John is a complicated teen with multiple facets to his personality; to Seraphina, he is very lighthearted and joking; to those who know about his ability, he is very threatening and intimidating; and to most everyone else, he is just "the school cripple."
First appearance in the Prologue.
(matter-of-factly, becoming determined) “The school’s famous Triple Chocolate Cake is only served once a month… And because this is such a rare event, everyone rushes to the cafe first thing during lunch time. I always get there late because I’m not as fast as everyone else. But TODAY, I have a good feeling!”
(disparaged, upset) “WHAT? I MISSED IT AGAIN?!”
Playful, obsessive, and at times stubborn, Remi stands out from her peers in that she doesn’t bully others for her own amusement, even John, and is aware that she is only Queen because her predecessor did not want the position. However, when Remi becomes passionate about something, she is willing to take on those stronger than her, though the vast majority of her obsessions last a few days. At times, Remi can also let loose around her friends, like when she started a volleyball fight with Blyke. Unlike most High-tiers in her school, Remi appears to be much more altruistic, befriending those weaker than her (such as Blyke and Isen) and even assisting "cripples"; these beliefs seem to have stemmed from her brother Rei.
First appearance in the Prologue.
(threatening, selfish) “Step away from that last slice! I call dibs!”
(slowly becoming more upset as the line goes on, powerful) “...no way… I’ve waited an entire month for that cake. I won’t back down! Hand it over, jerk!”
Arrogant, patient, and cunning, Arlo is fully aware of the benefits of his position and uses them to manipulate others to his own favor; he has even gotten away with treating the more powerful Seraphina with a degree of disrespect. His early appearances and flashbacks seem to paint him as a jock-like individual. He likes winning, but not as much as he likes to draw out the agony of defeat for his opponents.
First appearance in the Prologue.
(disdainful, condescending) “What? You “called it”? You should know how it works by now, Remi. It’s first come first serve. If you want a piece, you gotta be faster than that! Better luck next time, shrimp!”
(getting ready to fight, amused) “Oh, so that’s how you want to play? Bring it on, little shrimp!”
As the head of security of Wellston, Keene's main concern is to keep the school and its students safe; he worries when there are potential dangers to the school. He is not above making bets with other staff members, however.
You will need to talk a LOT in the first episode. Please speak comprehensively and not slow.
First appearance in Episode 1.
(monotone, uninterested) “Triangles are a fundamental geometrical shape. Triangles appear within several disciplines, some of which are architecture, engineering, astronomy, and chemistry. This is why mathematicians have studied them and consequently have several relations to enumerate their sides and angles. Here is one such relation. (pause) As it will be thoroughly explained within the next section, these equations are useful for two cases: 1) when two sides and the angle between them are known within a triangle and 2) when all three sides of a triangle are known. If either case is known, then the law of cosines is helpful.”
(annoyed) “Mister Mardin. Perhaps you’d like to volunteer.”
Rouker is a student of Wellston and a member of Tanner's bully group. He has emerald hair with yellow eyes. When his ability is activated, his eyes will glow bright yellow.
First appearance in Episode 1.
(bullying) “HAH! Don’t die on your way there, Jonny Boy!”
Blyke is a normal teenager who, for the most part, minds his own business (unless provoked), but to his friends, he is loyal, protective, and even empathetic as shown when he expressed concern over Remi after her brother died. Like Remi, Blyke is never one to interfere with the business of lower tiers and has never attacked John until he slapped Remi. He can be quite temperamental, especially when he argues or fights with Isen. According to Seraphina, Blyke is also open and straight-forward, with no secrets to hide.
First appearance in Episode 1.
(just got attacked, angry) “Urgg… (long growl) Ouch! Damn you, Isen!”
(fiery rage) “Yeah… But but you didn’t have to hit me so hard! THAT FREAKIN’ HURT! (follow up with a loud yell as Blyke casts a large spell)
As a school journalist, once Isen is assigned an intriguing topic, he is dedicated to his research and aims to make his story the top story. During the interview with John, he was thought to be taking many notes; however, it was revealed to be a drawing of him standing over a squashed Blyke, and showing off his muscles for Remi, revealing he has a crush on her. He's pretty girl-crazy in general, seeking out (stalking) girls from other schools as well.
First appearance in Episode 1.
(angry) “You idiot… I lend you my pen for just one class period, and you go and break it!”
Gavin is a typical bully who bullies anyone weaker than him; he also holds a grudge against John for throwing him out of a window. In later chapters, Gavin is revealed to be among Wellston's strongest mid-tiers and has been known to boss around weaker students and force them to complete his assignments.
First appearance in Episode 2.
(manipulating) “Come on, do that thing again.”
(starting to get angry) “Look here. DO NOT. TALK BACK TO ME!”
(fake calm, manipulating) “Now… Do what I say. Or I’ll beat the crap out of you!”
From what little is known about him, Terrence is a very secretive individual and uses his ability to aid his journalism.
First appearance in Episode 2.
(weak, beaten down) “No… L-Leave me alone!”
Dr. Darren is a brash, abrasive person with a bit of a temper, especially towards the more troublemaking students. Because of this, Darren is considered to be terrifying to most students (including students stronger than him like Blyke and Isen) and always has a grumpy expression on his face. Furthermore, he appears to dislike his job and only applied simply because it was a seemingly stress-free position. Despite this, he does care for the well-being of his patients.
First appearance in Episode 4.
(rough but caring, almost like talking to an old friend) “So, John. Back again with the broken arm?”
(rough, getting mad) “How many times do I have to tell you to watch yourself? Do you really have to die before you understand?
(annoyed) “Here, drink this. Your arm will heal in three hours. (sigh) One day, I’m gonna lose my job because of you. Luckily, you only ran into Stone-boy today… If you’d pissed off any of the higher tier students… Then even I wouldn’t be able to do much to sav-”
Though the model student of Wellston Private High School and one of the few god-tiers, Seraphina's personality is not like that of her peers; she has a rather relaxed personality and doesn't really care for much; she often finds herself bored due to how good she is at everything. Due to her reputation as the "perfect student," Seraphina is often the center of attention in Wellston, but unlike most high-tiers, she does not care for her punctuality nor her reputation and has even gone as far as making friends with a supposed cripple. Though she rarely lets the opinions of others get under her skin, Seraphina is not above asserting her power with people who get into her business.
First appearance in Episode 4.
(give a small, concerned hum) Where are you? (giggle)
(harsh) “John. What’s this about? (snort) Lol. Sucks for you. Well, I gotta go back to class. But I’ll remember to not wait for you when school is over. Cya!”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime she shows up.
First appearance in Episode 6.
(news reporter) “--presence. EMBER has been leaving a trail of bodies. The most recent one being in Lovun. In an alley, near the intersection of Rokel and Acres Street. Investigators have identified the body as the well known vigilante “X-Static”.”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime she shows up.
First appearance in Episode 6.
(concerned) “Lovun? That’s the next town over! Could EMBER be heading there?”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime he shows up.
First appearance in Episode 6.
(dismissive) “Puh! X-Static… How useless!”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime she shows up.
First appearance in Episode 7.
(introducing) “Everyone, I know it’s a bit late in the year, but we have a new student joining us today! Please introduce yourself.”
Elaine seems to be one of the more friendly students at Wellston due to her outgoing and hospitable personality. However, like many students of Wellston, she's shown only enmity towards those with no abilities, and paid no attention to what lower tiers go through. She is also shown to be more easily startled than the other Royals. This is likely because her ability is not suited for combat, which is why she relies on more powerful students to protect her.
First appearance in Episode 7.
(friendly) “Hi, John! I’m Elaine. Welcome to Wellston! How’s your first day so far? (pause) Wonderful! So which school did you transfer from? (pause) Woah, really? We’ve never had one of those before…”
(malicious) “So, John. What kind of ability do you have? (pause) What did you just say? I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS! DON’T TOUCH ME! Gross. I can’t believe I just spent all that time talking to someone like you!”
Like his bullying partner Crail, Lin enjoys picking on those weaker than him (fairly uncommon as he is a low-tier). He does appear to be scared if anyone else tries to attack him.
First appearance in Episode 7.
(calm, quiet) “Don’t worry. Neither are we. We’re just here to educate you.”
(amused) “Yeah, otherwise we’ll beat your a-”
Crail is a typical bully and takes pleasure in beating up those weaker than himself. He also has no concern for his friends as shown when he was about to punch Lin. The only person Crail seems to care about is himself, his sole concern about his actions is how the consequences will affect him.
(explaining, arrogantly) “So in this school, there’s a hierarchy that everyone follows. And since you’re a cripple, you’re at the very bottom. You must do everything we say.”
(angry, yelling) “HEY NEW KID! PAY ATTENTION WHEN WE SPEAK TO YOU!”
The Ability Gauge Vendor came off as timid and afraid of Levani when she threatened to blow up his booth and was thankful of John and Seraphina's attempt to help him. He also appears to be a grateful person as he offered to gauge their power levels for free. However, this may have simply been a ploy to give Seraphina a tracking device disguised as a teddy bear, implying he is deceptive and a good actor.
First appearance in Episode 8.
(reasoning) “But M’am, you should be proud of this score. It proves you’re more talented than the average person!”
(complacent) “Ah, Miss. You see, using the standard gauging system, a 3 is average, and a 5 is considered “high-tier”. So you’re very strong. Even I myself will only score a 2.”
From what little is shown about Levani's personality, she is shown to be very proud of her abilities. She absolutely cannot stand having a "low" power level despite her power level being "above average."
First appearance in Episode 8.
(typical karen) “(growling) WHAT DO YOU MEAN I ONLY GOT A FOUR?! BULLSH*T! You only gave me a four and you’re telling me it’s good? YOU’RE A FRAUD! I WANT MY MONEY BACK NOW!”
(in his face, explosive) “Listen to me. If you don’t refund my money right now, I will blow your entire booth to bits! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?”
From what little is seen of Payton, he is a no-nonsense man who takes his job seriously.
First appearance is in Episode 9.
(stern) “What’s going on here?” “Calm down, miss. I’ll take it from here."
(angered) “So it’s you again? I’m getting sick of your bullsh*t! Return that money you took from this lady now!”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime he shows up.
First appearance in Episode 12.
(military-type) “Sir, Target 93 has been idle at coordinate -42, 77.2 for 6 hours, 49 minutes. Should I record the target’s location?”
At first glance, Claire appears to be kind and compassionate, especially to bully victims. Based on John's recollections of her, she is somewhat manipulative when it comes to achieving her ulterior motives. Adrion had overheard her confiding to New Bostin's Jack that she only helped John because she knew that by sticking close to him when he was nothing, she could reap great benefits when he became the King. She also claimed to see his downfall at the hands of the Jack and sought to make it come true.
First appearance in Episode 12.
(kind, helpful) “Let me help you…”
Broven is presumably not a patient person as the first thing he did when Arlo arrived was complaining about his late arrival. He also is shown to care for his teammates and was seen holding and shouting for Rein.
First appearance in Episode 14.
(impatiently) “Look who finally showed up. Wellston.”
(slightly angered) “Cut the crap, Arlo. You’re the one who challenged us…! At least have the decency to show up on time!"
No official description. A very angry boi, i suppose?
First appearance in Episode 14.
(calling out instructions) “Turf War between Wellston and Agwin will now begin. Jacks please take your positions! Whichever team knocks out the opponent’s lineup will be victorious!”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime he shows up.
First appearance in Episode 18.
(fed-up) “Frankly, I couldn’t care less about those lunatics! They’re a bunch of kids looking for trouble!”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime she shows up.
First appearance in Episode 18.
(scared) “U-um… W-well, I find it pretty terrifying, ...hearing about all these powerful people dying all the time…”
This is a non-named character. You’ll be present anytime she shows up.
First appearance in Episode 18.
(news reporter) “Excuse me, sir. What are your thoughts on the role that vigilantes have played recently?”
Like most of the other students in Wellston, he looks down on those weaker than himself, including John. However, Holden stands out from the rest of the crowd by being the only non-Royal be close to Arlo and is one of the few people who appears to legitimately respect the King, unlike most other students.
First appearance in Episode 18.
(angered) “WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!”
(continuing) “YOU JUST BUMPED INTO THE KING AND THAT’S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?”
