Your Local Mad Scientist - Storyboard Project
Project Overview
"Your Local Mad Scientist" is a storyboard I'm producing for my school's independent study class. It's about a scientist in hiding, Dr. Ivor, who finds a way to bring his inventions back to the public through an optimistic boy, Mack, who wants to help make the world a better place. This story in particular follows the ramifications after Dr. Ivor and Mack create a robot friend who starts to attend Mack's school.
A script will be provided. If you want to get a better idea of the story or a particular character, I suggest you go there. It can help you better understand the context of a scene for demo line deliveries. A young boy with a passion to make the world a better place. He's an optimist and is often seen with a smile on his face! He's a jolly fellow. It takes a lot to knock the happy energy from the kid, but when push comes to shove, he can get pretty serious.

(Joyfully Explaining) This one's from Dwayne Smith, he runs his own business selling fishing products near my house. He would like a faster boat to catch fish more efficiently.
(Explaining) Oh, no… My dad doesn't really have time to teach me anything. So It's all me!
(Panicked/Reassuring) That’s not true, Todd! Don’t say that about yourself!
Your Local Mad Scientist. He thinks of himself as more important than others and doesn't really care how his actions affect others. He's doesn't often show emotion unless his pride is on the line.

(Matter of Fact in Interview) I don't really see the problem here. This is a massive feat in science. It should be commended, not slandered.
(Explaining himself, matter of fact) I'm not festering. I'm more than content with being right here. No expectations, no restrictions... I'm free to create to my hearts content down here without any disturbances.
(Cold and Distant) This has been a fascinating social experiment. I’ve derived a lot from my observations.
Child with not a lot of friends and a social outcast. He's an impulsive kid and talks a lot. His constant yapping causes people to not want to be around him, though he still has confidence. He is a very determined kid. He's a lot more insightful than meets the eye and can get very serious when the situation calls for it.

(Yapping) Mhm. A lot of people say I’m annoying and don’t know how to shut my mouth. I constantly go on and on and on and on and on about my life and my interests and it gets on a lot of people’s nerves a lot of the time…
(Angry) You so are! Everyone cheers your name when you enter a room, everyone wants your attention and treats you with, at the very least, the tiniest ounce of respect. But me!? Nobody cares about me! They hate me!
(Confrontational) Cliff. I can’t force you to be my friend, so I won’t even try. Originally, I was going to tell you that I was sorry for everything. For being so talkative, for being so annoying, for holding you back… But after seeing the type of person you became while with those popular kids, I realized something. I’m not the one holding you back from your potential… It’s them.
A friendly bot who likes making new friends. He's charming, filled with energy, and incredibly skilled. He was made specifically for Todd as a request to Mack. He ends up joining the more popular kids at school, where he becomes a little less comfortable in fully expressing himself.

(Friendly Greeting) Hello, Hello, Hello! The name's Cliff, it's a pleasure to meet you!
(Unsure) I think it may be best to not leave any traces that anyone was here. We also probably shouldn’t tamper with other people’s property.
(Angry Rant) It’s not my fault that nobody ever wants to be around you, it’s not my fault that you can’t stop yapping your mouth off, it’s not my fault that these other kids would rather spend time with me than you. Being with you is suffocating! I want to be more than a friend of a loser, I want… I want…
Jason is the typical "cool, popular kid". He knows about the social hierarchy within his school and he knows he's on top. He's confident, he knows he's cool, and most of all... He's one massive bully.

(Suspicious) I gotta say… It’s a little weird that your inventions magically started working one day. I'm used to your stuff being total duds.
(Uplifting) You got nothing to prove to us. We’re just a bunch of boys being boys. Let loose! Live a little!
(Annoyed) Great… It’s blabbermouth…
Dr. Ivor's personal assistant robot. He serves as the voice of reason and is incredibly fond of Mack.

(Worried) It can't be healthy. That was nearly a decade from now. It is not ideal to fester on such emotions for such a lengthy period.
(Anxious Worry) Dr. Ivor! You continue to do this with every bot you create! And 99% of the time, they cause more trouble than good!
(Warm Greeting) Oh, Young Mack! It is great to see you again.
