To Plan a Perfect Murder - Student Grad Film

To Plan a Perfect Murder - Student Grad Film

Project Overview

Hello! I'm an animation student currently in my final year of uni (RMIT), and am currently looking for voice actors and a composer for my graduate film!

To Plan A Perfect Murder is a 2D animated romantic comedy about a highschool girl who finds out her crush is planning a murder and gets roped into helping her with this plan. As it turns out though, the truth might be a lot less scarier than it appears.

Please keep in mind that this is a student film so my budget is unfortunately pretty limited. We will be contacting each other through discord or email!

Please do not apply with AI generated works for either position.

For VAs:

The film is about 5 mins long with dialogue from both characters as well as some voice foley (gasps, sighs, chuckles ect.)

Although I’ve mentioned characters having either a lower or higher voice, please still feel free to audition even if you feel like you don’t not fit into the criteria - I’d love to hear different readings of the characters!

I’d also like to ask that the audio recordings are clear of any pops, peaking or background noises.

For Composer:

Please ensure that your demo reels include examples relevant to what I’m looking for!

  • casting call delay

Hello all! Ever since the deadline of this casting call, there have been some pretty significant changes made to the script and animatic of this project. Now that they've been sorted out however, I'll be reaching out to the selected VAs and composer this Friday the 9th!

Thank you all for your patience!

  • Sorting through auditions!

Hello everyone!! Thank you so so much for the insane number of submissions (over 300+ is crazy!!!) I'm very surprised by how many auditions this has gotten, but also very, VERY, thankful so many people are interested in contributing their talent for this short film.

I'll be sorting through each and every audition over the next few days, thank you again for those who've submitted an audition! <3

energetic, high voice

Layla’s a very high energy teenage girl that's absolutely head over heels for Elaine. She easily gets flustered and is the type of person who often talks before thinking, so there are multiple instances of her saying things and then instantly panicking in her thoughts. Throughout the short film, she deals with conflicting emotions, stuck between wanting to spend time with Elaine but not wanting to help a murderer.

Language:

  • (flustered) Oh uhm sorry haha, I forgot what I was gonna say!

  • (shocked) Elaine wrote that!? She's going to kill someone?

  • Elaine…Please don’t do it!

androgynous, lower voice than Layla's

Elaine is the girl Layla has a crush on. She’s a sporty girl with an interest in reading and can be quite dense to Layla’s obvious feelings. She talks very casually and has a lot of friends due to her friendly demeanor.

It’s hard to imagine someone like her planning a murder, but Layla did find her “murder plan”. Despite initial panic at her plan being found, it quickly melted to excitement as Layla offered to help her better the plan. Throughout the film, Elaine maintains a relative positive attitude as she grows closer to Layla.

Language:
  • english
  • (panicked) Did you read this?

  • (cheerful) I'm really grateful you want to help me out, Layla!

  • (chuckling) Oh god, sorry for laughing, I just didn't expect that at all. I thought you knew!

I’m looking for a composer to score my final film! You’ll have to be comfortable scoring over a completed rough animatic. The short film will be approximately 5 minutes long.

In terms of what I’m looking for, the first part of the film should have a cheerful, soft sound that changes to something more upbeat and warm during a montage sequence. The second part of the film should have a tense/dramatic feel as a confrontation scene occurs, but the sound should fade to something softer and warmer (romantic?) towards the end of the film.

I’m mainly looking for a warm and cozy sound for the majority of my film, even during the tense moments, the music should still sound relatively warm. I have literally no knowledge of music stuff but I hope what I wrote made sense!
