needed for Children's Show on Radio Fairfax
deadtom for Narrator
The objective is not to sound like you are reading; you're supposed to be retelling a story. I expect you to edit your work.
Of what use was it to be loved and lose one's beauty and become Real if it all ended like this? And a tear, a real tear, trickled down his little shabby velvet nose and fell to the ground.
And then a strange thing happened. For where the tear had fallen a flower grew out of the ground, a mysterious flower, not at all like any that grew in the garden. It had slender green leaves the colour of emeralds, and in the centre of the leaves a blossom like a golden cup. It was so beautiful that the little Rabbit forgot to cry, and just lay there watching it. And presently the blossom opened, and out of it there stepped a fairy.
She was quite the loveliest fairy in the whole world. Her dress was of pearl and dew-drops, and there were flowers round her neck and in her hair, and her face was like the most perfect flower of all. And she came close to the little Rabbit and gathered him up in her arms and kissed him on his velveteen nose that was all damp from crying.
"Little Rabbit," she said, "don't you know who I am?
"The Rabbit looked up at her, and it seemed to him that he had seen her face before, but he couldn't think where.
"I am the nursery magic Fairy," she said. "I take care of all the playthings that the children have loved. When they are old and worn out and the children don't need them any more, then I come and take them away with me and turn them into Real."
"Wasn't I Real before?" asked the little Rabbit.
"You were Real to the Boy," the Fairy said, "because he loved you. Now you shall be Real to every one."
***If you want my feedback, tell me so in the comments. ***
Thank you for the opportunity, any feedback would be appreciated. Have a wonderful day.
This was a lovely reading. Your voice suits the story very well. The only thing I might suggest is to give longer pauses between phrases. It felt a little rushed, especially being a children's bedtime story... just slow, gentle and fluid speaking for a sleepy child to follow but be calmed by at the same time... Though I think generating some brief silences with your audio software between phrases might even help with that. Sorry Crystal, I'm not trying to do your job for you, I was merely honored that deadtom took the time to listen to and comment on my audition and felt it right to do the same. :)
Thank you for the feedback Julia. In hindsight I think part of me thought that it would be best to shorten the pauses since its an audition. Will defiantly keep that in mind for future readings.
A more than fair assumption. It was still an excellent read, in my opinion. Well done, and best of luck! :)
So.... Antonia, do you want to help out w/casting ? (Fingers crossed.)
Excellent !! The first statement could have used a little more expressiveness like the rest of your read. I guess you got to get in a groove, lol. Pauses would have helped. I agree w/tonijulia. There was a pop after the word 'before', but that could have been caused by CCC's compression - I am not listening to it a fourth time to find out, lol. Anyway, we would be happy to have you, but I am afraid we cannot afford you :(.
Thank you. I do believe there might have been a slight mix up in terms of the bid proposal. I am still relatively new to CCC, When I submitted my audition the bid was already set to $120, so I thought that was what you were offering in terms of compensation. Normally my flat rate is $30 dollars, but I am willing to work with whatever is within your budget. And thank you again for the feedback.
On the show, we all volunteer our voices. However, you will win the $5 I am offering for auditions. That prolly sounds like a pittance, but unfortunately, we receive no outside funding.
That's fine. I'd love to help out.
We would appreciate any assistance you are able to provide. Whenever you are ready to start, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and we will set about finding a fitting story for you.
