Writers and Voices Needed for Azumanga Daioh Fanmade Projects (Wave 1)

Project Overview

Hey guys! James Dahlbender here, and I'm looking for writers for any of my Azumanga Daioh Fanmade content. This includes animations, comics, audio plays, commercials, games, apps, etc.

FAQ

#1. What is Azumanga Daioh?

Azumanga Daioh focuses on the daily life of a unique group of high schoolers in Tokyo, Japan. Chiyo Mihama is a 10 year old prodigy who skipped a few grades due to her high IQ, Ayumu Kasuga (better known as Osaka”), is a slow, spacy autistic transfer student from Osaka, who comes up with some interesting thoughts, and sometimes gets stuck in Osaka-land. (A nod of la la land), Tomo Takino is an energetic, yet obnoxious girl who likes to pick on her friends, challenge others, cause commotions, and does stupid antics that could endanger her peers and herself (a la Peter Griffin from Family Guy), Sakaki is a tall, athletic, quiet girl who, despise her intimidating appearance, she loves to draw, loves cute stuff, and loves cats, but the cats don't love her back, Koyomi Mizuhara (better known as Yomi), is usually the most grown up of the girls. She's pretty smart, serious, and can get ill-tempered (Don't mess with, Yomi! Just don't), and Kagura is a strong, muscular, sometimes tan, athletic girl who's really got at any sport. She's very competitive, especially with Sakaki. Of course, we also have the everyday life of a couple teachers. Yukari-sensei is an English teacher, notorious for being irresponsible, childish, and rambunctious. She shouldn't be allowed to drive at all, and Nyamo Kurosawa is a PE Teacher who's more responsible, and knows how to set Yukari-sensei straight.

#2. What genre is it?

It's a slice of life comedy. We're aiming for something like a primetime show on FOX while being faithful to the original.

#3. Is it safe for kids to watch?

It's more for a mature audience (specifically a TV-14 rating), so I wouldn't recommend it for people under 16 years old. Though high schoolers can still relate to it.

#4. Where can I contact me?

I'm on Discord.

    Hello, everynyan!

It's James, and I've recently opened a couple new roles, and it's for Miruchi and Yuka. I put them into just one role because I'm preferably looking for pre-pubescent voices for them. If you have younger sisters, young nieces, young daughters, young students, young cousins, younger friends, and so on, please let them know if they're interested because remember, the key to a good work environment is consent. We don't wanna start a Ryan's World-esque controversy.

Here's where you audition to be a writer. A writer is the person who writes the scripts for the projects. To audition, please write a script following the guidelines I made here. https://docs.google.com/document/d/15ugiXDCoTjTeg2BLvviGCHM1X0XiokeA_vF7G4laNy4/edit?usp=drivesdk

Also, I recommend doing some research regarding the format of the script. Here's some good ones. https://www.scriptslug.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2uZ7IabVOM

Another thing, it would be useful to come up with a vanity card. A vanity card is a production plate founded by a specific person (usually an executive producer or creator of the show/movie, but it may also be a certain cast member, writer, etc.). For example, mine is Tribatonga Productions.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Ayumu Kasuga (Japanese:春日歩 Kasuga Ayumu), better known as Osaka (大阪), is a transfer student from the city of Osaka. Tomo Takino expects her to act like the stereotypical Osakan — loud, like a hillbilly, chose for her the nickname "Osaka", although her behavior could not be more different. She reminisces how people in Osaka consider her "slow" and "spacey", at least compared to the average Osakan, but she lacks the energy or motivation to change. Ayumu was the first to ever lose a race against Chiyo Mihama. The nickname sticks so well she is called 'Osaka' by teachers and even in the class roster, to the point that no one even remembers her real name (Yomi has a similar problem). In the manga, Osaka mentions that she lived in Kobe when she was in elementary school and was born in Wakayama. Despite her tendency to nod off during lectures, which upsets Yukari, she remains in Yukari's homeroom class throughout High School. Because of her poor performance on exams, she is a member of the "Knuckleheads" ("Bonklers" in Japanese, "Numbnuts" in the English manga and "Boneheads" in the Yen Press translation), together with Tomo and Kagura. Her intention, at Chiyo's advice, to seek a teaching career after graduation is viewed by Yukari as a deep personal insult, believing that Chiyo-chan thinks teachers are lazy and laid-back.

Osaka often acts stuck in her own world. Although she seems slow and easily distracted, she merely has a mind that works quite differently from that of most people. Though she is often prone to daydreaming, absentmindedness and non-sequiturs, it also makes her unusually good at answering certain types of riddles. While some people assume that she lacks focus, the truth is that in quite a few cases, Osaka is really a little too focused.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Sakaki (榊 Sakaki), full name unknown, is tall, soft-spoken, and uncomfortable with her height and her busty physique. Because she is shy, she seldom speaks, and this reticence is misinterpreted and admired as "tough", "mysterious", and "cool" — a reputation compounded by her natural athletic ability. However, her true personality is quite the opposite — while mistaken for being aloof and surly, she's actually very kind, polite, compassionate and gentle, cares a lot for her friends, and while athletically gifted, she's more the type fond of cute and girly stuff. She is the subject of Kaorin's (largely unspoken) infatuation. In contrast to what other students think of her, Sakaki has no interest in sports and has a secret passion for all things cute (which she eventually admits to Chiyo). Despite her shy, reserved nature, she has a very strong desire for friendship, leading her to attach herself to the group. If she is aware of Kaorin's infatuation, she shows no sign of it. She is also very intelligent and academically gifted, being third in her class. Not infrequently, however, she's shown to be quite the airhead; next to Osaka, she's the character who has her head in the clouds the most, daydreaming about the cute things she's quite obsessed with. Sakaki's passion for cute things encompasses animals both real and stuffed (she gives her own stuffed animals names, like a small child). Once, having heard that Sakaki liked bears, Yomi buys Sakaki a can of bear stew, to her horror. Sakaki is particularly taken with cats, but cannot have one at home because her mother is allergic. Unfortunately, cats hate Sakaki for unknown reasons — one in particular, a gray cat known as Kamineko, delights in luring her close so he can bite her. Kagura theorizes cats think her hand smells like fish. One subtitle in the manga explains that the street cats suspect that Sakaki approaches them with murderous intent, likely due to her size and stone-faced expression.[citation needed] During the class trip to Okinawa, Sakaki bonds with an Iriomote cat, the first cat who ever let her pet it. Later, after the cat's mother is run over by a car and killed, he follows Sakaki to Tokyo, who adopts him and names him Maya. At his arrival, Maya suddenly appears and chases off a malicious horde of the cats led by Kamineko who were threatening Sakaki and Chiyo. Confronted by Maya's wildcat "battle aura", the cats wilt and scatter. Because of Sakaki's mother's allergy, Maya is taken in temporarily by Chiyo.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

While she makes appearances earlier on as one of Minamo Kurosawa's students, Kagura does not become a true acquaintance of the group until sometime later, joining Yukari's class in the 2nd year (Yukari selects her as a ringer to win the school athletic competitions). She devotes most of her time to the swim team but is an all-around good athlete. Thanks to her dedication to swimming Kagura receives some rather pronounced tan lines during the summer months, which friends like Osaka waste no time in pointing out – her exact words being: "You know, with that you could go to the pool wearing nothing and no one would even notice that something was missing".She also has a one-sided rivalry with Sakaki and attempts to outdo her in all activities, whether it is playing softball, sprinting, or even eating lunch. This is how her character was introduced to the rest of the cast, when during 1st year's field day, she was defeated by Sakaki in a running event. The next time the two meet, Kagura has decided to make Sakaki her rival, yet she also makes continuous attempts to be a good friend to Sakaki. Sakaki is a natural athlete (and doesn't remember a thing about running against Kagura during the first Athletics Fest, which stuns Kagura) and defeats her in almost everything except stamina events. Like her would-be rival, Kagura is embarrassed when Tomo Takino calls attention to the size of her breasts. Kagura is similar to Tomo in sheer energy and her lack of interest in studying, but is not prone to Tomo's impulsive outbursts and irritating behavior. Her low test scores and apathy for schoolwork have earned her a place in the "Bonkuras" (translated as "Knuckleheads" in the anime and "Numbnuts" in the original manga translation) alongside Tomo and Ayumu. Kagura's grades were actually slightly worse than Tomo's and Osaka's which led to her becoming the leader of the Bonkurazu by default. But because that leader title basically showcased how bad her grades were, it was something with which Kagura was anything but happy about. Tomo also points out that despite their scores and attitude toward schoolwork, they both ended up in the prestigious high-school anyway. However, in the manga, Kagura has been seen doing very well in health, getting a 91 on a test, to which Tomo remarks the reason for doing so well was her large breasts, to which she rebutes.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Yukari Tanizaki (Japanese: 谷崎 ゆかり Tanizaki Yukari), also known as "Miss Yukari" (ゆかり先生 Yukari-sensei) by her students, is the homeroom teacher of Koyomi, Tomo, Chiyo, Sakaki, Ayumu, and Kagura, the six main protagonists of the anime. She is not only the girls' English and homeroom teacher (class 3), but a teacher with very unconventional methods and a rather close relationship with the class. Her students are casual enough to call her by her given name (Yukari-sensei in lieu of Tanizaki-sensei, with a few, mostly Tomo, addressing her as the extremely informal Yukari-chan (Japanese); just Yukari in English). Depending on the day, time, and her mood, she can be either a horrible tyrant or one of the sweetest, most touching teachers ever. Her behavior ranges from mercilessly teasing Chiyo and hitting students with blunt objects to kind and gentle words and simple, encouraging notes on tests telling students she believes in them.[citation needed] She is often selfish, irresponsible, miserly, generally dysfunctional, and also easily angered, and shamelessly expects her friend and fellow teacher, Minamo Kurosawa ("Nyamo"), to not only tolerate all of this, but to enable it. She becomes jealous when Nyamo receives nicer birthday presents from her students, and will even give her students study hall so that she can ditch them and go swimming at the school pool. In one episode, when Yukari is in a terrible mood about the lack of birthday presents, Tomo complains it's simply because Yukari's birthday is during Summer Break.Off the job, she frequently drags Nyamo out on expensive drinking parties, which Nyamo usually has to pay for. Yukari is very fond of Korean barbecue, which becomes the object of many of her extravagant wagers involving the class. She even becomes incredibly jealous whenever anyone has eaten expensive food, such as snow crab or Matsusaka beef. She is also a huge fan of video games, and becomes angry when the store runs out of the newest game.Yukari's driving skills are infamous, showing no concern for the rules of the road, people, other cars, signs, or the speed limit, and the many dents on her parents' car (dubbed the "Yukarimobile" by Yomi and the others) is evidence to that. Her insane driving has impacted Chiyo and Kaorin's psyches rather profoundly (causing severe mental scarring to Chiyo in the process), and has even caused Sakaki and Osaka to briefly lose their composures. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, Yukari loves to drive. The only one who can tolerate Yukari's driving is Tomo, who shares Yukari's love of destruction and mayhem.Yukari and Nyamo are alumnae of the school the girls attend, and she even appeared at a Sports Festival in her old uniform (which led to a prostitution joke from Tomo Takino in the manga).Yukari and Tomo have similar obnoxious personalities: they are both boastful, jealous, delusional, lazy, and selfish. Rather than being hateful, though, they are amusing and likeable – one can see why their friends like them, even as they are annoyed by them. The balance between the dual natures of Yukari and Tomo's characters is a unique achievement of the author, and one of the peculiar charms of Azumanga Daioh.Yukari can speak English fluently, and uses this ability to claim intellectual superiority over Nyamo. (Though the anime treats her speech as fluent, she has a very strong accent.) At one point in the manga, however, she tells her class that the only true purpose for studying English is to pass tests but gets angry when Tomo uses this statement against her.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Chihiro (千尋) is a classmate and best friend of Kaorin. Little is known except her name. When she appears, she is usually keeping Kaorin company, and she collaborates with her on some projects. Once, when Chiyo-chan tutored her, Yukari assumed it was the reverse. Occasionally Chihiro bears the brunt of Kaorin's temper, without knowing why; it is unclear how aware she is of Kaorin's crush on Sakaki. Chihiro was also one of the students most disgusted by the cockroach that appeared in class in Episode 2. In the manga, during the senior year sports festival Chihiro dressed up as Chihiro from Spirited Away, partnered with another student (possibly Kaorin) dressed as Kaonashi from the same film. Initially in the manga, Chihiro is often seen together with Yomi. It can be assumed that this was before Chihiro became best friends with Kaorin, and the two of them might have bonded over "discussing the boys they hate" together with Yukari. Though Yomi still appears to maintain a friendly relationship with Kaorin and, presumably, Chihiro, later on in the series. Chihiro appears to be a fairly easy-going person, but slightly sarcastic and not without an edge. Like her friend, she is rather quiet, and not prone to drawing attention to herself. She does not seem to think much of Tomo, since she said to Kaorin that electing Tomo for class president would lead to unmitigated disaster,[2] and was skeptical when Tomo said the reason she was loud was that "it [was] always noisy where three women gather." Chihiro and Yomi did not think they contributed much to how noisy the group was. While Kaorin transferred to Kimura's class in her third year, much to her annoyance, Chihiro's fate is not known. But since Kaorin above all was Kimura's favourite, it is possible that only she left Class 3 and Chihiro remained, and Kaorin was also the only one whom the girls noticed was missing from the original class setup when their third year began. Should that be the case, it is unknown who Chihiro spends time with when she's not with Kaorin.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Masaaki Ohyama (大山 将明 Ōyama Masaaki) is the girls' bespectacled male classmate in 10th grade. In the original manga, his performance in the exam is very good and he appears to be one of the brightest students of Class 3 besides Chiyo Mihama. His English language writing skill surpasses even that of his teacher at the time when he first enters high school. Yukari nominates him as a class representative, judging by the fact that he wears glasses (a meganekko or megane for the male version often appears in such a role in many manga and anime). This job continues until he resigns in September and yields the post to Mihama. He also serves as the graduate representative in the very end. His character seldom appears in the anime. He admires Kimura, like most of the male students. He is also left-handed, as seen once when he is writing in the manga.

ABOUT THE CHARACTERS

Miruchi Kurosawa-Yamamoto and Yuka Tanazaki-Farley are Chiyo's friends from grade school. Despite having skipped ahead into high school, Chiyo still treats them as peers. In both appearance and name, they appear to resemble the girls' teachers, Minamo (Nyamo) and Yukari. They're also the nieces of Nyamo and Yukari.
