Zatch Bell is a shonen manga series written by Makoto Raiku. The story follows Takamine Kiyomaru, a middle school student, and a little demon boy named Zatch (Gash in the Japanese version). One hundred of these demons, called mamodo, are sent to Earth every 1000 years to battle: the winner becomes the next mamodo king. Each mamodo has a human partner and a spellbook. Spells can only be used by their partner holding the book, and if their book is damaged (burned) those mamodo are sent back the their world and lose the tournament to become king. This series has an anime adaptation (150 episodes) but it only covers up to about half of the manga content (~300 weekly chapters) before changing drastically. It is regrettable that most people haven't actually read the manga or even watched the anime as this is a really nice story with a lot of great characters. For this reason, I wanted to do a manga dub to help spread Zatch Bell to more people and try and revive interest in it!
This project would be a long-term one with a rather large cast. For this reason, auditions will most likely be on a rolling basis as we reach later parts of the story when more characters will be needed.
Rules
-Have a decent mic. It doesn't have to be professional studio quality or anything but if it sounds like you're talking into a tin can or from under a waterfall it would really detract from your audition.
-Be prepared to commit. As I mentioned this is a long-term project. Some roles will be short-term but some of the roles will last until the end of the series. I'll try my best to give an estimate of how long each role is but it's hard to remember all 300+ chapters and every character who shows up.
-I will probably be lenient with deadlines since I understand things can get hectic but if you're cast for something and consistently miss deadlines without dropping a message to me first, I will have to reconsider your role in the project.
-It would be preferable if you at least know something about Zatch Bell. I'm not going to quiz you or anything but knowing more about it might help you get into the role/project!
-Don't worry about trying to emulate the voices from the anime (original or dub)! Feel free to try any voice that you think works with the character & their personality.
-Double casting is allowed so feel free to audition for as many characters as you want! You might not get cast for something you auditioned for but if I think that you would be a good fit for another character, I may ask you to help out with that instead.
-If you want feedback on your audition let me know and I'll try to do my best to help you out! If you want to reaudition after getting feedback that is also totally okay :)
-Preferable method of contact is Discord. If this is not possible for any reason, email can also be used. ([redacted])
-The current deadline is kind of just open since auditions will be rolling, but I plan to start getting serious about this (sending out scripts, etc) towards the end of the year (Mid-December or early January)

Current roles shown cover the first 3 or 4 chapters only! But two of them (Zatch and Kiyo) are main roles. Meaning a lot of lines throughout the whole story! So if you audition for these roles be prepared to commit!!

One time role.
You bastard!! What are you doing?! Was that some kind of code?
Hey cops! I know you're aiming at us! Just try and shoot us!! If you do, my partner is gonna kill all the hostages!
Range of voices to do miscellaneous crowd comments, generally Kiyo's classmates. Try to do each line with a different kind of voice. Will cast multiple people for this role to have a variety of voices.
[grateful] Yes, it's this child! He's so courageous!
[annoyed] Go home if you don't need to study...
[curious] Takamine! Weren't you scared? The robbers had guns and everything!
Supporting character. Kiyo's friend from school. One of the only people who has cared about him since before the start of the series. Sometimes comic relief, may need to do yelling/screaming lines. Very exagerrated at times but also sincere and kind.
[sincerely] But when you taught me math...You taught me so well that even an idiot like me understood...You're really a genius, Kiyo!
[Sadly/encouraging] It's been so long since you came to school. Stay until the end!
[scolding/screaming] You should run away too!
Rude old man who lusts for money and power and uses his mamodo to achieve these goals. Sees mamodos as tools and monsters. Minor role, only a few chapters. Should sound rough.
[condescending] I found him....Aren't you the same? [amused] You've been living a pretty good life huh?
[vengeful boasting] That was the beginning of my revenge! I sent my boss to the hospital! I robbed banks and stores...I did everything!
[amused] This kid is a tool to get my dreams! There's no use in giving a tool clothes, right?!
Main character. Middle school student. Genius. Was ostracized because of his intelligence which made him skip school and become a loner. His father sent Zatch to him to help him make friends again. Even though he seems cold and distant to everyone at first he opens up to them and is actually a caring heroic man, to the point of self-sacrifice sometimes. He is easily annoyed but has a big heart, always trying to save people. Should be able to cover a range of emotions.
[Yelling] Why do I have to be trained by a brat kid like you?!
[Annoyed] I don't care if he's doing this to return a favor. He's just doing this out of obligation. What does he know about me?
[Conflicted, upset at himself] Why are you beat up? Can't you shoot lightning out of your mouth? Why...?
Main character. Kiyomaro's mamodo (demon) partner and best friend. He was found in the forest by Kiyo's father and doesn't remember anything about his past. He's a gentle and kind kid. Energetic/cheerful and childhish voice. Excited easily but also very sensitive and emotional.
[defensive, angry] Kiyomaro hasn't changed! It's the way his friends see him that has changed!!
[Matter-of-factly] Lightning doesn't come out of people's mouths.
[Excitedly] You need to beat all the bullies and help those in need!!!
Generally a very gentle and loving mother. Can be tough on Kiyo especially at the beginning but genuintely cares for him and Zatch. Tries her best. Minor role but shows up throughout the story.
[Sadly, gently] I'm sorry Zatch...that's why he doesn't have any friends....
[angry] Don't you know it's rude to tell your mother to "Shut up"?!
[doubtful, calmly] Of course he can't do that. Isn't that right, Zatch?
Archaeology professor in London. Lives away from his family but cares for them a lot. Found Zatch and had him go to Kiyo to help him learn how to make friends. Somewhat minor role but pops up throughout the story.
This may seem sudden, but the child who gave you this letter is named Zatch Bell.
[lighthearted] I have a son named Kiyomaro, but recently he's been a bit of a loner. Can you help him out?
I've never seen the language before, and not even I, an archaeology professor, can decipher it. But I think you can.
Minor role. Begins as a bully and has a bad relationship with Kiyo but eventually has a change of heart and becomes part of his friend group. Should be able to sound both mean and silly (for later parts)
[mean, mocking] He can just disappear from this school and never come back! Because no one here even wants him around!!
[scared, defensive] I don't care if that guy's a genius! He blew up the roof the other day with a bomb!
Minor role. Like most of the characters from school, the teacher starts out having a rocky relationship with Kiyo, but as the story progresses they are on good terms. The teacher seems serious at first but he ends up being quite a silly character later.
[strict sounding, kind of annoyed] Takamine! Try to solve this equation!
[kindly] You did well...But for now, I'll have the nurse take care of him until after school!
Announcer for the bank robbery in Chapter 2. One time role.
We are at the scene of the robbery. It has been 40 minutes since the incident started and the robbers are very agitated. They are not listening to negotiations.
The culprits are using hostages as shields so snipers cannot act. One of the injured is being carried out now!
There are two assailants holding guns in the Kabutomushi Bank in Mochinoki City.
First mamodo that Zatch and Kiyo meet. Is partnered with a rude old man who treats him as a tool and uses his powers for personal gain. Minor role, only a few chapters. Should sound lifeless and cold.
[commanding but quiet] Louder...
[in pain] UUUGHHh
[amused] The more he uses me to do bad things...the more powerful I get. This is...really good for me.
Bratty neighborhood kid, often bullies Zatch at the park. Obnoxious personality and voice. Minor role.
Liar, Liar!!!

Has a threatening sounding (maybe slightly raspy) voice. Prefereably a low. Brago is a hardcore mamodo who aims to be king. He is powerful and ambitious, and although he can be tough, especially on Sherry, he is not sadistic or evil.Sporadic appearance but somehwat major role as Zatch and Kiyo's biggest rival in the battle to be king.
[threateningly] We're coming in. You don't mind do you?
[malicious] Even if we let you go, others will come, one after another. That's right...The battle has already started!
May self-cast. Should sound confident, sophistocated and powerful. Sherry comes from a rich family and has a bad past with her family and with mamodos. She is partners with Brago and intends to help him become king in exchange for saving her friend Koko. Sporadic appearance but somehwat major role as Zatch and Kiyo's biggest rival in the battle to be king.
[demanding] I think you'll know our business if I show you this book...But don't worry. We're here to talk.
[matter-of-factly] These books use a human's heart as an energy source and develop their abilities basically, it's a user's manual.
[angry, forceful] Just give us the book! We'll use the same attacks until you do! If you stay with him you'll lose your normal life!! You'll only be showered in misfortune if you stay with him!
