A former Marine Admiral, Kuzan's ideas changed because he was against Akainu's idealism of 'absolute justice.' Kuzan isn't afraid to speak what's on his mind and tries to sort his issues through diplomacy rather than violence. However, his Ice Ice devil fruit allows him to turn anything around him into ice; so if violence is an option, he becomes a force to be reckoned with.
